It works if Mercedes understands your accent. It struggles with my strong Geordie and I have never yet been successful. But what3words should be on everyone’s phone. If you have an accident somewhere unfamiliar either in the car or out on foot, just open the app and your location is shown so you can ring the emergency services and they too are onboard with the app and can input your words to have your exact location. It saved a few lives already in the uk.
Exactly Elder1! I was gutted when I got round to editing I forgot to mention about the emergency services! But still it's an amazing idea, everyone should have it in my opinion!

I've had it on my letterhead for a while, but I didn't know you could navigate to it!
There is a Chrome / Firefox extension available - "Maps with what3words" - which allows you to enter the WhatThreeWords address into your search bar and it'll come up in Google Maps on the right hand side of your browser window if you aren't in the car.

Hi Nick. I know this video was posted 3 years ago but were you aware that the emergency services in the UK and many European countries use What3Words to reach their destinations which makes response times much quicker. It just requires people to know about it and have the app on their phone should they ever fine themselves in a situation that needs it.
Just thought it worth mentioning.
Also, the back story that lead to the creation is quite fascinating and well worth researching.

Try using your i phone to send the words to your sat nav. If you have Mercedes Me its quite a simple process.
I've never heard of it either. At the start of the video, I was thinking "eh, what's going on with Nick" as it wasn't immediately linked to mercedes but pleasantly Nick is has delivered another fantastic informative video. am in Brisbane, Australia. Just tried it and it is amazing. Much easier than using the onboard map. Put in Uluru and it would take me there...think the merc might struggle getting to the top though 😛
Very true, not even sure the G-Class would be able to climb that at an elevation of 863m!
Now I know why Mercedes is keen on this. As per Wikipedia: “In January 2018, Mercedes-Benz bought approximately ten per cent of the company and announced what3words support in future versions of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment and navigation system. The A-Class, launched in May 2018, became the first vehicle in the world with what3words on board.”
Hi Richard, yes you're absolutely right! I was one of the lucky ones to try it first back in 2018 and initially I didn't understand it but honestly even today I don't use it enough. But it is an amazing idea, have recommended it to loads of people!

Sadly no I wouldn’t know on that one, I know there are different languages and some have Hey Mercedes support but not sure on what languages are supported.

Not sure for countries outside of the UK, but I can't see why not. What3Words works all over the world, just not sure about the Mercedes-Benz integration bit. If you have MBUX Hey Mercedes, can't see why it wouldn't work!

You didn’t mention that from the W3W app, you can send a location to the Mercedes Me App, which then sends it direct to the car.
Though currently mine keeps coming up with W3W addresses in the USA when I do this 🤨

HELP Nick, we live in France now and having tried for the 1st time today to get navigated by my 'Hey Mercedes' to our address (in French of course) well, it did NOT work at all.. BUT MY QUESTION: does one have to say 'WHAT3WORDS' in English plus the needed what 3words in French?? So please instruct us on what to do/how to get this right? Many thanks -- we LUUUVE your videos! Really sorry I’ve not ever taken a Mercedes abroad (with the exception of having one in the states a couple of times)
So not sure what you’ve have to say. It guess it depends if What3Words is being used in other countries. I know that What3Words have mapped out the entire world but not sure if there’s a direct translation.
I’m guessing that if the car’s system is set to English then it would work fine but sorry I wouldn’t know what to say if it was set to French for example.
If you live over there now, just pop into your local Mercedes, I’m sure they’ll be able to help and explain if it works there 👍🏼
Hi Nick, tried W3W & it's brilliant & intend to use it on an upcoming trip which has a destination but also waypoints so should be a good trial for it.
Whilst here, would like to ask if you know how to restart a paused OTA Update I have been sent, was installing fine, paused itself & can't get it going again.

Hi Stuart, is it actually paused? I know the processors in the cars are low powered so they don’t interrupt your experience behind the wheel. It’s quite common for the updates to take a week or two especially with it only installing when the car is physically on.
@@npoleary Hi, once you get into system settings & go down to updates, it does actually say 'paused'. I was under the impression once the car was running it would restart but NO, I tried tapping the screen thinking it would restart but NO, so not sure where to go from here.
Hi Stuart, best thing in this situation is to get in contact with the the Mercedes me help team via the app.
Top left and the help button
They can then run some checks and advise from there if the car needs to be booked in but they may be able to get it going remotely.

Hey Peter, sadly it’s not available everywhere in the world as it’s country dependent. If you’re based in the UK, make sure that your car is connected to your Mercedes me account, your Terms of Use accepted and you have the relevant services switched on in the portal.
If you get stuck, just get in touch with your local Mercedes-Benz I’m sure they’ll be able to help you out!
Hi Nick, I have a 2019 E Class (68 plate) but what3words isn’t working for me. I can send it to my Mercedes Me app, but when it loads up in the car it just shows a location in the USA. It’s also the same US location regardless of the three word combination I put in. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks.
Hi Ivor, just make sure your car is linked to your Mercedes me account. It must be linked for this to work.

Nick, I have a MB GLA250e in Spain. The MBUX is configured in Spanish and I have no idea what command to use to activate W3W navigation. Even the reseller was not able to tell me. They said it only works in English. But anytime I seek for an address in the MBUX it indicates the W3W for that place. Could you please help? tks a lot!!!

I did have someone else comment and I believe they asked their local dealership. From their response it seems it’s not available in Australia but I’ve only read that in the comments section so don’t know for sure.

It’s available on MBUX here in the UK and it also has to be linked to a Mercedes me account for it to operate.

Mmm, that’s strange David. I wonder if a Mercedes-Benz showroom would be able to check to see if the software on your model is completely up to date? Maybe worth an ask if you’re passing?

Hi Nick, just received my 2021 A class, and I'm trying to use WhatThreeWords. Using Voice command doesnt seem to work (she doesn't know what to do) and when I try the "Share" to Mercedes Me option on the What Three Words app, it always says "The chosen location can't be found. Please select another location". On every location, I've tried numerous locations just in case.
Any ideas what might be going wrong?

It usually takes a couple of mins for it to connect after starting but if you’re still having issues, I’d advise to probably get in touch with your local Mercedes-Benz showroom and I’m sure they can try to help 🤓

Here in the UK, a car needs to be connected to your Mercedes me account, Terms of Use Accepted and all of the extra services switched on
Is only available if you set your mbux in English language and if you download the what3words app in English . After that , you have to pronounce the words in English and it works . Otherwise not , it’s a pity

Hey Bughogus, it should just show you your location immediately after opening the app. Just double check your location settings on your smartphone as they might be off.
There is also a search bar at the top where you can type in an address 🤓
@@npoleary Thx for the reply. But my location has always been ON but the app never shows my current location. The top search for keying address is Ok if I know the address but what if I dont know what address at the point I’m standing. The app surely cannot convert the location into the what3words?. And I cannot share the 3 codes.

When the app is opened it always shows the location of where you are and the 3 words so not sure why it’s not working for you. If you’re having issues you can reach out to What3Words via their website and they might be able to advise.

It should officially work with NTG 5.5 which you should have in your car. Next tine you pop into your local Mercedes-Benz, just ask them and they maybe able to advise if it needs a software update or something.
This is great....if it works. The MBUX in my C Class refuses to work. Trawled lots of suggestions online and e mailed Mercedes but no fix. Such a shame as we really think it's a great idea

Yep, in the UK. I'm hoping we've solved it. Mercedes told me to Log in to my Mercedes Me account online. There they told me to update all the digital extras, which hadn't been updated when we bought the car. We haven't had a chance to test things yet but fingers crossed this will fix it. Thx for getting back to me by the way and loving the videos. They've been a huge help to Mercedes newbies.👍
Ah that was my next thing to suggest was turn on your Digital Extras.
They should always be on, never really a reason to have them off or you’ll find things won’t work in the car!

Is that the Hey Mercedes voice assistant? I know that in the UK, Mercedes me powers the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant so you need to:
Have a Mercedes me account
Have your car linked
Terms of Use Accepted
Relevant Services switched on

Hello Nick. Being tech savvy (ex-aircraft engineer and IT professional) I watch all your videos appertaining to my recently purchased (5th Sept 2022) EQB 300 AMG Line Premium. I have found that everything works except for What 3 words. I have my me account linked to the car with the correct profile and it shows me against the profile. I am also logged onto my PC and have the me account running on my android phone Samsung S10+ and I regularly send routes and addresses directly to the car. I can also use "Hey Mercedes" with 99% accuracy for all Sat Nav functions.
HOWEVER, WHAT 3 WORDS DOES NOT WORK. Is there a pre-requisite that I am missing? The "Hey Mercedes" just does not seem to function. There is no error message. It just seems to take one of the 3 words and use it in the search function with no results. Advice required. Thanks.

Yes it does work through Mercedes me in the car, the command is “Hey Mercedes, Navigate to What3Words….and then the 3 words.”
If that’s not working though, best thing to do is first speak to Mercedes me support and see if they can find anything wrong.
After that I’d just probably say contact your local dealership and one of Mercedes technicians should be able to take a look.

OK. Thanks, Nick. I found the problem. It is all down to signal strength. Using What3words seems to need a far stronger mobile signal than the rest of the functions seem to need. I now have it working correctly after driving 2 miles up the road.

I took this to the next stage on my android phone and sending to my EQB
Prerequisites
Mercedes me configured for the user in the car
what3words app logged in on the phone
Mercedes me logged in on the phone
Open the what3words app and search for the required postal address.
Click on it and adjust it to the exact position that is required. This will give the exact what3words position address.
At the bottom of the what3words app, select Navigate and select the Mercedes me, and when it appears in the box send it to the car.
When you go to the car, all the information is there.
Having a few issues with this using NTG, I’ll keep persisting and give any feedback .
Next time your car’s in Neil, ask your local Mercedes-Benz. The official videos show that it should work on NTG 5.5 but it may just need a software update or something.

@@npoleary Hi Nick, I'm having issues also, I have a C43, bought from your garage in January, and it has NTG 5.5 but my local Mercedes dealer has had it in to hopefully fix it and sadly they were unable to help and they say it only works on NTG 6. Do you think they are correct? Would appreciate your thoughts my friend
Mmm it’s strange quite a few people have been saying it doesn’t work on their car but I have definitely seen an advert for it with NTG 5.5:

and used it myself which was in an S-Class. I’m wondering to myself if it’s on all vehicles with MBUX and only S-Class’s with NTG 5.5 as it’s definitely worked before.

Didn't work on my brand new GLA 71 plate
Sadly I’ve heard from comments on UA-cam it doesn’t work everywhere in the world as it can vary massively from country to country. If you’re based in the UK, I know it works through Mercedes me so make sure that it’s connected to your account and it’s all switched on.

No just, a Mercedes me account created, car linked, Terms of Use accepted and the relevant services switched on.
Internet in the Car isn’t needed for that as that just sends internet to your devices like your home internet 🤓

Hey ccgilliatt, unfortunately no but it’s really easy to get your What3words address on your phone. Just download the app and it’ll tell you straight away when you launch it.
