Thank you Lamont for filming this piece on on one of the "Our Gang" members. I am 58 years old and grew up watching their Movie Shorts along with the Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy & Abbott and Costello. It was fun entertainment from a bygone era that will never return due to the "Woke Culture" we live in today. FYI to all, the reason why we don't see the Little Rascals/Our Gang flicks anymore is thanks to Bill Cosby who purchased the film catalog and viewing rights in order to not have them seen ever again because of the "Black Stereotype" portrayed from that era. I guess he found these movie shorts too offensive but his sexual treatment toward woman was not. So much for supporting Civil Rights!
Thank you Lamont for bringing this sad story to our attention. Glad the generous people of Baltimore provided those beautiful headstones for him and his mother. RIP Chubby❤

The Our Gang productions were called "Shorts," which usually one or two would run before the featured movie in a theatre. Each "Reel" was 10 minutes long, so they were known as One Reel or Two Reel Shorts. All of the Three Stooges films were shorts. Laurel and Hardy made several. They began to fade out in a late 1950's, but by then television was in full swing and shorts were perfect for TV programming. Running shorts on TV is what revived the Three Stooges career after it was considered dead in the water. It was only then that they started making feature films in the 1960s.

And thank you for sharing!
I'm so sorry his life went the way it did and that he died so young. I just would have wished much better for him. I hardly ever see cemeteries that seem creepy to me, but this one sure did!
Glad you did this video. I sometimes feel like he has been forgotten compared to Alfalfa and Darla and Spanky to name a few. I read that he was a straight A student all through school. Sadly he was the first member of Our Gang/ The Little Rascals to pass away and the only one to pass away before the series ended.
Yeah, following generations, especially in the 80's, sensationalized them, even making a fad out of Buckwheat with t-shirts and framed neon posters. I heard that the director's personal favorite was Farina. But virtually no one ever talks about him.
He was such a sweet little guy. ❤️ Several of these children were very poor. 💔 I watched Little Rascals all the time when I was little and introduced them to my kids and grandchildren. I felt sorry for this boy because I wasn’t as heavy like him, but kids can be so cruel. 💔 God Bless his memory. 🙏🏻😔❤️
Thank you for taking the time to remember people like you do. Reminds me of my grandmother Edna Cox Woolum who was postmaster at a small community in Southern Kentucky. She would take me when I was little, we would go to the Henson cemetery and put flowers on graves and clean neglected graves pretty much every weekend. Rest in peace Granny Woolum and Norman Chaney

Just watched Chubby and gang with my granddaughter. Colorized on one of the fire stick channels. She was fascinated with the Ninety year old clothes, autos ect.
Our Gang were actually movie shorts shown in theaters starting in the teens and going through to the early forties. They changed the name to Little Rascals when the films were shown on TV in the early fifties and they got a whole new audience of devotees.
Chubby was my mom's first cousin, Norman Channey was a stage name, his real name was Leo Law, he was my grandfather's brother's son, he was originally from Liveoak Florida. My mom said he used come down to visit them when they were kids.
They were called one reels because they were on one reel or shorts they were usually under 20 minutes. They were shown before feature length or in between double features. There are some our gang/ little rascals on UA-cam and a bunch on Amazon prime. He was a very talented young man. Great job! Thank you.

Hi Lamont, that’s very sad, they both died so young, he just wanted to be a normal kid, bless him, RIP to the both of them, what a nice person to pay for them to have grave stones. Xxxx
RIP. Norman. You have suffered a great deal . They did all they could do, and he was determined to drop the pounds. Sadly the toll out weighed the source. Years has passed, and modern technology and education has increased. Upon his passing, his beloved mother has suffered too. She mot only lost her son, she became ill as well.
REST IN PEACE.
Never knew who he was but now thanks to you Lamont, I do. RIP Norman!!
Lamont at large my favorite UA-cam channel..YOUR CONTENT IS AWESOME!keep up the great work
For such a dangerous area with alot of thieves you sure are a brave man for walking around with a camera filming
Awesome vlog, LaMont! Very detailed. I love Our Gang/The Little Rascals! “Chubby” was great! It’s sad that both he and his mother died so tragically young. RIP Norman and Carolyn
Thank you for making so many videos while you were here in Baltimore! I live in Northeast. I learned about a new graveyard today! His death is very sad and tragic, but it’s amazing what a wonderful life he had while he was alive!
The memories of this program makes me feel warm inside I still have Our Gang and Little Rascals on DVD. Big part of my childhood along with the Three Stooges.
BIG THANK YOU LAMONT FOR TELLING US Norman's story it was very interesting video as always you do it with compassion and kindness and understanding that's why we all love you so much and not forgetting all the traveling you put into makeing these videos 💯 percent in everything you do you are a fantastic job with a heart for gold 💛 so kind as well..
Has to be a super rough area for you to say, go thru a stop sign. The stones after 75 years are very nice. RIP Mom and Son.
Thank you Lamont for bringing this sad story to our attention. Glad the generous people of Baltimore provided those beautiful headstones for him and his mother. RIP Chubby❤
Thanks for the video Lamont! Love the channel
Lamont, did you know you are also at a “The Wire” filming location in that cemetery? In season one of “The Wire,” McNaulty and Greggs meet Omar at that cemetery to talk to him and Brandon. Rest In Peace Michael K. Williams.
Good eye I didn't notice it, The wire was a Dope series
@@g-tall665 Yeah, for sure. One of my fav series of all-time. That season is one of the best. All shot on location around B-More.
It was so kind of that DJ to raise money for grave markers for both of them. Thank you Lamont for covering this and for going to North Avenue where the cemetery is. THIS is why we all love you Lamont. God bless you. ❤
This was a good one! I’m a big r-gang fan, having watched them over 50 years ago. I wish they would start replaying these old Timey classics. Sometimes you just wonder what happened to these kids, and you nailed it. RIP chubby.
Thanks so much, Lamont. I remember OUR GANG from my early childhood. One of the best shows ever.RIP.
I would imagine back in the day, when this young man passed, this was a beautiful cemetery
and a nice place to be laid to rest.
It's sad that it's in a city with such high crime rates..
Where is Baltimore? I'm irish and just curious
@@aimeemyers1 It's in the state of Maryland and is east of the US Capitol in DC.
Thanks for Remembering this Good child actor!!! He was a funny character !!! RIPNormman!!! The little rascals is a very good child comedy!!! You can watch the episodes on UA-cam!!!!
@@aimeemyers1 it's in the state of Maryland which is the 10th wealthiest state in America per Capita , much richer and wealthier than Scotland , Wales , Dublin , London and most European cities and countries thank you very much for your concern !
@@JT-nf9tk thank u 🥰
I’m from Baltimore and I don’t know them at all but it’s very sad that they died very young thank you so much for sharing this video and thank you for coming to Baltimore can you please comeback again
Yes Angenette, and hopefully Lamont can let us know when he comes back.
He must came in the later shows .
Television was still essentially a laboratory toy in 1929, the year that Hal Roach's Our Gang Comedies transitioned from silent to sound and also the year 'Chubby' was hired. His first appearance (Railroadin' - released June 15, 1929) was thought to be silent until an original 'sound on disc' track was discovered for it in the late 1970s, making it the second earliest Our Gang 'talkie' known.
The Our Gang Comedies were short subjects produced from 1922 through 1944. Short subjects, or 'shorts' (for short) were shown in theaters prior to a feature film as were newsreels and animated cartoons.
The Our Gang franchise was sold to MGM when Roach left the short subject game in 1938, only to buy back rights for distribution in 1949 of Our Gang shorts produced from 1927 through 1938. MGM, however, retained rights to the 'Our Gang' name. It was that catalog of 79 shorts that were rebadged as The Little Rascals and re released to theaters in 1950 before being marketed to television stations beginning in 1954.
So heartbreaking but very interesting Lamont. Thank you love your channels. Be safe please
Damn, that sucks. 😢 in a weird way, I'm glad his mom didn't have to wait too long to be reunited with her baby. 😔
Growing up I always watched The Little Rascals, just about every episode, I remember chubby very well, I'm so very sad to hear that he had such a difficult life and couldn't enjoy his childhood as he should have, thank you so much for showcasing his life for us, at least now we can understand a bit of what he went through and the Beautiful gravestones that the generous person paid to have installed, may him and his mom rest in peace, I guess you just never know what somebody else is going through, God bless them both! And thank you for sharing!
Lamont, as always, great job. Baltimore is a grim-looking city, and that cemetery is the grimmest-looking cemetery I have ever seen.
Baltimore is not.
Horrible looking cemetery.
Thanks for visiting Baltimore. Every city has its rough spots but Baltimore is a great place to visit.
A candle that burns twice as bright, only lasts half as long. Norman Chaney burned "VERY BRIGHTLY!"
R.I.P. Chubby.
Best opening lines and images I've seen yet. As SOON as I saw the wallet, I knew where it was going. Good stuff. My birthday comment on UA-cam.
Another classic my Uncle 👌🏿Love your videos that take me back to a very different time 🙏🏿
Thank you for sharing this video!! Be safe, Peace and love🙏❤
I'm so sorry his life went the way it did and that he died so young. I just would have wished much better for him. I hardly ever see cemeteries that seem creepy to me, but this one sure did!
That was quite a front entrance. But I would have no problem spending a few hours just exploring that cemetery.
@@briankay4229 for sure, but only in the daytime.
Very cool and thoughtful of that DJ to get those headstones for them. Gives them some deserved recognition.
The films were called "shorts". Short films. The Three Stooges' films were also shorts. This sort of thing came before or between major films.
I meant Jenson cemetery.
The "Our Gang/Little Rascal" films were shown in movie theaters, along with newsreels and cartoons, along with the feature film. They obviously weren't made for TV, but were shown on TV years later.

So amazing to me that you did this vlog, Lamont! I’ve wanted to visit his grave but I live in California so I’ve only been to the graves closer to home
That's nice of the DJ raised money for their headstones! God Bless Him ! 🙏
Yes I remember Chubby and love watching Our Gang and Little Rascals ! RIP Chubby 🙏❤️
Chubby was my mom's first cousin, Norman Channey was a stage name, his real name was Leo Law, he was my grandfather's brother's son, he was originally from Liveoak Florida. My mom said he used come down to visit them when they were kids.
R.i.p chubby LovE u .. Miss u 💋 an thee gang favorite show very much watch it all the time when I was kid up to adult age collected all of them
They were called one reels because they were on one reel or shorts they were usually under 20 minutes. They were shown before feature length or in between double features. There are some our gang/ little rascals on UA-cam and a bunch on Amazon prime. He was a very talented young man. Great job! Thank you.
Yes, indeed;

Thanks again for doing the story. I loved watching our gang as a kid very happy memories.
I use to watch them a lot. When I was a kid. 🙏🏼❤️
lol "Don't call me Norman; Call me 'Chubsy-Ubsy'"..i loved that rascal!..One of the best scenes with Gary Cooper...Thanx for covering this guy Lamont!!
I used to watch our gang as a little kid in the early to mid 90’s had me cracking up.I thought his name was spanky…it would be cool if you could do a video on the rest of the our gang members a little history on them and how they passed.
Good video per usual, Thanks Lamont.
Thank you for sharing his story. Can you do one with the rest of the our gang actors? I watched the show growing up. RIP
Many thanks for posting. The "Little Rascals" was, and will always be a part of my life! May they all rest in Paradise!
I live about 15 minutes from there , That is North Ave and yes very rough area but there are worse places in Baltimore than that. I have been to that grave many times but just around the corner from this cemetery is Greenmount Cemetery John Wilkes Booth Is buried there and the guy that invented the Ouiji board. WishbI knew you were in town would have bought you dinner or just would have been cool to meet you. Be safe out there and keep doing what you do.
Thanks for sharing this bit of history.
Some kind people in the world! Sad to see so many graves neglected, looks so neglected!
it's pretty typical of cemeteries here in the midwest that i've noticed that in the older sections the markers can start to settle. there's no family left to take care of them and the caretakers basically lets nature take its course.
I've seen much worse looking cemeteries very unkempt, you can see them everywhere really
I loved seeing him on Our Gang..bless his soul.
Thanks for such a wonderful video remembering a child actor. ❤️
THANK-YOU SIR , YOUR PRESENTATION WAS DONE VERY RESPECTFULLY.
Can you do the rest of the crew? It would be great to see where they are also. You tell the lives of the voiceless so well. Thank you
Nice to know there are people out there to provide the headstones. Much thanks to you.
I like your videos. Our Gang features were rerun for many kids of different generations. I remember all of them, and still watch them. They were just so cute and entertaining. Wonderful that the DJ was able to fund raise for these headstones. 😊
Thank you for posting this video. I live and work in Baltimore MD and had no idea that he was from here and buried here as well.
Thank you Lamont for sharing this story, Rest In Peace to both 💜 it would have been so hard for him to do everyday normal kid things. Such a cutie
Thank you Lamont. WHEN MY BIKE WAS STOLEN IN BMORE AND I CALLED THE COPS. THEY CAME AND LAUGHED AND SAID YOU AINT GETTIN THAT BIKE BACK ! THEY WERE RIGHT !
RIP Norman Myers Chaney 👼💐 being obese can take a toll on your heart and being to skinny not good as well but being that young and heavy, break my heart because it be a lot of little kids or big kids that are over weight, glad he was able to get it off but sometimes it's to little to late because most of the damage done to the heart, God bless 🙏 this Legendary Little Rascal 💙🌹 him and his Mother are together, just sadden that they both died so young, just goes to show you live life to the fullest, that Cemetery is so old school looking but beautiful, thank U Lamont At Large!!
Love watching Our Gang and The Little Rascals. Thank you Lamont for this video. Great one.
So sad to hear of Norman's life, thanks for your video.
Thank you for covering this. I moved to Baltimore several years ago and never heard this story. Keep bringing us these great vlogs.
Lamont, you are the man. Thank you for making all these episodes! I watched all their reruns back as a kid in the 1970s and remember his character very well. Sad to learn that he passed at such an early age. Keep up the great work as always! I've been watching your videos since you met that girl (girlfriend) a few years ago who traveled with you when you worked at Popeye's? Maybe it was Popeye's? :)
Thank you Lamont for sharing this video with us. It's sad that him and his mother died so young. God bless you Lamont may he watch and protect you wherever you go. We love your videos.
The cemetery looks like an entrance to a prison
You cracked me up about Baltimore....so true. I loved Our Gang and watched it as a kid. Great video
The lady who dropped her food looking at you. 😂
Good video. Just an FYI, they didn’t have TV programs back in the 1930s. The Our Gang short movies were shown in the movie theaters back then, prior to full movies. Then brought to television in the 1950’s.
