So I know this is a year old but I am from Baltimore and I'm an electrician. And I did all the restorations on the church you were showing. Underneath the church are the catacombs no one's allowed down there but I had to run a bunch of EMT which is electrical conduit through the basement and the catacombs. Literally crawling over coffins or concrete slabs that contain the dead bodies the run conduits throughout the basement and catacombs. Unfortunately I don't have any ghost tales to tell it was very normal I worked there for 8 hours a day for over 6 months I guess the only thing scary happened was my stupid coworkers trying to scare me as I would work in the catacombs LOL but it was definitely interesting working in the Edgar Allan Poe cemetery that's all I have. I'm also a musician and I play at the horse you came on all the time.

As a kid, the Vincent Price/Roger Corman Poe film series is what got me into Poe's literary works. Those films perpetuated a mood and atmosphere that has never been duplicated. They impeccably encapsulated and thereby projected the tangiblity of what the books invoked. Tales of Terror, The Fall of the House of Usher and the Pit and the Pendulum are my favorites. Read the books and watch the films----they're timeless.

Holy crap, the last time I've been to Poe's house it was a bare field in front of his home, now it looks like some apartments. Guess it's been a while. Hopefully the house stands for years to come... Glad you enjoy Baltimore so much. There's a lot of bad here but quite a bit of good too... Hope you caught a game at The Yard while you were here...

My paternal grandfather, who sadly passed when I was a baby so I didn't know him, was originally from Mississippi but was fascinated by Baltimore, and I have his notebooks full of sketches of every tiny element of the town, such as gaslamps, manhole covers, gas mains, porches, fences, all kinds of things. He and his parents are buried in Baltimore. Wish I could visit them. Coincidentally my grandfather passed in a similar way to Poe, minus the drinking. Love your work & passion for your subjects.

It does in fact get more grim than Edgar Allan Poe. Virginia Poe's body was interred in the mausoleum of friends in New York, where they lived at the time. Decades later, a Poe scholar and mega-fan stole her skelton, claiming it was to preserve her from destruction as the cemetery was being torn down. She was eventually given back to the Poe family who then had her interred to the right of Poe, where she currently rests in a small bronze casket. At least when Edgar was moved it was only the once, and in the same boneyard cemetery.

I worked in Baltimore for almost 30 years. The last time I visited the grave (2019) the police stopped and asked me if I needed assistance- it's a dodgy part of town. Be careful. Remember the observation told to me by said police- "Get your business done by 11:00 am. The bad guys generally go to sleep at 5:00 and you're safe until lunch".

It's such a shame. In life the man was treated like a bum and died basically alone. Now he's an American Legend

There’s a legend here in Maryland about that cemetery that there’s a old lady sprit that if you see her it’s best to run because she will chase you and scream in your face
