1:10 "Okay, let's start with an Oberview"
Ha!
You win today 😂
6.6.24.... lets start with another video?
I'm an addict of the worst kind.
Yes!!! I've been waiting for a synth like this. The Oberheim sound + DSI / Sequential style engine = lots of freedom in sound design. The sonic flexibility is going to be huge. Thanks!
Same, I believe the new sequential (take-5) engine is the deepest analog polysynth design there is on a modern synth
It’s like a p12 but all analog
Looking forward to seeing what bizarre obscure video clips pair best with the sound of the TEO-5 and your custom patches 🙂
So all that silence was loopop making video after video
These take a long time to make...
@@loopop of course 💪🔥
I was thinking the same thing! Must’ve had a crazy disciplined schedule making all these in depth overviews 😅 great job as always 🙏💪
Thank you for all the videos Loopop, is an amazing contribution for the music and audio community 🙏 peace and good vibes from Brazil 🎉
@@loopopAnd we GREATLY appreciate your work 🙏 Nobody does it like Loopop ✌️✨
I love that Obeihem and Sequential are getting into the compact world and budget without loosing that classic tone
It's just hard to decide on which is best to buy when you're both a Prophet AND Oberheim kinda guy.... Of course BOTH would be awesome but let's be realistic... :)
buy one every year or two :)
Your content is like a beam of light in the gray routine. I watch and forget about everyday worries.
I can't figure out how Loopop is releasing video after video... It's like 5 within 48h, that's mad, props to him!
All it takes is a sleepless month!
@@loopop Ha ! Ha ! Ha !

What an amazing synth! Thanks for all your hard work loopop!
Would love to see a video with a full comparison of this to an OB-6.
Me too. I'm wondering if the oscillators sound the same or not. I see the difference in waveform selection, but I wonder if these sound bright and buzzy like the OB6's.
Same, OB6 is my favorite synth that I own but this looks like a contender for replacament
That patch at 40:39…So nice! Awesome vid as usual, Loopop, thank you.
Been waiting to hear this, thank you for all your hard work! I love my take 5 more than anything so im excited to get my hands on this.🔊✨✨✨
Fantastic review , fantastic synth, it’s a good time to be a synthesist ! Your work is always inspiring and informative! Thanks a million!
Thanks a lot for this video! Facts, Demos, important aspects, ... in two words: very helpful!!! Thanks again for your work! ❤
I have huge respect for you, These videos must take forever to plan, shoot and edit.
Thanks for the video, your work is fantastic as always!!!
God I’m glad I waited to get my first analog polysynth. This superbooth is crazy lol
lol I just bought a Prophet 10 after wanting one for years. No regrets, though. It was a crazy sale price and demo deal. But I had a feeling with all the sales last month that some major synths were coming.
@@Space_pulse Can’t feel too bad walking away with a prophet 10! That’s a legendary synth, congrats!
@@Space_pulseGreat choice.
We love loopop!🎉
Good video will watch it more thoroughly soon. Appreciate your work!
Obviously, I want all the synths. But, this doesn't give me any buyer's remorse about the Take 5, luckily. I was worried watching this would have me listing my T5 to order this, since I can't really justify two poly's. Amazing video as always. I never thought I'd rewatch synth demo videos, but I regularly revisit yours.
It's a 5 voice poly, I think anyone could justify two
Loopop is on a Streak 🔥!!!
My phone is overheating with all that synth power you are emitting this week.
Ever since this Superbooth started, my account balance just shows:😂😂😂
Sounds really nice! Pretty cool that they have put TZ FM/Cross Modulation into this Synth.
Another perfect demo. Thank you!!
(That Tommy preset sounds soooooo gooood.)
Great overview, as ever. Thank you!
Jeez. All these cool synths I'll probably never buy but that doesn't stop me enjoying how they sound.
What a beauty!!
Incredible. Do you know if it can receive MPE/Polyphonic Aftertouch like some of the other Sequential synths ?
42:30 - This sounds lovely.
I think this is my new fav synth.
Been Looking forward to this one! mine is on preorder! can't wait! great review as always sir! would love to see a full 61 note, bi timbral 12 or 16 voice version of this Synth format, Take 5 has been one of the best modern architectures from Sequential since the P12.
I can't wit to see what you do with it, it sounds much thicker and deeper than the PB12 imo.
@@dankeplace t’s undoubtedly Oberheim that is for sure ❤️ can’t wait to get my hands on it 😊
I agree. It’s a fantastic platform. Sequential has a way of dancing around the obvious choice sometimes.
@@thedarkestrainbow
I hated the Take 5 moniker when it 1st came out, I thought it was a representation of the take over.
It was explained that this was a Sequential design before and that the name made sense.
Take 5, as in Take 5 voices of Sequential easily with you.
It makes sense, but I still hate the name lol.
Teo 5 is cooler imo.
Pre-ordered one too LOL! Can't wait to hear your patches!
Appreciate your videos loopop! You're the go-to for unbiased and insightful gear reviews.
One question, if you have the time: were you able to confirm whether or not it responds to polyphonic aftertouch via MIDI, like the OB6 and Prophet 6 do?
I've heard the Take 5 does respond to external PolyAT but it can be a real trick to get that feature working...
Spotted the All of my love patch from Led Zeppelin. Nicely done!
Wow! This really came out of left field. Glad I didn’t cave to the Ub-Xa. Happy to give my money to Tom Oberheim and Seqential.
Yes you side stepped a pile of regret 🎉
Sequential NEEDS to build their own librarians just like Moog has done. Come on guys! You can outsource the devs to build this.
You know it’s a good point now that they are owned by focusrite im sure they would have access to quality companies that could program a nice Vst. Maybe they just don’t want their work confused with someone else’s ?
Great review! Amazing new sound possibilities! I sure miss the Oberheim Pitch/Mod paddles, though. And what about a desktop version that can be poly-chained for 10-voice polyphony?
loopop >>>>>
Looks awesome! Leaning towards getting this, but please compare sonics to OBX-8 and OB-6 (and UBXA)
A keyboard poly Oberheim for the Price of a Sub37 is actually really cool!
I need this and Take 5 to go with my Hydrasynth Explorer 💯
Sounds amazing. Imagine a synth like this with a powerful sequencer built in/
Can’t wait for the PWM Mantis review!! ❤
44:52 Man those Brass sounds of Oberheim, epic Thanks - loopop - To Bad my Matrix-6R is broken
It's a great sounding synth without the asking $
It would be great if you can do an in-depth comparison with the TEO and the OB-X8.
How cool is that🙂👍 Finally a new Polyphonic Matrix Oberheim synth at a very reasonable price. Based on the Oberheim SEM with just as much umf and dynamics and just as full and warm as a real Oberhem SEM. As far as I know it's the first polyphonic synth through-zero x-mod fm, Which makes it possible harmonic FM like on a dx7 but with analog oscillators. A user interface that is more hands on than the much more expensive OB-X8. It is very difficult not to be tempted.
It's Great that they have the SEM filter on it. You should be able to make some signature OB6 sounds.
Sounds really good for the price
@loopop are the oscillatiors and filter the same as the OB-6? Cant work out if its worth to pay the extra for the 6.
I don't have an OB-6 to compare but if you can hear a difference in demos it might be worth it and if you can't it's not
Hi, I wondered this myself, however I now believe the oscillators are SSI2130 chips, the same as the Take 5. In Starsky's video it was said that they're SSI, which is why I'd guess the same as the Take 5.
J3po said the oscillators are from Take 5, filter Ob6, and LFO/ENV from OBX8
@@thedarkestrainbowI am hearing that the filters are actually one of the three from x8
This synth has very nice tone, very pleasing.
you had me literally at the first note. instant PS1 startup. add some twinklies for the disc read and I'll be happy forever lol
so is the overdrive a digital effect?
Yes both the overdrive and distortion fx are digital .. heard this from a sequential rep
It’s got a display! That’s a major improvement over my beloved OB-6, thought it won’t affect the sound, other than allowing you to chose the right patch! 😂
I know it's a small thing but I'm glad you brought up patch naming. I had a GEM synth in the 90s that "did it right": use that big old keyboard sitting there to enter characters, not 4 cursor keys! White keys == letters (in this case, f0=A, c3=Z). First black keys for Insert, Backspace, Toggle Case, etc. Tap a white key multiple times for variations (a, å, æ, etc). A little weird to describe but after using it a few times it feels very natural.
Nice!
It looks very nice tbh! Kudos for your in-depth review! Question: How do you think it compares to the TAKE5 in terms of OS-flexibility and workflow?
You're welcome! It's pretty much the same OS as far as I can tell, just the analog bits (osc, filter fm) that are different
@@loopop ah, thanks for sharing! Will try it out tomorrow on SB!
SEEMS LIKE A NICE COMPACT UNIT WITH THE OBERHEIM SOUND AND LOOKS.
Watching this gonna be dangerous: not even 5 minutes in and almost sold 😩
The bass frequencies on this synth are incredible!!!!!
awesome
Bro opened the video by teasing the PS1 intro sequence 👏
27:14 instant PSX startup sound.
also at.... 00:00 lol
Watching your demonstration of the unison function and the chord mode, the first thing that popped in my head was Dennis DeYoung playing his first two or three Oberheim synthesizers with Styx. He achieved that outstanding lead tone that we hear on “Miss America” and “Renegade” by detuning Osc. 2 up a fifth from Osc. 1 and switching on the portamento. That sound could be more easily achieved with the chord mode function here.
how about compare to ob6?
A beautiful synth . . . I hope you get to keep it or were well compensated for your time!
Thanks - yes I keep it and no I don't accept compensation beyond that
@@loopop You're going to end up with a synth museum very soon!
Do u know if the sequencer has quantize?
Great review as always! I have a few questions. Did they update the effects in the Teo 5, or are they the same as in the Take 5? Also, you mentioned that you can assign velocity to both the filter and the amp. What about the pitch? Can velocity be assigned to pitch if the pitch is assigned to the filter envelope? Lastly, regarding the cross-modulation, can X-Mod be assigned to the envelope? Thanks! :)
My pleasure, thanks! I don't know if the effects are the same - I don't have a Take 5, but my guess is they are. The answer to the rest of your questions is yes :)

Thank you very much!
BTW you inspired me to make a sound of Duduk on VA subtractive synth (emulation of Jupiter 8 and System 100). I’m very close. :)
Stay safe and continue with great work!
@@roggyo my pleasure that’s great to hear!
A poly with sync and tzfm is awesome!
Good grief! What is up with all the beautiful machines coming out? My bank account is unable to manage all the goodness. Love love this...Love the Polybrute...love the Murmux....give me a break.... K. I'm good. Carry on.
Sounds amazing.
38:00 is great
For me as a OB-6 owner this is a tough one! I like how it has more features than the OB6 (2nd LFO, Through 0 FM, Mod Matrix, a real display), but why did they move essentials like Osc volume to the menu? Thank you for the great review, which covers all the details and gives a good impression of this synthesizer.
they needed the space
For me, personally, the OB-6 not having a display is an advantage. It doesn't need one as it's all knob per function
@@robbieddavies For programming I am totally with you! But I find it hard to organise my sounds, find them later and not overwrite anything by accident when I create new sounds.
@@robbieddavies The downside of a synth with only knob per function is they are usually very simple
@@jamaharonI know - I like that and find I'm more productive with simplicity
Gots to have it.
Loopop…will Moog drop the Muse? I’ll take a like as confirmation
Buying one based on this review.
I would definitely like to see a poly moog in this price range.
A little detail that I find to be killer that you didn't call out is when you are turning the "frequency" knob to change pitch, the screen shows not only the amount of change you've made, but what the resulting note is as well. Very handy.
Is this a prank Loop?
I forgot to ask in previous posts but did Sequential send you a custom Teo5?
It has Loopop as the patch.
How much to buy broski?
No just a few patches a made - not for sale
Tom Sawyer in the intro ❤
Would 2 TEO-5 synths side by side plus 2 octave down split on the highest key of the synth on the left = 10 OB voices with 88 keys?
It would be a Super Gemini-like TEO-10! It would look a bit silly and make playing in the middle where we spend most of our time a bit odd you could do it ofc
I know its early days for this bad boy, but i am a gtr player who currently uses soft synths (serum, massive etc) and im about to pull the trigger and purchase my first hardware synth. Should i go for the oberhiem teo5, sequential take 5 or behringer ubxa???
To my ears there is something special about the prophet sound, particularly the warmth from the filter. This was not as present on the OB-6. It’s hard to understand from watching UA-cam demos. So I would recommend forgoing the hype and checking out the Take 5 for the 24db filter
fighting the behringer!
I am still waiting for a Poly-Pro3 (“Pro 3*5” = “Pro 15” ?) from Sequential, but this is arguably the best Ob synth on the market (especially considering the price). Thanks for another excellent review, Ziv.
My birthday isn’t for a month, so many videos 🖤
What do y’all recommend for lush pads this or Prophet 5? I know P5 is more expensive but that ain’t what I asked lol
I am thinking about selling my synths to get both of those. P5 excels at bread and butter sounds. This can clearly get a bit more freaky. However, there is something to be said for a 12db filter, the slope being a bit wider can lead to some very lush sounds with multiple voices. If you ask me, the king of lush pads is the Jupiter, but since that's not being made, you just need to decide which filter is more useful to you.
Nice, love the Oberheim sound, maybe I will still buy it as an extra addition to my OB-6. It can create completely different and different sounds with the modulation and different oscillators. Oscillators do not seem to be the same after a quick comparison. The filter also sounds more like the Pro-3 2 pole OTA filter. I also have the take 5, so I can see the possibility's in sound design.
So would you say your OB-6 oscillators and filter sound nicer ? I want to get an OB-6 soon, TEO5 looks good but I don't wanna miss out on the sound of the OB6 if it is indeed better. (Better is subjective I know but you understand what I mean)
@@CraigConnellyTV I would buy the OB-6 over the TEO 5. The Oscillater are discreet and gritty, while the TEO 5 has the Sequential chips used for the Pro 3, Take 5, P'08 and REV2. The frequentie range of the OB-6 goes above 20K, while the Take 5 is between 10 and 15, maybe 20K. They say they used the same SEM filter as the OB-6, but it sounds different to me and closer to the Pr 3 2 pole OTA filter, probably because they share the same Oscillator chips, it sounds less crunchy, less distorted. I think that's why they added the overdrive. I might buy the TEO 5 as well, because the Oscillators are different, you can use 3 waveforms on both oscillators and at the same time. If you want you can use 6 waveforms at the same time by pressing them all. The XMOD is overhauled and nicer to the ears and the LFO's are different. Then you have the many Modulation sources and destinations and not to forget way better effects. The OB-6 effects are not good and the Take 5 are better, these TEO 5 effects might be even better then both synths effects. Still, you might have to wait to make a comparison before you buy, because the TEO 5 sounds like a OB-6 and could be more creative then the OB-6 for you. You can at least create sounds that you can't on the OB-6 with it's extra waveform on the first Oscillator and other new features in that oscillator section.
@@CraigConnellyTVAre you gonna use the OB6 for your trance stuff? Im was looking at either OB6 myself, and I keep jumping between synthwave and trance stuff. Now I'm not sure between or OB6 either, scared to make the wrong choice 😬
@@brianlespoir6287if I had an OB-6 I wouldn’t be looking for another oberheim
@@ozten3530I think you would be good with either but if you don’t have an OB than the TEO-5 is the right choice because of the price.
I have Take 5 and was dreaming of OB 6. In your opinion, is this TEO closer to Take or OB6 (sound)? Does it make sense to Take it for those who have the Take?
T5 is a Sequential sound, Teo5 is a Oberhiem, these synths will complement each other, it would be commercial suicide for Sequential to release 2 similar sounding devices, it's not just smart business wise.
Wait for the custom patches to come out, Inhalt did the ones you hear so you're in good hands as you hear it.
@@dankeplace thanks. But perhaps the Behringer ubxa makes more sense to pair with the Take to have an Oberheim sound. After all, this teo only has the OB6 filter (which I love) but the same oscillators as the Take
I have the Take 5, this is definitely more aggressive and dirty.
@@RoyChartier They probably have the same "box" and command layout for a constructive saving (since Oberheim uses Sequential factories) but in essence they are very different machines...
It immediately sounds more alive than the Behringer UB-xa, I’ve had one of those and an OB6 and the TEO sounds great.
Keep in mind this one has digital effects on board while the UB-xa doesn't. Some reverb can really make a difference.
Yeah but I’ve owned a UBxa, I thought it was dull
Sold my OB-6 a couple years ago and it still pains me...This might scratch that itch for a while 🙃
Since you didn't have the info for the video, in the US it's being listed at $1499.99, which is the same as the current Take 5 price.
The briefest of anyone saying Hi! Otherwise we're good.😆
I'd love to hear an A/B comparison between the TEO5 and OBX8, or even and A/B/C between TEO5, OBX8, and OB6. It feels like the TEO5 has more in common with it's big brother the OBX8 than the OB6 to my ear (I own an OB6).
It’s UA-cam, hard to tell. Seemingly Very impressed by the raw sound of it. How did its sound clarity compare to the ob-x8 and ob-6?
I’d pay more for a Teo-8, really hated the workflow and limitations of the ob-x8.
Nice review! You've clearly been spoiled by settings+knob turn on the polybrute haha
It’s so great and I love the sound, the big problem is the only five voices for me 😔 An 8 voice version would have been amazing
43:09 can someone tell me what song is this ? I've heard it on a Prophet 5 preset too and I still don't know what it is
ua-cam.com/video/yYDh7lyqwms/v-deo.html
It’s Led Zeppelin’s “All My Love” off the In Through The Out Door album.
@@scottblanchard7542 massive huge thanks, I was looking for this tune for a very long time like a long lost item of mine, finding it again feels so good!
37:00 obx8 maybe a little brighter on that patch.
I want this but in the Rev2 form factor with 8/16 voices.
Bizarre choice to make the tuning stepped and then open up FM via TZFM. Hoping there's a way to turn that off?
not that I saw - it's like sync though, you can still modulate pitch smoothly
Does it have a digital VCA like the TAKE-5?
good question for maybe unimportant reason :)
I have an OB-6, but it's tempting to still add this synth to the set up / collection #TEO5
You could buy two of these and have 88 keys total and bi-timbrality for 600 less than an OB-6. I really like that the filter is state variable and based on the OB-6.
I really wish Sequential would make less linear envelopes. Whenever I want something snappy, I have to do recursive modulation using the aux envelope, say on Pro 3, Rev 2 etc. I love the envelopes on OB 6 and Prophet 10 tho, these don't bother me. So, as for this synth, it is a really nice entry and budget solution to owning OB synth with the distinctive SEM filter. While it doesn't rock my boat, as I do have OB6, I am sure it will be a hit, just like T5 was. Love they left option to enable multiple shapes on a single oscillator Jupiter style I prefer it to morphing. I am actually surprised screen doesn't follow pot parameters.
Things I want in a firmware update: Swing for the arpeggiator and sequencer, more "shift" functions with the bank knob, and the values for paramater changes on screen. Other than that, its perfect!
