- LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) Joe Magrane was born July 2 and in 1986 he celebrated his 22nd birthday by tossing a 3-hit shutout beating the Nashville Sounds 1-0 on the strength of a second inning home run by Jim Lindeman.
One of the 14,484 in attendance at Old Cardinal Stadium that night was WKYT's Dick Gabriel who interviewed Magrane, a Rowan County native, and Sounds' second baseman Scott Earl who played college baseball at EKU.
Magrane would go to play for the St. Louis Cardinals (1987-1993), the California Angels (1993-94), and the Chicago White Sox (1996). Earl had 35 at-bats for the 1984 Detroit Tigers.
