    I saw Fred Frith as a solo many years ago. I didn't know he could play this good. I'm impressed.

    What a lineup! Three of my favorite musicians. Charles Hayward is a total madman! I’ve got to see him several times. This Heat is the best.

    I was there! Concert Extra!
    Some pieces of Massacre sounds like SBB from the early of 70’s, especially from the first album . Recorded 30 years earlier!

    Roskilde Festival had a Laswellapalooza in 2003, with a Laswell band playing each day. When Massacre were set to play the smallish "Arena" stage (tent), quite a few younger, Metallista-looking people started to show up in the ½-hour before start time. It became fairly obvious that these kids were hoping to see the Florida metal band of the same name... After they left, within the first couple of minutes, there were maybe a couple of hundred of us left.

    ce qu’on mange, aux usages comme aux nourritures, aux locutions locales, aux intonations des paysans, aux odeurs du sol, des villages et de l’air lui-même ! (Maupassant / Le Horla)

    If you like Frith's playing, you'll dig Bill Horist as well. Frith is probably his biggest influence, but he's no imitator... he takes the ideas in another direction.

    As much as I enjoy King Crimson and the work of Robert Fripp, Henry Cow and the work of Fred Frith moves way beyond the former in complexity, beauty, fearsomeness and instrumental prowess. To not get this, to me, means your brain is stuck in a 21st Century Conventional Song Structure Feedback Loop. Remember when Fripp was railing against the big dinosaur bands, including his own? Frith took it to heart, never did one, never needed to. It's kind of like the difference between Louie Armstrong and John Coltrane. And did I mention that Frith is flat-out, the way superior guitar player?

    • @TimothyBIinks
      @TimothyBIinks 6 років тому +7

      Personally, I prefer Fripp and King Crimson's discipline and more aggressive and structured approach, while really enjoying the shit out of Frith's playing in this video. They have and had different goals and aesthetics (just like Armstrong and Coltrane for that matter), and both realized them brilliantly. So to argue over which was was better strikes me as juvenile.

    • @Bix12
      @Bix12 6 років тому +4

      What in the Hell do King Crimson and Henry Cow have in common? How about if I said......As much as I enjoy Scott Henderson and Tribel Tech, I prefer Jimi Hendrix, both with the Experience and Band of Gypsys. Yeah, a tough call I know - they are so similar. Just like even though Ritchie Blackmore is a technically better player, I prefer Jack Black because he's a nicer guy. If Blackmore wasn't such a colossal asshole, then...it'd be a tough choice. I like John Zorn better than Korn...for sure.

      @@Bix12Ok shut up already
      What they have in common is that they both do progressive music, with different approaches to it ofc, and he is just comparing the two approaches. So what is your problem? things dont have to be completely fucking identical to compare them. And Fripp did try to do experimental music with similiar structures to this in his solo career

  • @rstuvwxy7020
    @rstuvwxy7020 9 років тому +41

    Quit comparing Frith with Fripp. They're just guitarists with similar last names! Shut up!

    A bit difficult to get over how crappy the sound is. First tried to listen on my 'phone and thought it had gone wrong. Frith's guitar seems consistently low in the mix. When Hayward plays the melodica occasionally it's much louder!
