Some guy in my home town (here in Finland) has one ('55 Bel Air) in beautiful black and chrome and I've always admired the car when passing through. He keeps it parked in front of the police station...
So glad you can work on some of these old cars that are in such good condition. You’ve spent so much time getting dangerous, barely together, nothing but rust cars **driving**. Loved this episode! My dad had a red and white 55 with Cragars, also had louvres in the hood and trunk lid. Bryan’s 55 has the same driver door squeak love that sound really takes me back to car show days with my dad❤️ thanks Derek! P.s. to everyone complaining about Bryan not being on camera get over it! I thought the same thing about Brian's likely job. If so, many thanks as always for his service and awesome to see the rare '55 Bel Air got back on the road!
55's and 65's are my favorite flavors for the Belair! I owned a 65 back in around 85-86 and got to drive a 55 a couple of times. This was the best 2 1/2 of my day! Great episode!

A very rainy day here in the UK Derek and we absolutely loved watching this. What a lovely car a great job done for Brian. Thanks for sharing...Cheers for now!
This one is pretty special. That ‘ol chica is worthy of a restoration. Derek should coordinate a crowdfunding campaign to get er done. Maybe find a way to donate to a vet’s organization in the process. Would make for a killer series.
My high school auto instructor taught me that if you have internal engine parts that are sludged up and sticking such as those lifters, a quart of dextron atf in the oil and some running will clean them right up. I have used this time and time again on stuck noisy lifters, malfunctioning cam phasers, and vortech 4200 exhaust valves that get carboned up and will stick open causing big problems successfully. Just wanted to pass it along to maybe possibly help a feller out.
Agreed. And for external parts that will not release, heat & acetone/ATF in repeated cycles will often break the rusted up bond. I’ve even released threaded exhaust header clamps on motorcycles, where everyone told me “that can’t be done”!
This is another reason why VGG will always be one of my favorite channels and wish you and your family continued success. Thanks Brian for the great car and worthy charity. Thanks Lou for the use of the shop, nice shop.
Just watched this while reinstalling the heads on my old f350 with a 460. Man what a job. A younger feller as myself sure does appreciate the motivation and knowledge you provide us. Keep it up!!! You're amazing!! Hopefully a couple fellers can meet someday!!
To echo a previous commenter’s sentiments…watched the whole thing through like it was only 10 mins. Could get the sense you were time-sensitive but your editing still showed all the detail and especially the problem solving steps that entertain those of us who’ve seen this drill literally hundreds of times from you by now. One of my favorite episodes from my favorite internet car guy. Thanks for continuing to do what you do and bringing us all the joy that you do!
Just love this! It's pretty crazy he bought that at 19 and just parked it all this time. That's a fantastic 55 and thanks to your awesome generosity, it's FINALLY drivable again and perfect for bringing the rest of the way around! Really hope he keeps going with it - a future update would be awesome! My uncle purchased a 1956 BelAir 2-door in 1956. He drove it until racking up 320k miles (going through three 6-cylinder engines in the process - no oil filter), and then gave it to my cousin to use as a high school car in 1965. My cousin's first order of business to was to swap out the straight 6 for a 283 corvette motor, ran that for a while and then around 1972, installed a 427 big block and Muncie 4-speed! It was his daily driver until he bought a '72 Corvette in 1974 that took over daily duties. The '56 has sat off and on over the years but he STILL occasionally drives that '56 to this day, with that same 427 ... at 75 years old! (still owns the Vette as well) To make the story even sweeter, in addition to being a total gear head, my cousin was also a bit of a camera buff so there are plenty of pictures documenting the entire life-long process!
My older Brother owned one of these Same color's in the early 60's,May God rest his soul. I liked the car even when I was a little boy. Always hit the like before I watch.
Back in the 70's my brother was 16 working at a gas station...A guy came in with a 57 Chevy, it stalled and would not start. He sold it to my brother for 5 bucks and my brother pushed it 5 miles home to work on it!! But of course the car is long gone now.
My dad had a 1957 210 BelAir with a 283 4 speed manual when he was a teenager and that's how him and my mom met, drag racing each other, but my mom was driving my grandma's Ford station wagon with a big block. They were neck and neck coming up Fallston Hill and when it came together into one lane my mom shoved my dad up into the Patterson Heights Golf Course in Beaver Falls, PA...😂😂😂 My mom took off, but she met up with my dad again because he was a bass player in a local soul band. He said hi to her while walking off stage and the rest is history...that was 1968 and I wasn't born until 1983, but I have two older sisters and I'm the only son.
Think this is one of my favourite VGG videos out of them all, was half expecting Derek to say how much brian, him to say a number and Derek buying it from him haha would love to see this belair again once Brian's done the bits he wants to do to it
The first classic car I rode in was a 57 Belair. One of my customer's had one in his shed, and we started a conversation over it. Mid conversation he goes, hey you want to take a ride with me? I put my equipment down so fast. Something I won't forget as it happened the day before my wedding.
In 1973 my vehicle had a pinhole leak in the gas tank from a scrape. I liked to speed over a small bridge that would shoot the vehicle in the air. The vehicle was a 1963 Bel Air 4-door. At that time Bondo was advertised as a fix. The Bondo worked as advertised.

Very generously and nicely made road ready. The transmission and the rear axle need lube changing yet. Excellent video, Derek. Of course, Lou graciously provided a beautiful shop. Wow!

Thank you Derek and I hope you enjoyed Castle Craig... Spent lots of time up there in my youth!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Dave Waller
The property we recently bought came with a few vehicles. Two of which are 1957 2door hardtops and if i hadn't seen it with my own eyes i wouldn't even believe it. After cleaning the barn out we have more than enough parts to build one nice car and plan on doing gasser build with the leftovers, pending getting paperwork of course. Never thought I'd build a tri-5 because they are pretty darnd expensive so this was a blessing for sure
I like how Derek acts like all these cars just revived themselves after sitting for decades when he's finally driving them. Like he just added some fuel and a battery and rolled out. Great job sir, you're doing the Lord's work. Keep these rigs running

A feller just sat down in his recliner and turned on the Tube looking for somethin and what do ya know! I'll be dipped!
155 Minutes of the feller!
@@AuditingTheCorrupt I know! I don't believe it but I have to, cause I'm lookin right at it!
Derek one hell of a video. Beautiful job. Brings me right back to my teenage years. I had a 55 Ford Fairlane with a 272 cu in V8 with dual glass packs with overdrive and 3 speed on the column. Only down side is it was 6 volt 56 went to 12 volt. Great car to take to the Drive Inn movies back then. Plenty of room. Thanks for sharing another great Friday movie night. 👍🇺🇸. Artie
In 1957 my dad and mom had a 55 Chevy that was fast. I was brought home from the hospital in their 55 belair. Thanks for showing this repair.
Those old cars give me chills , I love just even touching one
You and Brian are wonderful people. The car is fantastic, glad to see another old car back on the road. I'm sure the family of our fallen service member will be grateful.
This right here is the best of humanity. Thank you so much.
This is the most enjoyable you tube show. Derek doesn't condemn you on car fixes. Love thus guy.
Wow! Those headlights and taillights coming on were just beautiful! The design/lines of those old cars...so much prettier than what we see on today's cars.
When I saw those head lights come on I thought Christine. While I was trying to post that he mentioned Christine.
Is there any 'design' in modern vehicles...?! They're all the same...!!!
I love how Derek always says "WE" through all his videos. Keeps the love in the community. Love you all!
are you my father? I am barry lok, investor, harvard college of monies, give me your house and your bitcoin because yoju are my father. i will als accept forex
And when referring to himself, he's just "a guy"
Derek being himself in classic fashion as he always is lol
My favorite model year of the old Chevy sedans! Thank you so much for your content, Derek! We all enjoy watching you work and breathing life into these ol' rigs.
A buddy in high school that had a sedan but I prefer the Hardtops myself. High from Orygun!!
My fave of the tri-fives. Almost my perfect color scheme. I'd want Jade Green and Ivory White but I like what it is.
😂5fç
Some guy in my home town (here in Finland) has one ('55 Bel Air) in beautiful black and chrome and I've always admired the car when passing through. He keeps it parked in front of the police station...
Love Derek’s narrative sense of humor, sure brings a twinkle to the eye of the true American dream! Derek for President 2024!!!
America needs VGG’d !!! Thank you vice Grip Garage my favorite family flick
I wish Derek got a dollar every time someone said this.
Now that's a candidate worth voting for
Unfortunately you have to choose between a demented old guy and a good president.
So glad you can work on some of these old cars that are in such good condition. You’ve spent so much time getting dangerous, barely together, nothing but rust cars **driving**. You earned the right to handle these for the world.
Your diligence and endurance got you here. I know what it’s like to work on those kinds of cars and I don’t know how you’re still sane after putting yourself through this much hard, testing work.
Thank you for everything you’ve done for us. We don’t deserve you.
The Rush album has taken this revival to another level.
Front pocket find😂
7th title on that album is Before and After. Very fitting for Derek, the Working Man!! haha
Yep I agree!
That sign above the garage door is just the right one for a VGG video.
Those wheels are worth every dollar. I didn´t know I needed a 55 on Cragars but well, now I know.🤣
Derek, you literally thought me how to have fun doing something I despise.
Thanks for all you do. (And the whole team too of course).
Here's hoping to shake your sasquash hand someday.😊😊
Thank You Derek, I’ve been along frm Early on & You are a Living Legend. Do Not Ever Sell Yourself Short Derek. There is a Special Place in Heaven for Folk’s Like You, Jessica & Them Excellent Boy’s of Yours. God Bless
I appreciate that!
It's so nice to watch great hearted people in action...! It really warms the heart...!!! With so much bad in today's world, I can't get enough of the good people and wish there were a lot more Derek's(Jessica and family too) in the world...!!! Keep up y'alls awesomeness...!!!
Thank you vgg. It's Saturday evening here in Ireland. What a better way to spend it. Than watching vgg and a couple of drinks. Thank you Derek. and stay safe buddy.
So nice to finally see the "Day with Derek episode" such a cool rig and story not mention the visit with the pervious owner. 100% respect Brian staying off camera for work or career related issues.
Makes me so curious though like why???
Derek, took me a while to watch this due to my OWN schedule. Fabulous build as always. But... Nearly in tears as you finish up with the owner of the car, and his choice of charity. You are an excellent person that I hope to meet some random day.
Honestly this is got to be one of your best revivals if not the best one ! I really enjoyed this one and it’s a dream car of mine and best part of all is the donation went to a fallen Vet ! Thank you for making this ❤
Derek brother, Vice Grip Garage just continues to get better! It makes a fella happy seeing you invest so much time into people and helping them bring their rigs back to life and on the road. Always looking forward to whats next!
If I had to take an educated guess he is probably a service member, probably a police officer of some sort and wants to remain private.
I thought the same thing about Brian's likely job. If so, many thanks as always for his service and awesome to see the rare '55 Bel Air got back on the road!
Noticed you never use starting fluid. Reason?
55's and 65's are my favorite flavors for the Belair! I owned a 65 back in around 85-86 and got to drive a 55 a couple of times. This was the best 2 1/2 of my day! Great episode!
My condolences to Brian’s friend’s family for their loss. No words can repair that…..been there.
Derek, you are a man among men.
God bless to both of you and to all three families.
Love and hugs all around from Colorado.
Again, God bless!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍
Watching from Nova Scotia Canada, one of my favorite utube channels. Derek is knowledgeable and funny. A good family man as well. Super show.
Wow, thanks!
A very rainy day here in the UK Derek and we absolutely loved watching this. What a lovely car a great job done for Brian. Thanks for sharing...Cheers for now!
Makes me happy to see a channel that interacts and gives back to his fans! Derek you’re a selfless man and I respect it
A 2.5 hour video!? Where does a guy find the time? What a treat for us 🍻
Thanks for watching
@@ViceGripGarageits my Friday night routine! 🤘
Great story, way to give back, way to be charitable. Your kindness won’t be forgotten when someone needs help.
Brian sure does live in a beautiful part of the country.
Oh ya full length film. Luv when Derek gives us these ones. Beautiful car to boot!!
woot, woot being with Derek on a Friday night is much better than hitting the club on a Friday night. Period!
Scew clubs. VGG is MY club.
"Woot, woot" and "Hit the club"...?! What language is that...?! And why are you talking about golf...?! Or is there another kind of club...?!?
You need new sparkalators...
Another great effort form you Derek fixed the car donated money even going over budget and more cheers buddy
You are a Great Man Derrick!I enjoyed every minute of this...Thank you
My older Brother owned one of these Same color's in the early 60's,May God rest his soul. I liked the car even when I was a little boy. Always hit the like before I watch.
Bless you brother. Memories man, memories.
Back in the 70's my brother was 16 working at a gas station...A guy came in with a 57 Chevy, it stalled and would not start. He sold it to my brother for 5 bucks and my brother pushed it 5 miles home to work on it!! But of course the car is long gone now.
1:00:39 you can see gas sludge and varnish.. but no ethanol corrosion . definitely gives evidence of having sat for 35 years.
My uncle bought the same car paint and all brand new the year I was born. I still remember riding in it when I was 4. What a great memory. Thank you!
That’s a really neat story!
Thanks to everybody for making this video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Rush Album Cover in the front seat. Must be a good
Think this is one of my favourite VGG videos out of them all, was half expecting Derek to say how much brian, him to say a number and Derek buying it from him haha would love to see this belair again once Brian's done the bits he wants to do to it
Omg 1:22:04 over my speaker gave me chills while I'm tinkering on my ole Ferd. I had to stop and play it 4 times😅
The first classic car I rode in was a 57 Belair. One of my customer's had one in his shed, and we started a conversation over it. Mid conversation he goes, hey you want to take a ride with me? I put my equipment down so fast. Something I won't forget as it happened the day before my wedding.
This is great content. I love seeing restorations, but to see a classic get back on the road is extra special.
Derek ... you're good people doing good things for good people. And that's as good as good gets.
First, it was Little Grip Garage, and now it's Vice Grip Garage. What a Friday.
Little Grip Garage...?!?
@@kurtisstutzman7056 There is two more channels
Vice Grip Lodge where Derek does stuff around his propert,y fixing old tractors and such
And Little Grip Garage where it's his son
@@BobTheMartin I know about Lodge, but I'm not into watching adolescent boys do anything...!
@@kurtisstutzman7056 well I'm not watching that either
I just know the channel exists
@@BobTheMartin I'd heard of the Lodge channel, but not little grip... I'd heard Derek call him that, but didn't know it was a channel... Thanks, have a great day...!
Hi Derek and guest nice video 📹 and workmanship love the Styles
Derek, I've got to say, after a long day like today fighting a simple brake job in the rain (I suppose you're not alone in not having no brakes), there's nothing better than putting the ole earth pounders up and watching any one of your videos. Whether it's here on the ole UA-cams or Roadworthy Rescues, a feller's content can make any day better.
Derek this was absolute car salvation gold! Really love the effort to track down the previous owner and getting his info on the car. Fantastic job!
Derek ,
I really wish a guy would have won this contest. I have a 1958 allis Chalmers HD8 dozer on my family's farm which would be a absolute joy to get back into running shale with ya . !
Derek, thanks for helping out Brian. Tell him I like his shop. I spent the whole time looking at his shelves to see what cool stuff he has.
What a great episode! Im happy for Brian, he has great taste in wheels. And the choice of music for this episode was off the chain!!! Stellar!!! Really put a great vibe to an already great episode.
Dereck, that mullet AKA Mississippi Mudflap of yours is looking magnificent!
That was so awesome to help that military family out! The show was awesome also Derek!
I appreciate the walking through testing process with explanations. No assumptions made. Let's just keep learning more together. Great for beginners and great reminders for the more experienced. Keep up the great work.
Very generously and nicely made road ready. The transmission and the rear axle need lube changing yet. Excellent video, Derek. Of course, Lou graciously provided a beautiful shop. Wow!
This was the BEST SHOW EVER!!! This was in my home town of Meriden, CT. It was nice to have Derek experience a familiar place for me. I live in AZ now and he made me miss it. Thank you Derek and I hope you enjoyed Castle Craig... Spent lots of time up there in my youth!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Dave Waller
party a whole bunch at Meriden Tower 1975-79 till the road got closed off. good job VGG
Great piece of work so well done. Good to see her back on the road. Cheers. Dave from down under, 😊😊
Very gratifying when the old girl cranks and runs on her own after 30 years 😊
This needs to be rewatched even if you're not watching... Hes doing the peoples work..
Such a beautiful car. Glad you got to get er goin again Derek !!
I like how Derek acts like all these cars just revived themselves after sitting for decades when he's finally driving them. Like he just added some fuel and a battery and rolled out. Great job sir, you're doing the Lord's work. Keep these rigs running
@@pmooney3454 I had the same thought. It’s remarkable how in the end he does make it look fun and easy.
Absolutely love these long revivals - better than most movies now a days.
god bless derek and family from hay bay ontario canada
Like most on here i really enjoy these longer formats i know its not always practical but its definitely necessary frequently lol . Its at movie length an more enjoyable than most films these days . Thanks Derek an family.
