@@sara_khong For 800 gm fish, 10 mins. is more than adequate b/c you know even after steaming, the fish is still cooking in residual heat. Also, I prefer the traditional method of heating up oil in a wok vs microwave to pour over the fish in the end, as in flash fry. I think it incorporates the flavors better. Lastly, I would add more soy sauce and less table salt.

Why the sensitivity over the “fishy smell”? If fish is really fresh (can’t make it out in video), there shouldn't be any, even minus the dressings. Suggest your mom’s kitchen for next & subsequent cooking as the lighting’s better and not cramped.
Hello! Your question made me realise that some people are more sensitive to 'fishy smell'. MIL lived in an island for some years where she ate fish caught on the same day. My cousin, a Japanese, does not eat fish in Malaysia even if its the freshest that we can get for her. I think perhaps that's why they notice things that I wouldn't. For Japanese, perhaps also the fishing method is different i.e ike jime. Hence what Malaysian like me think is fresh, is not fresh in some people's eyes? Can't go home now unfortunately due the lockdown. But yes, planning to go back and make more food with Mom. I miss my kitchen and garden!

@@sara_khong I live on the Isle of Wight (far south of UK, its an island) the closet asian supermarket is in london but to order anything i have to order from Manchester which is roughly about 300 miles away, the postage cost is expensive! I dont travel much and rarely go to london, so when i want to cook any malaysian food I have to order them online and wait 5-10 before I get them. I soooo miss Malaysian food! Cant wait to see your mum laughing while reading my message, shes made my day, please thank her for me..

You didn't mention how long you cook it for, your fish I would cook it for about 15min over a strong flame. I don't like my fish too cooked.

I steam fish for 10 mins and no more than 12. It is cooked and moist inside.
