We got such an interesting origin story movie for Dr. Strange with this one. At times, it feels like an Iron Man of the mystic arts - started cocky, got humbled down and in the end he choose to do the right thing. Benedict Cumberbatch is such an exceptional choice to play the role, he captures the audiences' hearts and minds with his sarcasm, his brilliant mind and that good character hiding underneath all his flaws. Christine has been such a supportive friend throughout the movie, always going to bat for Stephen. Their chemistry was on point from start to finish. Master Kaelicious, portrayed by the one and only Mads Mikkelsen, made for an intriguing villain who turned out to be right in the end, at least about The Ancient One, how hypocritical everything he taught them was. Speaking about our favourite bald teacher - Stephen characterized her the best, she was a complicated person but ultimately she wanted what's best for everyone, even if she went the wrong way about it. Her final dialogue with Stephen was both incredibly beautiful and heartbreaking - nobody is really ready to die, no matter how long they lived. Wong cracks you up with his poker face, that single instance where he laughs his ass off and the unique way in which he kept threatening/teaching Stephen. Master Mordo had quite the character arc in this movie - starting as this faithful believer in the teachings of the Ancient One and ending as someone completely disillusioned with Kamar Taj and every teaching there. It's been a pleasure to see Stephen gradually accept the rather "nonsensical" nature of magic but at the same time learning it in his own way, with the help of his impressive mind. If "Thor" gave us a first look at just how visually stunning the MCU is and "Ant-Man" took it a step further with their Quantum Realm, this movie just blows our minds with the dimensional shenanigans we witness. That little nod towards the Infinity Stones was the perfect connection to the rest of the MCU, along with the mention of Rhodey's spine injury and the post credits scene with Thor. Thank you for the entertaining reaction, commentary and discussion at the end, you did a great job ❤
At the beginning of the film, Strange undertakes the operation of a certain Rhodey, the face is not visible, but it can be assumed that Strange is operating on a "War Machine" who was accidentally shot by Vision, aiming at the Falcon in ★The Captain America: Civil War.★ Perhaps for the first time, Cumberbatch channels his presence and cheerful charm into a superbly complex character, cementing an iconic role. So while the film is psychedelic action, the actor pushes and deepens each scene. Scott Derrickson leads with a brash sense of style, adding fun and lots of kaleidoscopic flashes to the trippy effects. Each scene is a visual feast, and the fast pace of the story never allows the characters to take themselves too seriously. Running gags abound as Derrickson encourages his excellent cast to find small character details that subtly create personality and humor in unexpected ways. The script seems to pass by Stephen's dark emotional trauma, so Cumberbatch must use shorthand to convey the emotions of a man whose entire personality has always stemmed from his once deft fingers. Everything happened to him at a lightning pace, gliding over eye-catching and mind-blowing surfaces, only glimpsing the raw meaning hidden beneath them. But the resonance is just enough to ground the film in real feelings, as it takes the audience on a wild ride. It also gives the universe MARVEL some colorful new energy.💫💫💫 Thank you for your reaction and discussion. It was fascinating!💛🦊❤
@Alex_Lottus No, but close: Rhodey was one of the cases that Dr. Strange turned down when driving right before he went over the cliff. "I've got a 35 year old air force colonel. Crushed his lower spine in some sort of experimental armor: Mid-thoracic burst fracture." Strange's response: "Yeah, well, I could help, but so could 50 other people. Find me something worth my time."
If you haven't seen it already put the Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch on your must-watch list. That's the show that introduced me to him before he was cast as Doctor Strange so based on that show I already knew he was going to kill this role lol.
*You two would love one of my favorite stories, “The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe”. It has Tilda Swinton (the Ancient One), along with a familiar mutant, as well as a jedi.*
My favorite easter egg in this movie is the Pink Floyd connection: In the movie, during the scene where he is speeding and gets in the wreck, the song "Interstellar Overdrive" from the first Pink Floyd album is playing. Doctor Strange appears, somewhat hidden, on the cover art for their 2nd album, "A Saucerful of Secrets" Also, another Floyd song, "Cymbaline", includes the line "Doctor Strange is always changing size"
*Fun Fact: While filming in New York, Benedict Cumberbatch went into a comic book store in full costume as Doctor Strange!* 🤓 ua-cam.com/users/shortsp3z9MSUTuP8?si=EJVQL1TVNjneu9Yi ua-cam.com/video/PVXEyqlNDDI/v-deo.htmlsi=BpusQ2_dO01skQT9
*Fun Fact: The location of the New York sanctum is on Bleecker St., the same street where Peter Parker worked as a pizza delivery boy in Spider-Man 2.*
8:45 "How tall is he?!?" At 6'0" (183 cm), Benedict Cumberbatch is tall, but not crazy tall. However, here he's in Nepal where the average height is a mere 5'2" (157 cm) -- 5'4" for men and 5'0" for women.
There's a few things they changed for this movie like Mordo was originally an arch enemy and the Acient One was originally an old man. Still, this movie was fun. There's actually a deleted scene that shows Strange making a cast for a dog with a broken leg, which convinces Mordo there's still good in him. Plus I love how Strange beats Dormammu: basically get him to rage quit.
Magy I've been waiting for this reaction since I started following you, finally that day has arrived! This Marvel movie along with the first Iron Man are my absolute favorites, I love Magic and when I saw the whole movie I fell in love with the characters, the various locations, all the CGI scenes, it's crazy! For the rest, fantastic reaction, beautiful and very sweet as always! Keep it up!, I can't wait to see the rest of the MCU!
22:45 - The cloak chose Strange because he was protecting the New York Sanctum. End scene - Stealing power is wrong. But is stealing power from an evil creature (Doramamu) wrong? I think not, if it helps you to fight evil.
A curious fact is that, in the car accident scene, the operation that Strange gets offered over the phone for a soldier with a damaged spine, is actually to operate on Rhodes after his injuries in Civil War.
Hey ladies. You are fun to watch. And aesthetically pleasing to watch too, lol. I'm glad you are enjoying a lot of Marvel movies like a lot of other people do too. There was a bit of social drama in the United States when this film's cast was announced. The Ancient One was illustrated as an old Asian man in the comic book representation of the Dr. Strange character franchise. A lot of people felt that Marvel Studios "white-washed" the actor list for whatever their reasons were. Stop this reaction at 13:31 where Dr. Strange is spinning slowly in space during his acid trip through the multiverse in front of a background that makes it looks like a crazy comic book cover. That actually is a real life comic book cover, lol. They love to slip those references in, and it shows how much of a bunch of comic nerds the people at Marvel are, go figure (lol).
Dr. Strange is my fourth favorite Marvel comic book character. My top 10 favorite Marvel comic book characters are 1. Deadpool/Wade Wilson 2. Wolverine/Logan/James Howlett 3. Daredevil/Matt Murdock 4. Dr. Strange/Dr. Stephen Strange 5. The Punisher/Frank Castle 6. Iron Man/Tony Stark 7. Blade/Eric Brooks 8. Spider-Man/Miles Morales 9. Captain America/Steve Rogers 10. Black Panther/Prince T'Challa

The visuals in this movie is chefs kiss. Doctor Strange is without a doubt top tier on the power level. Seeing this in 3D was a madness to say the least
Full name Stephen Vincent Strange, because Stan Lee created him on 1963 after the late horror actor Vincent Price. And no one like Benedict Cumberbatch to bring him life onscreen. Perfect as Hell in every sense of the character. Including an ego bigger than the multiverse.🤣
whoever decided to change The Ancient One to a woman and have her hold his hand in the moment of passing was brilliant. It's little things that are grounded in reality that make superhero movies worth watching.
I dont remember details but it was said that Strange was bargaining with Dormamu for a long time. Something like thousand or milion years but as i said i dont remember what it was anymore. 8 years later and im still waiting for them to follow up on Pangborn post credit scene. Multiverse of Madness went in a different way than was originally expected but i will leave that one to you to decide if you like it or not. Apparently a lot of people did not.
After a few years the intro to the videos can get stuck in your head like an Nsync song. No shade intended. That's a lie. Shade definitely intended. *Shade intended bc I couldn't get Bye Bye Bye out of my damn head. lol
Where the soul departs the body, I'm sorry for Benedict Cumberbatch, let's make this abundantly clear - Benedict cannot do an American accent to save himself.
RIP Doctor Strange in Deadpool/Wolverine as mentioned. Nice reaction. Steven is awesome, I like his origin story, he's as arrogant as Tony Stark but in the medical field. Benedict Cumberbatch is Dormammu and played a dragon lol. Can't wait for your reaction to the sequel. I suggest Captain America with Matt Salinger as Steve Rogers.
As amazing as Tilda Swinton was as The Ancient One, the character should’ve been played by someone of Asian descent. Even Kevin Feige said a couple years ago that they should’ve done that. But at the time every major film studio was pandering like hell to the Chinese government to get their films to be shown there because China has one of the biggest box offices in the world. And as much the “People’s Republic of China” doesn’t like LGBT characters being portrayed on screen, they hate Tibet even more, and The Ancient One in the comics is Tibetan. Thankfully nowadays Disney is loosening their restrictions on their movies because they realized that by pandering too much to the Chinese government they alienated a massive amount of their audience
Awesome reaction from you both as always Magy can you start using that wheel behind you in your streams whenever you have time please keep up the good work.
Fun fact! The patient that Strange is looking into when he gets in the car crash was Rhodey! For his spine injury. Also Strange was ONE of the names Hydra was trying to get rid of in Winter Solider

Outside of Harry Potter, this is my absolute favorite use of magic in all of fiction.
