It is really nice to watch you and your dad.
I am from Germany and I love old US steel.
    We have a M880 Dodge Pickup, 1978 Mercury XR7 and a 1965 Imperial.
It good to see that you repair things instead of changing every part.

Emily is very lucky. Most young men can't tell the difference between ratchets, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 in drives, basic math sockets, SAE/Metric, pliers, or what torque means, etc, and the use of any hand tools. Great inspirational video with your Dad - the master mechanic.

Greetings from Greece, this car is really huge for our standards (and space) here in Europe, but has a clean design and the motor sounds healthy. I really like how you show the repair procedure of every part and give tips. I personally do not like the rusted surfaces but paintjob is expensive sport and I understand.
The wheels are awesome though! Keep up the great work, looking forward for the sequel episodes of this car.

I get why you don't like the rusted body panels and all, but over here I think people have grown accustomed to the look of these old cars that have rusted in a desert for so long and think it looks pretty cool really. It gives a car extra character because no two cars will rust the same.

I just found your channel today and I have learned a lot about drums by watching you go through them on a few videos now. I recently bought a 1967 four door post impala, and it's complete with it's orignal 396, also not missing a single piece of trim or anything. Unfortunately it was parked for about 35 years. Thank you for your sharing your experience and know how! I am no mechanic but I've now rebuilt these brakes to the point where they are working fantastic. I definitely have the confidence to takle anything this care throws at me now. Thank you so much!

A note on copper crush washers and reusing them- In the aviation industry, they are commonplace, and to really freshen them up, hang them on a piece of baling wire and heat them cherry red with a torch, then dunk them in water til cool. This anneals the copper to new softness, allowing them to seal better. Old copper crush washers become age-hardened and tend to not seal well. Of course, you can’t do this with rubber-lined crush washers. Keep up the great content!

You might be able to get the heater core rebuilt. The housing it fits in also holds the AC evaporator core. Take apart from inside the car. There is a rubber hose with a wave kink toward its bottom that is made to let condensation drip down onto the pavement. That part is on the front half of the housing. Make sure that hose is not stopped up with dirt and/or leaves etc. When you put the housing back together be sure to use some caulk along the bottom edge and up at least 1/2 way up the sides of the mating surfaces. Otherwise you may have leaks of condensation down onto the carpet and floor. I fought that problem on a '73 New Yorker I owned years ago.

Warning, danger, Will Robinson. On that front corner where you omitted the brake adjuster cable..... You put the drum on with no bottom spring! You can get by without the cable, as you said. But NOT without a SPRING on the bottom!
Certain Chrysler Plymouth models with Extra Heavy duty 11 inch drum brakes, 11x3 front came without self adjustment as late as 1969. For example, a few C bodies like yours with Trailer Towing brakes or police brakes. And the Plymouth 69 GTX with Trac Pac.
What they show is the same basic system but with a single heavy spring going from the bottom of one shoe to the bottom of the other. The spring rubs in the top of the star wheel, in effect keeping it from rotating by itself and giving a resistance when it is adjusted from a brake spoon in the little slots in the the backing plate.
If you can not find the adjuster cable for your car, try to find the spring for one of the heavy duty brake cars.
You may even be able to just use the spring you have.
I don't think you'll get far with that brake as it is. The adjuster may drop down and the bottom edges of the friction surface may drag.

My Granddad ordered a triple avocado green '69 Imperial. In dash 8-track, 426 Hemi under the hood.
He gave it to my dad when we moved to here to AZ in '76. He took that car down to Earl Scheib where at the time, he'd "paint any car, any color for $89.95" and he had him spray it white including white paint on that vinyl hardtop to embark on what became a successful real estate career.
I saw Grandad's old car sitting in an auction yard I'm quite sure it's the same car because you could kind of see the green paint coming in through the bottom of the white. Decided I had to bid on it and then I forgot to go to the auction. She's still alive here somewhere. I seriously doubt that 426 is still under the hood.

I had forgotten that the Chrysler Newport came with front drum brakes standard and disk brakes were an option. The installation of the rear break springs does not look right. It's so cool you can just pull a 50 year old car out of a yard, throw some parts at it and have it running and driving again. Yep, we are living through the end of an era, the changing of time like the end of horse and buggy days. Society is changing, EV's are being forced upon us. The cost of transportation is exploding, which will cause everything to increase. Change is not always better.

I really enjoyed the red-painted wheel rims; that touch gives it a real vintage vibe. I like plain, ol’ black walls, myself. However, your car can wear any kind of tire it wants to, lol. It looks good dressed any way you like it. I’d wanna drive it and take all that bowling stuff to the local lanes and use it, too. I hope the owner enjoyed his time with the car.
