If your fluke is bent or have kinks in it, warm it in a pot of fairly hot water. It comes out perfect most of the time. If it doesn't, warm it again in a bit warmer water. Never throw away bent soft plastics. Stunning channel though, Matt with a very informative video. We are starting to cat h huge fish here in South Africa now. Tight lines, brothers.
I have been using the StrikeKing caffine shad recently and caught some nice fish. They sink faster than zoom fluke and Yamamoto Dshad. If I wanna fish even faster I would use a Gamakatsu weighted EWG 1/16. The weight on it is so well balanced and make all these brands' fluke shimmy sink like a senko
Idk why...but a huge smile came on my face and you blew my mind when you pulled up 2 fish on that donkey rig. Its logical that its happen if you have 2 hooks...but seeing happen it just made my day.
PLEASE try the 6th Sense Flush. The Zoom Super Fluke has been my confidence lure for years but now I'm unbelievably impressed by the Flush. Better packaging (all tails are straight), better action, etc. I can't believe that more people aren't using it.
The donkey rig worked as advertised. I even got a double. I modified the rig by adding a plastic bead above the main line swivel to keep the other swivel from rubbing against the knot. I used a clear bead from the sowing store that also has some extra glitter. Thanks
@@CAPS_AMERICA sorry I should have said lure. I do still use bait but only when I am planning on keeping the fish for dinner. Squid, mussels, and shrimp will catch fish. I also use the smaller sized fluke on a drop shot when I’m bay fishing for sand bass and halibut.
i've learned from various you tube anglers, but you guys are my go to!! thanks for always being thorough. learned a lot on this video and will try what you have taught.
Love your channel. Been picking up tips all the time from you and Tim. Regarding Zoom super flukes with bent tails, try dipping them in boiling water for a couple of seconds. It will save you a few bucks.
Excellent show your presentation was perfect your bait was irresistible yes I'm hooked on fluke fishing. That screw thing up in the nose of the minnow has got me fever to start throwing the fluke again
Ahhh the all kinked up 1s still move like an injured baitfish I've caught fish on em😅🤷♂️ I lay em on the boat for a few hours in the heat, then they straighten if not i rig the hook down a lil further! Baits are too pricey to waste. #304Lures makes a nasty shad, its almost like the caffeine shad but has a bubble tail. Blue glimmer!
Great video. Fluke fishing is one of my favorite ways to fish. This year I started fishing my flukes almost exclusively nose rigged. I use a #2 Owner weedless Jungle Wacky hook, Med CPS spring and Caffeine shad. I will pair that with a 6'8" Mojo Spinning rod, lews reel and 15 lbs. braid to 12 lbs. Fluro leader. This is what I have been using for my wacky setup so I can switch on the fly as a co-angler during tournaments between the 2 baits. I really like to let the bait shimmy to the bottom in grass and then give little pops. caught a 5 and broke off an 8 on Chickamauga back in July doing this. I will sometimes take a 1/32 or 1/16th tungsten nail weight and place it in the middle of the body to get a quicker fall in deep water or around bluff walls and the bass will destroy it.
I sometimes will boil my Zoom Super Flukes for about 3 to 5 minutes to get that snakey fluidness you mentioned getting from the Whiplash Shad. Works great! Especially for rigging it on the Core Hover Rig...
Even better in saltwater ! I've caught about 18 species on this bait. Love it in Florida waters. You hit everything right on the head. The tandom rig on bunched up trout was just crazy. Zooms have the perfect buoyancy to them also. Lead tape was very hany, the lighter the better. I have $20000 in soft plastics but really give me a good worm and a Super Fluke for bas,, and I'm cool. Great video.
Thanks Matt, fluke fishing is one of my all time favorite. Just received my 1st bag of the whiplash, smoke pearl laminate. It's quite a bit longer than the fluke, can't wait to see how these big spots take to it.
You guys should check out the deps sakamata Shad. They have 4 inch up to 8 inch. They have some with heavy salt so you can keep the bait down. It has really nice action. I have crushed them on the little 4” size this summer.
If you take a weightless Whiplash Shad and either sweep your rod tip or burn it in with the reel handle, the beat has a crazy tight swim and vibration that you can actually feel something in the water like a chatterbait
Matt, I really love the D Shad, especially fishing it nose weighted with a 1/32 oz nail weight on either a hover rig hook or neko rigged as Tim recommended a year ago - I kill them on this setup 😉
Ive been husing swimbait hooks with the screwlock on them. Makes yer flukes last longer and the action almost identical. Throw on one with a keel weight if its a little windy or if youre in current
I use zoom flukes as a spinnerbait trailer aswell.Truely an amazing universal plastic bait👌Thanks again for the tips and great videos.New to jerkbaits.Wish I had more time to fish.Following from Toronto,Canada.✌️❤️Tight Lines Everyone!!!💪
Nice. Don't sleep on a 3" Bass Assassin on a 1/0 EWG when everybody's throwing standard sized flukes. I've caught an illegal amount of 3 - 5lbers on it.
Matt you failed to mention the boil trick. There is absolutely no reason to throw away a bent up fluke. I just keep them in the package until I have a few packs that have all bent up flukes. Take 15 minutes boil some water and fix them. I understand you not needing to do that, but you shouldn’t have left out the fact that you CAN fix them
Matt, Do you ever use the magnum super fluke? And have you ever tried the 8 inch Deps Sakamata ? You can also get it in a heavy weight that is designed to sink more than a standard fluke.
I grew up using a Slug-O and they work great too. But after watching your Chatterbait video from several months back (maybe last year) and watching the underwater video of the Spunk Shad, I've always wondered if that alone would make a good soft jerkbait because of the action when you "pop" it. Love the videos and all the info!
I enjoy watching your videos, but not sure i agree with throwing out the Flukes, because of kinked up tails. Especially, with the cost of baits today! Just boil a pot of water and drop them in for a few minutes and BAM...good as new. Never had an issue doing this and they hold their shape.
My friend went to America recently and has picked me up 6 packs of the super fluke's jrs. Trying to get a good softplastic jerkbait in Europe is nearly impossible, its like a method thats not talked about over here, except on hard baits. I can't wait to receive them. The closest we have that I am aware of is the Z-Man Jerk Shadz, which I never see anyone talk about.
i put a 1/16th ounce with a bobberstopper on it to make the zoom fluke sink a lil faster because i’ve always had the best luck on the zoom flukes so i don’t just go buy a caffeine shad and i’ve caught a bunch of nice ones like that especially when it’s a lil windy and the traditional weightless is hard to throw
Great video. Another way to keep donkey rig baites separate is to use different leader lines, then you can use your favorite hook in both. I use 12 # mono for the "back" and 10 or 12 # floro on the "front". The mono is more bouyant and will stay up in the water column while the foro sinks more quickly. Also the gamakatsu G locks have a much higher percentage of fish landed to bite ratio than the ewg hooks from my experience. Try them in a 4/0 or 3/0 texas rigged fluke and you will be amazed! G locks are awesome for other soft plastics too, especially beaver and craw types. And thats all the "secrets" I am gonna reveal now 😜😂
You can straighten out a curled fluke. Don't throw em away. Lay them flat on the back and heat them up just a lil bit. Hair dryer on high works. Heat gun. Torch (very carefully) kinked and curled baits aren't junk. If nothing else use it as a drop shot bait or a trailer for spinnerbaits or chatterbaits.
I've been wanting to try the Banjo Minnow rig on a Fluke, and if I'm not mistaken, there are little coils that are made that we can screw into the nose of the Fluke and then run the hook through the coil. Are you familiar with this product or technique??
Ever give the Fish Snax Albie Snax a try? Its made for saltwater but when you're only working it on top they're nice. Cast much further than flukes. They don't do much on the fall but when a fish pops a ways away you can reach them.
At least your not talkin about Karashi's in this video Matt. 😂 One thing about flukes I think guys overlook which has been deadly for me, is using a heavy fluke like a Caffeine Shad or the like (Megabass with alot of salt etc) and dead stick em through bait balls. You spoke of donkey riggin. I like to not only use 2 separate baits say a Zoom and a Caffeine Shad for sink rate differences, but put a superline hook in the Caffeine Shad and a lighter hook in the Zoom and move tje hook back as you were just saying. That way Im fishing two levels, one almost topwater and one a foot or two down. Obviously the deeper style can be used for both if they seem to be keying on that bait each cast. Hope Im not sayin everything you cover but Im at 6 min in and in bed about to close my eyes...lol. Wanted to put that here if it could help someone.
Been fishing the donkey rig in the CA Delta and when they're in the eatin' mood, it's great to get a double hookup. And btw, thanx for pronouncing GamaKatsu... hurts my ears when I hear GamaGatsu... Flukes that are kinked in the package, I put the tail end in hot water for about 15 seconds or more and it straightens back out with no issues. Once the fluke cooled down, I packaged them better and had no problem.
Idk why I struggle getting a super fluke properly aligned on an EWG hook, but mine always end up spinning when I twitch it. Maybe it's my line, maybe it's how hard I twitch it, maybe it's the rigging. But no matter what, it spins instead of flicking, twitching, and popping correctly.
Instead of tossing the kinked flukes just put them in boiling water for a few seconds then pull them out straightin them and let it cool down, wow now ur fluke is good as new
Thanks Matt! Tactical Bassin videos make going to work Monday morning a little more bearable. I caught a 6.3 pound largemouth on the Bully Wa frog yesterday morning! I got a few more since TW has them on sale. I was using the TW bluegill color and it’s absolutely beautiful!
Matt, I have an Expride B 6"10" Medium for hard plastic jerkbait applications. Any particular reason you wouldn't use it for soft plastic jerking? Is it just too slow to get the larger hooks to hookup?
You should have no problem with that rod .I throw the super fluke on a bps 7ft 6in inshore extreme rod (medium action)with 8lb floro and 3/0 screwlock in clear water and have no problems hooking and keeping them pinned
Top 4 soft jerks for me.. Googan Dart, Zoom 5 & 7" fluke, Yamamoto D Shad, & Strike King caffeine shad...soft jerks caught most of my 4 lb. this year...great baits
I noticed you hold your reel like I do. I kept noticing how much my pinker finger hurt after setting hooks all day. Then I went to catch something I dropped and it tore the tendon from the top of it. Now that it’s healed it really hurts after setting hooks. Not that setting hooks is a bad thing, but I think it’s time to adjust my grip. Just sucks or is impossible depending on the rod. Ohh well, first world problems.

great information on fluke....wish you had better closeups to see for hookup..thanx
It looked like, in the early part of the video, you were casting the fluke with a lot more line between the fluke and the rod tip. Did I see right?
At least your not talkin about Karashi's in this video Matt. 😂
One thing about flukes I think guys overlook which has been deadly for me, is using a heavy fluke like a Caffeine Shad or the like (Megabass with alot of salt etc) and dead stick em through bait balls. Letting it drop out of the bottom of a bait ball always seems to bring good quality fish.

Where does the spring come in for the donkey rig??
Which one of these rigging would you use say at the reservoir at the dam near or in rocks with less than clear water?
Given the stained water and potential for snags. I'd go the Texas rigged route with the wide gap hook.
I need one of them soft cases for my plastics.
When I kayak fish the kelp beds for calicos I always toss a flook on a dart head.. it just works for me
im in florida would a magnum fluke work as a 4x4 glidebait? essentially or am i off on that
Random question if anyone knows on a glass rod can you use braid to leader for chatterbaits as an example or is straight floro better?
Idk why I struggle getting a super fluke properly aligned on an EWG hook, but mine always end up spinning when I twitch it. Maybe it's my line, maybe it's how hard I twitch it, maybe it's the rigging. But no matter what, it spins instead of flicking, twitching, and popping correctly.
