      @@LAJ-47FC9 The show is a terrible mix of TNG and TOS.
      Captain Kirk was bold, he’d see wrongs and try to right them. Go against the prime directive when it was woke, ridiculous or stupid. Pike looks bold but acts wimpy! He’s written to be indecisive…waiting for others to make decisions. S1E06 About the young boy being sacrificed for the “good” of the planet was nothing more than ignorant natives throwing the young virgin in the volcano to appease the false “gods”. That’s exactly what Captain Kirk fought against. Captain Pike just let it continue. Very UnStarTrek.

    One thing I like about this intro better than the first season is that the ship is actively moving a lot more instead of sitting still like "Okay, suggestions on how to move forward?"

  • @zeph0shade
    @zeph0shade Рік тому +3

    The first season intro had me already. I had a sense going into Discovery and Picard that I wasn't going to love them because the intros set the tone for something edgy and brooding. Like Game Of Thrones in space. Or Batman.
    Both things that were good in their own right, but were not Star Trek. Star Trek trying to be them: also not Star Trek.
    I've seen/heard the takes both for and against Strange New Worlds, but as someone who grew up with the TMP movies my dad owned in a VHS collection, and some TNG... I love it SO much.
    Star Trek is hope for a better future. I don't care how many people disagree, that is what it is to me. It's a way for some of us to indulge in a fantasy where the future isn't dystopian, where humanity isn't just a galactic plague, and where it turns out that not all aliens want to kill us, or even have any reason to.
    Strange New Worlds embodies these things where Discovery and Picard largely haven't. They've tried to talk about issues close to home for us, by depicting them as *still being issues for people in the future*. That is not Star Trek. Call it pretentious. Call it preachy. If you can't handle a science fiction show, set in the distant future, trying to demonstrate what humanity *could* do... Then you're probably a half-decent example of what it shouldn't.
    I'm kind of drunk right now and I'm pretty sure I started writing this comment with different intentions than the way I ended it. Either way I'm heated now, so go inhale some table salt and thanks for reading.

    • @ScifinewsDE
      @ScifinewsDE  Рік тому +2

      thanks for your feedback. None of those "filmmakers" pay any more attention to the correct use of 24 frames per second and the associated strict corset of image composition. Apart from a few exceptions. SNW is unfortunately no different than most other productions: in terms of image design, it is not suitable for 24fps. Anyone who watches the series on the big screen and is subject to complete immersion due to the distance between the seats will immediately see a lot of judder, uneven use of digital motion blur, etc. due to the inappropriate image design. Especially in the CGI sequences, the motion blur shown does not match the object movement. This is often used to hide weak render quality... (we don't do it differently in our CGI intro to the video review^^) Also the movement speeds don't fit. In the SNW intro it is especially present at the point where in the wide angle shot the Enterprise flies across the picture. Sit in front of your TV with a distance so that you can't see the edges of the TV when you look straight ahead, so about 40-60cm in front of a 50" TV. This would be equal to the "cinema experience" where the screen is so big that you are sitting "in the middle of the action". Compare that with the aerial shots from "Collateral", one of the last movies that really got the 24fps aspect right. And after all, the 24p standard was just a compromise to save costs at that time. Now, of course, not everyone watches on a 4 meter wide screen and what I personally see as a big problem, is not noticeable at all, because TV or display sizes are much smaller or the seating distance is different. I for one, with an optimized home theater experience, see these discrepancies very clearly and therefore have for almost all newer productions and films the interframe calculation active to compensate for an exhausting viewing experience. For a few newer productions, you can turn it off (hello Zack Snyder) because the production has placed value on the correct use of the frame rate. SNW has not. 😜

    This iteration is far better than Startrek: Discovery and the casting is a bit more tolerable gang. However, despite enjoying the episode format, I cannot see we are seeing a development of a consistent story among all the episodes. Instead, in Season 2 we follow one and one actor as the main focus in each episode. We witness Spock turning more into a human and kiss Jess Bush like in a teenage drama and I find the story development moving all over the place. I though we were to see more about these "Gorn" we have been told so much about and temporal warriors. Instead we end up in a polished Star Trek with good CGI and okay actors, but scripting is a bit poor now. What we would like to see is Season 2 moving towards some conclusion. Even Star Trek Discovery or terrible acronym STD managed to do that.

    Alle Filmemacher orientieren sich an der konditionierten Sehgewohnheit eines Jahrhunderts mit einer bestimmten Bewegungsunschärfe und Look. Es ist mir wirklich absolut unbegreiflich, wie Daniel die Interpolierung des Materials als schön erachtet. Es sieht einfach, jemand hat es bereits geschrieben, wie ein billiger Soap Opera Look aus. Das moderne CGI (Was ich schon im Original als "naja" erachte) sieht dadurch noch billiger aus. Immerhin kaschiert die Original Framerate so manchen Computerffekt, aber so sieht das alles wie ein Computerspiel aus. Ich will jetzt Daniel nicht kritisieren, denn er kann als schön empfinden, was er möchte. Das Thema wurde ja bereits schon so oft in den Kommentaren erwähnt, aber es ist für mich wirklich absolut unbegreiflich, was Daniel daran gefällt und warum er alles immer umrechnet. Vor 20 Jahren, als wir noch alle jung waren, wollten wir eben diesen Look absolut vermeiden. Also ich weiß nicht, ob ich einfach zu engstirnig bin, oder ob Daniel verdammt mutig ist. Es darf ihm natürlich absolut gefallen. Ich kann das aber einfach nicht greifen, denn ich finde es absolut furchtbar. Jetzt würde mich eigentlich nur interessieren, wie Jens das Ganze sieht und ob er auch die Folgen, wie Daniel schaut? Man kann das Ganze in der Regel am TV einstellen und die Bilder dazwischen berechnen lassen.

      Hallo Paul, danke für dein Feedback. Ich hier nur das entgegnen, was ich schon beim letzten mal schrieb: Keine Sau derer, die du als "Filmemacher" bezeichnest, achtet mehr auf korrekte Verwendung der 24 Bilder pro Sekunde und den damit verbundenem strengen Korsett der Bildgestaltung. Von wenigen Ausnahmen mal abgesehen. SNW ist da leider auch nicht anders wie die meisten anderen Produktionen: von der Bildgestaltung her nicht für 24fps geeignet. Wer die Serie auf der großen Leinwand anschaut und dort auch Aufgrund des Sitzabstands einer vollständigen Immersion unterliegt, sieht aufgrund der unpassenden Bildgestaltung sofort ein starkes Ruckeln, ungleichmäßige Verwendung von digitaler Bewegungsunschärfe uvm. Gerade in den CGI-Sequenzen passt die dargestellte Bewegungsunschärfe nicht zur Objektbewegung. Wird gern verwendet, um schwache Render-Qualität zu kaschieren... (machen wir in unserem CGI Intro zum Video Review auch nicht anders^^) Auch die Bewegungsgeschwindigkeiten passen nicht. Im SNW Intro z.B. besonders präsent an der Stelle wo in der Weitwinkelaufnahme die Enterprise klein quer durchs Bild fliegt. Setz dich mal vor deinen Fernseher mit einem Abstand, so dass du beim geradeaus schauen die Ränder vom TV nicht mehr siehst, also ca. 40-60cm vor einen 50" TV. Das wäre dann gleichzusetzen mit dem "Kinoerlebnis" wo die Leinwand so groß ist, dass man eben "mittendrin" sitzt. Vergleiche das dann mal mit den Luftaufnahmen aus "Collateral", einem der letzten Filme die das Thema Bildgestaltung für 24fps richtig gut hinbekommen hat. Und letztendlich ist der 24p Standard ja auch nur ein Kompromiss gewesen, um damals Kosten zu sparen. Nun schaut natürlich nicht jeder auf ner 4 Meter Leinwand und das was ich darauf als großes Problem sehe fällt überhaupt nicht auf, weil TV- oder Displaygrößen viel kleiner sind oder der Sitzabstand anders. Ich für meinen Teil, mit einem optimierten Heimkino-Erlebnis, sehe diese Diskrepanzen halt sehr deutlich und habe daher für fast alle neueren Produktionen und Filme die Zwischenbildberechnung aktiv, um ein anstrengendes Seh-Erlebnis zu kompensieren. Bei wenigen Produktionen neuerer Machart kann man das Abschalten (Hallo Zack Snyder) weil die Produktion wert auf korrekten Einsatz der Bildrate gelegt hat. Ergo: Ich kompensiere dies hier auf UA-cam, damit es zu meinen Sehgewohnheiten passt :P ;-)

    Is this genuinely the CGI quality? I ask as a non-watcher but that CGI is worse than DS9s 20 years ago (even after DS9 went full CGI for fleet fights)

      Yeah.... They might call that the style of the show but I get what you mean. DS9 CGI was way cleaner

      @@ScifinewsDE Phew, glad it wasn't just me. It looks very video gamey. DS9s felt...realer? (not sure realer is a word lol)

      Ds9 Cgi had the premise to replicate the old school model shots and combine this with the freedom of computer generated graphics. This, of course, is extremely time consuming since you truly have to replicate an established look and feel. And since the templates were real models with real lighting the result had to adhere to these rules. Modern 'bullshit' CGI just throws a bunch of 3d models in an arbitrary 3d space and let's particles and cameras spin. And that's why it looks 'unreal'. Because it is and it is not even trying to emulate real physics, lighting or plausible movement. Take "the expanse" for comparison - there you have realistic fake space. And it shows

      @@ScifinewsDE Thanks for the explanation, brilliant thanks. I adored the Expanse such an amazing show in story, characters and CGI but most the story. #Avasarala fanboi here :)

    As much as i like the show, i'm still not a fan of this intro. The CGI looks more like a videogame than a TV series, its too fake.
    I suppose its what happens when you use CGI instead of a real physical model.

    It's a good show .But the music and spoken delivery is Dull, boring. There is no passion here.
