You know....I was kinda worried that the SNW and LD folks had maybe overhyped this crossover. Man, am I happy to say that they didn't. This was both insanely fun and also heartwarming in places.
I had the same feeling. It’s usually the bigger the hype, the bigger the disappointment. I’m also glad that this episode not only didn’t disappoint, but knocked it out of the park.

@@PepperPete11 Cringe is a perfectly legitimate word to use for things that induce a cringingly uncomfortable reaction. Such as introducing a silly Rick and Morty cartoon parody into the once philosophical science fiction high-brow setting that used to be star trek. You must have to shut off a LOT of your cognitive function to watch it without cringing. Is that your normal state, or do you just do it for the duration of the episode?

When you hear this theme the Goosebumps are real NGL and this reaction is coming from a long time Star Trek fan. I've been watching Star Trek from the original series all the way to now oh, and the first time I heard this I was shaken. Because they got it right....
Words cannot convey how much I love this episode.
Ok what I liked about this intro is that it's not just a 1:1 to the original. Mainly adding that recurring gag of the space parastye sucking on the engine and aswell the space Koala at the end there!

I'm middle-aged. I grew up with nightly syndicated episodes of the original series. With that in mind I tell you that I have not laughed or cried with joy over a TV show until this episode.

I'm currently watching Lower Decks for the first time, and now that I've gotten far enough into it, the koala bit at the end absolutely kills me.

References to a koala god have been a running thing in lower decks. There's a big koala nebula in the brand intro that plays before the episode where the ship swoops by, too.

Bei einer Serie, die schon ein paar Staffeln auf dem Buckel hat und 24 bis 26 Folgen pro Staffel, fände ich ein solches Crossover auch durchaus reizvoll (kennt noch jemand Moonlighting/Das Model und der Schnüffler? Die haben nach einer Weile auch oft experimentiert und mit allen Regeln einer Krimiserie gebrochen), aber hier wirkt es auf mich mehr als befremdlich.
that episode make me see lower deck and it worth it. this is by far my best episode of the strange new worlds. the idea of crossing it was very good but dont over do it. one episode is inaf.

I mean Lower Decks is for adults, it just leans heavily into comedy. Surprisingly it does tackle some more "dramatic" issues. I'd say give it a shot!
I like SNW. But this episode sucked. It was made for nerds. Roger Ebert once said of Star Trek "It has become a much of a muchness". This is exactly that.

Did not like this crossover one little bit. Especially the animated opening. Keep the animated world separate. It is for a different audience and is built on a premise that is not consistent with live action treks.
Why do you say its for a different audience? Its for Star Trek fans! Heck Lower Decks has higher quality stories and characters than JJ Trek, Discovery and the first 2 seasons of Picard.
Dude the whole point of a crossover is to join two different worlds/works together. That's why they animated the intro, it would make no sense to want to make a crossover while keeping the two works separate when the whole point of a crossover is JOINING the two works together.
Lower decks is stupid, I hope they cancel that dumpster fire series.

I think it's safe to say Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds are now the two flagship modern Trek shows. They're both so well made and written, worthy of the name.

Far better than the shitshow that was and is Discovery.
LD and PRO can easily tie as the best of animated modern Trek. SNW though, no contest that it’s the best LA. And of course all three shows duke it out as being the best Modern Trek.
Prodigy definitely deserves a spot. I can't believe Paramount did it dirty. SNW is a fantastic family to somewhat mature show blending modern and classic star trek for new and old fans. Lower Decks similarly celebrates star trek lore while putting its own spin on things in an overthetop fun adult animated show. Prodigy did a REALLY good job shaking things up and having a very different crew and premise whilst still getting at the core of what Star Trek is (actually it had the main cast learn the core of Star Trek along with the audience). Prodigy was really genius targeting a younger audience than usual and getting new fans/kids into the massive franchise. Heck, if it continued long enough it could have been like what Star Wars the Clone Wars was for SW.
Strange New Worlds is close to great. Just keep Goldsman's and Kurtzman's bad ideas away from it. Let them continue to foul up Discovery. Lower Decks has been amazing fun for me. Just finished season one and it feels like a great mix of Star Trek + Futurama. Zany but legit.

The Enterprise doesn't just have it stuck, they try to burn it off ( 1:10 ) and then haul it all the way back to Starbase One! ( 1:20 )

This one gave me goose bumps. It married the best parts of the intros for Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds into something beautiful. I keep replaying it over and over cause it feels so good!

I love that Lower Decks keeps TAS in their hearts with how often they reference that show.
Disappointing in the animated bits of Pike's era it wasn't done in the TAS style. Would have been hilarious.

Love how the Lower Decks SNW opening is almost the complete opposite of the Lower Decks intro.
It builds up th grandeur of the enterprise. Showing it gracefully travel through space, even soaring past asteroids and the shields just dealing with them casually. Even the giant parasite doesn't seem to be causing issues for the Enterprise.
Meanwhile, the lower decks starts with the ship getting sucked into a black hole and repeatedly getting hit by meteors and losing power. Followed by hitting a comet and losing power. Then, the parasite drains power during the warp. Basically, the ship keeps losing power, which is a very star trek problem.
Thats because the Cerritos isn't what is classified as a "Hero-class" ship. Basically, "Hero-Class" is the nickname for the big, bold and amazing ships that Star Trek had been known for like the Galaxy or Sovereign classes in TNG era. Their ships meant to be able to save the day or pose a threat.
Meanwhile, Cerritos is a unity class ship, these aren't hero-class ships. The Cerritos is a tug-boat whose Cali-class is meant to be the reason the Hero-Class ships can keep going. Their never featured or focused on. Lower Decks was the first time we got to focus on one of the background or fluff ships, even if they had to make up the California class for that purpose. Its why the Cerritos for the first 3 seasons was almost always being saved. Eventually by season 4 its got a crew so experienced and credited that its now taking on threats without support, which is the highlight of this class of ships. Their aptitude falls only on the crew.
It doesn't have the fire power to be a big hitter, the only thing the Cerritos could do is take on Pike + Kirk's enterprise because there is a technological difference between the two, but then it would fall down to the crews.

I very nearly skipped this but noticed something was different. I was so glad I didn’t, it was a fun opening.
The most well done crossover between a live action and a cartoon show ive ever seen! Ive never seen a show so much respect to each other

What i love is that the episode begins like a Lower Decks video, no suddenly making it live action to make it "fit"
-Everyone from LD talks like LD, they dont have them slow down for the live action show and SNW even makes a few great jokes about it!
-The intro is like this, which was very surprising. They kept the giant warp sucking bug and the space koala, two things that would require explaining but they just left it for fans of the show
-They made Tendi's heritage a huge part of the plot and kept it canon!
Had to chuckle at the scenes with the warp plasma sucking bug.
Ive been a Trek fan since I was 6. Im fifty and this is hands down some of the most fun Ive ever had watching an episode. Great work.
I've also been a fan practically my whole life and this crossover episode was bliss. Feels great to have some fun new Trek again. :-)

What a time to be alive. After Star Trek ENT I thought I'd never see a new Trek Show. But the last years we got Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds. Even Prodigy was okay. Its even better than back in the 90s
here's hoping we get a follow-up crossover, possibly with Pike's crew getting sent forward in time

I prefer the new titles with the animated ship. S1 is still my favorite though because the images are better aligned with the music, imo. New normal S2 has one or two rough cuts/edits.

Trek doesn't have to be ponderous. This episode was fun - as fun as the DS9/Tribbles crossover back in the day. These shows are entertainment, not high-brow philosophy, though one doesn't necessarily preclude the other. I apply the Gladiator test: ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? Yeah, I was frikkin' entertained. It was a blast. And I say that as a guy who's been watching this stuff since the 70s. LD is great, and SNW is great. They're just different. And the fact that they could make a crossover episode that was great, too - three thumbs up!

It's the opening for the Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks crossover episode. Paramount+ released it on Saturday after the episode was shown at San Diego Comic Con and currently available to watch. It's a great episode and probably my favorite of SNW.

This looks so much better than the usual Intro. The ship works a lot better when both it and the background are drawn, rather than a cheap CGI model with lighting that makes it apparant its cheap.
Before you ask, no, it's not the Ephraim and Dot Enterprise. I love the LD version of the Enterprise.
