- I figured I might as well post both James Brown Band 45s I have on the same day. They're both from the same album, and both records are completely essential for any serious funk fan. I've spent most of my life in and around bands and jammers, and when we all played together on each other's stages, "The Chicken" is what we played. Incredible music. Enjoy. :)

🤫The bassline is "Cold Sweat".
🤫 Cold Sweat, The Popcorn and Parrty by Maceo & The Macks all have the same baseline.
You can add Mother Popcorn to that list.🤓 🎶
You could say James Brown was hip hop before hip hop cuz he sampled his band in multiple cuts.
The sessions were recorded multitrack. Brown would go back to the session, take out stuff, add stuff, add new vocals...voila! Another song..."This is a hit!" I believe he did that with "I Need Help" by Bobby Bird aka "You Got To Have A Mother For Me" by Maceo Parker, If I got the particulars correct.
Who's still listening in 2024? Timeless!
James Brown's band will never go out of style!
Maceo, I said Maceo........"blow."
I always loved this tune and still have it on a cassette somewhere. One of my faves for sure.
Haven't heard this song in years.👍🏼🙂
I'm happy we could play it for you.
1:56 .
Forgotten gem.
I whole-heartedly agree!
& lyn collins was the the hottest ever❤❤❤❤
Agreed!
Vick anderson was too hot as well❤❤❤❤❤
Yep. JB knew how to pick them!
PROUD Owner of this since 2008
I remember - summer 1969. Always liked it, but it never got as much air play on AM radio in Richmond. Marva Whitey was hot too back then. THX!
JB could do no wrong in 1969. Marva Whitney and Bobby Byrd had hits that year, and the JB's were just getting started. Good stuff!
Get up off Dat Thang.😅
prime video tunes enjoy!
Love it!
Would be practicing this on my Traps all summer as a kid.
That's got to be one of the best ways to learn. If you can keep time with JB and company, you're a badass in my book.
How Long has this been going on? Wow !
We've been at it for a few months now. It's fun!
