The only artist that refused to lip sync when coming on Soul Train. About the only one they gave into about it also. I mean who was going to refuse James Brown?
James wasn’t the only one War was always live. Pfunk was always live . It was the way the studios did the contracts back in the day. It’s hard to lip sync Funk because it’s Jazz based and the notes are a little different every time it’s played
James Brown has to be the only performer on soul train to put his mike on the mike stand so he can get his boogie on with the soul train gang while his song is playing!
This is when Soul Music really had soul and singer could sing and musicians could actually play their instruments. Today the same thing cannot be said.
It actually would have been counterproductive to have him and the JBs perform and not have it done LIVE. Same with Barry White, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. That kind of talent can't be lip synched. You got to let them make it do what it do. 💯👍
Ridiculous how good they were . 2 drum sets !!! Dats live man. Den the exit 😂 nobody can top none of his soul train cause like u said he sung and got down 4real !!!! Lol
The JBs were under rated. James Brown had 3 drummers that were on point. Clide, Jambo and Melvin were under rated too. Just listen to the way they played.
I love the comment but it’s not wholly true. I would say African-American men probably had a lot more respect then than they do now, but racism was at an all time high back then. Funny and strange at the same time, isn’t it?
That’s not true, it exist then and still does now 2024. This country was built upon it, it’s a very ugly root that runs deep. We need non existent of it, racism.
Wow this aired on Saturday September 14th 1974... I can't possibly remember what I was doing at the time... I know I had just turned 3 years old... 😆 😆 😆
I saw papa cry. When he thought that I would die Look-a-here I saw papa cry When he thought that I would die. He says something was in his eye, I knew it was a lie.
That is right James Brown band was unstoppable and know yet I have not seen anyone master his band craft and their no one I seen come with that funk beat.
Papa doesn't talk Papa James Brown plays and he is the hardest-working man who opens many doors for people of color, even rappers sample his music, and when through many obstacles in his life but did not allow anyone to stop him and he had a purpose, James Brown, he accomplishes and made big in Hollywood. I believe that if was still around he raised the roof off the roof to give you some more funky beat. I stay to listen to his music. Rest in peace King you bring the globe all you created during your prime duration hit after hit, your music is the best, and when you heard the James Brown sound you get up and rock to the rhythm. This brilliant man who was a man before his time.
I was blessed to hear Mr. James Brown as a kid. I truly learned he was the hardest working man on stage and his music. Real band real instruments in his band. Younger folk, this is what is missing in today's music. Real singers no lip sinc all Real doin what dey do!!!!!!
"Papa didn't cuss, he didn't raise a whole lotta fuss, but when we did wrong... papa beat the hell outta us" BOW DOWN TO THE GODFATHER ❤ Mr Dynamite, Mr Please Please, Hardest Working Man in Show Buisness, King of Soul, Funky President, Administer of the New Super Heavy Funk, Soul Brother No.1

il manque Bobby Bird ,le meilleur duo de l'histoire de la Soul musique
He funked 'em out then went to the floor to jam with the crowd. That's a true legend!
Marvin gaye also would leave the stage and dance with the dancers.
Too funky! Too cool! James was wearing the hell out of that hat. So happy I grew up in that era
Great 🎶! James Brown 👏 Loved it!
😮 I'm jealous 😢 I came in 1982 😅
This Brotha killed it on the stage then hopped off and hit the Soul Train line!?! #Legend
cocaine is a helluva drug
James in his prime my time. Real instruments for the soul...and that beat....move your body involuntarily 😅

My dad always played his music loud and clear. I could hear it in my mothers womb and 42 years later still enjoying it ❤❤❤❤
James Brown didn’t take no mess when it came down to Funk.
This is when Soul Music really had soul and singer could sing and musicians could actually play their instruments.
Today the same thing cannot be said.
Oh man, that had to have been one hell of a fun time on Soul Train for everyone there. He even danced out with the audience lol what a legend!
Just too funky man! RIP James Brown you are missed.
too funky for his own damn self
James Brown could play at least four different instruments PIANO, GUITAR, HARMONICA, and DRUMS, something most people are not aware of
Wow, I had no idea!!! What a legend!!!
Self taught too!
Don't forget ORGAN!
@@a.c.6475 more black artist today should live and learn by that standard!!!
James Browns is fcking incredible
I didn't know.
I’m jealous of everyone in this video. So lucky to witness this.
At no point in time did James Brown ever lip sync when he was on soul train. He’s a legend
Do you know who Mr Magoo is
The JB’s are legends too
He’s beyond yeah proper ledge

The big guy on trumpet looks like Barry White. 🙂
Fred Wesley on trombone.
I have never seen sombody exit the stage like that ever in my life
super bad , no lip syncing for the Jb's !
When i corrected my 3yo. He said "papa don't take no mess" after listening to this
Put this on in a room full of 21 year olds, oh the confused looks lmfao
Yeah like "Eeehh... What are those things in everyone's hands on the stage???" 😂
Not all of us man. Don't tar everyone with the same brush.
ACTUAL LIVE MUSIC ON SOUL TRAIN----!!😁
Very rare! 💯🔥
There it a lot of people I want to meet when I get to Heaven, this man is on the short list!
How do you know if your going to heaven ?
Fred Wesley favors Al Sharpton in the younger days .lol
He never got credit for having a great, super unique voice.
He definitely got credit lol they call him the godfather of soul for a reason. In his younger days his voice was crazy good.
The JBs were under rated. James Brown had 3 drummers that were on point. Clide, Jambo and Melvin were under rated too. Just listen to the way they played.
It ain’t never gonna be an era like the JB era, I hope I’m wrong. We gotta get back to the rhythm of the one 🥁🎸🎹🎼🎷🪘🎺
Best archive of JB on the internet hands down!!! Perfect encapsulation of the funkiest brother who ever walked the planet 🔥🔥🔥🔊🔊🔊
The Funkiest Man Alive. I remember the mid to late 80s when every hip hop hit playing on the radio contained a James Brown sample or two
This is some of the most incredible shit I have ever seen. One love 💯
Lord help me but I love the funk, can't help but loving the funk, if loving the funk is wrong i don't want to be right.
He's the God Father Of FUNK!!!

During this era James Brown reminds me of my father and my uncle with their caps right above their eyes, smooth
Nobody....and I mean NOBODY, could DO IT LIKE MR. JAMES BROWN!! THE MAN IS LEGEND!!
Makes me think of my dad. Strong and loving, but he didn’t take no mess!
Doesn't get any better, just feels so organic that a legend was so intune, that he started to mingle with his fans at the end..
I think he was hoping to go down the traditional SOUL-TRAIN dance line.
But all the dancers gotexcited and wanted to get close to the Godfather.
I want my band to be just like Uncle James Brown's # THEY WERE ABSOLUTETLY SIIICK YA HEAR ME # CHANGE UPS JUST IGNANT
