In-Depth Explanation Of The Frame Meter In Street Fighter 6

- PART 2 IS UP! ➡️ • In-Depth Explanation O...
THE FRAME METER IS A NEW VERY POWERFUL TOOL IN HELPING US LAB SF6!
POST-RELEASE ERRATA (6/25/2023):
- Above the Frame Meter, the text that used to say "Recovery" has now been changed to "Advantage", which is much much better!
- The example I gave of a fully invincible get-off-me Overdrive move was Kimberly's OD Spin Kick. That no longer has full invincibility and can no longer be used as a wake-up DP type move.
- I don't think I'm ever gonna get to a shorter version of the Frame Meter explanation video. Dammit.
One of the newest editions to Street Fighter 6's Training Mode is the Frame Meter. We haven't really seen anything like this before in a Fighting Game, and it's super valuable and really powerful in terms of what it shows us and how we can evaluate situations and learn how to handle certain setups. James takes the time to painstakingly explain the Frame Meter here in extreme detail, so sit back, relax, and enjoy!

PART 2 IS OUT NOW, ALL ABOUT HOW TO USE THE FRAME METER TO FIGURE OUT COMBOS! ua-cam.com/video/JD9tGulvel8/v-deo.html
The "Condensed" version of the Frame Meter basics still isn't up. Do people still want it? I can still work on it when I finally have the chance. LOL!
Superuseful. I would like a part 2 indeed, although I do think this already really helps a lot for those topics. Still interested what else is there though, thank you :)
Nice break down my friend
@@Godwinsname I 2nd this. Please make a part 2!!
Is it up?
👀?
As someone completely new to SF6, this has been a great help.
Welcome… and enjoy it, once you get it.
We’re all new to SF6…. 🤨
@@TwistedSoul2002 Ur also new to engineering? :D When I bought it I never could've imagined the depth it has.
This video seriously needs to be watched more. A lot of these casual players would benefit so much from it
Im one of them trying to get out of silver🫡
@@heroicsquirrel3195 Don't forget to work on your knowledge of the Drive System. Once you master that, Platinum rank will be easy to get.
@@AyaGumede i got to silver 5 stars in the beta, the hardest thing for me right now is confirming punish counters/counters into the combos that only work with counters, gotta really get my understanding of characters frame data, combo system feels good, reacting to DI with my own isnt hard, parrying is easy, instant drive rush is easy enough, my goal is to reach gold in a few months, then diamond will be my ultimate goal, i feel then i can officially say im good haha and this game is so fun that it might be the only fighting ill ever wanna take that far, sfv and mk11 never grabbed enough
@@heroicsquirrel3195 LOL, wait until you get hold of the full game with all the starting roster. It's gonna be lit
what confuses the hell out of me is the start up frames but in the bottom it would say green 5 but on the top it says startup 6F 😐
James you’re a treasure to the FGC and gaming in general! A living legend!!
I would love a part 2 of how to use frame data to figure out new combos or longer combos outside of what the trials will give us. Love this video!
James no other creator is taking their time to TEACH this as you are, thank you. You don’t rush over anything and you have a gift in teaching.
Definitely need a part 2. And gonna re watch this and take a lot of notes
Yeah yeah this video is amazing and necessary. Beneficial to new players and veterans alike. But can we appreciate how good this game looks in slow-mo? These animations are actually nuts.
James dropping the knowledge! Man James it’s so surreal , I used to watch you cast with ultra David back in the day when I was a massive stream monster haha . And now years later as I emerge back into the fgc for street fighter 6 I’m seeing all these guys I used to watch . Man thanks for all the entertainment over the years . Looking forward to the future of fighting games . Hope everyone is having a great day !
This frame meter needs to be in every single fighting game, it is genuinely amazing.
Part 2 me please !!! As newcomer to fighting games I find this stuff wild ! I never knew fighting games were this deep ! Especially using frames to come up with combos I vote part 2 for newcomers like me that really want to get into fighting games
As a casual player I found this fascinating and you have a gift for explaining it all very simply for the lay man. Thanks!
I'm new to frame data so I got some of this, but at the same time, I'll have to watch this a few times for everything to stick.
Insightful video as always.
This video is great, and you should definitely do a follow-up showcasing the concept of "turns." Once you start getting into the concept of how to "take your turn," you can pretty fluidly go into the concept of spacing, and how your turn might not actually be yours to take, depending on more specific interactions.
This exactly. Now that I fully understand what it means to be plus from this vid I find myself wondering what's to stop a person from just throwing out moves that are plus on block. Like Problem X with Bison just racking up gray life on his ops in sf5
@Kyornik the quantity of plus moves from 5 to 6 will likely be the big difference in how pressure works. In 5, some characters (like the aforementioned M. Bison) have a ton of buttons that leave him plus, allowing for seemingly endless block strings. In 6, it looks like plus buttons are going to be much more rare, making such crazy pressure less easy to get.
James is a really good speaker, very thorough explanation and excellent delivery. This sounds like an official “how to” guide straight from Capcom
great work man!
Excellent breakdown - looking forward to more!
Wow. Great vid and editing :)
Very nice, James! More, please!
Great stuff. If I was at capcom I would have this video somehow embedded in the training menu for easy access. It speeds up learning the interface dramatically.
Thank you so much for this! Please give us a part 2 this was awesome as you've always been!
Great guide, thanks James
My journey in the lab starts in an hour and a half. Thank you for this!

Once again, phenomenal work explaining the concept and how this in-game tool works. Thank you for your contributions to the community James, you’re the man!
Very helpful thank you! Keep up the videos
Thanks James. I had a relative understanding of the frame meter but this filled in a lot of gaps!
This was really useful. Coming from Tekken and its frame data boxes to these meters just frazzled my mind! Definitely would love a Part 2, also.
Hey James this video was so amazing. You explained everything so well and clear to understand very, very impressive
more please. best way to teach. the explanations of the lingo help so much. iv asked for help so many times, and ppl just reply with so much lingo, they may as well be speaking in another language.
Incredibly detailed video with great explanations. As someone who is well versed in fighting games, there were still a few things i didn't quite understand such as the two different startup numbers. This video explains many things about SF6 frame meter for both new and existing players. Great job!
Ok James listen up. We need part 2, 3, 4 and 5 of this. Thanks for the great content and keep these coming
thank you, this was extremely helpful. i've always been a more instinctive player, so after hearing a lot of the lingo, this cleared up a lot
What a great explanation!
Thank you sensei Chen, a part 2 would be much appreciated! 🦾
I would love to see a part 2 of this, had to bookmark this amazing video for sf homework
This video is gem. Great resource
This was so helpful. I was confused about the two values of startup. I'd like to see a part 2!
This is my first SF and FG and while I understood the general concepts of frame data, this has been an imense help to clarify and understand concepts betters
I want to see a part 2 James!!
Doing the lords work. Appreciate the video
Really looking forward to the in-depth combo video with the frame meter! That's actually why I watched this video so I hope it's soon.

5:40 you have answered the exact question i was about to type. I was so confused during the beta. thank you so much
Part 2 yes pleeeease. AWESOME video btw!
Amazing guide for frame data 👍
Thank you James.
This is THE video I was waiting for ever since I saw those colorful bars at the bottom, in various demo/beta videos.
Would love to see more and about the concept of trading.
