      Rushdown Guile is terrifying.
      I just played a long set Vs a Guile as Lily, they were probably bamboozled when I tagged them with an od windstock from half screen when they tried a sonic blade. Most people are waiting for spires but her disjoints can mess with booms a lot, Medium punch is a pesky button.

      Two things we all need to do A LOT:
      1) Study your own replays and learn from your mistakes and bad habits.
      2) Study replays of high level players using your characters in your most common and worst match-ups.

    I mained Tekken for the longest time but fell out if love with it, I just can't react to lows or keep up with the knowledge checks. I picked up SF a few months before 6 dropped after bouncing off V a few times (Season 1 Juri 🤮) SF has a language that feels easier to grasp for me. I still get overwhelmed when I run in to someone way better than me in battle hub but i'm finding it easier to sit back after the salt subsides and think about different things I could be doing. It's so satisfying when things start to click and your having a run of games where you feel in control and can actively think about stuff.

      Reactions = prediction. Its a saying ive learned because its so much easier to react in any fighting game when youre looking for a certain option. It ties into this videos message also about seeing youre opponents habits. Unforunately it takes time to learn what characters can do but 😥 but its easy to start with universal mechanics (jumping, dashing, di). Some stuff is unreactable like grabs and lows but thats just how the game is

      Also the more u play a game the more ingrained the animations and sound cues are, after years u will be able to tell ryus jab is coming way sooner than a noob ,this combined with general experience and muscle memory means ur not hesitating or deciding what to do, u see the first two start up frames of a move and ur hand has all ready imput the counter, meanwhile lik timmy who just got the game hasn’t even registered he got jabbed yet.

  • @richr161
    @richr161 Місяць тому

    Best is when you adjust and win. There are some specials that go unpunished because they're hard to check and you add it to your autopilot. Even when your analyzing the match in real time and know you have to stop sometimes you still do the move out of habit (Kims s.mk to run buffer). The game plan takes a hit as well because you just lost one of your tools that you've been relying on.
    Sometimes its annoying because the other player makes you play in a way that you just don't like.

    For me, the game's damage output makes it extremely difficult to know how to adapt to my opponent's playstyle. Getting shimmied just ONCE, or getting tick thrown just ONCE, does not really send the message in my head that "this person likes to go for this option, so I'll be ready for it next time"-because usually, the people I play don't always do the same thing twice in a row, even if they "like" that option. SOMETIMES they do, but they often don't-often enough that I'm just never sure when they're going to reveal the thing that they like doing to me. I don't know how to calculate risk/reward when every choice will result in extreme amounts of pain and death if I'm wrong.
    The thing is, too-by the time I'm 100% confident that my opponent likes to go for a specific option, I'm already dead or about to die, because I already guessed wrong twice, and I'm only allowed to guess wrong once more before I lose, because that's how much damage every character deals in this game. That's why I wish the game's damage output was significantly lessened across the board so that it's easier to make adjustments in the middle of a round, rather than having to make my adjustments in game 2 after I've already lost game 1 and I've already lost 10 MR because I just couldn't predict what this 1400 Zangief was going to do despite supposedly being 200 points better than him with a significantly stronger character, Chun-Li.

      Have to read the type of player they are and the conditions. You see pros get cooked the first round in rank by a random, but next round getting the perfect.
      You have to win the neutral if you don't wanna take the mix.
      Zangief is a heavy read character. The opponent is always going to be looking at your pattern of play and adjusting.

    • @valeoncat13

      Kinda sounds like a lack of adequate matchup knowledge.
      If you know the opponents characters options, you are already taking a massive load of off of your need to simply "guess for life".
      Like if you watch any of Sajams 'Road to Master' he'd had a basic idea of a characters risky and safe options and used that to make notes on how much risk taking the opponent did sometimes he'd lose the first game taking these notes.
      And if you dont have these basic mu notes... then you need to play the game and get that experience, which often times means losing games too.

    I'm so glad even someone as prolific and known as you has the same problem as I do when playing discord fighters and other games with lobby systems that require me to directly ask someone for a match. I really really hate bugging people and asking for things from strangers so a system where the only way to get games is to take up people's time is really really unappealing. Sucks cause the games I really like are all like this (DNF, UnderNight, BBCF, etc)

    As far as distractions go, it is hard to beat fighting games, pun intended. The learning while doing something fun aspect is so powerful I have a tough time truly considering them a distraction if actively engaged with. And this is coming from a bad masher, I have a long way to go but it is so fun

    • @finnmarr-heenan2397
      @finnmarr-heenan2397 29 днів тому +1

      A big distraction is training is ur own fun, say ur intermediate who can land a fun satisfying 26 hit combo that’s not optimal, now say u want to practice a specific tech, either a hard combo that u can’t figure out or like a frame perfect imput where u have no idea what just frame to attempt …. U will find urself getting frustrated and bored and before u know it u have been subconsciously doing ur same bnb that u all ready mastered , fighting is a hard art because all artists need to step out of their comfort zone to grow, but in fighting u do what ur good at and keep doing it till they make u stop , but this is virtual fights the head trauma and consequences arnt real so the desire to experiment should be higher . I would force myself to keep drilling the thing I sucked at till I could do it consistently on both sides. Then in the match is ban myself from using the characters crutch to win , I’d rather lose trying to implement my new game plan than just win in my comfort zone .

    The worst part of this is running into a completely new character(in terms of not having a match against them) in a higher skill level.
    I'm Platinum Rank with Guile and I fought my first Ed and first memorably good Marisa in Ranked a few days ago and got absolutely destroyed.
    It especially sucks(regardless of the character matchup) when I'm trying to read or react to my opponent but my autopilot keeps doing the actions I literally say out loud "This doesn't work against them.". It also doesn't help that my panic button is Drive Impact when a fair majority of players I've played manage to counter it on a somewhat regular basis. I guess it's the same as my problem with hitting Sweep: me see big button that do the big hit and make me feel good, no way they block or counter.

    • @UltraChenTV
      @UltraChenTV  Місяць тому

      Not as many as simplistic as that. But for example against Zangiefs, I will start out very safely to see if they are jumpy as many Giefs are. For Cammys, I like to check if they are more footsies based or obsessed with Dive Kicks. Etc. But I use the Ryu example because it’s clearly the simplest and illustrates the goal the best. But overall, for most characters, it’s about knowing the options they possess and seeing which ones your opponents like to go to most.
