    Well made! I love how original and refreshing your style is, especially seeing ss railway history can be a long slog to watch if not done right! Seriously impressed. :)

    This was a great video! A little confusing with the 171/170/4 madness but otherwise great!
    Also when you talk about the LM 172s, they replaced mainly 150s, they ran on the snow hill lines before

    I remember when Turbostars were new and some critics criticised things like build quality (some interior panel gaps and vibrations) as well as window alignment and seat comfort. However, I recall them being nice to ride and prefer them over some newer stuff.

    The 170's are in my opinion a great all rounder train. You can have them on an intensive all stops suburban Fife service or stick them on an Inverness to Edinburgh or Glasgow service and they do the job- they get people from one place to another in reasonable comfort.

  • @TrainsAndWellbeing
    @TrainsAndWellbeing 2 місяці тому +4

    You're right about the seats!
    I remember traveling to Inverness on an East Coast HST which I thought was comfortable enough, but the journey home was on a Class 170 and my back definitely appreciated the difference. I hope they don't retrofit ironing boards the way they have with some of the Class 156's.

    The best MU in Britain is the 170 used by Scotrail.
    The luggage rack is in the middle of the car where you can keep an eye on your gear!
    On all other trains ‘er inside had me down to the vestibule at every stop to see our suitcases were ok!
    After 141 trains in 3 months, I needed a holiday to get over all that to and fro!
    Well done Scotrail!

    The Turbostar trains are still the best rolling stocks in the UK. And they still are going strong and are so reliable. Such a shame that Bombardier are no longer in the UK but Alstom who took over in 2021 are still to maintain the whole rolling stock.

    I personally think the 158/159s rule the roost. The transport for Wales sets are excellent in particular. Ok lack of AC an issue and 10 mph too slow, but still probably the best produced imho.

    The 172s have a performance advantage over the 170s, they have a mechanical automatic gearbox instead of a hydraulic-based transmission. This means that the 172s can accelerate much faster, hence why they're used on more metro-style services

    Turbostars (mainly the 170/4) and the express sprinter (158s) are 2 of my local commuter trains and where i usually go for big shopping it's the first one that comes so it's either an express sprinter or a sprinter. (185s aswell)
    if i had to pick either of the 3 i'd pick the express seater as the train is a much more better experience than the turbos and normal sprinter (we have the /2s)

  • @mattevans4377

    I know the Northern seats are atrocious, but the 19x family is probably in contention with the Turbos for best DMU, especially for the price. It's really best to think of the 19x as a modern Pacer. And very few people would choose a Pacer over a 19x

    • @cedriclynch
      @cedriclynch 2 місяці тому

      The Hull Trains 170s, which were in Anglia Railways livery, were also used on Anglia Railways's trains between Norwich and Basingstoke. These went round the North London Line stopping at only a few stations but had to go very slowly because they could not overtake the North London trains that were stopping at all stations. You could get from Norwich to Basingstoke quicker but not so straightforwardly by using the Underground from Liverpool Street to Waterloo.
