I was going to suggest that you visit Xinjiang and Yunnan province, then I heard that Under the 144-hour visa-free transit policy, foreign travelers can only stay in certain Chinese cities. For instance if your entry is Beijing, you might not be allowed to travel to Shanghai. Please find out about this condition and plan where to visit accordingly so you don’t get into trouble. An alternative maybe to go to Hong Kong to apply for a visa.

Well I don’t claim the Japanese Airline staff for being cautious.
Airlines get stiff fines if they transport any person that isn’t kosher.
I remember one time flying JL to MEX from YVR. I had a connecting flight to Tijuana and a U.S. Green Card.
The agent didn’t want to let me on, due to no air ticket out of Mexico. Fortunately the supervisor knew that Tijuana was on the border and a flight there was equivalent to a ticket out of the country!

Firstly the driver was going to look for change, maybe go to the convince store, due to almost cashless society in China (everyone pay with WeChat alipay..). Secondly, there's no tip tradition in China, you pay exact the price as stated.

I did the 144-hour visa last December, and it was easy. The only question was what I was doing in the other countries as the Agent checked my passport. I love their public transport. It was the most straightforward foreign language system I've ever used. There was English information. I like China.

Dear Chris, welcome and hope you had a blast!
Just a quick clarification - there is no 144 transit visa. It's officially called 144-hour Transit Without A Visa. It's an arrangement that you can enter into the country when specific conditions are met - you travel from and to different locations (hence the 'transit'), and you need to stay within a designated region in china for a maximum of 144 hours. No visa will be issued.

hello chris . It may seem convenient to rest your chopsticks by sticking them upright into your bowl of rice. However, in Japan/China /Taiwan, it is considered not only rude, but also bad luck, because of its affiliation with Japanese funerals. Traditionally, a bowl of rice is left for the dead with chopsticks stuck upright into the rice.

Chris, I just left Beijing on 144 transit out of Seattle, straight to Beijing, 4 days as well, all they asked me for was my flight out Beijing to Korea. When I got to Beijing they asked for hotel info as well as flight. You don’t have to fill out arrival card. If you are going to use the subway, I recommend you get a Beijing Pass card (money card) It’s new for foreigners, you can get it at just about any train station and use at parks and taxis, only many taxi drivers don’t know about it yet. Make sure you go to Qianmen street. Enjoy your time in Beijing.

Hi Chris. Love your content and the promotion of positivity in your videos.
Can’t help but notice, as I don’t want you to get sick again while traveling. Please don’t use the same tong to pick up the raw meat and the cooked meat to avoid cross contamination. Use the chopsticks to pick up the cooked meat. It’s a rule/custom in those bbq or hot pot restaurants. Refer to the following quote I researched. Excited for your next video.
“Cross-Contamination: Raw meats can harbor harmful bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, and Campylobacter. If uncooked meat comes into contact with cooked meat, these bacteria can transfer to the cooked meat, which is already ready to eat. This can lead to foodborne illnesses.”

Hey Chris solid video. I’ve been to China 3 times. Not sure what you heard, but you can get a 10 year Visa at the Chinese embassy in LA. I got one in 2016 and it was a pretty easy process. Also, always print out addresses to places that aren’t English friendly in the local language. I know you were dead tired on this video. You looked like you were ready to collapse. Being tired while traveling is bad, you’ll end up making careless mistakes. That happened to me on one of my China trips. I was grossly overcharged for a taxi after arriving at 1am.

"Difficult to enter?" Do you know other people from non US allies countries say the same thing about entering to the US or UK? And I suggest you ask their experience of entering such countries also. For example, many Chinese students have reported their experience about re-entering to the US after school break/holiday to home literally get interrogated at the US airport unnecessarily, threatened, got their phone taken away, & some even refused entry.

Check the Chinese embassy and consulate general offices in the US for more details.
There are also DIRECT FLIGHTS to mainland Chinese cities to some US cities.
Shanghai for example is served by China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Delta, American and United.

It happened to me as well back in 2018. I kept telling them that US citizens have 72 hours(it was 72, glad now its 144 hours) transit visa for Beijing and other major cities in China. You would think the people behind the counters would know but they don’t. And the flight attendant also gave a hard time and kept asking me for my chinese visa….. oh well. I did managed to get through. I think i was one the first US citizen to do that…. Enjoy china, it’s awesome. Cannot wait to go back.

Check out Kunming in Yunnan Province. The food is awesome, and the open markets in the evenings are similar to S. E. Asia, but much more open (no canopies), breezy. Most importantly, the food has many non-Han Chinese culinary traits, maybe Turkic? Kunming is also a relxed city, but is the capitol city of Yunan. Finally, Xinuan Bhanna in lower Yunan is the only arbyhdea where you can find the root civilization of the Thais of Thailand. Over there they consider themselves the Dai Tribes. However, it was their ancesters who traveled down the Maekhong River down through Laos and on into Thailand, where they established the Lanna Kingdoms, Sukhothai, Ayuthayya, Thonburi, and eventually Bangkok of today. Xinnuan Bhanna is a heavily promoted area for Chinese tourists to enjoy tge Water Festival, Dai New Year, which is actually Songkhran Festival in Thailand. Happy travels!!!
