Tall Pantry Storage Cabinet
#pantry#organization#renovation#diywoodworking - Навчання та стиль
Exactly on time for my kitchen cabinet build. I have two pantries to do with this process and you did exactly what I wanted!
Can't tell you how much i enjoyed this video. I just tore out 1/2 of my wife's kitchen cabinets to make the plans for the new cabinets. she put stuff in tubs but i know it'll be several months until we have new cabinets so I'm going to build this for temporary use and I wouldn't be surprised if she wants to keep it permanently. thanks.
Fantastic work, Matt! Your videos are amazing! Keep it up 😀👍
Another great video, I appreciate the various types of joinery you use to assemble your projects. Additionally your explanation and commentary is well done. You take the time to explain your thoughts and reasons why. Thank You.
I just came across your videos and love them. I’m learning a lot. Can’t stop watching. Thank you so much for teaching us. You are awesome brother
Beautiful work, Matt. What I like even more than the great results is how you explain your approach, plans and the advantage of the options you choose. You're a good teacher in a world of content providers who seem to be more about 'bragging'. You have another subscriber (with the bell activated) and I'm looking forward to learning more from you.
Thanks for all the kind words, friend! ☺️
Have made a number of cabinets with pull-out shelves for the shop and clothes closets but never thought about using that style for a pantry. Or for making the face frame as a unit and then attaching to the cabinet. I will make one of these for the wife but make adjustable shelving using pin holes. Thanks for these ideas, really appreciate your video, proves you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Hey thanks! I also made these so doors could be easily added, although in my pantry they wouldn't work.
Very nice addition and will definitely add to the Organization of items. Really like your drawer design! Thanks for posting!
Thank you for supporting me 🙌
Great job Matt...I like the design of the roll out drawers! And thanks a ton for the mention about the Domino Docks. 👊🏼
Thanks Ramon!
Great design and build! Thanks for the video and ability to get the plans.
Hello from Crossville, TN! Can't believe I just now found your videos! I have been binge watching all of them! Love your content my friend God bless you and your family and thank you for the great content!
Thanks brother!
What an awesome build!
Love the look of those drawers!
Fantastic work, Matt! It looks beautiful! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks MC🙌
Nicely done Matt!
Good Idea to utilize space from the ground up. I will be doing this for my pantry build!
We LOVE it!
Very simple build but very good job love the drawer detail I'm going to incorporate that also have the same pantry problem
Awesome!
That was a terrific project and thanks for sharing. I, too, wonder about painting prefinished plywood.
Prefinished ply is so great to paint. Gives a glass smooth finish! No sanding and no grain showing through
New subscriber here. I am looking at doing just what you did for my pantry. I haven’t made drawers from plywood before so this will be a learning adventure. Haha. Thanks for the video, all the best.
Solid build and presented well. Like, commented and subscribed.
The one thing I really struggle with when making custom depth cabinets is building them to accommodate available drawer slides. It's not a common issue but looking at under mount vs side mount you really need to plan around the slide. I wish this was talked about more in many cabinet making videos.
For custom sizes or builtins, I don't typically plan that way. For me the planning is dictated by the customer's needs and then whatever drawer slide fits is what I base the drawers around. Sometimes you have more space left in the back than maybe you want but I've never had a complaint about that kind of issue.
Interesting build. I need something like this.
This seems like it was a lot of work. Great job brother 👍
I like your direct, but still helpful, style. New sub!
SICK!
And no background "music" - Thank you!
Subbed!
Very nice pantry I'm going to build the same thing you're good at what you do keep up the good work thank you for the video
Solid build video! I gotta try that KemAqua
It's really awesome
I really like it!!
I got the Rockler shelf pin jug because I didn’t have to move it as much since I can do 12 pins at a time
Great Job! I still prefer dovetails or hidden dovetails on the front of drawers if for no other reason to show my care and craftsmanship.
Fantastic!
I really like it I hope one day I can make my own
whoaaaaaa...never seen that type of joinery!
Great video. Where did you get that plywood? I want to look up who they distribute. It looks better than the prefinished I've bought.
Excellent!
Very good nice work
looked awesome.
Thank you!🙌
beautiful
Nice work, I like the idea of pre-finished plywood for painting. I also think you were wise to cut your drawer sides to rough length prior to milling, an important order of operations that people might miss. Did you consider putting doors on at all?
Doors would not have functioned well where this cabinet is located. The right side would run into the window sill and prevented the drawers from extending out. Plus these cabinets are inside the pantry and not out in the kitchen so doors would have been a bit overkill. Had I built these cabinets in the kitchen then I would have added doors.
Even though wifey was gone i still would have put something on the floor in case of glue spillage. I've assumed one too many times. I learned my lesson.
looks great!
Thank you!
Really great build! What type of plywood is that? Smooth finish?
Beautifully done. I would however, add two doors for a visual effect and to protect your food items from dust and temperature fluctuations. But I appreciate that it's a matter of choice.
Yes! But doors would not have worked well in this scenario
Very nice.
It is a wonder why ALL pantry shelves are not done like this. It makes total sense. We have pull out trays in all of our kitchen cabinets and love them.
My wife loves the pull out drawers. Makes things so much easier to get to
Awesome job! How would someone do the same with limited tools, and where would someone begin with this? I want to build the same for my apartment?
Well done
Thank you 🙏
For some reason the camera made the depth of the cabinet look like 2 feet deep. LOL The side view clarified. Well done. I better not show wifey or I'll be out in the garage "fixing" our pantry because it needs it.
I finally found it so never mind, hope all is well with you & family, have a safe 4th my friend.
WELDONE matt super cool fast and very strong.
Thank you Manjit! ❤️
I need to rebuild my ENTIRE kitchen cabinets. Uppers, lowers and countertops all around so I'm definitely buying a set of plywood router bits.
They help speed things up!
I have got to make something like this!
It's a great upgrade!
Awesome,
Excellent video, like many others have commented you do a fantastic job with no wasted time in your videos. I really love your channel. Do you purchase your plywood from local lumber yard or from big box stores?
Thank you! I get my ply from the local plywood distributor
Really liked your cabinet making I need to make some formake song for a kitchen at down in the basement that I'm building. Any tips would be helpful. I would like it to be frameless. I have a lot of 3/4 inch material. Patrick
Great. TY very much.
You're welcome 😄
nice research video. learned alot about some thing that werent in the original model.... :0)
Yeah yeah sometimes (ok a lot of the time) I make changes on the fly 🤣🤣🤣
I cannot believe my eyes watching you work with tools I've never heard of. And your garage is the size of two full rooms? Yeah, I saw the doorway leading to the other room. lol
Do you do cabinet work or just home projects for videos? I am a finish contractor and I try and focus on channels that do production work for customers?
There is great things to learn from everyone it’s just when making product for money it tends to cut out anything that will slow a guy down?
Such as cutting dado’s by making multiple passes over an 1/8th TS Blade?
Infinity makes an 8 1/4” x 1/4” blade for your TS and I cut out 8 drawers dados In about an hour or less?
I really liked your cabinet video and drawer slide attachment ! That is a super fast way to attach slide whereas before I used a jig from Kreg?
Anyway after watching I was betting you do cabinets jobs?
How wide is that pantry? I’ve got 36 inches to work with.
Thank you
Great video, Matt! Just curious, looked like you used pre finished plywood fir the carcass but then painted. Any benefit to doing it that way or did you just use what you had?
There's a definite benefit! Since the surface is prefinished you absolutely get a glass smooth finish. No grain lines, no sanding. Just use a good oil or shellac based primer and then your favorite paint. It's the best!
@@MWAWoodworks good to know, thank you! I have a lot of built in projects to do so this is very helpful.
what type of wood are you using here?
Very nice. At 7:36 you mentioned you'll explain how you took care of the exposed locking rabbet but you missed it. Can you post a comment explaining what you did, please?
I cut them off when I cut the profile on the drawer front
I bought your plan for this which is great but doesn’t include which drawer slides to buy.
Dear Matt, thank you for sharing these great videos. I have a question for you, I see that you use a plywood plate that seems to be already lacquered when you start cutting it, painted it before or buy it like that? Thanks and greetings from Argentina
Yes I purchased with with a coating already applied
@@MWAWoodworks thank you for your reply. I can ask you what the brand is and in which store you buy it. From now on thank you and good week
I've purchased more than one brand. Columbia Forrest products is one company. I get mine from Nashville Plywood Co
How do I purchase a set of plans
About the 1:50 mark (notice the wobble) is why I believe a track saw is more accurate for cutting sheet goods to final dimension. No offense to you for I think it just applies to the everyday handling of large panels.
At 13:59 this is sung to the song by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Parents Just Don't Understand, Wives Just Don't Understand
Can you talk about how you get the drawer dimensions to fit the width of the opening.
The drawer width is 1 inch smaller than the opening to allow for the side mount drawer slides
How thick should my plywood be?
What are the alternatives to those dados to assemble the top bottom and middle of the cabinets? I'm planning something very similar to this, I have a small table saw and router table, but I dont see how i can cut those accurately in my shop, especially the middle one on an 8' long board. Awesome build!
Do you have a router and straight edge? That would be the easiest way to cut them. Alternatively you could assemble using pocket screws or dominos
@@MWAWoodworks Thanks for the reply! I only have one router at the moment, and its installed in the table, but i could potentially take it out and do it that way. Was also thinking pocket screws... i might go that way, but the dados seemed stronger.
Where do you get pre-finished plywood like that or did you do that in advance?
Nope they sell it. My local plywood warehouse carries it
What is this plywood. I have never seen anything that smooth and shiny at my supplier. What would I ask for? Does paint stick to it well, or will it peel?
It's pre finished plywood. My local plywood distributor has it. You can paint it but must use a primer like shellac first before you paint it
I am going to attempt this with your help. Where do you get your plywood from. I cant find finished plywood like that. What do I look for
Prefinished uv coated maple plywood that I get from the plywood distributor in Nashville
I noticed your shop has a ventilation system you can hook up to hand tools. Is this custom or off the shelf.
I have a video on my dust collection in the shop 👍
What screws do you use for the carcass assembly?
I use 1.25" drywall screws. They hold really well in plywood!
Great project and video. Kind of a shame to paint the maple... but very nice.
The plywood you use has a sheen to it. I haven't seen finished plywood in the big stores. What kind of wood it it or where did you purchase it?
I get it from the plywood wholesaler in Nashville.
What sprayer did you use? Look like graco brand
Yep
I live just north of you in Brentwood, and am just getting into woodworking. Where is your favorite source for lumber?
Mimms lumber in Nashville
@@MWAWoodworks Thanks! I always enjoy your videos
Thanks Phil!
how about plans for the pocket hole jig box....do they exist?
No, I built that 10 years ago 😀
hi, where did you buy the plywood?
Nashville Plywood Co
How long do those plywood bits last you?
I'll let you know when I wear one out 😉
Who manufactures the right angle clamps you used?
Woodpecker
@@MWAWoodworks Great, thanks.
Am I right in thinking the base is never attached to anything? I don't imagine it can move, but I was expecting the cabinets to be attached to the base at some point. It's not necessary?
Not needed. The cabinets are attached to the wall. They just rest on the base. Same with all cabinets.
@@MWAWoodworks brilliant, thanks!
That plywood looks pre-finished. What kind is that?
Correct. Pre finished maple ply
@@MWAWoodworks thanks! that's not available anywhere near me.
If you live near a city it probably is available. You have to find the plywood wholesale companies that supply the cabinet makers in your area
Wow ! Now there is a waste of some good hard maple.
The end of the video needs to be longer!
Waited for her to leave so she wouldn't give u a dirty look while gluing it? It b i just built this.
I can't be the only person that thinks you sound just like Jeff Ross
I show this to my wife ,,she approved,, that means I have to make one like that to fill her mass grocery item....
You're welcome 😁
Sooo, What did your Wife have to say about the remodel? Thanks!
She says so far, so good 🤣🤣🤣 I still have the rest of the pantry to do
@@MWAWoodworks - I’ve been married 42 years, let me just say. “It never had ends”! Just keep Them Happy, or at
Least make an honest effort!
Fancy....9ft ceilings ......lol
Living large 😂
Drawer fronts were a complete fail.
So, buy $10-20k in tools, then make a cabinet. Got it. Thanks
You think I bought all these tools to make one cabinet?😂😂😂
you can do alot of this with just a table saw
Being sarcastic. I have a cordless circular saw and a drill.
Why do you people eat canned food so much ?
India is way much better!!!
