- A DIY project that is sure to add more space for storing food or really any items. This affordable woodworking project is simple and can be done with basic woodworking tools. I hope this video will help with your desire to build your own projects.
Food Pantry supply list.

*Took 2 to assemble and 3 to lift into place **MyseIf.Furniture** Directions were pretty clear. A large space is needed to layout all the pieces. The cabinet is holding up well after many weeks of use.*
Finally have a template on how to make a 40 wide by 16 by 92 high cabinet for my awkward 1954 kitchen. Thanks for sharing !
I ned this for my kitchen as I do not have modular kitchen with sliding pantry cupboards.
Thank you for the idea and video.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks! Great idea making shelves on the doors! I am getting ready to remodel my kitchen and that’s a great idea!
I’m glad you liked it, thank you!
Love this, throwing my current piece of crap out to make this very soon
Beautiful job!
Thank you!
THANKS! Very easy to follow instructions. Very easy to duplicate your beautiful results. You really helped me out.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it!
I could be wrong here but small issue i noticed, you are using 1x's, and all store bought 1x is actually 3/4" you have 1 1/2" pocket screws listed however 1 1/4th" is the correct recommended length. I tested the 1 1/2" on some scrap and it split the board, granted i am using hardwood, Kregg lists the 1 1/4th" for 3/4" thick lumber. Just and FYI for people
I've been looking for something like this in a while. best pantry video on UA-cam!
Nice pantry cabinet!!! I will have to adjust the measurements because I want mine a bit smaller… but I love your work. Thank you.
Thank you so nice and peaceful and easy to understand and follow thank you
Omg this is amazing. I’m thinking of getting a fixer upper camper trailer but have zero experience in building. I wish I had some one like you around man this is awesome.
Well dang it..... I wanted to see the end product, but UA-cam puts ads everywhere at the end. I turn annotation off, but they do it anyways.
You did a really good job on building this, I liked it. Just wished Y/T wouldn't block stuff.
Love it i would definitely try to make one of them
Thank you!
I love your project and was hoping that there was somewhere that I could see the actual plans and layouts on paper. I know you give all the dimensions in the video, but seeing it on paper would be incredibly helpful to try this project out for myself. Thanks for all your efforts and I look forward to your response.
I don’t have written plans sorry. I just have the video. I just made it as I went and made a video without any plans.

Superb project! Just what I needed for a tall RV pantry cabinet. I like the lighter weight of the carcass.
Very nice doors, solid and holds a lot.
PLEASE DO NOT ADD MUSIC TO A DIY, DEMO, TOUR, COOKING, OR ANIMAL VIDEO. This is audio overload. It hurts the ears.
Just mute it
Great Idea! Love it
Nice video, nice work!
thanks looks great. will try it
Thanks for the video. Nice job!
I’m glad you liked it! Thank you!
Like your video.
Dude next time build one with tools that a poor guy has
I get you, it took my a while to accumulate tools
Do yo have a supply list of everything used for this. I’d love to head to lowes this upcoming weekend and snag everything I would need to complete this project.
Thanks in advance
Grat love it ❤
I made a pantry just like yours and the doors are warped. How did you keep them straight?
Hi I am Ginny
I am wanting to build a pantry like this one. Except I want to add 2 swing shelves like you have on the door.
The swing shelves one on right that swing to the left and one on left that swing to the right
Then behind the them have pull out shelves and on the other side more pull out shelves
Well done sir!
Thank you!
This is phenomenal, thank you! Does anyone know if it makes a difference to use solid wood for the shelves, rather than particle board? Would anything else have to change?
I'm following this plan right now. Using 3/4 inch plywood
amazing i want to make one
what do ypou have across the back inside for support on the shelves?
I used a 1x2 to support and hold the shelf
Darn the music
❤❤❤
How in the world are not all your 1x2 splitting with those pocket holes?
I’m a skilled man….
You couldn't wait on that two by fours it's like living in a house with one by one you're putting weight in there
Great video but could you post your cut list? I couldn’t hear/understand what you said on your measurements. Thank you!
At 2:28 you say that you are setting the shelf facia back 3-5/8 but if you set it back that fat what are you attaching it to?
Without the sound, it is bearable.
I couldn't see your materials at the end of the video is there a link where can see all your measurements and material items?
I was going to say the same thing. I tried to pause it and take a pic over the curser but that wont work.
Drag down on the video slowly the links will disappear
QUESTION: At around the 2:30 mark the shelf supports are being built.
It looks like a
1x4 is placed on the inside corners.
Yes? And what about the back and side shelf supports? I don’t see any.
Approximately how much did you spend in build material? This is exactly what my family needs! Thanks for the vid!
Coty Thompson
I spent about $120 if I remember correctly. I could be done cheaper with more pine being used instead of poplar.
@@affordablebackyardprojects6619 awesome! Thanks!
Do you have exact plans
Did I miss something ? The inside front portion (3:10 part of the video) looks like it has a 1x4 attached. Is that correct?
Will you have written plans. I'd be willing to purchase them.
I don’t have a table saw. Is it basically a requirement for this project?
I have been looking all over the internet for plans for a kitchen pantry and this is the best thing I've seen! I might have missed you saying it, but what are the final dimensions?
Thank you!
It is 4’ wide by 7’ tall
I realize this video is 3yrs old, but considering prices today, could you give an estimate of what I would pay for someone to build something similar for my house? I don't need the shelves in the doors. Just a basic pantry.
Quick questions I do not know anything about wood work or shelf making but wanted to get into it and make a pantry closet for my mom, what would be an easy/cheap way to cut the wood?
A circular saw or jigsaw will be your easiest/cheapest way to make just about all cuts. You won’t get perfect strait cuts without a table or miter saw, but you can do almost everything with a circular saw or jig saw.
These two are really good and not too expensive. Really good quality!

If i want to stain the inside and out, at what stage would you recommend doing that?
Is there written instructions for this?
❤
Can I have a list of materials for this project please?
Silly question, or not….. stated 1x2 is that real dimension or actually 3/4 x 1 1/2”. Stated 1 x 4 poplar, actual or unfinished dimension? Matters if I am cutting down larger material for project. Thanks.
agreed, it appears like all his lumber came from the box store and not rough cut, so i cut all my rough cut ash to actual board dimensions and not nominal. if my math is correct from the cuts he lists in the video his frame should be about 24 1/8" x 47 7/8" suggesting actual dimensional lumber that would match up with his plywood sizing. The boards listed should measure out to actually be 1"= 3/4", 4"=3 1/2", 2"= 1 1/2", 3"= 2 1/2", for people who don't know already.
Can you put the measurements and stuff in the comments like you did at the end of the video please so I can take a screen shot of it?
It won’t let me add a picture in the comments.
Rad!
Hey what are the final dimensions for this project?
whoa, whoa, whoa...wait a second....what was that first measurement again?
What is the piece of wood you added to attach the shelf braces to?
So the board that are inside and upright, did you drill those in or did you just use them to get 3 5/8 in inset
Used them for the 3 5/8 inset
How can I get plans or cut list
I’m new to woodworking and my daughter likes this
I don’t have plans other than the video itself, I have a cut list at the end.
Hello I hope you see this and reply. I am planning on making this next weekend 3/27/21. However It's for my kitchen and I have height restrictions to deal with. 64" height to be exact. I was thinking 61" since you have the 7'1". There is obviously a reason for that 1". I have never made anything from scratch and this will be my first. I got a circular saw just in case I need to trim anything. I was hoping to have low's or home depot do all the cutting for me. The difference in measurements is what's killing me trying to figure out. Being 5' instead of 7' I'll have less shelves as well. Any help would be appreciated with measurement difference. Thank you. I love your video and I also subscribed and made sure you use your link for the Swanson speed square. My oldest son will be helping me put it together as well.
Yes the extra inch and was for a certain height of shelves I was trying to achieve. Honestly any height will do. You just have to adjust the height of the shelves. The height really doesn’t matter but the width does to keep from using extra material or having excess. But it should be easy to do, you got this 👍🏻
@@affordablebackyardprojects6619 Well Height wise it will be 5' So I need to decide and figure out how many shelves I "can" do and how far apart I want them. I'm figuring with only 5' most likely(including bottom shelf) at most 4 maybe 5 shelves depending on how far apart. Length I plan on 48". It's a townhouse so I can't make it too long but I do need length. Plus most of the materiel is that length already. Less cutting to do. Also with 5' It'll be one door instead of 4. so I also have to figure that out as well. With 48 length that'll be fun. I suspend I'll be trimming more with the doors. When It's done, I'll post a pic in the comments.
I noticed you added a second larger angle brace on the bottom as well as another 1x2 between that brace and frame (seen best at 2:13). Did you do that to the top as well?
Zach Eastin No I just added that for the bottom because I was putting heavy objects in the bottoms shelf and it was more for support for the bottom shelf than bracing for the whole thing.
@@affordablebackyardprojects6619 Okay cool! And with all of those cans in the side doors are those nice looking hinges still doing the job?
Am I the only one that missed the step, showing the piece you're attaching the selves to?
Did you use 1/2 inch plywood for everything?
1/4”. There is a list at the end of the video for materials.
You made it look like the shelves are only supported in the front?!
It’s supported by pocket screws and glue so it’s more than enough support for food. If it was a bookshelf than yes you would be right. Thanks!
Thanks so much for your response!
Just out of curiosity: what was the total cost of the materials for you to build this awesome pantry?
Well it was about a year ago (pre-Covid) so prices of lumber were cheaper. At the time I think it cost about $125. But it would be a little more now.

Hi I’m a bit confused on the shelf supports at around the 2:30
Mark. Is the a 1x4 on the inside corners? Where are the side and back supports for the shelf’s?
Thanks
The 2 side trims in front; are they 3 inches? Also, is there a trim inside the shelves and are they 3 inches
antonio balladares 3.5 inches, I used a 1x4
@@affordablebackyardprojects6619 thank you for the quick reply. You need to redo this with really good step by step instructions of all the steps especially the doors, you have a lot of followers who want that. Great video and project. Again, thank you and God bless you.
Thank you! Yes I will definitely do that!
Great video do you have a parts list?
At the end of the video is the parts list.
@@affordablebackyardprojects6619 the link is blocking some of the parts list haha. Can you repost or send the parts list please 😁
@@andrewc3287 looks like it's in the description now too
-1”x2”x8’= 10.

-1”x4”x8’ poplar board=10 (outside front trim and door trim)

-3/4”x2’x4’ particle board =5 (shelves)
-1” finishing nails
-1” 1/2 pocket screws.
The door frame is 2x4 so it's only 3.5 inches deep before the shelves. How can the door shut is you're using 3.5 inch door shelves plus the thickness of the door itself. This video skips way too many steps.
The measurements for the shelves I. The video gives the proper distance so you can have enough room to shut the door and still be able to use the depth of the shelves.
I appreciate the feedback and I can see how It could be a little confusing but I gave the measurements In the video. Good thought!
What did you use to fasten the bracers on
Pocket screws
Ok so I'm in the middle of building this. The only change I made was making the total height 6 feet 1 inch instead of 7 feet 1 inch. I need to figure out how long to cut the boards and door panels. I know side to side is the same but not sure of the height.
Hey I’m about to give this a try but I had a question. It says “1”x4”x8’ poplar board = 10 does that mean you bought 10 of those?
Yes 10 of them
Affordable Backyard Woodworking great thanks! If I get stuck I’ll reply back!
Where did you get the plans from?
projectink
I didn’t have plans, I just made it from an idea I saw online.
"And lay them on the ground, get them nice and level" - what strange dimension do you live in, if your garage floor is anything close to level?!
I think it's super weird that yours isn't level lol
Turned out pretty damn good though didn't it?
550 cord, must be a vet :)
Haha yea, 5 years in the Marine Corp.
Do you have plans for this?
Just the video. I didn’t have plans. I just saw a picture of one and built it the same
@@affordablebackyardprojects6619 do you have a list, the video pop up blocked it at the end
Dimensions?
I have them all detailed in the video but it’s 4’ wide, 6’6” tall
I think you need to edit this video and add some details. The side trims are not 1x4. The math doesn't add up. I had to use the 1x3s and now have to improvise. Zoom in, tell us what size you're using. When you start talking about the shelves we can't see what you're doing.
Thanks for the input!
Music Please?
It’s called Simple on the iPhone iMovie maker.
@@affordablebackyardprojects6619 Thanks, just found an email about this reply today!
way way too much number calling...your measurements will be different then ours. when you're calling out your measurements it's very distracting but it was a great build
Trying to make this was extremely frustrating. You skipped steps and didnt explain very well what you were doing. And I believe you confused what size wood you were using in some parts.
I don’t, just the video
That looks kind of flimsy
It’s not.
You skipped so many steps in explaining
Sorry, I didn’t realize it seemed that way. I never had any negative feedback about this particular video being difficult but do appreciate the good criticism. It is helpful!
İnches 😒
Haha sorry it’s the American way... but metric is easier when it comes to the math 🤷🏻♂️
