Very good summary Blind! I like the energy, hopefuly people will have this video suggested by youtube when the steam version go live, to check out the background of what's up with this suddenly popular dwarfy game. Finally! Some FRESH BLOOD!
Eve was one of the first single shard games that focused on realistic economy. WoW had a player driven economy but with it's multiple shards it was fairly easy to manipulate the markets, and the devs had to police this. Eve in it's day was ground breaking, these days other games have taken their ideas and expanded on them add prettier graphics. However my first time playing Eve it made me wonder why all games weren't like this, and slowly they all are becoming like it.

My start with this happened many moons ago. Probably about 2011-2012. At first I wasn't in the mood to learn to left it. Then was having a shitty day so just say down and tried to learn it. Was good. Then found the only book I could find on it. The book was great and gave you step by step. I would read it while at work and it helped so much. I grew to love it. I eventually fell out of love ONLY because once I'd get far into my fortress, the frames would drop so bad I couldn't play anymore. It was the 32bit version. Never thought a 64bit version would appear to shelved it. Years later I hear about this release happening and mention my story. Someone pointed out the 64bit version has been available for years. I was shocked. Looked back at my profiles and appears shortly after I stopped playing they released the 64bit version. I should go back and play it, I loved it. Even though I'm strapped for cash, I will be buying this on release regardless.

Really looking forward to the steam version. I played Dwarf fortress years ago and even am on the list of champions as a donator like forever ago it seems. But it's difficult to keep coming back to play DF due to it's insanely obtuse UI and control scheme and so on. From what i've seen regarding the premium version, it seems to keep all the complexity of the original game while helping to alleviate the ridiculous and absurdly complex UI of classic. I think I'm going to fall in love with the game all over again as there just isn't anything that exists today that can compete with the level of detail and depth of DF. Even Rimworld which i do like, is missing so much character and depth and randomness and so on that DF has. I honestly think Zach and Tarn are legends at this point, to keep doing this project for so many years purely off of donations is absolutely insane and I always wondered if they would even eventually break down and finally cave in to partnering and making a version of game with a more modern UI and it's finally happening! I dreamed of this moment 15+ years ago. Here is to hoping a whole new generation will fall in love with this game and inspire even more games in the future with a similar level of depth, I can only hope. So many modern games provide such shallow mechanics and the excuse is they don't want to overwhelm players or making learning curve too steep and so on and so forth but I've always thought it was BS as I think there is a large enough audience out there who can appreciate a lot of depth and complexity and layers upon layers of mechanics in a video game and I think if game dev's explored this more they would find there is a lot of us out there. And it's not like a game like dwarf fortress is unplayable by anyone who can't appreciate it's depth, you can play it from a shallow point of view, just doing whatever you want taking it as deep as you want and have your fun and if you one day decide you want to dive deeper you can, your not obligated to learn every single mechanic of DF to play it. And failing is part of the fun. Again I'm just hoping this version of the game inspires game dev's and people to want a little more complexity and depth to modern games as to be honest, new modern games are so stagnant these days as far as gameplay goes. Games like Ubisoft's games which I do find fun, is also frustrating as each new game that comes out is basically same mechanics and game play as all previous games with only minor tweaks and it's like, where is the new games, where is the games today that completely innovate and come up with new ideas and mechanics that doesn't exist yet. It's just not happening anymore, publishers have 0 interest in coming up with completely new ideas and it's super frustrating at times and difficult to enjoy most modern games beyond a small amount of game play hours because you realize it's so shallow. So many modern games I play, i find fun very early in game and then maybe 10 hours in I'm completely and utterly bored again as I know what it's all about and all the mystery and discovery is gone, and you know there isn't going to be any more interesting complex mechanics to learn later, you've seen it all, and now rest of game is just repeating what you already done and seen over and over again until completion. Modern games just lack the magic these days and maybe DF premium will help change that.
Im going to get the game, perhaps not to play it (will still) but because they earn it, being free for almost 20 years and asking nothing but donations, game is almost like a national treasure lol
@@BlindiRL well of course i will. I actually played it a bunch before, but that was years and years ago, i found it a bit difficult in certain areas, like making a military group and whatnot. Hopefully the steam version will make it more accessible, perhaps, we see. Only the ingame tutorial will help alot for beginners.
My problem with original dwarf fortress isn't necessarily the bad UI. As all the buttons are usually listed and I love the game enough to find them and slowly play. My problem is when dwarfs just stop doing what you think they should be doing and stand there and there is no, at least easy to access, explanation as to why (e.g. with gathering tasks). I have tried to wait and cancel and nothing happens. This is still technically UI but not the controls aspect of it. This has happened everytime I've tried to learn, to a new player like me it seems to be a game breaking bug but is probably something I could fix if I was directed to the right spot in game at the time
Lets see, Roam around massive generated world, check. Explore caves? Check. Fight mobs? check. Craft items? check, Build a fort? Check. Have a party of friends and slay a dragon? Check.
Man, this is so surreal to me. I've been playing off and on since... Was 0.40 the last release before z levels were added? Regardless, I discovered the game sometime around then, and I've been watching it grow ever since. I never expected to see such a drastic overhaul to the UI.
It will be a lot less necessary, since Steam has a lot of similar functionality (that is, auto-installing mods) so I wouldn't be surprised if it falls out of favor.
Tarn and Zach Adams will be multi millionaires in less than 16 days. Could not happen to better people. They deserve it.

Ernst McGamer likes Dwarf Fortress for its complex emergent gameplay.
Im going to get the game, perhaps not to play it (will still) but because they earn it, being free for almost 20 years and asking nothing but donations, game is almost like a national treasure lol
Well I hope you mess about with it at least a bit. Legends is quite accessible.
@@todowhat a lot of the menus were reworked, military too, a lot more clearer, please give it a try, even for the sake of me haha
@@sadiwanv716 they did? Nice! Then it should be more of a better experience than the last time i tried. Cool stuff
wait thats so true! the original battle royale game was hunger games servers on minecraft LOL
:P
Let's goooooo
YEAAA
My problem with original dwarf fortress isn't necessarily the bad UI. As all the buttons are usually listed and I love the game enough to find them and slowly play. My problem is when dwarfs just stop doing what you think they should be doing and stand there and there is no, at least easy to access, explanation as to why (e.g. with gathering tasks). I have tried to wait and cancel and nothing happens.
This is still technically UI but not the controls aspect of it.
This has happened everytime I've tried to learn, to a new player like me it seems to be a game breaking bug but is probably something I could fix if I was directed to the right spot in game at the time
Yea explaining issues with fort layout and setup is a huge issue.
In what reality can you do any of the things your able to do in Adventure Mode that you can do in MC.
Lets see, Roam around massive generated world, check. Explore caves? Check. Fight mobs? check. Craft items? check, Build a fort? Check. Have a party of friends and slay a dragon? Check.
Oh, I didn't realise DF premium was this close around the corner
I know iam not alone that a dream game of mine is exactly minecraft dwarf fortress.

Its been awhile then :D
Nice! Will Steam version get every features of classic version at launch (except adventure mod)?
Yep! Classic will also be missing adventure for a version as its getting the same features as premium. sans graphics and audio.
Nice, i made the like number 420. Cheers!
Smoke em if you got em.
Man, this is so surreal to me. I've been playing off and on since... Was 0.40 the last release before z levels were added? Regardless, I discovered the game sometime around then, and I've been watching it grow ever since. I never expected to see such a drastic overhaul to the UI.
I know right, this stuff has always been on the roadmap but I never thought I'd actually see the day.

Slaves to armok 1 playthrough when?
Uhhh
i'm curious to see how or if th LNP will update/upgrade along with the new DF classic release
It will be upgraded but I hope the vast majority of old players move away from it.
It will be a lot less necessary, since Steam has a lot of similar functionality (that is, auto-installing mods) so I wouldn't be surprised if it falls out of favor.
how dorf dig down

16 days left till the official release of the graphics update.
And I can't wait.
Commenting for engagement.

Well... there goes a few hundred hours straight from the bat...
Yep.. Lost to pixels indeed.
Hey hey people.
Will the game have other languages available?
Unfortunately its not possible for the game to ever receive a full translation.
I want to throw more money at this games. December 14th won't come fast enough.
you mean 6th?
wait so we could play the free version with mouse after the steam version launch?
Yes, and add a tileset. Dwarf fortress is a free game. The premium game is just a optional DLC in reality.
