I wish there was a button to quickly scroll through your dwarves without changing the tabs so you can compare. This game really needs menus with memory, so you don't have to scroll to the bottom of the creature list every time you want to see what's attacking you , for example
The steam edition is a quantum leap, but there's so much more optimization that could be done. I'm hoping that the games modding capacity extends to the UI so the community can implement some way better stuff. I'm grateful to have everything in the new UI, but it's also a bit funny how unintuitive or oddly implemented some of it is.

When I first got into Dwarf Fortress years ago, the thoughts and feelings of Dwarves was one of the gameplay mechanics that I was most fascinated by. It's incredible just how much detail is tracked for every character.
These solo style videos are great, thank you. I bet they get repeat views because as your collection grows I'm sure I'll be watching them more than once.
This one was great, I'd consider it a short tutorial just because it's going over a very specific feature as quickly as you probably could. I like learning more about the storytelling aspects from DF as well, so better understanding how to gleam those is great :)
I love this tutorial, it really highlights the difference between DF and other colony sims. It's kind of like the game has a healthy dose of "the Sims" thrown in, with needs and personalities, dreams, friends/family relations, etc.
Great video, the pace was perfect and a video this long for this topic is great, could I suggest a short video on hunting and the processing of non slaughtered animals?
Thank you very much for your videos. I missed Dwarf Fortress the first time around and am playing it for the first time on Steam. I can now see where many modern games get their influence. Anyhow, there is so much here and it can be a little overwhelming, but your videos are really helping me a ton. Again, thank you for taking the time to make these videos..
I had a character in Legends mode that caught my eye, a female Dwarf, we'll call her Kulot. Kulot was born in a small hamlet, a location between the Mountainhome and a human outpost. She became childhood friends with a human man and a dwarf man. As she got older, she became a Ranger and married the human man, though a year after, Kulot was kidnapped by a Night Horror. After ten months of imprisonment, she was transformed into a Night Horror Bride. Shortly after, she attacked her former village, killing most of the people, including her former husband. Kulot's other dwarf friend, who had previously been a cook, tracked her back to the Night Horror lair and struck her down, bleeding out from his wounds a few hours later.
Got back into the game thanks to the Steam release like many others and I've been struggling to connect with a save. This video has massively helped me to take my time and learn about the characters. It's such a niche thing for any other game but it's just one of the things that makes this game so special, thank you for highlighting it!
Loved all these tutorials. I just started getting into DF, but I could immediately tell this is one of those games I'm gonna sink hundreds of hours into.
I would personally consider it being a quick tutorial. A lot of the longer tutorials I see they go too far off and start doing other stuff. This tutorial was straight to the point and went through the character sheet and explained things well without going too far off the topic. It just is not a short topic to go over.
Hi Blind! In the original version we have indicators for where the characters are taking off so I think that for this new version it would be interesting for the character sprites to change (left/right) according to their orientation. What do you think?
Don´t mind the longer format at all! It suits the subject. Really appreciate you going over how the different traits, preferences and values affect the daily life of a dwarf. Makes me more interested in reading the descriptions now. Think I'm gonna start nicknaming dwarves based on their traits and see if they get up to anything special (nicknames because the dwarven names are a bit obtuse and hard to remember). Maybe make up some custom job titles too. Would be nice to have custom labour assignments instead of "categories" so you could assign labour to each dwarf according to their needs and preferences. But that would probably get kinda painful after having more than 50 dwarves hehe.
While the length of this video may throw some folks off, it was really interesting to get an in-depth narrative of what makes one dwarf unique compared to their brethren. It really shone a light on how deep a player can go if they desire in pleasing the denizens who may very well build the next Khazad-dûm.

what do you mean by "keeping track" of your dwarves ? there is no need to micromanage everything, just keep them happy (prepare lot of meals, prepare lot of drinks, cups/mugs, tavern, a bedroom for each dwarf and so on) , they are smart enough to do their own job by themselves (unless you need something particular done)... with a manager, works are queued automatically so you can do more interesting things like expanding your fortress and organizing your military squads, building defenses and so on... just focus on unhappy dwarves, read their thoughts, their needs, try to fulfill them because they could mean trouble in the near future... my fortress is capped at 100 dwarves and it works like a charm, year after year...
