Really wish they had kept Helga over Gertie, but Gerald is a welcome addition! He looks fun, I like his sports-themed moveset.
Gerald is cool to see, but I agree that Helga is a better representative as a Hey Arnold! fighter.

I find it kinda baffling, that the real protagonists of the Show, Arnold and Helga are excluded.

I’m hoping this reveal means they have more stuff coming we don’t know about. It’d be weird for them to reveal basically all newcomers a month away from release. Unless the marketing is really that wack.
I hope so since the retails description says the roster is "Bigger and better than ever" which is a complete lie if there are 11 cuts since the base roster is the same size as the last game with all post launch characters (not counting season pass) the marketing is THAT bad and dishonest
@@angryjadengamerreviews2827 Yeah, and it's even worse if you consider the reveal trailer had NASB1 footage with over half of those cut veterans. If they were not gonna be in 2, including them there was just a dick move.
Can we just talk about the fact that Powdered Toast Man and Friggin' Donut Boy (Hugh Neutron) have been supposedly cut from the game?
Guess we'll have to send the devs to The Shadow Realm now...

The only reason I can think of for Helga being cut is maybe Nickelodeon was really pushing for Gerald and Gertie and either thought Helga wasn't important enough, or they didn't give the devs enough time to give Helga a new model and moveset. Still, Gerald looks like a lot of fun to play as.
It was basically stated outright that Nick pushed for Gertie - idk if that’s because they liked the hype from the meme characters in NASB 1 specifically or if they are just pushing for more newcomers in general, but regardless, if Nick is putting hard lines for which newcomers get in, I’m not surprised we get a lot of cuts.

Now this is a Hey Arnold addition that makes a little more sense. After Arnold and Helga, Gerald is an ideal choice.
That being said it’s weird he’s here and not them, but I’m still excited to play him!

Honestly the most objective reason I can think of why Arnold isn't in the game is the lack of a reference for a recovery move Up specials are mandatory for a platform fighter and even though I only seen bit and pieces of HA I'm not sure if he did something to launch himself upwards
@@angryjadengamerreviews2827 As seen in the first game, they'll do whatever it takes to give a character an Up Special, no matter how bland or lame, so I doubt that is the reason why he's not in.

He looks good kinda disappointed his original voice didnt reprise the role.
Even though he did go through an episode about his voice changing due to growing up
the original voice actor can't do the voice anymore and they always used kids for the voices, there's probably a rule/law stating that kids aren't allowed to voice video game characters unless the game is an educational game or for preschool aged kids
@@terrysyvertson9205 technicall he could still do the puberty voice where is voice was deeper like tehy did when he was going through puberty.
Some voice acting can be modified to sound younger.
like in Teen Titans where they used the Justice League voice actor of Wally West to voice himself as Kid Flash in by slightly pitcing the voice up
welp, the leak was real, and so, the cut character decisions are going to anger almost everyone, just face it, why these developers are not allowed to include the four Ninja Turtles in one single game?

@@terrysyvertson9205 don't ever wish for that, they will be more angered than ever, because cutting characters for selling them back via extra money is worse than just cutting them off

Gerald using a bike is really nice. The Smash character on a motorcycle is unique.

Pacifist is just an excuse Arnold used his bat to beat up bad guys in the theatrical release of the original Hey Arnold movie from the early 2000s.
Personally, I don't think Arnold's head is the problem; other 3D have proven this isn't an issue. But I think the devs view Arnold mostly as a pacifist, and even so, I think they could make him a fighter the same way Villager, Isabelle, and Phoenix Wright are fighters. His dance repertoire and karate skills could come into play from "24 Hours to Live" and "Mugged", respectively.
Friendly reminder that Aang is a pacifist and he's a fighter in this game so that "pacifist" thing is complete BS.
On the plus side though I really liked your move set idea for Arnold (He could also have his boom box which was an item in the first game)
@@angryjadengamerreviews2827 I don't know. When it comes to Aang, it feels like a completely completely different situation compared to Arnold. Arnold didn't have to deal with the Fire Nation. Just real life. Aang fighting the fire nation despite being a pacifist makes more sense here.

If they can have Jenny's head always face towards the camera, they could definitely do the same for Arnold.
I agree and her model looks amazing in NASB not to mention Arnold was already a playable fighter in Super Brawl Universe (Although it's more like Street Fighter than Smash it has 2d gameplay with 3d graphics just like NASB and apparently there a part of the same series)
They referenced Ghost Bride?!?! Never would have expected that! I’m pretty sure the original voice of Gerald was for the entire original series. The Jungle Movie was his first changed! I can settle with Gerald. A proper rep new comer then just Grandma for me at least. Lol In an ideal roster world, Helga would still stay. And we would have both Arnold and Gerald.
I honestly thought it doesn't make sense if Gerald makes an addition apart from Arnold here, being a pacifist. Either that it would be swapped over with Dib though. 🤔

Gerald is definitely a cool pic... but I wish Helga were still in and Arnold was in as well. The devs seem confused.
They said they weren't apposed to adding those characters later.

First off, I just want to say, the fact that SPONGEBOB is in this game really invalidates your idea that Arnold would look too strange, because this is animation, and we're not doing the whole "Characters in 2D games have to face perfectly toward the direction they're walking in" anymore, in fact this was only a 2.5D problem, since pixel art games rarely did that. Characters usually faced 3/4 toward the camera, which characters usually do in TV. Between Super Mario Wonder, and Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2, I think game devs are finally realizing this mistake with 2.5D games. Arnold could definitely work in 2.5D.
As for the Gerald reveal, Gerald was never a favorite character of mine but his reveal made me smile more than I was expecting too. And this whole game has kind of done this for me, the first game reminded me of how much I loved Nickelodeon IP after having dismissed it as "that one channel I watched a lot before moving on to Cartoon Network in the 2000's" but no I still really love Nick, and seeing the references to the character just makes me happy and makes me want to go back to watch those shows again. Gerald looks fun and expressive, I'm looking forward to playing as him.
But I am still mad that he got in, Arnold is still not on, and Helga is almost certainly cut. Gerald would be the best third choice for this series, not the first choice next to a wild card pick. Hopefully this series can grow to a point where 3 to 4 Hey Arnold characters isn't asking for too much. I really don't understand the reasoning behind these cuts at all...

I know people are upset with the cuts, but imo the game looks 100x better than the original in terms of gameplay and visuals so I see this as an absolute win
I'm sorry but while the game is still gonna be great, the roster is a huge letdown. It's the same amount of characters in the last game and it's total BS for some of the cuts like Lincoln, CatDog and Helga should NOT have been cut. The fact that we still don't have all four of the Turtles which a lot of people wanted. The roster didn't build the original. It just took the same amount but replaced a lot.
Again I'm sure the game is still gonna be great regardless, but the cut characters was a poor choice on Ludocity's part. Especially since most of the cut characters were shown at the beginning of the announcement trailer. Lincoln and Leonardo were fighting in an updated version of Nigel's stage for eff's sake. In my eyes, the roster while having some great fan requested ones, feels like a step down from the first's roster.
@@knarrow0222 I agree. I was hoping for Lincoln and CatDog, and was disappointed when I found out they’re probably not in it. I do feel the roster is alright (for the most part), but the cuts will (justifiably) sour opinions
Also I’d say the rosters are about equal atm. I’ll need to see how each character plays before making that judgement

Gamemill is cutting half of the first game’s roster in half, which does not mean that all characters will be in it, like wow, I would rather keep playing the first game than touching this game. That’s just sad, Helga and Powdered Toast Man have been replaced by new characters, I would do that if I was gamemill
