The Vulture and the Little Girl, also known as The Struggling Girl, is a photograph by Kevin Carter that first appeared in The New York Times on 26 March 1993. It is a photograph of a frail famine-stricken boy, initially believed to be a girl,[1] who had collapsed in the foreground with a hooded vulture eyeing him from nearby.
Four months after being awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, Carter died of suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning on 27 July 1994 at age 33.

I think helping a child is more important than picture. Anyway he can help the child after taking photo. After all human life or anybody's life is more important than everything else. But the photographer is good person and cannot be trolled.

That is basically like asking the man who took the "falling man" photo if he did anything to stop 9/11. You can't just magically stop world hunger or nature itself, whether he helped the child or not. Obviously, there is nothing you can do but spread awareness with iconic images - you know, the thing he was hired to do. Rest in peace kevin, and rest in peace to the suffering children who he tried to save indirectly. I hope you are all at peace now.

There were thousands of babies here that were in the same exact position it’s selfish of you to ask why he didn’t help the child as noone would even be aware of situation if this photo was never taken. He was there with a group to feed them how much is expected???

As a photographer it was a greta shot dwpicting a great mesagae of Hunger in the poor but what's the difference if you didn't help her and let her die. I think its his fault and if i were there i would have helped her before even taking the photo and i think that woyld be ghe bigger message, yeah now some people will say then you won't get your shot but i think helping someone in desperate need doesn't need to be shown publically by taking a picture, maybe people wouldn't know that you helped her but deep inside you would be the best peraon and that can't be compared to any prize.

He was under strict orders to not interfere with famine victims as they were very vulnerable to disease, and even if he helped her anyway, he was surrounded by armed soldiers.

The child in the photograph, actually a boy, went onto live until the age of 14 but sadly died from a disease. He had already been identified by the feeding programme which the wristband he wears signifies. The photographer, Kevin Carter, brought it to the attention of the world the horrifying conditions that many, many children endured because of this photo the world reacted otherwise we would never have known. Sadly the comments and the nightmares Kevin Carter was subjected to because of his work led him to take his own life. It's time we let him rest in peace and than him for bringing the plight of these children to our attention. He would have seen thousands of children like this he did his job by showing the world what was happening so the world could help.

I’m sorry, but is this a movie clip or an actual interview? They seem to be acting. I understand how Kevin’s shoes may have been tied at the time of taking the photo given the legal restrictions which likely correlated to why he did not physically help the boy. I see many comments are more recent and forget that this is a past controversy and times have now changed. The world was in a different place. Do not forget that that in itself holds all sorts of valid meanings. People may whip Kevin with words, but the owners of those words never reached out to this awareness in Kevin’s place.

I understand why he took his own life.. finding out you're a coward is a hard one to deal with. Especially in a situation like this one. This story is similar to the afghan girl used by National Geographic, but worse. No offence but not all of us have the chance to go to Sudan and give a hand. Of course you won't be able to save everyone.. You're winning prices over a dying person.. He could've given her a good life just like that. Don't tell me that his privileged ass did not have what it takes to do so. He would have made even more money by donations while doing the right thing and he could've had such a beautiful friend in life. Talented photographer my ass, you need character first. That foreclosed western mentality of do not intervene with wildlife got on my nerves since day one. By doing useless things on this earth, you will get a price. By taking action, you will be awarded for eternity. You are never just an observer, you are always a player. When it is your turn, you gotta play. This is a perfect example what you shouldn't be in life.

The child was saved. humanitarian aid was sent there because of the photo he was advised strictly not to interfere in the situation because a deadly disease and war was happening and because of him people got to know about the situation there and henced action was taken and humanitarian aid was sent before demonizing and judging others why don't you look at yourself first ?

@@Seoyeaji921he supposedly waited for the bird to open up its wings for a cooler shot but it didn't so he kept shooting before scaring it off. The boy died due to disease by about 2007.
Some good comes from exploitation. Others would've thought of saving the child first but that wouldn't get aid from photos. It's why the ethics of ot are debated lol.
