I feel even better passing a P1P1 Timeless Lotus today after watching this. The 4th Rootwalla should have replaced that card instead of a land IMO. But I'm happy you gave it a try. Sweet deck, all in all!
Drafting 5C has always been intimidating to me, so I really enjoyed listening to your thought process there. Definitely a lot of tips for my own draft here!
Lovin this draft and this set to draft. I had a similar build in my sealed prerelease with Jodah and just threw all the legends I opened into it and cascaded in for the win
"It was definitely the Timeless Lotus that did all that work" :) Classic LSV :) EDIT: LSV predicted he would draw Timeless Lotus instead of needed Plains. This is insane levels of witchcraft powers, imho ;)
I have found all the fixing that doesnt come with land type to be worse than you think, the slimefoot survey has been amazing on the other hand, gives you the nice finishing sequence of getting the lands then double spelling with outrider+cheap removal for the next turn, so hard to lose with that set, also the set is mana intensive but not past 5 mana usually
I dont think timeless lotus was in any way bad in your deck, I think your deck was just so much better than the decks you played against that you never had a chance to use it. In any sort of longer game, lotus + codex + rootwalla's seems super good.
So far I've played a bunch of 5-colour piles (pick lands like they were Kaldheim snow duals, then pick up anything worthwhile on the wheel) and found good success, especially with the sojourner. Being a (mostly) 4-mana 4/6 works wonders for stabilizing, especially in multiples. Shore Up, Tail Swipe and Urborg Reposession are all fantastic pickups. I also like having at least 1 Choking Miasma in the deck; Go-wide Heroic Charge strategies have been very popular and miasma is like a 3 mana 'i win' against those decks
The opponent had a single black available, meaning they could activate Evolved Sleeper's first ability a second time in response, resulting in LSV getting 2-for-1'd. In retrospect this would have been an OK result, given how scary Evolved Sleeper is, but that was presumably the reasoning.
@@JV-jz6sj The likely best line without knowing the opponent's hand would be to main-phase the Tail Swipe. This would have been bad against either Tribute to Urborg or Battle-Rage Blessing. Given that both were played on subsequent turns, this likely would not have worked out. But the parent comment isn't talking about it. The parent comment is talking about an end step Tail Swipe (in response), which means both creatures would have died. That may still have been the correct play, but it's less obvious, since LSV may get a better window later or draw a better answer.
@@JPuree Thx for explaining, I see how bad tail swiping wouldve been now, with the opponent having tribute in hand. LSV did want to go for it btw, but thought the opponent could make it a 3/3 for 2 mana right away. And you mention activating the cards first ability a second time in response? I dont understand that part. He can only use that once, then it permanently becomes a 2/2.
@@JV-jz6sj Nothing about Evolved Sleeper prevents one from activating the first ability multiple times - there's just usually not much reason to. Stack can go something like: 1) Evolved Sleeper becomes a Human Cleric with base power and toughness 2/2 2) Tail Swipe cast in response to 1) 3) Evolved Sleeper becomes a Human Cleric with base power and toughness 2/2 in response to 2) which means Evolved Sleeper would be a 2/2 when they fight, and both creatures would die.
A divination is still a divination, and I think the emphasis on 3+ color decks slows the format a little bit, so espionage gets you gas and possibly helps find your off color lands. I have managed to play some really fast boros/izzet decks, so its definitely a gamble to do nothing on turn 3/5.
LSV is great, limited is great, but the issue with Bronze and Silver players on MTGA is just that most are really.. bad at the game. (Probably new players, not their fault)
Can’t bring myself to watch/play MTG on Arena. The card animations are silly, the timer is not how mtg should be played, and the economy is a mess. I wish these guys would post some mtgo drafts. The competition would be much closer to their level.
Having no time to cast the timeless lotus is some kind of metaphor for something surely.
Something something 5 mana ramp spells.
In limited it's called the useless lotus...
@@hassanabbas7051 I think it's also pretty useless in constructed in most cases. You need something to untap it right away to make it worth it. . .
It's actually an oxymoron but I understand what you're getting at.
48:25 LSV: "I don't care that much about drawing a card"
Is everything ok LSV?
Once again, super happy to see LSV draft a new set! Always a great way to learn some things for my own drafts.
God that Evolved Sleeper misplay was so tragic
First game I've seen LSV fumble so hard.
Came here to say this
Timeless Lotus is such a well named card. It truely is timeless! ...as in there seems to never be a time to play it
More like Untimely Lotus 🤡
Hoorlon minotaur is timeless better
@@claudiobaratti1343 Hey Hurloon minotaur had a time! ...about 30 years ago
@@Junglej0hn and still better than timeless lotus

@9:45 LSV was real proud of that "Nael in the coffin" pun 😅
I mean, he is a dad.
Drafting 5C has always been intimidating to me, so I really enjoyed listening to your thought process there. Definitely a lot of tips for my own draft here!
LSV's love for rootwallas fills my heart the same way it constantly fills his hand with rootwallas
Really nice to see LSV draft this set and explain his move. Excellent!
LSV: I don’t think they could come back, even if they had a wrath
Me: …but they did have a Raff
55:40 for Timeless Timeless lotus

once you play enough magic you seem to know, deep in your soul somewhere, that there is a MTG god there to punish you for it
LSV hittin' the DMU - you love to see it!
At 36:00 you mention drafting more on MTGO due to it having best of three. Arena has best of three human drafts as well now. Did one last week.
I “liked” immediately upon that “Nael in the coffin” joke.
More LSV limited content!! Thanks for the video :D
Calling shadow prophecy “Dig through time” is uniquely funny coming from LSV

"No good way to use Ivy" he said, when there's a strength of the coalition in the same pack... That combination has won me 2 drafts already...

Thanks for sharing your experience. I haven't drafted yet but your impressions confirm my suspicions just based off of some sealed.
It was perhaps not the most successful run, but it had good puns and a timely lotus draw callout to steal the win of viewer enjoyment. =)
Timeless Lotus for the win!
(You Naeled the puns too.)
at 42:01 he didn't have any black mana, so why couldn't you tail swipe in response? :3
8:54 Wow, that was a pretty amazing "ch". Is LSV trying to tell us about his secret German heritage?
At 43:50 why didnt you play the pixie and tail swipe the 4/4
His opponent could activate it again in response
Oh right didn't realize the open mana
I still think quitting there was a mistake, he still definitely had plays and wasn't necessarily dead yet
LSV: Talks in husky voice
Squidward: 'Oh, no. He's hooot!'
Liking the limited content
Why is this still the only draft video of the new set on this channel?
all 3 Rootwallas wheel pack 1. Its so good!
You feeling alright, Luis? you sound a little sick
The relic rock makes a little combo with Zar Ojanen
Haven't see him live on twitch for a month, is he moving to another platform or something?
His basement (where he streams from) flooded and he’s trying to get it all back up and running here soon.
@@jamesperez1810 that unfortunately, hope everything better soon.

Lotus completely warping the format around it. You hate to see it
lol @ “dig through time”
Timeless lotus was a Nael in the coffin in this deck.
What the fuck was up with all those last pick Rootwalas in pack one?
Surprised he's rating Espionage so lowly. I've been super impressed with that card

Why is this guy only in silver?
Am I the only one who has never been offered 5 colors because every other draft my 1st pack is the legendary tribal land 🤓
