Side Mount Float Pods / Hunt Deck... Big WIN or Epic FAIL?
In this video we are adding some stability and floatation to our 10ft Tracker Topper project Pocket Rocket. Nates Custom Boats and Accessories we nice enough to bring us to Illinois and custom fabricate a giant hunt deck and side mount float pods for this boat. Follow along as we show you how Nate and the good folks at Nates Custom Boats built these side mount float pods and hunt deck, and Send It Jon Boats give them a speed test on the water! As always don't forget to stick around to the end of the video for the haters corner and lot's of funny bloopers!

What a wild project. I was wondering what to do with my jon boat... and now I still don't know lol
The insanity has only just begun my friend. Back to the drawing board before we go full send again
Guy you're f****** videos are freaking awesome man send it because of guys like you that make life so much happier thank u .....send it
Thanks for the info. I got a 1032 i just got a 6.5 predator for. This series has helped me a lot.
After watching your video. I saw you had the right idea. Instead of side pontoons being an extension of the boat's rear sponson. Try moving the side pontoons, you made up to the mid of the boat. Then stretch the height up to match the Gunwhale. Then straight down to match the bottom natural angle or waterline. Whichever you prefer.
You will find you don't need more than 2 feet long to greatly increase the stability. if you put an angled draft in the front of each pontoon to meet the boat. You will find there will be a lot less haul drag. Plus the location makes a great place to add a fishing pole side rack holder.
Great ideas, thanks for sharing. We will get back to work on these at some point soon.
I'm a Jon boat guy as well. I love mine, it's a 1442 with a Yamaha 20 horse 4 stroke. I'm probably going to get a surface drive or long tail just for something different. Great video!
Surface drives and longtails are both a lot of fun. I want to build a surface drive from scratch one day for the channel.
Another great presentation, learned a lot, having fun and laughing a lot watching it all the way through. best antidepressant ever(for me anyways). Thanks a lot, can't wait for the next one.
Thanks Robert. I learned a lot too from this build, and we have some more experimenting to do. I am really curious to see how this one is going to progress.
Can’t wait to see vid with that 670 on the little boat without side pods! Please keep this channel rolling it my favorite
The fun and insanity has only just begun my friend.... much more in store. I think we are going tweak the pods just a little and see what happens before we cut them off for good.
Great video and awesome breakdown of the boat an pod set up. Keep building and keep experimenting, keep up great work. Love videos like this ,
Thanks Jason, got many more experimental videos on the way.
Second video I’ve seen of yours and the popsicle sticks gave me an idea. Nice👊👍
Glad I could help. Pop sicle sticks worked better than expected.
DaMN, Hater's corner is turning into my favorite part of the video.
BTW, Stealing that unicorn line...
LoL yeah I figured the haters deserved at least a response from me before I delete their BS comments. But yes, unicorns always make great comebacks! Use it every chance you get.
Your the damn Scooter dude
With that eye roll. 😂
Don;t be jealous of my eye rolling skills, took me years to master it! Just have to practice a lot!😆
It made the boat look like Star Trek
LMAO, it does kind of look like something from star wars.
Sometimes things don't work the side pods was interesting but the extension was a success.
Thanks Ronald. I am not going to give up on them get. I think we have decided to modify them a little and give it one more try before cutting them off completely.
honestly always wanted to buy one of these smaller john boats. Cut it from front to back and weld on a channel 6-8 inches deep. 1 foot to a foot and half wide. Then in the back do exactly what yall did, but continue then channel. This idea I came up with for use in the crawfish/rice pounds here in Louisiana.
That could be really cool. It defiantly helps the smaller boat be more stable for sure.
@@SendItJonBoats I notice a similar problem that you mentioned, there isn't enough water for the prop. Now we are fighting rice straw as well. My idea is to have less water drag and allow more water to go through not around the vessel. Making it possible for the shaft can be shorter. We mostly only run (go-devils) a.k.a also mud motors like the one in the video.
basically turning it into a hybrid version of a pontoon boat yet keeping its agility of a johnboat.
@@evanlanginais Thats a good idea, could work great. Never know until you try it.
Found your channel yesterday while surfin looking for Fiberglas vids
Was happy to find a local to support
Love the channel
Thanks Thomas, glad to have you and appreciate you watching the videos. Many more fun and insane projects coming up soon!
Just a thought... What if you put the pods on the sides in the front of the boat, that way you get stability when sitting still or trolling fishing and when you get going up on plane they would be out of the water not causing any negative effects.
Kind of like those drag raging boats? Hmm that is an idea
hey man love your videos they have given me some ideas for my Jon Boat I have a 10 footer would you have any suggestion to set it up for catfishing and maybe add on float pods to it.
Get a bigger boat for catfishing, these 10 footers are so unstable.
🤣 I love your hator-aid corner bit! I think I’m going to have to do that on some of my videos...if I ever get to doing them again 😂 that would probably curb the comments if everyone did that 😂
LOL, you would think the haters corner would make the haters not want to comment, but it actualy brings them out of the wood work! Haters hate getting called out and not many UA-camrs are willing to talk smack about people these days because everyone is so sensitive and gets butt hurt over nothing. I am going to keep doing it because I love giving the haters a taste of their own medicine.
@@SendItJonBoats well, if nothing else else it’ll give me some entertaining way to deal with them 😂
Next time check out Bubbas Fabrication here in South Carolina! We work on all kinds of custom boats. Nate’s shop did a great job! But we are less of a drive!
I wonder if you made the bottom of the side float pods less edge and a bit more curved if it would get you on plain better.
Possible... only one way to find out.
Try taking the front of the side pods and carve them upwards like the front of boat not to the side. It will create another planning surface and keep the water going down and under the side pods and yes cut the tails off.
Already cut the tails off, ran it and it helped a lot. Going to do exactly like you and others have suggested and run them further forward and under cut so they force water under the boat.
Life is a learning experience.
Yes it is, but this one was fun, untill the part where I almost had to swim in very cold water! That would not have been fun.
Are you telling me that crackheads welding stuff together and sticking it on your boat DIDN'T work out? Amazing. I was thinking of something eerily similar to do to my boat, Hard pass on that now having watched this video. Thanks. You saved me a bunch of time and effort.
Sometimes I drink 11 redbulls at 3am and when I can smell the color 7 I come up with crazy ideas and we try them out, and of course post them on UA-cam so you guys can laugh at my crazy ideas LOL
@@SendItJonBoats Well like I said...I had the same idea so you're not alone. You just did it before I got around to it and I thank you for that.
I couldn’t tell but do you have a cav plate on your motor setup? If not that would be a get place to start to help hold the prop down. We have to use them on the long shaft mud motors we use.
That may be the next option if I can't get the crest of the wake to meet further forward. Who makes a good cavitation plate?
@@SendItJonBoats I started out with a basic and cheap cav plate from mud skipper. They bolt right on and should be a quick and cheap fix. You want the prop to be right the top of the water and that cav plate can be adjusted to help that. Watching your video I almost think a shorter shaft might be your ticket. Then you would be inside that wake and may not need that cav plate at all. I’m switching to a surface drive before next season. Long shafts are amazing but the rivers I run have to many twist and turns. Love the videos. I’ll be using all your tips and info on painting for my boat really soon.
@@quacklanyards9954 Im going to order that plate and see if that may help. I am willing to try anything to see what will happen at this point before I start cutting stuff off this boat.
Well, it looked like a good idea. LOL
If I listened to all the voices in my head, things would be on another level of insanity!
@@SendItJonBoats I'm sure... Keep up the great content. I love both of your channels.
@@numberonenole4590 Thanks bud.
Send it !!!
YEE YEE send it!!!!
Love to hear y’all go back and forth about e-motors vs mud motors😂😂😂
We fight like cusins!
@@SendItJonBoats y’all two are my favorite boat guys on here.
What you need is drop-down side pods on actuators. Drop them down when you are fishing and trolling and pull them back up when you're conning the boat at high speed.
Thats a dang good idea!
It's probably a stupid question I'm just wandering if you would put a long shaft outboard on a flat bottom with the side pods on would you experience the same issue taking on water I know you would have to do more modification and I do apologize for asking a question on something you built a year ago I have a 14 flat bottom I'm thinking about making it wider and putting float pods on
I have no clue on the outboard, I do not know much about outboards at all.
Well hell, at least it looked bad ass.
Yeah it did. I liked it with the big ol whale tail flipper pods on the back. Still got a few ideas to try, going to mod them a little bit and see what we can make work.
Great Video 😎
Thank you!
@@SendItJonBoats 😎👍
I run a predator 420, an Sps 85”shaft with an 8.5x8 prop on an alumacraft 1436 here in South Mississippi on the river. The haters either quit hatin’ when they try to follow me, or hate me even more. I’ve waved and eased on by plenty of stuck and broke $15-20k Alwelds while running 20 mph in 4 inches of water full of logs and stumps. Lol. Of course I went back to checked on ‘em and pulled several of them back to the boat ramp. I like my longtail. Ain’t a damn thing wrong with getting out in the shop with the boys and actually building an idea, trying it out, and improving on it. You only fail if you quit tryin’.
Yeah buddy, longtails are good machines. Sounds like you are giving yours a good workout! Heck yeah send it!
Yessir! I just found your channel from a post on Instagram. I like it!
@@jb3569 Awesome ! Glad to have you on the channel. Much more fun stuff to come!
I’m a welder/fabricator and was wondering if I build you a modification to try when you do it? I just don’t want to weld/glue to my boat and have to repaint it. It’s the kinda the same concept what’s a different design
I will be revisiting this project soon, I got a lot of good feedback from viewers and we are going to try some of thier suggestions.
Scooters be scootin'
Scooters man... I tell ya, unbelievable.
Awesome!!
Thanks Michael.
Do yall think float pods from beavertail would work fine with a surface drive kit from mudskipper
Side mounts: try making them the same height as the sides all together and taper them back towards the front.
I’ve got pods on my 14’ Jon boat and it’s great. I really want to beef up more side to side. Had some ideas off jet ski and seadoo.
Good idea, I got one more thing I am going to try next week and see if it works... if not I am cutting the side pods off because we have already wasted so much time with them, I need to get this boat rolling!
Agree with an angled bottom tapering upward on the bottom of the side pods. Thinking of giving the water a path to get past the boat without a sudden squared off hard edge. It is harder to fab, but fluid dynamics are important.
Kodibug loves your content she's doing it for entertaining purposes and im like hmm I like boats and I can build stuff
Thanks
Sweet build. What blade was being used on the skillsaw to cut the aluminum sheet
Regular ol wood cutting blade. Nothing special.
The deck would work good, but it needs to be filled with foam.
The floats on the side is a no go chief.
Oh, scooter really got ya mangina worked up lol 😆🤣😂
Don't be hatin on my mangina! Your just jealous my mangina is prettier than yours! LOL
No foam inside the pods or deck, foam is only for if you take on water and get swamped. The foam keeps the boat from sinking, it does not add additional floatation.
What’s the thickness of the aluminum for the hunt deck? I’m wanting to build something similar, but I’m not sure how thick it needs to be to not flex with a motor.
I've watched this video and Anthony's video where he tried float pods both a few times. Question; do you think that pods mounted forward on the hull and shaped differently would give you the "at speed" problems you experienced with the design you used?
I have been brainstorming a side pods design to add some more stability to my 14x32 jon boat.
Liking your vids, keep up the good work.
i had pontoons on my canoe with a 5 hp Briggs and Stratton outboard and i had some of the same problems and found if they were just at or above the water at speed i lost the drag\splash drawbacks and still had the same stability when standing and using the trolling motor so if it was mine i would move them up so they were flush with the deck
Good advice. We decided to make a few mods and test it out to see if it will work before I just cut them off completely.
I enjoy your channel, and info, was thinking side pods before i saw this, glad i watched it.Wondering about putting the pods 1/2? At the plane sweet spot?
I am still in the testing and modifying phase so I can't really give a good recommendation right now. But stay tuned because we are going to keep messing with them and see if they will work. The design I have right now is not doing so well.
The side pods might work better if the front of the side pods where slanted so as to make lift. ( slant them like the nose of the boat) It appears the only benefit as installed might be left and right stability while sitting still. Love the experimentation.
That was fun to watch. I'm wondering if those side pods would work if you raked them upwards in the front.
Also, have you done a video on that grab bar? (Installation etc.)
I had never heard of Haterade, but it's my new favorite.
I have a hemorrhoid named Scooter . . .
Hateraide is awesome. For the grab bar I just ripped a handle off a hand truck and bolted it in real quick so I had something to hold onto.
Just subscribed, great channel Jason from Snohomish.
Awesome! Thanks for the sub. I have no clue where Snohomish is. I guess I need to buy a globe.
What about the foam, if adding foam will make a difference. U know the marine floating foam adding inside of the aluminum add ons. I think it will work like a champ.
Putting foam does not make the boat float any better, it just helps the boat stay afloat if it takes on water.
Do you think if you had angled side float pods you wouldn't have the issue of water wanting to raise up and over into the boat? The front of the side pods (IMO) need to mimic the nose of the jon boat and help get the pods up and on top of the water instead of cutting into the water. Keep up with the fun tests!
Yes that may be what we have to do. We already made one modification to them, got to get them tested out so we can see if any more mods need to be done.
@@SendItJonBoats looking forward to seeing the changes before I start building my side pods.
@@mazaratee1548 Hopefully we get the motor parts in next week so I can do the build and get this thing back on the water.
I been wanting a little 10feetter to get in hard places also great video 👍👍
It is nice having a little boat to get into tight spots. Just so unstable to stand up in is my only complaint.
@@SendItJonBoats I have always sat so if I hit something under water I don't fall out
The pods are great! The higher horse power/extra weight was the downside. But gotta love the inspiration to try.
Thanks Moose, we still got some tinkering to do, but I think we are going to be able to make them work.
@@SendItJonBoats you keep tinkering, I’ll keep watching!
Not much water in Colorado, so I love this!

Yee Yee Geaux Tigers!!! 2 more week til football season!
Oh man… Pekin Illinois, there old mascot! Lol look it up if you don’t know
😂😂😂
What about keeping the side pods the same size but just moving them up level with the hunt deck so the wake goes under them? Just wondering
We made some mods, and still have some more testing to do.
Love the idea, maybe just float pods instead of the big ash hunt deck? Also the side pods I think maybe a little longer twards the front, not to the back and taller might keep the whole wake issue go away
I made some mods already, haven't had a good chance to test them out yet, but I will be back at it shortly. I got a few more ideas to try before I give up on these all together., and on of them was exactly like you said.
Were to mount the motor ? Nice job Thanks
Mounts like normal. Making some modifications this week, if they dont work the motor will have to go back further.
Ok I’m getting me a used 16 foot aluminum John boat needs a lot of work but it’s free what I’m going to do is make the boat wider deeper and jet drive with float pods. Hears my question is about how long do you think my float pods need to be
Get you some of those beavertail float pods I have on the 16 foot boat and slap them on there. They work great.
Lot of power on a small boat. Your hunt deck alone should be plenty of flotation. Did you eliminate your drain plug?
We left the drain plus, just cut out a little boxed area around it in the pod so water could drain. I forgot to show that part in the video. We shall see if she floats, I hope so. I think we are going to try to modify the side pods first before I just cut them off.
Just found your channel. I like it!!!!!
Likely too late but what about compounding the curve you have on the sides to the bottom as well. It may give some lift and no water in the boat. Maybe eliminate the rooster tails as well.
We are going to keep modifying them and see if we can get them to work. Already did one modification and going to see how that works.
I died when you talked about Christmas lol
LOL, santa is bringing me a grinder and some hateraide for christmas for sure! LOL
Hey man how reliable are those Predator motors compared to Honda?
I have been running them for a few years and never had any real issues with them. Big thing to remember is to run the carb out of gas every time you use it or else they will gum up like crazy. Change the oil regularly and they seem to work great.
@@SendItJonBoats Awesome thanks man!
Side floats halfway up and two feet off the rear with no back pod. Would that have been better?
No clue what the best thing to do is, we are still experimenting.
Try a Mercury 25 jet with a little more welding.
25 is too small... how about you buy me a 90 and I will slap it on there.
Yee Yee!!
Hellz yeah YEE YEE!
G'day great video mate
Thanks Murph!
Hey man I think it would have worked with a longer boat maybe a 16 but that would be a lot of floatation
Would if I could... we came up with the idea for this 10 foot boat so we are sticking with it and making adjustments to see what will work.
Your side mount pods will work if you get rid of the sharp angle off the stern. If you could invert the angle the opposite way your motor won't try to jump out of the water.
I wish I could send you a drawing.
Send it!!
Been getting a lot of good feedback from every one, and that is good advice. I think we are going to try a few easy tweaks and see what happens before hacking them off for good.
I'm just here to see if I can make it into the scooters section 🤘🤘🤘
😉 WE shall see if you make it to the scooter corner!
@@SendItJonBoats ight sounds good I'll be watching now haha
@@ipoopinwalmart5968 Better keep scooter in line or scooter will be in the haters corner! LOL
Can you make a jon boat jet boat. Now thats what i like to see.
Jets are not my area of expertise.... but apparently neither are side float pods LOL. I may do one in the future, but in the mean time, check out JDS outdoors, good guy with tons of good jet jon builds. I may have to do a build with him in the future.
@unclassified Probably
WOW!!! That was a HUGE investment in time and $.
Let me know if you're still interested in stability floats?
Yup, but we are still working on it to see if we can make it work.
You can add a plate on the skeg that is horizontal to keep the prop in the wayer
Tried that, it helped a little but not enough. May have to try out a cavitation plate.
Ive been trying to figure out how to do a jetski drivetrain in a jonboat without cutting holes in the boat and i think this would be the easiest way
meh it's just a jon boat, hack it up all you want, thats what makes them fun
I would try and do a tunnel haul on that hunting deck to channel more of the water towards the center and add outside floatation without going beyond the sides of the boat.
Just another idea in the stack of ideas. Lol
Thats a good idea, had a lot of good suggestions come in from everyone and I appreciate it. We made a quick and easy modification last week, will be testing it out this week and will have a video up on how it turned out.
@@SendItJonBoats awesome! Looking forward to it. I have a 12-32 and it needs some help too. Lol
Your videos are saving me a lot of money trying this all out on my own. Lol
Love the send it Jon boat shirt where can we get one
Working on getting merch store set up. I will do a video once it is up.
Good try though, enjoyed it. What's next?
Not 100% sure yet. I am considering hacking off the large part of the pods extending past the deck, adding some splash guards to keep water out of the boat, Send it and see what happens.
Geaux Tigers
Hell yeah GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!! SHA
So here's the deal!
You need more weight in the front of pocket rocker.....
Basically you need more flotation in the front.. that adds weight to keep the front in the water. Keeping the back higher.
Added side floats the the front....
If you’re planning to continue this project I know there is software out there to simulate aerodynamics of anything. Making models of what your interested in and tweaking them based on how it performs.
I responded on your other comment, I am interested.
@@SendItJonBoats So for air and most importantly water airshaper . Com will do simulations of models that you can send. They do cost which is the down side, like a good bit but there are other websites/applications capable of doing the same that’s just one of the top of my head. I’ll send some more.
@@SendItJonBoats ua-cam.com/video/O_DNDxCtI_I/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AirShaper that is for airshaper which does cost to have the simulation done, but they send an in-depth report to you at the end. Another really goodwebsite you can use for free (or subscribe which isn't needed i dont believe) is www.simscale.com/product/cfd/
You can sign up and the site will show you tutorials. Only down side is for the boat and idea you will need to create a 3d model. Im pretty sure you can find a 3d john boat model you can tweak though. To me simscale CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) like somthing you should look into.
@@jakobjackson8077 NICE! I am going to look into that. Thanks for the info.
Your side mount pods need to go further forward to infront of the planing area of the boat. This will prevent the overspray into the boat.
Lesson learned the hard way. I will be modifying them again soon.
Illinoissss
they shouldn't have put the extra letters in there if they didn't want me to say it.
I believe the side pods are a better option for trolling motor boats.
I agree, I had no issues with them below about 15mph, so trolling motor would be a perfect boat for side pods.
Move the side pods to the front of the boat, like a hydro race boat shape sort of.
That is future plans.... we going to make a drag racing boat later this year.
@@SendItJonBoats that my tournament baseboard plans lol. The way the boat rides the front will plane clearly the water, no resistance, and slim straight line. Know thin worries my isyou sent full width with minimal flotation. I was gonna nba do standard pods on the rear, but have a 1955 johnson 25hp with 12 gallon tank......
@@feellnfroggy Nice! I bet that boat will move pretty quick.
Man, I'm kinda disappointed those pods didn't work. Looked a lil crazy but kinda awesome at the same time.
Maybe instead of cutting them off all the way you cut em flush with the box?
I would love to modify them but they are slowing the boat down too much and putting too much water in the boat. I contemplated maybe cutting them back at a steeper angle.... ughhh I don't know what to do yet. Im going to marinate on it and get back to it in a few weeks.
@@SendItJonBoats definitely something to contemplate. Would be awesome if you didn't have to ditch them completely.

Pods where to far back. Move them forward even with the center of the boat, and add ccf foam inside them.
Updated my comment 09:10 am MTS Wed. 10/22/21
Yup, we are still working on modifying them slowly but surely.
Wonder how they’d act if the side pods were angled the opposite way, think intake on a F14. It would cause the water to be pushed down under the boat instead of digging in.
Hmmm... thats a idea. May have to try it out.
what about trying some short outriggers?
Might be an option in the future, we are still messing around with these
My dog Scooter objects to you using his name in referencing trash talkers. Ha ha
Tell your dog that he can be Super Scooter, and the haters can be just regular scooter.... that way we will know the difference.
Simply find the buoyancy force for the entire object (in other words, use its entire volume as Vs), then find the force of gravity pushing it down with the equation G = (mass of object)(9.81 meters/second2). If the force of buoyancy is greater than the force of gravity, the object will float.
I don't know what you just called me, but my head hurts... that is a lot of math. So your saying it will float? YEE YEE , lets send it!!!!!
@@SendItJonBoats Maths is hard.
It doesn't take much to get the 420s near 22hp, dropping all that weight by keeping the 420 will offset no pods and would be insane in speed and fun

Sucks but at least your getting it fixed.
Today I went to check on it as he told me a week ago and he hadn’t touched it yet, but, there was an air boat in the area where his tig welder is. The air boat wasn’t there three days ago. I asked him why and all he could do is apologize several times, took my boat home. Now in search for another shop that can weld aluminum. It has been there for two weeks.
@@SeanFischer1 man, I hate when that happens. I had that happen with a gun a few months back. I dropped the gun and the parts off together. (I ordered the parts beforehand because I knew it would take 8-12 weeks.)
He told me he'd have it ready in 2-3 days. I told him I would be back in a week.
I ended up not getting back for two weeks, due to a funeral. So, two weeks later, I walk in and he tells me he "hasn't been able to get to it". So I tell him I'll just take my piece and box of parts back. He starts hmm'n and haw'n about he'll get to it first thing in the morning. I can pick it up the next morning. I told him no, I'll pick it up now. After a heated exchange, he goes in the shop and comes back with the box. The case was sticking up out of the box and I reached over and pulled it out before he set the box down on the counter. It was empty. My gun was in pieces, in the bottom of the box, in a bunch of ziploc parts bags. My custom barrel however, was not in the box. He tries to tell me his "shop tech" put my part on the wrong gun and that gun has already been picked up. The truth of the matter; he had been working on my gun when one of his "regulars" walked in and saw my custom parts. He had the same gun and talked the guy into selling him my barrel and installing on his gun. He then called the machinist that had made the barrel and told him there was a defect in the part and a new one needed to be sent.
I about lost my sh!t. I ended up walking out of there with my box of stuff and enough cash to replace my barrel, and have another shop put it back together, plus travel cost. (I didn't rob the guy, he agreed to it. I think, just to shut me up and get me out of the shop.) The next morning I called the machinist and informed him what was going on. It turns out that he had put the job next in line, and was going to send the new part to the shop, free of charge. So on top of it all, he was also trying to rip off the machinist. I recieved the new part about a week later. I paid him for it, plus a little bonus. (Actually, the guy at the shop paid for it.)
I took all the pieces to a local guy that a friend recommended. This guy has a nice little shop out behind his house. He had me follow him back to the shop. Over the next 45 minutes or so he put it all back together. I sat there shoot'n the breeze and watched. He does great work, and will be getting all my business from now on.
Since he agreed to my first resolution, I decided not to get all litigious with the first guy. Enough of his customers have learned about what he pulled, that I think that's gonna be a big penalty to him. I was buying an airline ticket to deal with that guy, and he knew it.
Oh, well, I'm much happier with this new guy, and he's only an hours drive away. I'm good with how it worked out.
I used to work for a guy, his rule number one, prime directive when dealing with customers was: Say what you're going to do, and then, by god, make sure you do what you said. I think it's a good rule.
@@bob2161 I completely understand. I was talking with the owner on the phone and told him I came back to check on it and it hadn’t moved, yet, an air boat in the shop that was not there two days ago gets to go ahead of me and he replied yes. I then told him that’s not how business is done, first come first serve!
Now I am looking to get a tig welder so I can fix my boat or find someone else close by that can weld aluminum. For now I went and got some stainless steel hardware and big enough pieces of aluminum and marine silicone and bolt patches to my boat. If bolts spaced an inch or so apart can hold back steam, should hold back water from getting in my boat....right?
Could you have filled the pods with foam? Possibly better floatation and higher ride.
That has been tried before, it does not give it any extra floatation. The foam will only help if the pods take on water to keep it floating in stead of sinking,
Hey test and tune. That’s what it’s about.
Heck yeah man. We shall revive the pocket rocket and get her rolling again soon!
I'm a welder fabricator in the Florida area that's been doing modifications to small boats for 40 plus years, the front of your pods are shaped improperly the front of the pods should match the shape of the front and the bottom of the Jon boat. Do not taper them outward, you're scooping water which slows the boat down and makes the rear of the boat dig in. By reshaping the front of the pods properly you're actually gaining planning surface in the boat should go actually faster. On your mud drive you need to put a horizontal plane on it just in front of the prop so that when the boat is moving along the horizontal plane will operate parallel to the surface and keep the prop buried in the water you may have to experiment with different sizes. The horizontal plane is not parallel to the shaft, the back edge of it should actually be tilted up so it's acting like a dive plane on a sub. Add a bendable trim tab to the skeg below the mud drive unit and bend it so that at full power it matches the torque that the engine is producing.
Thanks for the info.
