I wouldn't say this was a flawless movie, but I would say it's the most perfect "fairytale" movie that I've ever seen. I'm not sure whether it's based on a book or something, but I think it is a great depiction of what a fairytale or child fantasy should be. This was a childhood favourite of mine.
I love Yvaine's theme. It's simple and elegant and yet powerfully emotionally evocative, ringing with tones of rising hope and subtle joy even before her triumphant "what do stars do? shine" scene.
The sound track of this music is what made me realize that I loved classical music. The music where the star flies over Lamia’s head hits me every time :)
I remember being in the movie teather watching this... and I was truly in awe with thhsi scene and its music .. the movie turned out to be a great fantasy movie .. but it's music is awesome
I remember not understanding the hype around Victoria. Yeah she’s pretty enough but imagine living with such a diva. Where there seriously no better dating options in that village?
That's often the case in these kinds of stories. Small village, makes it easy to pick out a so called prettiest girl. The "hype" in the book is more understandable, since book Victoria is a much nicer person than her film counterpart.
@Lauranna -- His fixation on her, and the implication that she has some degree of in-universe get-away-with-anything small town plot armor isn't unrealistic (unfortunately). But it also serves the purpose of showing us that pre-adventure!Tristan is foolish and naive in his idealism. Socially oblivious enough to think movie!Victoria's behaviour towards him is a reflection on his worth, or yet lack thereof from having not yet 'earned' better treatment by proving himself. Rather than her own childish self-absorption, and mankind's general tendency to regard others' value as people as being based on their financial status.
She knew that he would have been killed. She didn't want him to have type of life where all he thinks about is where the next asssaniation attempt will come from.
Wouldn't that be some shit that Tristan tells Yvette "LOL, thanks for the adventure. I'm still marrying that other broad. I'm gonna use this candle to get back home - derp" Then he never finds his mom, becomes super lame (and not king) with at least 5 or 10 children, where lil Viccy then goes to Humphrey, marries him cause she's a hussy like that. Then Tristan goes to fight Humphrey, until at the end of the fight, they both fall in love with each other, and Viccy gets super jealous. Meanwhile, Yvete find her way back to "home," and gets super pissed off that she she decided to kamakaze Tristan's home with an explosion the force of a thousand Michael Bays. Tristan and Homphrey wasn't able to survive, but Yvete is now happy with her revenge and falls in love with Viccy. They pretend to be queens of the land, which they aren't, and Viccy keeps asking Yvete how to be immortal, making Yvete wanting to go home and repeate the process of Michael Baying her home too. The end. :(

Yes, it's based on the book "stardust" by Neil Gaiman. A great read, I think even better than the film!
I agree. This right here is a classic adventure and magic tale. No mucking about on the story and character too much, but a great balance.
Wholeheartedly agree. The main characters are, just like the two from the princess bride, really likeable.

I agree this scene is the best scene in this movie.
This movie is much more unpredictable than most of the crappy fantasy movies.
And this is why I liked
Ok

underrated movie, it's not the best movie in the world, but it deserves more. It even has Ricky Gervais.

@ffahmie yea it's really cool. :) Thnks
Never knew this was sienna miller
ok, but why did the stone fly lightyears away?
The stone was flying from Stormhold, which is a magical kingdom and the stars are different there, not lightyears away, only far away.
Why didn't Tristan mother give Tristan to her family stormhold ?
Because he would have ended up dead, stupid
Like that ditchwater sal would let her have couple day offs to do that...
He would have been killed
She knew that he would have been killed. She didn't want him to have type of life where all he thinks about is where the next asssaniation attempt will come from.
Because her seven brothers would look upon him as a competitor.
