This is very much like Scientology. Fair game is no joke. This is heart breaking. They’re so brave for speaking out.
Aleister Crowley, who had a huge influence on L Ron Hubbard and the creation of scientology and many other modern cults, was raised in the Plymouth Brethren Church so there is a direct link. The belief systems are very different of course but the mechanisms of control are very similar.
Richard and Sheryl have an excellent podcast - Get A Life Podcast - where weekly they interview ex members and share about the corruption within the group
I left this cult over 50 years ago and have certainly made a good life for myself. However my life has been affected over the years.
I was an only child and my father had passed away before I left and from when I ran away I didn’t have a relationship with my mother from the time I left until she passed away over 30 years later. She missed her only child’s wedding. She missed any sort of relationship with my kids her only grandchildren. Then 11 years after she passed away i heard she tried to leave but was prevented.
I have listened to lots of your podcasts and there are a lot of parallels.
Well done for helping bring this stuff to light.
People that have left since me and knew my mother were aware she was widowed but unaware she ever had a child.

For all the problems that can come from social media, I'm so thankful that your channel and so many others are exposing the abusive practices of these groups. They can't hide in dark corners anymore. And anyone suffering, even if you feel alone, you're not!
So many of us are sending our love and support. It doesn't matter if you did something or think you did, you don't deserve this. And you don't have to share your story if you don't feel like it, we're all sending you love and support 💖 It can be difficult to trust, but there are lots of good people in this world. There's always hope, no matter how dark it seems ❤❤❤❤

This is CRAZY! Yikes! Can't these "churches" be broken up and prosecuted on the money stuff?
In my opinion, if a church is doing something illegal or immoral, you're no longer a church. Their tax exemption status should be revoked, and all parties should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Freedom of religion allows people to get away with the most outrageous stuff. I hope they look into La Luz del Mundo as it is growing in Latino communities in the US and they have a system similar to using labor from the congregation, abuse and their main leader is in jail in the US but they’re still defending him, kind of like Warren Jeffs

Love this episode, the brethren are full on and very much go under the radar. I used to work in a tool shop and would often see them come in to our store. Wouldn't have known if my manager hadn't flagged it.

I left this cult 20 years ago and have so much trauma from what happened before I left and then after when I was shunned by my family that I had to leave behind. I still have 8 siblings inside (3 sisters) and it breaks my heart that they are not able to live authentically.
This group (or should I say ‘Modern Day Mafia’ has sooo much to answer for and I can’t wait for the truth to all be exposed!!! 😢

Richard is better than me because if someone was stalking me and my family...I'd turn into John Wick on them and Warren Jeffs while we're at it (also his daughter is adorbs). Ratfucker would make a kickass heavy metal band name. Sam and Melissa's reactions to the Exclusive Brethren drinking alcohol is hilarious. Another great video!!
A church is a building built by humans.
A religion is doctrine decided upon by humans.
A spiritual relationship with The Lord is just that, a relationship WITH HIM !
People need to start realizing that and stand up. Nothing wrong about having a religious belief unless it does not include THE LORD.
While that's true, you have no idea how oppressed and essentially helpless you become to even be able to stand up against the evils of religious doctrine, let alone leave it, unless you've actually experienced it.
God hears the whispering tremors and is Faithful and Loving.
There are quite a few in this cult, unable to escape the system, but quietly in genuine relationship with their Saviour.

I had never heard of this group before and had to look them up. Not real Christian to me if you have to chase people down, threaten, haunt them - Christ gave His Eternal Love❤ and He also gave us choice.

Hi. I want you to know I live in the province they talked about and I didn’t realise there was a church (I don’t know if the church is still used today) by my route I go to get to my Walmart or the south end of the town I live in. I hope they are safe

I quite seriously have been waiting for Sam and Melissa to cover the PBCC!!!
Last year I almost dated someone who was a traveling pastor for the Plymouth Brethren. Not sure how he got that gig since he didn't grow up within that group. I'm a Christian and had never heard of the PBCC so I had no context at first, but the small details he told me once were concerning. I'm not sure if there are different branches within the PBCC that practice differently, but this PBCC group within the US Midwest practiced some very.... enlightening gender roles - women must wear headcoverings, women were not allowed to speak within the church building (!!) and had to speak through their husbands/fathers instead, and the men and women sat on seperate sides of the building during service. I also remember him saying that he and all members were expected not to vote (something about pacificism and extreme views about separation of church and state being a core belief of the group). I lost contact with this person for other reasons, but right before we lost contact, he'd just mentioned those details of his church, which terrified me and angered me to no end that he wouldn't stand up against the injustices women in the group faced when he knew it was wrong.
So, needless to say, I dodged a bullet in many ways 😂 I knew I dodged a bullet long BEFORE I watched these videos, and wow. So much more I didn't know. Thank you, Sam and Melissa, for using your platform to bring awareness, and thank you to your great guests who are willing to share!! It's been morbidly fascinating to learn more, though my heart hurts for those still in this group. ❤
