He meant early early detection. 10 years or so. Even a slight change over a period of years would change the orbit enough to miss the Earth.
Gravity is not force ,it is an effect of displacing space and motion. If a mirror come of a moving car,it instantly losses volicty and stops moving . If a good ornament come off,it hits the windshield, because it stoped moving. If you jump off a building, you stop moving,we call it falling, but what a actually happens, it you lost volosity and the earth hit you. Everything in the universe is moving. That why you have creat your own volosity to escape Earth's volosity.
If he was my science teacher I would of paid more attention.

Why don't we just send up a small reactor to turn the ice into hydrogen and oxygen, add some rockets and you can turn it into a spacecraft. Slow it down and put it into orbit, then mine the resources out of it until it is gone.
