Such wonderful instruction, thank you! I’m going to go back to your video again and again. It was so much more helpful than most sculpture videos- from building the armature to the caliper measurements to the hollowing-out process. The part at the end when you put your nose against your dad’s is priceless. There is a strong family likeness, for sure. ✨
I got my hands on some wild clay yesterday and found myself yearning for a new experience. After much labour processing the clay, I stumbled on your video, it alone has provided me everything I need to get started with sculpting. Many thanks to you, Dear Ms Walsh
What a moving moment to bring your father back to life! How nice of you to do that! You are amazing, I learn from you, thank you very much. Maybe one day I will be able to fix my father too, I lost him countless years ago ...
This was so fascinating to watch. Thank you for sharing your skills. Not sure if it’s my imagination but I’m at time stamp 1:04:57 and I can see Marina herself in the sculpture. Edit: just got to the end of the video and yes it does really resemble Marina

Gracias, muy bueno...he aprendido muchísimo gracias desde Las Islas Canarias....gracias Artista...No entiendo ni papa de lo que oigo, pero unas imágenes valen un tesoro.... gracias de nuevo....
This is fantastic. Thank you so much. Prepping right now to do my first attempt at a bust. The clay you used - I wonder what kind it is. I only have speckled brownstone & worry about keeping it consistently moist; also seems a 'rougher' consistency than what you used. Anyway... thanks so much. You're inspiring.
and just as I reach the end of this fantastic tutorial, now thinking this is not brain surgery and I might be able to try it. Brain surgery. :) Thankyou for taking the time to share this. I cant wait to try some of the techniques.
Really taught a lot..im an absolute beginner. Cant seem to sculpt a face at all. Every attempt ive done looks very poor. Thank you for sharing this in great details.
You are very skilled. Greetings. I am Hisham Said from Egypt. I love drawing and sculpting a lot, but I am not skilled. I hope to be skilled in the future.
Such an informative video, thank you! I come from a ceramics background and was wondering what type of clay you used, how it is fired, and how careful one has to be with joins etc to avoid cracking/exploding? Thanks!
Thankyou for the lesson, I picked up much advice in the eyes, ears and neck.. Im a self teaching artist in sculpture.. ive been hollowing out my forms quite well and evenly. However im experiencing cracks through the bisque and glaze fires... any suggestions? Im using a pretty standard stoneware clay and firing a bisque and then cone 6 glaze.. cheers
Hi Theodore, perhaps fire the head on its back. I go up very very slowly. Cracks can be fixed with fire grout. But I don't glaze, I add a patina.. Need to make a video of that
HI @emizora, I take all the foil and paper and plastic out . i hollow very carefully following the outer shape . let it dry for at least 4 weeks and fire to 1080 degrees celsius. please feel free to e mail me any questions.
