Saw some people complaining about her monotone voice, meanwhile I'm astonished she can talk in depth while working. When I try to talk while working I stop mid sentence, stutter, or just straight up repeat a whole sentence!
@@toonybrain Yes that is sort of true! However, what you hear is her talking while working pasted on a shortened video. Her sculpture took 3 hours, the video is 13 minutes. So they have 3 hours of sound to work with. Since we do see her talk 'live' at some points, I assumed she talked with the same ease overal. But who knows how tweaked it is tho, so you do have a point.
BRILLIANT. Not only the process, but also the monologue and explanation of the process. Incredibly insightful. Zoe is a fantastic sculptor and teacher.
So amazing I watched the whole video with my jaw dropped. I'm especially amazed at how the light hits the sculpture the same way it hits the guy's face, showing how accurate the shapes are. Delightful.
This is the method Rodin used - it was described in the back of a book I have on his work. But I've never heard the part about scaling down gradually through the tools - that's brilliant! Such a treat to see it come to life so rapidly. I wonder how long she actually took to do that?
*comes back from the last day of work in the year* -phew! now i can relax a bit on my vacations! 18 minutes later... Vacations are so boooorrriiiiing.. glad we got proko and people like these in this site. Surely these vids will keep me up to get an dysphoria plus a mental breakdown crisis through 2 long months.
Again, these are some of the best art videos put out. There's been so much information given from so many different sources. That's the best gift possible. I've always thought of drawing from a sculptural point of view. It's just easier to see form, literally.
This was/is fantastic. I don't do this type of art work BUT was quite enjoyable to watch a very skilled person do their handiwork. Your explanations of your procedure were very telling and interesting to learn about the art of sculpture. Not sure how you could have received a thumbs down let alone two by the time I viewed it. Again, great job and thanks for keeping it real. Merry Christmas to one and all.
@@deekay6474 That's a really good point; I studied figure painting in oils initially, and it wasn't until I started sculpting the figure in clay that I really truly gained an in depth understanding of form. Very useful to have both 2D and 3D experience, they complement each other!
Zoe Dufour she is extremely talented skilled artist .she fired me up to follow every second of how she is sculpturing this awesome guy. Proko your great work on this channel is appreciated . keep progressing and keep up . my best wishes
Wow! She's just amazing! Thank you for showing her process; it was so insightful and it taught me a lot about how I should be approaching my paintings too. Will definitely be checking out the longer demo.
Made a sculpture as a gift for my friend before school let us out for break As someone completely new to sculpting this would have been super useful. Oh how life works in mysterious ways lol
Great tips with the scotch brite sponge and the pupils being the highest point in the eyes. This second one is interesting because, like she does, sculptors make a recession where the pupil sits so the shadows create a darker spot.
Proko is most of the things I wish my university in the 1990's had been. Had youtube been around back then, I'd have saved the money on college and bought supplies and video tutorials.
Damn that was a really great video! Loved seeing the process, and she does a great job explaining the steps she's taking as it's happening. Really impressive stuff!
Wow! What talent! Thanks for setting this up for us. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her process and look forward to watching the longer sculpting session.
Wow! This is beyond what I imagined possible lol! I always thought these sculptures belonged to Ancient Greece so it was kind of like a myth, but this is amazing!
If you like Ancient Greek sculptures, check out sculptures from the Hellenistic Period, especially pieces like "Old Market Woman" and "Nike of Samothrace," amazing pieces!
Man, I've been at it for about 3 years and am just now looking into the techniques I should have been studying from day one. No wonder my work looks so terrible in the mirror!
By the type of work she does, it is most likely she makes a mold and makes a cast of some sort, since firing the clay without hollowing the figure can lead to the piece to break , but she can also air dry it if she wants it just like that, since its a water based clay.
Después de ver esculpir con arcillade manera rápida y sorprendentemente parecido.........me preguntó si para llevarlo al horno es necesario vaciarlo por dentro ya que, para que se vuelva duro hay que meterlo al horno
Make sure to check out Zoe’s Masterpiece Demo at www.proko.com/dufour
Awesome
Proko, for a beginner painter what brushes would you suggest? using acrylic and water mixable oils as the media
Where is the new video?
Proko thanks Proko! Zoe is awesome!!

No. 15: Burger King Foot Lettuce
the content of her speech is good for mid-work but the intonation drives people away from fully listening to what shes saying
i find that her voice so relaxing
S Kartoredjo But she’s not talking while she’s working; it’s an audio overlay. Watch again and you’ll see.

Wow. Thank you to the guy who edited the video, it's an experience, not just a learning process (since few of us are actually going to try sculpting)
Mihnea Radu tough I think painters should try sculpting As well, because it makes you think About forms and volumes in a different way
@UCH2fmKMnRFq6gbARSJt7CRA I didn't complain about anything, I just said the video editor did a great job

Absolutely fascinating to watch how the portrait "emerged" under her skilled hands.

Zoe is a spectacular sculptor. The portraits have a life to them, she captures the subject’s essence.

I think sculpting would really make you understand form.
