First of all, two of my action cams are made by ActiveOn. My main "go to" camera for everyday use is the ActiveOn Gold. And for your keen interest, ActiveOn make a solar powered action cam. So if you go away for a weekend of camping, your camera will recharge its battery just by sitting in the sun. (that's a pretty cool feature not many other cameras have) As for the YI Discovery, the audio sync is an unheard of problem! (gasp!) A firmware update should solve that and also provide DIS too. But I can't believe a company would sell a product knowing the audio and video don't match up. (shock) But .... No tripod screw hole is pretty lame, it really limits a camera's usability. Cameras have to be mounted to things and various tripods are usually what you're using for that. My guess is that there must be a plastic mounting bracket that fits over the camera and that bracket comes with tripod screw holes. But you would have to play "extra" for that. (tisk-tisk)
Three questions popped - 1. Can you change wifi settings ? Subnet / Network / ip ? 2. can you turn off the fish eye ? on 1080p 60fps at least ? 3. What is the maximum range for wifi ?
I bought a $30 action camera on Amazon, I wasn't expecting a lot out of it but it does do 1080p 60 incredibly well, it also came with a ton of accessories which is awesome. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the audio sound better on these cheap action cameras? Thanks
Good to see it's not just me pointing out the big problems with this camera and giving a honest review. I seriously don't understand why no other reviews of this camera mention the audio problem, the mounting problem, the touch screen etc. BTW you may find there's also a frame rate issue, there is for us folk in PAL territories. Ouch yeah being in the US I never deal with PAL so it generally doesn't get covered but that stinks if there is a problem with it. And I want to like this camera but there are too many issues that keep me from being able to recommend it.
Yi get it almost right every time, they still haven't quite made the killer action camera. I know you like your Yi stuff as well, you may like some of my Yi videos, I've done an interesting macro video with the 4K+ after a lens modification I done to it to give it manual focus. Cheers, Dave.

I've been using 1 canon g7x & 3 sjcam4000's for like 3 years now mounted on a Samson MK-10 boom mic using their frame mount + a 1/4 male to female thread - And they still work fine (though I don't know if one is a fake or not, but it still works lol) BUT, one of my cameras gave out on me the other day.. I think I've narrowed it down to these, but if you know something else that would fit my needs better Please let me know. Cuz if the one I get is way better than my Sjcam's then I might get 2 more (so, cost is a factor) GoPro Hero 5 Black refurbished = $220 each ($170 after $50 trade in for my sjcam4000) Yi-4K (not 4K+) = $150 from their website...but no trade in offered. *I do like that the GoPro Hero 5 Black has the Linear mode (cuz fish eye looks weird on drums) **I also use Screenflow 7, if that makes a difference with those 2 cameras above. These will be for UA-cam drum videos, SO... 1. I don't really need stabilization (unless it will help with #6) 2. I don't really need 4k either actually.. 3. I'll be shooting in 1080p 30fps, MAYBE 60fps (if I feel like it would look cool) 4. The cameras will be on a Samson MK-10 boom stand using their frame mounts + GoPro Tripod adaptor. 5. I don't need the audio to be great (I get my audio edited) 6. I've noticed my bass drum does cause the video to shake with my Canon G7X (1st one, not mark 2), but that could just be because it's heavy while attached to my boom stand. 7. I was looking at this and the tripod mount (or lack of) plus grabbing a lightning deal on a Yi lite with case (which I'll need for motorcycle use) for $94 sealed the deal. I've used it a few times (timelapse, video and photos) and it's good. Videos are better than the stills. I'm looking forward to seeing how this cam works. Now a few memory cards, a couple of extra batteries and mounts and I'll ready to go. Thanks TEDD for the help that finally got me to buy something. Companies should be sending you stuff to review! The Everyday Dad Certainly you must use something else for audio for your vlogging, I suspect just about everyone else doesn’t want to haul around a separate audio recorder when out actioncamering.

I checked out the apple watch a few months back, my problem is I can't use smart watches the majority of the day so it's hard for me to get a sense of them.
Just realized...im using yi discovery...sometimes the exposure just drop and make the video darken. And this cam is not so good in the low light area. :(

How about review the MJX BUGS 2C its the cheapest gps drone that can carry a action camera with brushless motors👌 (Accesorys needed to carry an action cam)
I mean it's not a terrible camera and I'd recommend it with a firmware update and a tripod mount. But without that I'd have to recommend the yi lite every day over this one.

The Everyday Dad dose it have stabilisation as I’m thinking maybe a session as they are cheaper out here for some reason or maybe a sj cam but I don’t know what has stabilisation as it’s hard to find the information so I don’t know hearing to may bad things about GoPro 6 and for $600 down here I can’t part with that on all the bad reviews on here and the plane rip off of Ozzie customers as it doesn’t match the exchange rate and is over by 38%so I don’t get when other companies are around the 8 to 12 % on average there’s a story on here I watch about it sorry rave over it be cheaper for me to get you to get me a GoPro of any type and post it out to me and I would save money that way still as the mark up it to much

Maybe you can run it through audacity or plug in an external mic, but that's about it.

Well, I got a Yi Discovery WATRPROOF CASE KIT and it came with a MILLION ACSESSORIES, including MANY MTB, GIMBAL, TRIPOD etc. mounts

20fps 4K "which means not really usable" my interpretation exactly! Maybe with a firmware later?
Someone mentioned it to me in the comments a week ago, I'd never heard of it before that. I don't think they've advertised it at all.
20 fps is too low. 24 fps is really the lowest you can go to have usable footage.

Yeah me too, the image quality isn't terrible for what you pay but the audio syncing and not mounting options make it hard for me to recommend it.
For me it's all about the mounting option I would be using it in conjunction with my Yi4k I think I'll just get a Yi lite light for my b-roll

I'd use a cell phone in that situation, but the yi lite can do all of those things too.
