Great job Gary. I do hope some of the other creators see this and follow your lead. I've always tried to minimize my e-waste (reduce, reuse, recycle). Even now when I've reached my retirement years and know that my efforts won't mean much for my personal life, I still do it so that you, my daughters and others have a better future. One thing with mentioning to your users is they can google e-waste recycling in their state to get more info. Staples also accepts a lot of e-waste stuff too! Yeah I still have my 15 year old HP Printer (still works) and when it finally fails, I'll never buy another one from HP
Recently had an electric toothbrush stop working. I was able to crack it open and replace the battery to bring it back to life, but boy did Phillips not want me to do that with the way this was constructed.
I wouldn't say that it's difficult, just that it's really unofficial feeling and not something a end user can easily find out how to do. Guides should be available easily for such repairs. Done 2 sonicares myself.
@@s2000. The plastics are extremely easy to crack with the amount of force you need to pry open the bottom if it doesn't come out with any of the easier methods. Mine has a small crack near the bottom as a result. I'd say the device has been designed to not be repairable and just happens to be if you're willing to. It should just be a regular twist lock with an o-ring, but instead it's some ridiculous squeeze and pry method.
@@k.constantine Oh, maybe they've made it more fragile then. Mine was pretty easy to pry out with knipex pliers and a towel around it. Screw on solution would be better yes.
@@s2000. Yeah, that's how I did it, but to get enough of a gap to insert a guitar pick ended up cracking the plastics. I imagine they're lower quality these days than in the past, or at least more stiff and prone to cracking.
@@s2000.That’s the point the OP was making… you shouldn’t need to do all that to change the battery, it should be easy to find and understand not like you’re about to break the plastic just to get to it. It’s a negative experience and will be enough to deter most general people. Which is what Philips wants because they want those users to buy a new brush rather than fix it.
Props for being willing to be different in the tech UA-cam space. I cringe when other popular channels clearly state that a new device is not worth the upgrade… and then they buy it anyway because they dig the new color (not mentioning any names 😂). I would love to see you highlight ChromeOS Flex as an efficient and secure means of extending the life of an old computer. It’s pretty great. Also, have you ever considered reviewing a System76 laptop? That would be fun. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the comment! I'm not sure I'll be doing any more "reviews" but I'll definitely keep my eye out for either those things as they may work for me personally.
@@TheEverydayDad I’d look into Framework instead! I think those are a lot more mainstream although that sounds cool too. I think you might enjoy it and think you also might enjoy reviewing it! Great video btw.
Thank you very much for this video. I am studying in the broad field of environmentalism and environmental policy and I am very happy, that a big youtuber like you shares valuable information to the public. I really hope, that the changes to your UA-cam channel (especially less videos about new releases and hype) don't hurt you financially. 10 videos about the same new iPhone just seems like the best way to gain subs and views... All the best to you Edit: Damn, the part about you being proud of your content hit really hard. Such a great video
Great video, Gary. The OTHER THING that pisses me off with these cellular phone manufacturer companies is that some of the cellular service companies force a block on the phones so they cannot be given to people in another country. Case in point I had an expensive Samsung Galaxy Note that I paid over $1000 for. It was unlocked and I gave it to my mother in law in El Salvador. The phone could not be connected to a carrier outside of the US. According to Samsung this was a condition forced upon them by US carriers. Such BS
Remember, your video on the 2020 Intel MacBook Pro 13 inch base model. I still have it, and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. It still works great, thanks for the recommendation. I am not one of those people who can afford to upgrade every two years or less. A family member still uses the 2012 unibody MacBook Pro that they bought new. the hard drive is failing, but they won't let me upgrade it, so I going to have to wait until it dies completely.
I am sitting here watching this on an iPhone phone 13 which I just bought New. I did not buy the newest shiniest and spend a lot more money than I needed to and that was down to you. Please don’t beat yourself up about your previous videos, you have always been honest And shared what actually has changed so people can make sensible decisions. Good luck with the changes and I will continue to follow you. Liz in 🇬🇧
OK, Gary. You are now my favorite UA-camr, tied with that Erin that does retirement planning videos. I'm 56 years old and have seen many generations of tech products come and go. I buy only used tech, waiting a couple of years for today's newest and shiniest to become deeply discounted. The same experience as new, but a couple of years later. My personal experience buying used tech on eBay has been very good. I watched this video on a 32 GB M1 Pro MacBook Pro. I never would have popped for the 32 GB upgrade new, but a couple years old and it's affordable. To partially pay for the upgrade, a couple of Intel MacBook Airs and other stuff laying around the house were sold, hopefully to buyers who will use them a few more years. In the last year I bought a 1980 Technics receiver, a 1993 Technics CD player and an Apple TV 2nd gen. (the 720p one) to use as an AirPlay receiver for the stereo system. It is sooo much sweeter than anything new. I am absolutely loving it! Old tech, people!
Much respect and hope this truly catches on other influencers/reviewers, as as this point you all have power on these companies. Still rocking iPhone 13 mini, even wit bat problems and got a refurb M1 Air. More than enough.
It used to be cheaper to go out and buy a new printer with preinstalled cartridges than it was to buy new cartridges, and many people I knew would do that, disposing of the entire printer! I’m sub’d to instant ink and appreciate that they at least send out postage paid boxes to mail out / recycle used cartridges. The rest of what you mentioned is a bit concerning.
This is one of my favorite videos from you now. Thank you for being one of the very few UA-cam creators who is shining a light on this really really scary truth about what is actually happening to our planet. You really have my respect. Love from the Philippines 🇵🇭 🙇♂ 👏
Not to mention how these devices get their source materials. The DRC is suffering from the demand of cobalt and coltan. We need to put more pressure on corporations to do something because even if we are more informed consumers, it would change little in comparison to basic regulations. We need stronger regulations on corporations and their anti-consumer practices and their moral gray area on sourcing materials.
I remember getting rid of my 27" Sony XBR TV from 1997 a couple of years ago, 2022. It worked great and sounded awesome but we got to talking about seeing antique grandfather clocks at estate sales that couldn't sell and was left up to the heirs to deal with. I realized that by hanging onto the CRT TV, that I was hanging onto the equivalent modern grandfather clock. So I paid the $15 disposal fee at a landfill as there was zero recycling options within a 50 mile radius. I decide to down tech our home and not keep up the smart home advances but to not replace them as they fail or get obsolete by software not updating.
Commenting and liking because you took a big swing out of your comfort zone, and the algorithm fails to reward such things. This should have more views.
It takes courage to take the step that you are taking with this channel, which I respect a lot. However I also believe that once you have switched that mindset, there is just no going back and this is just the road you need to follow and see where it takes you. Thank you for pioneering and inspiring, let's hope the rest of the world will follow your example and let's not forget the power of the individual🙏
This is so refreshing. Finally a techtuber who addresses this inconvenient truth. Thanks, Gary! 💜 I hope you are at the forefront of a movement. Personally I get so much more pleasure out of trying to run my devices as long as I can than I get with buying the latest. Ironically I find this the easiest to do with Apple products, because of the long (official and unofficial) software support and hardware durability. I’m writing this on a 2016 iPad I bought second hand in 2018. And my dad still uses my old 2008 MacBook Pro (it runs a modded version of Sonoma via OCLP).
I really appreciate this video. As head of technology at my school I watch so much technology come and go. We try to repurpose as much as possible and also utilise an ewaste recycling service when stuff gets broken beyond repair (you know teenagers). I also do my absolute best to reuse and recycle as much as possible at home.
Congrats on the video, but more importantly, congrats on the insight and decision to reduce your consumption and production of e-waste, Gary. As a fellow tech enthusiast, I spent the bigger part of the last four to five years watching every single review of new major products (mostly Apple's). What I realized is that, while I commend all tech reviewers for working so hard to put relevant content out on the internet, the review videos have an underlying effect that entices the public to the need to upgrade their tech (even when the people in the video say "DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC URGENT NEED"). Personally, I have been watching fewer and fewer review videos and felt that this had a positive effect in controlling my own desires to upgrade my tech and gadgets. Have been a follower of your channel for the last few years, but now I am a fan of Gary, rather than a fan of TEDD. All the best.
Good for you, Gary! I suspect you thought long and hard before deciding to make these changes to your channel. It's great to see a person who is led by his conscience and not his wallet. I certainly will continue to enjoy your content.
You can repurpose old hardware as something else or give it life again as another way to lesson eWaste. A couple of years ago, I repurposed my 15 year old laptop by installing the Linux distro, Mint. Runs better now. The only things that my laptop does not work anymore is the keyboard and webcam. So until I get a replacement keyboard for the laptop, I just plugged it to my TV and got an inexpensive wireless keyboard/trackpad -- now I have a makeshift SmartTV. I repurposed my old Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as an alarm clock, eReader, mp3 player and Cast device. It even has an IR blaster so it can serve as a TV remote. With my old iPhone 8, I've used it as a webcam and a dash cam for my car.
Extremely important review that for understandable reasons is very uncomfortable for tech enthusiasts. The problem won't go away by looking to another direction though. Thank you
One of the most valid concerns of modern consumerism is how everything is disposable; from generic consumer tech to EV's to disposable vapes to more abstract things like music and art that seems to be made as trend-chasing disposable slop. It hurts so many aspects of consumer mentality, the environment, etc. Very great points in this video. More people in the tech content creator space need to be talking about this more.
Great to hear someone acknowledge the elephant in the room. There is also an argument to be made for free and open source software along the same lines as right to repair. I’d like to suggest Gary, a series of videos outlining the most repairable tech items. Last year I refreshed my Apple tech but I’ve pretty much hit the end of the line with them. Another video suggestion: ways to extract yourself from any given corporate “ecosystem” but minimizing e-waste generation in the process. You’re doing good work here Gary and I’ll be following as long as you choose to be a presence here.
Awesome job with this video, as exciting as the iPhone 16 looks to me I very happy with 13 mini and plan to stick with it. I saw ifixit has the whole replacement kit on sale for $32 right now, that’s pretty cool and maybe I’ll try it in a year if I feel like I need it.

I loved this video. I've being questioning many of my tech purchase habits and looking to declutter and have a somehow more environmentally friendly approach, but seeing this from a tech youtuber is on another level. The Apple ecosystem is totally looked for any upgrades and almost impossible to repair, and sadly many other companies are going the same route. There are a few tech companies, like Framework, that are aiming for something different. I hope the reach out to you so you can keep creating content from a more environmentally friendly point of view. I wish you the best.
Excellent video Gary. So many of us, myself included, have become trapped in the never ending upgrade cycle. And usually I am very underwhelmed by the new products I buy. I hope I manage to follow your lead and become far more responsible in my purchases. The most important video you have ever made, I hope a lot of people listen!
I commend you on this course of action! I've long watched you on my cantankerous 2011 Mac Mini (running Linux) until recently when it went beyond my ability to keep it going. My iPhone 6S still works (as a music and video player...), though it's now supplanted by a Pixel running GrapheneOS. I will not unsubscribe from you. I will be here watching your videos. I dare say they'll have more meaning and import to me from now on. Aloha and good luck on this refreshing, mind-freeing, journey!
I think you also should have recommended buying used as a first strategy. MANY "old" tech devices are perfectly fine. The previous owner is after the "new and shinyY thing. Someone wants your MacBook Pro 16" and doesn't need the 64 Gb of RAM. Yes, eventually all tech (including TV remotes and razors) are trash. But between now and then, why not find someone who could use it - assuming it's working.
Great video Gary! Tech is getting more and more disposable but if there is any silver lining at all is the fact that tech has also gotten smaller. Ever piece of tech will reach end of life and the fact that it's smaller than say 30 years ago I guess if you are looking that is a small silver lining. We need to do better though for sure. I'm not trying to minimize the main point of this video just trying to find a small positive in this mess. Cheers my friend.
I love this Gary, I am very big on this subject especially at work. I place orders for new devices for the staff but I also make sure the devices that are being replaced are recycled safely. I never throw any electronics in the garbage. Never want anything ending up in a landfill. Personally, my TV went out and I recycled it through my city sanitation department. I haven’t purchased a new one as of yet as I have been using my iPad to watch UA-cam. I have some old smartphones I am keeping for collectibles other than that I tend to pass down or pay forward tech I no longer want to friends and family. If there is no one willing to take it, I recycle it.
Thats a good point, I didn't even talk about organizational purchasing or procurement, that probably drives change more so than individual consumer purchase.
Thanks for a great video, Gary. I normally don't have the focus to watch a 26 minute video, but your video was interesting and full of helpful information.
i sat on buying a new laptop for a long time. i watched your videos on the m1 air and finally gave in. but even then, i still didnt subscribe because im not into tech and e-waste bothers me. now, every tech youtuber is posting about the new mac mini. i looked up your channel to see what you thought about it and to my surprise, saw this instead. im glad that this is the step this channel has taken. im now definitely subscribing
The new format is so good! Huge props to you for wanting to break out of the hype cycle. It makes me even more excited to watch your videos and recommend your channel to others. Good job.
I agree Gary. In Canada we pay all these fees on tires, electronics and more with almost zero recycling facilities here. Majority of electronics go to Countries that have zero safety policies or WHMIS. These recycled and reusable bags we use in Canada to replace plastic bags has become a nightmare. People are throwing garbage out in them, turfing bags into bags and more. Yes, time has changed as has lifetime of our old TV's/Radio's and electronics.
Abso-F$%#-ing-lutely! KUDOS to you on this new direction. I sincerely hope this new ethos doesn't hurt the channel. Comparatively few bring their ethics along to UA-cam with them, both creators and viewers. You are a huge voice in your space, and can have a big impact on that and even start a trend. I would LOVE a video, as a video person, on migrating my YT workflow from Mac to another platform that I can upgrade and repair as needed, while maintaining security and ease of use. I'm totally petrified of leaving Apple after decades, due to fears of compromising my data before I even get up to speed on something new. Please do that video and I'll watch it ten times! I'll be honest, I've slowed down watching tech channels because they just seem hollow now, and I hadn't watched yours in a while. But I'm so here for this!
The moment that apple stopped having a removable battery in their laptops we have been heading down this road. Other companies quickly saw that people were having to get new computers more often and they all started looking into how to make everything proprietary again after years of PCs ensuring that they had many ways of being able to upgrade or add components to their hardware. Apple lead the way on this as they saw profits rise and everyone else followed suit. I still use a Macbook, but I deal with the fact that the one I buy is going to have to do for at least 6 years (and usually I buy one of the lower spec macbook pros). This doesn't help if you need significantly more performance each year. Phones have been the biggest culprit and I have been using an iPhone 8 since they came out...soon they will make it not able to be updated forcing me to purchase something new even though it still does everything I need from a phone. I hope someone like you will be able to get your message out to more people than I ever have.
One thing everyone should practice. Don't buy a piece of tech as use and throw. Plan your buying on electronics. Like Most of my tech is almost a decade old. Old Samsung TVs, My 2008 Mac book pro with that optical drive still works, then I bought a MacBook Pro in 2015 and finally bought the M1 in 2021 ONLY because my Adobe softwares literally stopped working on those older machines. I do the same with my phones. iPhone 4, iPhone 7, and now iPhone 13 Pro. The older ones are taken over by siblings or parents or children till they are no longer repairable.
Absolutely, the curve of updates is so low now that 10+ year old tech is totally viable and more so if its able to be maintained at the consumer level.
@@TheEverydayDad Exactly, like my 2011 27 inch Imac on open core legacy patcher mac os Sequoia doing 95% of daily computing needs, and the m1 imac does the other 5%.
Back in the day I upgraded my wife’s $200 celeron laptop with a the top of the line core2duo, 16gb of ram, and a 500gb SSD. It only is upgradable to windows 7, but it’s still snappy when I do need to fire it up. On the flip side, at my business I have 13 computers just shy of Windows 11 upgradability. In the next year they all need to be replaced because of security concerns. It’s not just manufacturers like Apple that are the problem. OS providers like M$ need to commit to providing updates for longer. Great video!
I used to keep all my families stuff up to date with new internals (as much as possible) but in the last few years we've migrated to apple stuff (obviously). In the future we'll be getting back into the keeping our stuff going on our own as much as possible.
great video.... people are just wasteful in general.... minimalism is the best!!.. Everything I own can fit into a few suitcase... I laptop, 2 iphones.. and thats about it..
I've looked around my own home and my collection of old tech. I mostly bought things that I couldn't afford when new. Tinkered with it and upgraded some of it too. But now; It just sits around. Some is even just no longer functional due to age. Brittle plastics, exploding capacitors, leaking batteries etc. I dont want to throw it out. And selling it would not get me back the money I've initially put in. Maybe I'm just destined to live with all this clutter? I dont know what to do going forward.
The power button on my iPad Pro M1 is no longer functional following a drop, but otherwise is totally functional, indeed, OP for my use case. The Apple Store told me yesterday that my only option through Apple is recycling the perfectly fine device. They did recommend that I consult third party repair shops, but it was shocking to learn nevertheless.
Great to see you thinking about this stuff. I wonder if you can get a fairphone and use it for a while? Yes they kinda suck, but it's so refreshing to see something that can be dismantled by the user, and the no tool battery replacement- like phones used to be!
I was thinking about buying a framework laptop and a pixel (because of its repairability score) but I decided to hold off on buying any new things (except my computer I needed for the channel). The plan is to use these until they dont work anymore and then when I have to buy something else I'll look into the repairable items available.
@@TheEverydayDad That makes the most sense, sorry for suggesting this twice, I only just saw your response! There's a UA-camr called Tailosive Tech and he likes to review and use older tech as daily drivers years later. He has videos on using older iPhone and Pixels. Maybe you could give your take on daily driving older phones/ laptops one might find in a used electronics store? Just an idea, all the best!
Good to have you back making content! I’m sure the tech companies won’t want you to stop making videos on their new products, so will you be able to use the gadgets that they loan you to carry on, returning them once the videos have been uploaded, or is that it for new tech reviews from TED? If so, I will miss your informative and entertaining videos.
Great Job, Gary! Ive been feeling this way for a while too. Im looking forward to the update to your channel as you find new content streams. Buy used/refurbished. Save money and save waste.
I used to work for a PC repair store and we would get commission if we sold certain products. As bad as my pay was, I just didn't have the heart to let a friendly old man buy a HP printer and I would "up sell" them to a Brother instead.
Hello Gary, I've been thinking the same ove rthe past few months. I have stopped buying the latest tech and put the old tech in my garage, which I know my kids will have to sort if anything happens to me. I'm going to giving most of these older but working tech, GREAT VIDEO Gary thank you for highlighting this
I wish these kinds of videos got much more views and traction. I love my tech products but I am so tired of tech companies getting a chokehold on us with these anti-repair consumerist policies. I just wanna be able to fix the battery of my smartwatch on my own without apple asking me for 500$ or it going to trash.
Ok Gary, that bothers me too. But since getting an i-phone and apple watch, then watching all your video’s on eco systems, i bought an i-Pad mini. MOstly it’s ok but I hate the Logi-Key’s to go, little keypad, at 72 typing is getting harder on small anything’s…my fingers have arthritis and some are misaligned. So I was thinking to get a regular laptop….should I stay with Apple (I do like how things are seen by all devices) or should I switch to PC …then which PC?
Great video! I have multiple old phones (each a few years a part not just upgrading every year kind of thing) that just sit in a drawer and I have no idea what to do with 😅 I may see if I can turn them in erase them, and then see who will take them for recycling. I actually didn't want to upgrade from my note 20 ultra, but the cost to repair it was like $700! Talk about forcing you into a new phone upgrade!
Thanks so much! I also have too much stuff sitting around in drawers. I've been slowly either turning them in for store credit (if able) or donating them to local charities that need functioning devices no matter the age.
I just keep the old phones I collect in a box and occasionally turn them on for fun or to take photos with, and then I just leave them on the charger for a bit and then power them off
Cudos man! I totally agree with your stance. I don’t think it’s just limited to e-waste. We of a whole have become a throwaway society (in my opinion). Just look at all the disposable items, we never really had growing up.
Will miss your videos you were my favourite weather doing budget accessories or top of the range gues you won’t be making anymore UA-cam videos the only thing I don’t agree with is the extra long plug you gave your sponsor i fix at the end. Alrgough they only sponsored a bit of it 9i have no idea how that works) an extra long plug couldn’t do any harm for future sponsorship. Hope you make some videos soon about something
Personally, I go out of my way to fix my existing devices fixed if they break instead of replacing it with either one Apple gives you or a new iPhone. I like going to 3rd party repair shops where they fix the same device and order new parts no matter how tedious the process is, it’s better than going through Apple and contributing to EWaste
how about the amount that will increase when windows 10 goes end of life. That's why they say reduce reuse then recycle. the number 1 in reduce but the amount of hardware that still works but must be thrown away is unexceptable.
As recently as 2010 you could still do that with laptops, my Dell Precision has upgradable and modular parts. Like mine came with a 1600x900 LCD but I could just replace it with the 1080p panel, I could add the optional webcam if I wanted, I can upgrade the socketed CPU if I wish, I can have an SSD and an HDD internally and maintain the replaceable DVD burner. Or I could put a Blu ray drive in its place or even another HDD in a caddy. The Wifi is on a separate MSATA card but even if that was broken I could use the PCMCIA or Expresscard slots. You used to be able to do so much even with a laptop. There's a reason I used it for over 10 years straight. Also, 16:45 how do you not know what is in your own house????
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro that use to read comic books, and I am seriously considering spending the eighty or hundred bucks to put a new SSD and some more memory in it just to be able to continue to use it for books. I've looked into it in the last couple weeks. It would cost +/- $1300 bucks to get a new MacBook with 1TB of storage. If the MacBook Pro I had were three years newer, I wouldn't be able to even consider putting memory or storage into it. It's criminal.
I know there are technical limitations based on the structural architecture apple uses that keeps them from having socketed memory and storage. I do still wish they had user repairable/upgradable options though.
I totally appreciate your voice and effort to make people aware of this environmental crisis…but if you aren’t going to review and cover new technology and how it helps the “everyday person” what are you going to cover? I’m confused as to where a tech channel can go if you don’t purchase or review anything new.
this is why I stopped buying laptops... I prefer to have an iPad for being on my sofa and then a proper desktop computer that I can keep updating if needed.
couldn't agree more with the sentiment on the phones getting barely better. I went from an iPhone XS i got new in 2019 and decided to finance a 14 Plus in 2022 with LESS storage than my trusty 256GB. Sure, the battery lasts a little more than a few days--but they performed about the same. especially now that my phone habits have changed in 2 years... was it worth it? or did i just need to recalibrate my phone habits (albeit, failing) to dissuade me from buying essentially the same thing just in a different form factor? just so we can chuck the old ones and have the new color every year?
Same here, but I wish Gary made this video about 9 months ago before I got dazzled by the Apple reality distortion field and refreshed all my tech. My new rule: keep everything until it dies, then responsible recycling (all my stuff is Apple and we know about their views on repairability). Good luck!

Liz in 🇬🇧
I'm glad you enjoy your iphone 13 and thanks very much for the comment!
This is so refreshing, lately my feed had been filled with reviews and all the usual videos. It's nice seeing a change!
Thank you very much! It was a lot of work and I'm glad it was useful/informational.
Thats a fantastic point, and hopefully comprehensive regulations could solve a lot of that.
I hope you are at the forefront of a movement.
Thank you
Thanks for this video. This is the kind of stuff tech reviewers need to be talking about.
Excellent video, Gary. I have a lot of respect for you and the decisions you’ve made for the future of your channel, and the planet
Those e-waste facts truly made me question if I care to have a UA-cam channel around consumer technology. Not even joking.
An amazing video, Gary, that I shared with my friends doing sustainability studies. And that Palpatine bit was hillarious 😂
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
Thank you for this video. Hopefully other tech influencers can make similar commitments to the cause.
I followed the Oregon right to repair bill as it passed. The fact that it also prevents parts pairing is huge
Thanks for a great video, Gary. I normally don't have the focus to watch a 26 minute video, but your video was interesting and full of helpful information.
Gary love this video it's a discussion that definitely needed to be had! And welcome back! 👍
Thanks so much!
i sat on buying a new laptop for a long time. i watched your videos on the m1 air and finally gave in. but even then, i still didnt subscribe because im not into tech and e-waste bothers me.
now, every tech youtuber is posting about the new mac mini. i looked up your channel to see what you thought about it and to my surprise, saw this instead.
im glad that this is the step this channel has taken. im now definitely subscribing
Loius Rossman..... dude...finally things are turning in the right direction man! Thanks for this video BTW... good stuff.
Oof, I'm not too familiar with Canada, but that sounds pretty rough.
Amazing video and awesome direction for the channel. I haven’t given much thought about e-waste, so thank you for shining a light on it.
Thanks very much! I'm glad it was a useful video!
This is really good information! I onlt knew it's going to be a different content but boy it really got me thinking. Great eye opener. Thank you Gary!
I use my tech tell it stops working than it goes in a drawer
Yes. Preach. I would LOVE to watch more repairable and upgradable making it last kind of tech content.
I'm not sure if all the content will be about repairs, but it will be about things other than new products.
Thank you, Gary. There is way too much tech waste.
Nice Job, Gary, you made me feel bad about myself.
Woof, definitely not the intended outcome, but I'm feeling better about myself if that helps lol
@@TheEverydayDad I think it’s a great shift, hope it does well.
You know it’s serious Gary when he goes hatless. 😀
Honestly the hat felt kind of goofy making the longer video style.
Great video. So amazing to show something different from so recent then to people and tech now
Thanks so much! It was definitely a lot of work, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
Great video! You are so on point.
No I've already decided not to cover new products anymore. I already said no thanks to apple for the iphone 16 coverage.
@@TheEverydayDad bro thats fire, you're the man Gary!
This is your best video Gary
Thanks very much!
Hey! There you are. You been gone a minute, Gary. Love your videos.
Thanks! I decided to make less but more in-depth videos instead of constantly making ones I'm not happy with.
@@TheEverydayDad Much respect. I loved this video by the way. Probably the best and most informative one you've uploaded to date.
Honestly I'm shocked at the HP thing, I couldn't believe it when I started researching this video.
Very different video from you. I love it. It needs to be said at least once.
Thanks very much!
Hello Gary, I've been thinking the same ove rthe past few months. I have stopped buying the latest tech and put the old tech in my garage, which I know my kids will have to sort if anything happens to me. I'm going to giving most of these older but working tech, GREAT VIDEO Gary thank you for highlighting this
Thanks! I'm definitely going to look into more repairable tech when I need to buy stuff in the future.
Very informative video.
Thanks so much! The video was getting a little unwieldy so I decided to focus it solely on e-waste, but I definitely agree with you.
Subscribed and will be watch everything you put out just from this video, hopefully more people do the same so your channel doesn’t get hurt to much
Will miss your videos you were my favourite weather doing budget accessories or top of the range gues you won’t be making anymore UA-cam videos the only thing I don’t agree with is the extra long plug you gave your sponsor i fix at the end. Alrgough they only sponsored a bit of it 9i have no idea how that works) an extra long plug couldn’t do any harm for future sponsorship. Hope you make some videos soon about something
perfect video to watch in the background as a i throw car batteries in the ocean :D
Commenting to stay on this side of youtube.
Amazing video! And you posted it around the time others posted unboxings of the newest iPhone… I see what you did there lol
Yeah it was the ramp up to iPhone 16 that got me thinking about my video format, and I decided I couldn't take part in that tech hype all over again.
The worst disposable tech are disposable vapes 🤦♂️
Personally, I go out of my way to fix my existing devices fixed if they break instead of replacing it with either one Apple gives you or a new iPhone. I like going to 3rd party repair shops where they fix the same device and order new parts no matter how tedious the process is, it’s better than going through Apple and contributing to EWaste
Hopefully we get more electronic recycling plant locations with cash incentives to recycle so we don’t toss it in the regular trash anymore.
100% Something to incentivize people responsibly recycling/donating/renewing old tech.
Gary looks like Michael Eckert. I'm sorry, just remembered someone 😅
how about the amount that will increase when windows 10 goes end of life.
I'm here for it.
I totally appreciate your voice and effort to make people aware of this environmental crisis…but if you aren’t going to review and cover new technology and how it helps the “everyday person” what are you going to cover? I’m confused as to where a tech channel can go if you don’t purchase or review anything new.
I dont know, we'll have to figure it out as we go. And if it doesn't work out then I guess I'll move on past making youtube videos.
Really, really good video.
this is why I stopped buying laptops... I prefer to have an iPad for being on my sofa and then a proper desktop computer that I can keep updating if needed.
I find it difficult to understand incremental updates in tech that make people get rid of a perfectly fine device.
You rock dude.
Thanks!
Nice Job, Gary,
Thanks!
Apple says they care about the environment, but they are one of the worst as far as customers being able to repair their Apple products.
I have never seen you without your Hat
If you're in Augusta, go say hello to my friend Mark Alexander at Portman's Music store! I used to work for them in Savannah!
I used to live in Augusta, but that was many years ago.
Got my support
Respect
Thanks!
couldn't agree more with the sentiment on the phones getting barely better.
Framework will be me my next laptop. Apple can kick rocks after my M1 dies.
Same here, but I wish Gary made this video about 9 months ago before I got dazzled by the Apple reality distortion field and refreshed all my tech. My new rule: keep everything until it dies, then responsible recycling (all my stuff is Apple and we know about their views on repairability). Good luck!
