I can't believe I can't get this on Spotify. Awesome arrangement of a song that's got several really good renditions from different artists. But this is my favorite.
Oh man, I LOVE finding out I'm not the only one with obsessive habits! I just now heard the intro for this song on zoolander, paused my Netflix to search for the full song on youtube, and BOOM...so did everybody else! I love hearing great songs for the first time on movie soundtracks. This version is AWESOME!
I should hope one wouldn't disrespect the group who actually wrote the song. I grew up with the original...loving it. I'm here because I love this version too. So bravo to The Wallflowers for making a great "modernized" cover that keeps the key mood element of the original (which is what makes the song great in the first place). But beyond personal "listening preference", I hope one never thinks a band who covers a song could ever be given more credit than the person/band who actually wrote it.Well, okay...I have to say this: Dynamite Hack's cover of Boyz in the Hood is brilliant. I love it, and I think the original is by Easy-E is just another rap song, with no character whatsoever. Dynamite Hack took great lyrics drowned out by boring rap and made it into the *song* it always should've been...obviously a very personal opinion (as I'm obviously a huge rap fan).
this version shows strong emotional sadness when a person tries to cover their sadness, I like this version the best, this is a song that encapsulates peoples feelings crystically
Who cares about Derek Zoolander anyway? The man has only one look, for Christ's sake! Blue Steel? Ferrari? Le Tigra? They're the same face! Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! I invented the piano key necktie, I invented it! What have you done, Derek? You've done nothing! NOTHIIIING!
I started a joke, which started the whole world crying But I didn't see that the joke was on me, oh no I started to cry, which started the whole world laughing Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I'd said Til I finally died, which started the whole world living Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I'd said 'Til I finally died, which started the whole world living Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me
I think the song is about the futility of human existence-- death is inevitable, and anything or anyone you choose to care about doesn't have any innate value outside of your own feelings. in this sense, life is a joke-- because while human existence is what we care about the most, the fact that we care does not negate the fact that existence is inherently meaningless on an objective scale.
Im a year late on this. lol. But had to respond. I found yours an Interesting perspective (no sarcasm meant either). I feel differently about existence being inherently meaningless, even if on an objective scale. I feel that we choose whether our lives will have meaning. Of course people can debate on what choices give life meaning. So lets start with human suffering. We all experience it as you suggested above. So doing something that could minimize suffering and help humanity could arguably make someones life meaningful. Anyone can do it, and there is suffering everywhere, so we all have an opportunity to have meaningful lives, by helping each other suffer less.
not to be a human supremacist but there's literally no relevance to our place in the cosmic order. it doesn't affect your life in anyway. but the people around you, the ones you love, hate, and worship. they are existence itself.
Hits me right in the chest even more than the original. Whenever I'm really down, which is more and more as I age, I listen to this song and it brings me down even further.
I love that this band is releasing another album. Been a longtime fan and its great that they are still putting out new material. "Reboot the Mission" has me stoked for the rest to come.
i had heard it before, saw zoolander, a dozen times, watched it like a month ago or so... but i didn't even really remember this cover existed... i was watching Robin sing it... and he just brings me to fuckin' tears when he sings it... and youtube brought me here... and this is nice, too...
I will love this forever! The Wallflowers make everything better. I'm so excited that they're coming out with a new album in October! They've already released one song, Reboot The Mission, and it's really really good! Can't wait to hear the rest!
Anyone here because they like the Bee Gees and liked this cover as well and not because of Suicide Squad but still appreciated the Suicide Squad version as well?
I definitely like the original better even though I heard this version first. I'm so thankful that Wallflowers did a cover! it does make me think of one of my favorite movies Zoolander and it led me to the original Bee Gees version that I love!!
What is this? A center for ants? How are we expected to teach the kids to read good... if they can't even fit inside the building?.... it needs to be at least... 3 times bigger.
I like this cover....I think the bass is interesting and adds a lot....nice arrangement with a lot of interesting musical touches. I don't think many people cover this song because it's so morbidly adolescent. these guys pulled it off.
Beautiful version of this profound song. I didn't 'appreciate' the Bee Gees - when I was a teenager. I grew up with older brothers and sister, and my musical knowledge and taste was of that earlier time. Later - when I slowly became something of a musician, (for the sole sake of making contact with a beloved musician), I then 'heard' the brilliance of the Bee Gees and even Abba. I sang and covered 'Morning Of My Life', by the Bee Gees, another fantastical love song. You - Jacob Dylan - what I know of your songs, you're great. This is from someone who could be called 'out of touch', or even out of her mind, because although I must have seen 'Zoolander', ...thus, must have heard your 'cover' version, ....it's like .... all new to me.
Eleni Nicolaou totally agree. .. I now appreciate the Bee Gee's. The original of this song is amazing but this cover is fantastic. I like this version better simply because it has more backing melody's that give it a bit more .. friendliness maybe.. a bit more paths the listener can go to.. .. Robin Gibb's vocals are starkly slashing to your ears in the original and can't be denied.. simply amazing
This version is Awesome !!!! I Love the BeeGees version and then i search for Cover-Versions and found 2001 many ,but this was the best of all. sorry Beegees :D
"Guess I have a lot of things to ponder!! " (gives Blue Steel look) No one could have carried off the Zoolander character like Ben Stiller. Well done Ben. yes Jacob Dylan did an amazing jobs.
My favorite version of this song. Tried finding it forever back when I heard it on Zoolander.
you should have just looked up the zoolander soundtrack on imdb or amazon...welcome to the internet

Aside from this being in zoolander am I the only one that thinks this is a fucking phenomenal cover?
This is by far the best cover.

no. i agree.
so do i
if you want to hear phenomenal cover, try Faith No More
This is my absolute favourite version of this song...so good.
This song gets me sad reminds me of the bad days I have had in life. But for every bad day in life I had, there has been dozens of good days.
This is good, but did you even think maybe there's more to life than being really really, really ridiculously goodsounding?

Oh the 90's ....time machine please! I so forgot about this song...used to cover it back then...this version of course
This song makes me think about what it's like to be a teenager/adolescent and you feel like you never get the reactions you expect from things you do.
same!
I can't believe I can't get this on Spotify. Awesome arrangement of a song that's got several really good renditions from different artists. But this is my favorite.
i love how if you listen to the original, and then this one, you can totally hear the progression of music with the decades

Why I can't find this song on ITunes or Spotify? For me The Wallflowers have the best version.

Very good version but no not as good as Robin of the Bee Gee he makes it sound more sad as it Is suppose to be. But great addition!

I started a joke, which started the whole world crying
But I didn't see that the joke was on me, oh no
I started to cry, which started the whole world laughing
Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me
I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes
And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I'd said
Til I finally died, which started the whole world living
Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me
