My sister had breast cancer and it matasised in 2016. She was a musician 38 years and she loved listening to her favorite artists. Tom Petty was one of them, I loved him too since a teenager. She was given 4 tickets to his last tour and was promised to meet him. Tom was so kind to her and wanted to sing with her unfortunately, her hair was all gone and she felt self conscious to do so. He treated my big sister like a queen. Gave her autographs, memorabilia, every tshirt from his last concert and any product they were selling on tour. He whispered in my sisters ear, I will see you again one day Laury.. She died in June 2017 Tom Petty passed in October 2017, We lost 2 wonderful people and musicians. I am sure they are playing guitars and serenading heaven... I am very grateful my sisters dream came true and couldnt have been with a nicer man.. Thank you Tom Petty

I have such wonderful memories of riding around in our crappy gray chevette with no power steering and rusted out floor boards listening to his greatest hits cassette tape over and over because it got stuck in the tape player and this was her favorite song of his. Listening to this today in her memory. Love and miss you mom always ❤️
My dad used to sing this song when I was a little girl. He did it to be funny and because he liked the song. After he died I couldn't listen to this song without crying. Now 15 years later it still bring back memories but I love hearing it now. When I hear it I feel like he's saying hello from heaven. I have changed the meaning in my mind. I'm the "good girl" who loves Elvis, her mama, America, horses etc. and he's a "bad boy for breakin my heart" by leaving me when he passed. It’s never returning. Mass migration and government propaganda has killed western culture. Inflation and re-education camps are returning though. 60s, 70s, and 80s were the last great burst of humanity before it’s decline. The cultural enlightenment of the western world has been extinguished. Our culture consists of corporate fashion, corporate designed architecture, bland corporate cities, corporate controlled social movements. Anybody that is old enough to have experienced the 80s or even the 90s knows what I mean. Something was vibrant in life and culture in those days. Whatever “it” was is missing today. The saddest thing is that I don’t have a chance to listen to him Live 😔😔. The happiest thing is that we are blessed to enjoy his unique art and legacy. I love Tom Petty 💚❤️
Yeah, odd that they really do tend to have a very short stay here on Earth. You would wonder what's behind it... So many young dead legends: I've lost count now. It's almost like they got wacked out for not toeing the line or something.... 🤔🤔
When I was 16, I went on vacation to the US with my parents and we did a helicopter flight through the Grand Canyon. The pilot played this song and managed to time it in such a way that the chorus kicked in at the exact moment we were passing a cliff and the canyon would open up in front of us. It was amazing.
Isn't it awe-inspiring when events line up almost perfectly in life? Your Grand Canyon story is a phenomenal example of that. Sounds like a fantastic experience!
Wow must have been a nice experience. But isn't it too loud in a helicopter to listen to a song? I guess the volume of the song must have been loud also
2023 nearly 2024 , this song still Rocks today even after all these years. Just a Shame Tom ain't here anymore. All of you listening to this track you have Amazing taste in music. Godspeed Tom 🙏 🙏 From the 🇬🇧
yeah man, a genius song maker. Sad the guy has gone. But thats life, I thought Hendrix would never die. BUT HE HAS LEFT A LEGACY OF CLASSIC MUSIC FOR US TO ENJOY. RIP ALL SONGSTERS I LOVE YOU ALL.
I’m here 2 weeks later. This song is nearly spiritual to me. I’ve only watched the video a few times becyi have my own video on my head. But this video is a beautiful representation of the 80’s & 90’s
I saw Tom Petty perform with the Heartbreakers three times. I was never disappointed at his concerts. He gave everyone his all every time. He was phenomenal.
TheGamecube64Guy Such a terrible loss to the music world! I am doing absolutely nothing today, except for listen to Tom Petty for the remainder of the day. R.I.P. 😓
To everyone one out there. It's a truly wonderful to have artists like TP and the ones we've lost recently from the 80s. But they gave us something we can all cherish forever. There music will always live on. So enjoy every moment you have on this Earth, cause there's no guarantee for anyone tomorrow. And remember the world Meets no one half way, if you want it go get it and never let anyone tell you that can't do something. RIP Tommy P
Alex Newtian Modern music will never beat the classics. The "Student's surpass their masters" rule doesn't apply with people like Miley Cyrus and Nicki Manaj who get popular from the things they do not the music they make. If you could even call it music.
A song about leaving a woman you love cause of how much she helped you and changed you for the better but made you realize you ain’t ready yet. Iconic song.
This song really holds a special place in my heart. My daughter used to sing this with me in the car when she was little. Just goes to show you how music paints memories in our lives. Thanks Tom Petty. Songs like this shows why you are a legend...
musicmankenn dude that's awesome, me and my daughter have a bunch of songs we love singing together also, started her at 5. And now she is 9 and actually requests these songs on the drive to school every morning , makes me lower it when we get close to school though lol , got forbid her friends may actually hear real musicians right .....
musicmankenn that is super sad. I wish he was still here. My step mom started to cry when she hered what happened! My brother and me would sing a bunch of his songs and we still do
This is the first song I learned to sing, in the car while my mom was driving listening to the cassette - I sung along to the chorus, as a 3 year old in 89 - "FREEEEE FALLINNNN!". It's my earliest memory and one I will cherish forever. Thanks Mom!
RIP, Tom I've listened to your voice since I was a little boy watching my father struggle to maintain. Thank God, for you're talent, your spirit, and the blessing you are to us all. LEGENDS NEVER DIE.
A true classic! I remember the day this was released: I just came home from high school with my best friend, we sat and listened to this song, and the second it was over we said to each other simultaneously - "Man,... that's just a perfect song!"... And 30 years later I feel the same.
I it a favorite of life for me...released when i was about 25, i am not sure, i did not check, and unforgetable for me because of tom cruise i ine of his best movies (for me)....Jerey mcquire ...just google Tom cruise, free falling and you will find it on youtube....
Don't cry because he is gone, smile because he was here. R.I.P Tom Petty... edit: why tf does this have so many likes. edit 2: not to be that guy but thanks for the likes. nice to see everyone coming together on the replies to the comment, ill try to respond to new replies in the future. the line "gonna leave this world for a while" hits hard. his impact on music is great, his time here was legendary, we were lucky to have shared the same time with him when we did, and we should all be incredibly grateful for it. theres not a day that goes by where i dont think about him and his legacy, and even though hes gone, we can still live that legacy as many times as we want. ill say it again, R.I.P Tom Petty.
Ever since Tom died, half his songs bring tears to my eyes. Had to take them off my playlists that I use while commuting, people look at you strangely, if you have tears running down your face, just sitting in a bus or train. Still listen to his songs all the time.
Many people seem incapable of reading a complete post. I wrote that I removed his songs from the playlists I listen to while commuting, but that I still listen to his songs all the time. You know, in private in my home.
One of the radio tunes of my childhood. Never knew who was behind this, I’m thankful to GTA for leading me to better look in to Tom. RIP and thank you ❤
yup same, when I saw "Tom Petty" in the description of the GTA 6 trailer It sounded familiar until I found this and realized why! I've also heard a few of his other popular songs too growing up. Many songs i've heard but never known who actually sang it
Yeah! My therapist played this song on the guitar the other day and he nailed every note and pitch it was beautiful! I found it funny when he sang the high notes it was funny but yeah hes a music therapist so that's why he was playing the guitar. Edit: I cant tell you anymore about it bc that's confidential information

what he died. omg I love u Tom Petty. How did he die? Does anyone know?
Sara -- he had a heart attack on Monday morning 2nd Oct.; his wife found him unconscious, and that night he died in the hospital. He was 66. :'-(
The saddest thing is that I don’t have a chance to listen to him Live 😔😔. The happiest thing is that we are blessed to enjoy his unique art and legacy. I love Tom Petty 💚❤️
Saddest thing for me is I grew up in Gainesville where he is from and I never got to meet him
Master piece!!
This song helps me cry
@@thomasnavejas500 Sure it's great but not as great as actually seeing Tom Petty play
@@flamesofthepast9895 We are grateful to enjoy his music every day, all day.
2024 we still jamming to this song❤
Another genius has left the building. Thanks for sharing your talents - you will be missed!😢
Yeah, odd that they really do tend to have a very short stay here on Earth.
You would wonder what's behind it...
So many young dead legends: I've lost count now. It's almost like they got wacked out for not toeing the line or something.... 🤔🤔
Of all the musicians that have passed away lately, this one hurts most of all.
Chris Cashman I totally agree with you there 😞
Kobe!
Chris Cashman Yeah. Gotta agree. loved that rythym player of acdc Malcolm young And frontman for tragically hip Gord. Downey
Chris Cornell got me in the feels
@Dee Jay oh really??!
"im gonna leave this world for a while" you may leave this world but you wont leave everyone's heart.
Still one of my favorite songs by Tom , god bless you’re soul 🙏
When I was 16, I went on vacation to the US with my parents and we did a helicopter flight through the Grand Canyon. The pilot played this song and managed to time it in such a way that the chorus kicked in at the exact moment we were passing a cliff and the canyon would open up in front of us. It was amazing.
That's awesome
Isn't it awe-inspiring when events line up almost perfectly in life? Your Grand Canyon story is a phenomenal example of that. Sounds like a fantastic experience!
Sitting in a helicopter and hear something about "free falling"? 🤔 Hm, I don't know.
Wow must have been a nice experience. But isn't it too loud in a helicopter to listen to a song? I guess the volume of the song must have been loud also
What a legend!
I never get tired of this classic....just a perfect song....RIP Tom
young people will never know how good it is. I am 15 and I love tom since I was little!❤
I am 11 and these songs are my life. God bless Tom and the 80s!

Red we will never forget him
No one cares
Deer Tom Petty is a legend that’s why.
Passed too young. Well missed. Thanks for your music. R.I.P
Yeah, definitely too young; I actually thought Tom Petty was older. Death sucks.
tbh the dude was 66 and looked like 50...death always sucks but he was 66
I don't think 66 is what it used to be; i feel age 80 is the tipping point nowadays.
HE IS STILL ALIVE
wikipedia wrote it so....
I got to see Petty 12 times live, Petty sings my life story. What a beautiful soul.

First album was Greatest Hits. Thank you so much
I saw Tom Petty perform with the Heartbreakers three times. I was never disappointed at his concerts. He gave everyone his all every time. He was phenomenal.
God Bless YOU TOM PETTY THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT MUSIC! 😇😇😇
One of my favorite videos ever. As an 80s baby who doesn't remember much of the decade... this video gives me all the 80s feels.
Here because Tom was the bomb, never mind the lockdown.
“If a song is hard to play, you are not done writing it.” Tom Petty
My mother loved this song before she passed away with cancer 🎗🕊🙏🏻🕯😢😢😢
Playing this for my Dad as we slowly lose him. One of his favorite songs.

R.I.P. Tom Petty
October 20, 1950 - October 2, 2017
TheGamecube64Guy 18 more days until what would have been his 67th birthday and a week later after he ended his latest tour. May he rest in peace.
RIP Tommy P

Ok?
This maybe 25 years old, but it still sounds modern, a top tune.
Yeah! I thought this song was modern too! I think all of today's music sounds like this! I didn't know it was this old!
Andrew Todaro Are you stupid? Modern music does not sound like this.
Alex Newtian
Alex Newtian Modern music will never beat the classics. The "Student's surpass their masters" rule doesn't apply with people like Miley Cyrus and Nicki Manaj who get popular from the things they do not the music they make. If you could even call it music.
Alex Newtian thats right because modern music sounds like shit next to this.
Thank you Tom Petty for giving us timeless classics like this.
RIP Tom. What a terribly awful day it's been. :(
The shooting in Las Vegas....With over 58 killed and over 500 something wounded. And now Tom passes away? F*ck this day.
A song about leaving a woman you love cause of how much she helped you and changed you for the better but made you realize you ain’t ready yet.

And now she is 9 and actually requests these songs on the drive to school every morning , makes me lower it when we get close to school though lol , got forbid her friends may actually hear real musicians right .....
musicmankenn my first memory is with this song when I was 4
musicmankenn that is super sad. I wish he was still here. My step mom started to cry when she hered what happened! My brother and me would sing a bunch of his songs and we still do

Hi Matt, How you doing
If you live in Los Angelos for sure
@@benjason_94 I’ve never lived in Los Angeles and I don’t see how living there would make that song any better either.
It just has a lot of Los Angelos symbolism in the lyrics and I feel it would mean more to people from there
Rest in Peace, Tom Petty.

What a lovely comment !!!!!
Wasn't the biggest fan of his, but he has a song or two in the soundtrack of my life

Ever since Tom died, half his songs bring tears to my eyes. Had to take them off my playlists that I use while commuting, people look at you strangely, if you have tears running down your face, just sitting in a bus or train.
Still listen to his songs all the time.
You'll put them back sometime in the future.
Same.. just isn't the same
It sounded like you really didn’t want to go, and that’s ok.
Many people seem incapable of reading a complete post.
I wrote that I removed his songs from the playlists I listen to while commuting, but that I still listen to his songs all the time.
You know, in private in my home.
You mean it's strange to ride public transportation with tears running down your face, in 2020?
