Yes I feel lucky to have lived those times as a 90's kid. I listen to songs from the past to remember what we had, so I can be strong for the people around me in the current times. It definitely feels like things have taken a few giant steps back, but I won't surrender to the evil that exists on this planet today. Just keep moving forward, and be the light for others that are in the dark.
Totally. I feel fortunate to have grown up in the 80s and 90s. This song chokes me up, happy and sad. Takes years to fully understand the term bittersweet

@DaAlski78520 because everyone likes to think their super popular favs are unique to them and no one else knows they exist or how good they are. Almost everytime I see someone say someone is underrated its usually super popular. Musicians Ive seen listed as underrated: Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, black Sabbath, Queen, Michael Jackson, Prince, Nirvana, Justin Beiber, Kylie Minogue, Sister Sledge....and literally every other band when people dont want to admit the music they like is popular.
My dad got me into The Wallflowers, after his funeral I turned on the radio in his kitchen and this song started playing. Fucks me up every time since then. Great song, can't turn it off no matter how much it brings me back to that moment. RIP dad, this one's for you.

My highschool sweetheart and I got our first apartment, 2nd floor of a beautiful old brick, Victorian era house with massive windows. An apple and a pear tree right across the street. We spent a few weeks renovating, replacing lathe and plaster horse hair walls packed with old newspapers. Laughing, sweating, making love on the stripped wood floors amongst the drywall dust and drop sheets. Not a care in the world. Played this album over and over. Sadly people forget why they fell in love, the grow apart. Heart wrenching and warming at the same time. ❤💔❤️
People continually talk about One Headlight, but this song absolutely wrecks me; makes me have chills , makes me tear up. I don't know why but it really really hits me, and I always thought it was the better single. I don't know why it's not more popular. I think that every first single is better than the second one that always ends up being more popular for whatever reason. Classic, a point in my life where everything was right as rain for me. I was in my late 20's, hot wife, a baby girl, good job, new car, new home and perfect tunes playing and I didn't even know it. This song is bitter sweet, brings me back for a minute - but the present forces its ugly head of aging, loss and growing sadness. But, this is why we keep singing. Rock on brother and thanks for the music that lives on no matter what.❤😊
The call and answer singing between Duritz and Dylan just slays me. Every time. And the slide licks by Campbell, who is a god, kills me. The perfect tune in every aspect.
This one will forever touch me. From a time where cell phones and computers hadn't taken over the world yet. Where you had to go out and live it to experience it.
+Steve Celestino Well, fellow gramps, here's a bit of advice. Remember who you were back then but don't forget who we are today. And 40 is the new 30.. at least that's what I really hope because the music I grew up with is from the 80s.. ;)
+Steve Celestino yeah, I remember my whole world was in a little black book I kept in my back pocket.. Just a few hundred bytes of today's thumb-drive. The world was a much bigger place back then and plenty of room to breathe, live and all the time to do it in.
That's what makes it special and amazing, over produced and loud songs are incapable of make people feel anything, and then these guys find the perfect arrangement of notes and create an everlasting memory, that's magic.
Such a powerful song. Jacob Dylan talking to Julian Lennon. "The same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me, Now it's drawing me in. 6th ave heartache." Talking about what it's like to be the sons of legends. And that shot of catcher in the rye in the pocket really hit it home. Somehow while singing about John's murder he managed to communicate what it means to be an Icon's son and Julian may be the only one on earth who could understand this as deeply as Jacob. It's not just about the fame but what John and Bob were famous for.
@Z Q That's an intriguing dynamic maybe. In light of The Only Difference lyrics too. Son looks very Lennon. Bet the band's newest album is considerable inspo.
For me, this album shows that despite the fact that Jacob will never achieve the fame his father did, he is every bit as talented as his father is. This entire album is every bit as good as anything Bob ever put out.
I feel that the world, myself included, wrote off this band because it's Bob's kid and no one can be Bob. It's a shame I've never given them the chance until now. Such a great band. Amazing lyrics
Jakob is a superb musician in his own right whose Compassion for people and life is So Portrayed through not just his music and many Guest appearance's with tributes to others But hugely successful with his many show's his voice and playing just to my mind comes So Naturally ❤️ I wonder why!❤️
If the song speaks to you ,think back to the moment it spoke to you and tell us all the personal struggle......thanx for the moment as i am drawn in..............................
Growing up a teenager in the 80's was incredible...and being a young adult in the 90's was a perfect followup. I feel so bad for the kids and young people of today...what a horrible world they will have to endure.
"A siren screams, shots ring out, a stranger cries . . ." The boys in the band don't look too unhappy with all that. But man, that's where I grew up! Manhattan. (*sigh*) Your parents told you to just ignore all that stuff: "If it's not happening to you you don't need to worry about it." I mean wtf, but you had to do it. And the omniscientific "Don't ever talk to strangers. And try not to look at them." They wouldn't explain, past that some strangers could do "bad things", and you never knew who that would be. Oh well, I love life fiercely. And I love the Wallflowers. Really smartntight. I'd love to hear somebody like Bob Dylan bein backed by these guys, it'd be awesome.
Raymond Sanchez , you can say that again ray. gi joes and matchbox cars were still a vision in the rear view mirror. we were boys on the cusp of being men, but our childhood was still only a day behind us. now, as i approach my 35th birthday, it is but a fleeting memory, and life is constant struggle of responsibility
In my mid 20s my life fell apart after some traumatizing experiences and the onset of Bipolar Disorder. I used to attend an IPRT program that put me back on track and it was in Soho just off of where 6th Avenue begins around Spring St. Anyway, I met a lot of troubled people there, some that had been homeless or had really bad things happen to them but were mostly still hanging on. And every day after the day was over I would head home and walk a different avenue on my way north, but usually 6th ave. Things eventually turned around for me but this song really hits me hard when I play it as I wonder whatever became of all those people.
I didn't appreciate this song when it came out back in the day. Now with all the crap new music these days I have a whole new appreciation for it. Hadn't heard it in forever then hear it in a grocery store lol and the melody came right back to me, when home and played it here and it brought me back to when new music was amazing. This song is a gem.
I just saw them tonight! At the Appell Center in York Pa. In 2023. After crushing on Jakob since the 80s it was a wonderful performance! Tight ass musicians! I'm so glad they played my hometown.
I'm 98 years old and still love this band. I heard them for the first time 21 years ago and have been a fan ever since. Now everyone in my nursing home listens to the Wallflowers. Also, I'm completely lying about all of this.
Good Story. If your Going to tell a Lie tell a Big One. It Keeps You Out Jail and the Cemetery. But at 98 and Going Strong You already Knew that. Keep the Grannies Smiling for Me. I'm a 101 myself and died 4 yrs ago.
The closing of the chapter (last couple of years 90s-mid00s) 😢😢😢😢 what a blast it was to be a teenager during that last amazing Era. To those dreams of a place that do not exist anymore, here we're young and having a great time. Cheers
Year my mother passed. Realized life was never going to be the same and was relieved I didn't have to keep up the facade but in truth I could express my true feeling so I adopted new ones that were not shameful to the masses. Even then I cared only for myself
I love me some mid 90s. Life was grand. This song embodied a bit of anger and revenge but with a touch of optimism in the end. No ones lyrics, music, voice and essence is quite like Jakob and his crew in this one. In my hometown of Cullman, Alabama I've had a lot of 6th Ave. Heartache. Hits close to home.
This song reminds me of a time my son was getting into the same wild things I did as a teen I played this song and told him to never forget it he turned out to be a wonderful young man It still tears me up every time I hear it
+Allan Ostermann Well, I might get hit for this but .. I've never been a BD fan. I acknowledge his prose and turn of a phrase... he just wasn't my cup of tea. So to me, Jacob did fantastic. I just wish he'd went on and gotten more airplay.
This song was released more than 25 years ago. Gosh, feels like just yesterday I was seeing the song's video on MTV. Where has all the time gone? I have no idea... All I know is I am now 45 yrs old 😥 I have nothing to show for it...
So many great memories of this time! Living in my studio apartment with my first true taste of independence. I was 21 and life was so easy but I didn’t realize how much harder it was going to get.
Great song, the only I love by the Wallflowers. I love little things that often go unnoticed...here it's Adam Duritz of The Counting Crows doing backing vocals.
listened this one 19 times today as i used to when i was 18...turned 38 just today...life have changed...powerful songs like this remains always the same....here..there..everywhere...
Great song. The slide guitar sounds a lot like George Harrison style with the Beatles and his solo work. A mix of Bob Dylan and the Beatles can never fail. Love the song.
+Douglas Green Yes, The guitar solo is clearly inspired by George's sweet All Things Must Pass era sound. A guitar solo you can sing...that was George.
The Lord used a clip of this song in a dream to show that He understood the persecution i was facing for following Him one night. "The same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me" was the clip. And in that dream i felt the love of The Lord Jesus Christ so beautifully, more than i ever have before. It was holy ecstacy. Nothing like the love of Jesus. And once you experience it, you'll never be the same. Even if you decide to go back to the old life, you won't be comfortable in it because you know that perfect love and satisfaction come from Jesus alone. And there were more things in that dream Jesus gave me but this song always has reminded me of how strong and beautiful His love was that night. And in the dream when i felt His love i felt a strong sense of camaraderie with Him like 2 in the same war. No one and nothing like Jesus.
Woke up this morning with this song in my head. Saw the Wallflowers perform it live on September 21st, 1997 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. Just perfect. That B3 is phenomenal.
@@bryanjfitzgerald5196 I saw them in concert at a very small dance club in San Francisco about 25 years ago. They had the audience at the first note... One of the best concerts I ever saw. I didn't even think about Bob Dylan till afterwards.
Jakob Dylan showing clearly that he inherited some of his dad's songwriting & performing genes. The brilliant slide guitar on this track is by Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and the great music video was directed by the legendary David Fincher (Alien 3, Seven, Fight Club, The Game, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl, to name but a few).
From 1986 to 1998 was the best years of my life I'm 62 now and I look back on this music and wish so much in my heart to go back it was such a sweet time in my life
That 86-98 timeframe really does seem to resonate with a lot of us. What a time to be alive. Seems like everything started falling off in 99 and hasn't really came back to good.
This track was in my head for days, 7/2020. It disappeared finally, then just yesterday as I walked thru the grocery store, it played LOUD over the PA system. Gawd I f*cking miss the 1990s ❤
I wish I had black and white captures like this with my crew. We now realize that these are time capsules that we never wanted, and now are so sorry we didn't think ahead
I remember taking this CD from by brother and listening to it as a little girl who was only 10 or 11. And now that I am 27 these songs really hit home. Music is beautiful the way it can take you somewhere that nothing else can. Now if only I can get time to stop for a few minutes.
Real music, poetry set to a rhythm transcends time and space, it is waves of sound that touches are very souls and stirs up emotions as though it only happened moments ago, it is limitless and has no boundaries and does not see race, it is a higher consciousness that takes us to the minds eye and brings us back again, enjoy these most beautiful sounds!
It's not just the music, its the memories that you formed based off the songs timeline. You can probably remember the smell, the weather and how you felt
I feel like I'm lost in the city, just looking for my old friend......"96?! Where are you 96?! I love. I miss you. I need you back bro! I need you back!" 😢
I can't get enough of the 90s. and I was there for the whole thing from 10 years old to 20. great ages to be in that decade. I'm blessed to grow up then.

Adam duritz really made this song complete with them amazing backup vocals, and thank you for the knowledge of this masterpiece
This song has been assigned to the day my husband broke my heart. Even the sad days need to be remembered. It's during the heartbreaks we grow.
Well said
I am 73 still play this tune at Gigs, gets a great reception!
I feel that the world, myself included, wrote off this band because it's Bob's kid and no one can be Bob. It's a shame I've never given them the chance until now. Such a great band. Amazing lyrics
Jakob is still writing great songs. This one is from the band’s latest album Exit Wound: ua-cam.com/video/lYB3e30lHKU/v-deo.html
Jakob is a superb musician in his own right whose Compassion for people and life is So Portrayed through not just his music and many Guest appearance's with tributes to others But hugely successful with his many show's his voice and playing just to my mind comes So Naturally ❤️ I wonder why!❤️
My son’s name is Jakob Dylan. I listened to this CD over and over when I found myself alone, under 21 and pregnant.
Wow
This reminds me of all my lonely nights in prison
If the song speaks to you ,think back to the moment it spoke to you and tell us all the personal struggle......thanx for the moment as i am drawn in..............................
You’re brave for giving birth and getting through adversity! ❤👍💪
Growing up a teenager in the 80's was incredible...and being a young adult in the 90's was a perfect followup. I feel so bad for the kids and young people of today...what a horrible world they will have to endure.
We were truly, truly lucky.
Generation X 4EVER!!! \m/

ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER! !
+Sherry Ann Freels Mitchell Love it too! Last one to send me off most nights! Love the keyboard
Wallflowers and Counting Crows.. .. YES PLEASE!
Of the 2 Dylan’s I will, at FIRST, pick the cute one, I gue$$. Then neither won.
Thats one Great Song!!!
This is when Music was actually music. Cannot beat our era of music. Proud to be a Mill.
What is mill
This song sounds like a cold, cloudy day that you wish would never end.
That was perfect.
Yes, Gomez or Morticia Addams.
You're not the only one thinks that
This is a winter and cloudy days song.
That's just about The Best comment I've read on UA-cam all year, Bro!! Props to You!! I Fucking Love this song!!
Except in winter!
Hard to believe this song is 20 years old boy I miss the 90's such a simpler time for me
amen
You just ruined the moment 😂
Raymond Sanchez That's for sure!
Raymond Sanchez Thats when Libtard Democrates were in Charge. Now there is no Jobs because of it. NAFTA.
I had NO IDEA Adam Duritz sang high notes on this. Holy shit. Thanks, Rick Beato!
I was raised on his fathers music and now I will die with his sons music.
That walk from 42nd Street to Central Park on a winter morning, so magical! I loved every moment of it
Man these guys hit it out of the park on this one. Great song!!!
Jacob has the eyes/talent/voice of Dylan along with unique ability to express his view of the world. Remarkable!
I just saw them tonight! At the Appell Center in York Pa. In 2023. After crushing on Jakob since the 80s it was a wonderful performance! Tight ass musicians! I'm so glad they played my hometown.
Rip Mike. You made many wonderful sounds. God bless you and keep you. 😞
Can you believe this summer will mark 20 YEARS since this came out? Music from another time. A better time.
+J. Carter Imagine how I feel at 55 lol...
Yes!
They are touring this summer too! Going to see them :)
Oh my God.....I was 8 years old...
....Ugh, I have officially entered "geezer-dome".
I'm 98 years old and still love this band. I heard them for the first time 21 years ago and have been a fan ever since. Now everyone in my nursing home listens to the Wallflowers. Also, I'm completely lying about all of this.
Listen to their new one on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. Their first first in 11years.
🤣🤣
Good Story. If your Going to tell a Lie tell a Big One. It Keeps You Out Jail and the Cemetery. But at 98 and Going Strong You already Knew that. Keep the Grannies Smiling for Me. I'm a 101 myself and died 4 yrs ago.
you ALMOST had me :). LOL ...
Great one😊
Song came out in the prime of my life. Now I'm 5 years from 60 with aches and pains. Where has the time went?
The closing of the chapter (last couple of years 90s-mid00s) 😢😢😢😢 what a blast it was to be a teenager during that last amazing Era. To those dreams of a place that do not exist anymore, here we're young and having a great time. Cheers

@@Spiritualchick82 Yes, I understand as well here I am working desk job 35 years old wondering where life took me.

Year my mother passed. Realized life was never going to be the same and was relieved I didn't have to keep up the facade but in truth I could express my true feeling so I adopted new ones that were not shameful to the masses. Even then I cared only for myself
Nice. !!!
Epic. There's NOTHING in today's music that even comes close to this, I doubt there ever will be again.
I agree! The lyrics have to be the most powerful lyrics I have ever heard
Ah...the magic of great music 🎶...some fine people in Alabama...greetings from Australia 🇦🇺...
This song reminds me of a time my son was getting into the same wild things I did as a teen I played this song and told him to never forget it he turned out to be a wonderful young man It still tears me up every time I hear it
Soo good! Jacob didn't just coast, cause of his dad. He's a brilliant lyricist, and wrote great, great songs.
True my friend
Allan Ostermann I agree Allan.Inherent genetic talent has to be worked at to be of any value.
+Allan Ostermann Well, I might get hit for this but .. I've never been a BD fan. I acknowledge his prose and turn of a phrase... he just wasn't my cup of tea. So to me, Jacob did fantastic. I just wish he'd went on and gotten more airplay.
+princessoffire1107 No I totally agree with you BD was mediocre at best. Jacob can actually sing.
+Allan Ostermann Yes.
This song was released more than 25 years ago. Gosh, feels like just yesterday I was seeing the song's video on MTV.
Where has all the time gone? I have no idea... All I know is I am now 45 yrs old 😥
I have nothing to show for it...
42 here.. Goddamn we had it good
I feel ya brother. Time flies, people come and go. But it's a blessing to be alive.
Yes you have alot of memories to show for it
I'm 44. I miss those days. I'm glad I was a young man before social media, smart phones, ect.
I feel so nostalgic about the 90's that I actually feel sick for not being able to go back.

I will never not listen to this song when it comes on. There's no mistaking what song is on when you hear the slide guitar at the beginning. ❤
Same. I don't listen to today's music tho.
Those were some tough years...but the music was amazing.
that slide guitar tho ❤️
@@ambermcewing Right!?
Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers played the slide guitar part. It’s awesome.
No there is no coat tail here dylan is a brilliant writer and musician, one of the finest bands to come down the pipe. Period!
Is this not one of the best songs ever? Just love it. Touches the soul.
Mark Cox really does I love it
Concur the guitar gets me every time. Awesome lyrics

@@Clay4legacy 24 years (2020). Where did it all go. Music today is SHIT!
Great song. The slide guitar sounds a lot like George Harrison style with the Beatles and his solo work. A mix of Bob Dylan and the Beatles can never fail. Love the song.
Douglas Green Great comment bro...I agree with you completely ~ forever rock on...
That was played by Mike Campbell
+ErnieMars Is that right? That's cool to know, thanks for mentioning it.
+Douglas Green Yes, The guitar solo is clearly inspired by George's sweet All Things Must Pass era sound. A guitar solo you can sing...that was George.
The mighty Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on Guitar on this album. Maybe not all tracks but quite a few.
One of the most beautiful songs Ive ever heard and Ive heard some classics. Underrated frankly
This song helped me deal with the hustle and bustle that is NYC. Thank you. Your melody softened the blow.
Two of my favorite singers together. Jakob Dylan and Adam Duritz. This decade of music is timeless.
Woke up this morning with this song in my head. Saw the Wallflowers perform it live on September 21st, 1997 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. Just perfect. That B3 is phenomenal.
The 90s really was the last Great Decade for America. Cherish it, we knew a World that's never coming back.
you're quite right in my opinion.
I think some amazing music came out of the US from 70s through to the 90s. Definitely a time when music was being pushed to new heights.
Yes, I was just telling my Son that yesterday.

Thanks to Bush the younger and Trump.
This whole album was awesome back in my school days and some things never change..it still is one of my favorites!! WALLFLOWERS still rocking it!!!
My dad loves listening to the wallflowers bringing down the horse album RIP papa.
2020 and still jamming to this tune.

@@bryanjfitzgerald5196 I saw them in concert at a very small dance club in San Francisco about 25 years ago. They had the audience at the first note... One of the best concerts I ever saw. I didn't even think about Bob Dylan till afterwards.

@Michael Cook greetings from Keylargo FL
Mr. Duritz and his harmonies make this song still great in ‘23
Jakob Dylan showing clearly that he inherited some of his dad's songwriting & performing genes.
Thanks for the background info.

They were definitely underated!!
That 86-98 timeframe really does seem to resonate with a lot of us. What a time to be alive. Seems like everything started falling off in 99 and hasn't really came back to good.
