PX is sherry :) Funny story: Peter Siemens was a german wine maker, he moved to spain te make sherry. The people over there couldn't pronounce it right and so Pedro Ximinez it is. Love Tjerk
That's a fun story, but it's apocryphal 🙂
Is it just me or did they keep referring to the PX as port and not sherry?
yep
Yep. PX is Sherry not Port
@@syro666 PX is a grape varietal, sure, but it can't legally be called a PX product unless it's aged in Spain, and port can't legally be called port unless it's made in Portugal. I've never heard of PX port. the PX designation is unique to Sherry as far as I'm aware.
One of these is not like the other.
That was all me. I said Port cask by mistake and then that’s all my brain remembered as we went forward.
Full brain fart. But we have a rule that we keep mistakes, so there you go :)
Happy Monday Morning all you Magnificent Bastard's :)
One of my absolute favorite bottles. Glad you guys got your hands on some
I have fallen in love with PX and this is my new go to whiskey when im alone or a really good pal can appreciate it.
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S.... 🥃
I got 6 bottles of this. One of my faves. Only 2 bottles left.
I tried this at the Palace Bar in Dublin in March 2023 and love it! I wish it was a regular release bottle…SO GOOD!!!
I loved Redbreast PX. I get a lot of orange and milk chocolate. I’m on my last of 4 bottles.
Yes they keep saying port! Not port.
Correct 👍
The Lustau has become unobtainium around here... Everyone has the 12. ONE store has A bottle of 15.
I DID find a nice port cask finish Irish called One Foot Cock. Finished in Buffalo, NY. No idea where they sourced it, but ot tastes a lot like Redbreast. Delicious stuff.
Daniel, I see you referencing the Vortex Manipulator ya big nerd! Love you guys! 💙💙
I've had all of the Redbreast line & my favorite so far is the Lustau. Thanks for the video guys 🥃 Sláinte 🇮🇪
I would almost agree. I'm still debating between it and CS. The Lustau has that amazing silky smooth (caramel?) feel and flavor that is just so unique...that that CS is so bold and delicious. The flip back and forth to me, but for $80...Lustau is worth it and wish I would have bought 2.
@@dyerseve07 Irish is definitely my favorite 👍🏻 Normally I have 3 Redbreast in my cabinet the regular 12 also the cask strength & Lustau all are very good 🥃 it's just on what kind of day you're having 🤣
@-RONNIE HA! Very true. Redbreast is my go to whiskey. I've obtained the 12, 15, 12 CS, Lustau and recently the PX.... trying to get the Kentucky Oak and Tawny Port, but those are very hard to find in Ohio.
@@dyerseve07 Normally I stay with Irish & Scotch. I'm trying to have more Bourbons just to have a better selection. However I only like a few so far all the others I tried don't taste right to me. That's why I watch It's Bourbon Night channel I just make a list & check them off when I go to bars
@-RONNIE I've dabbled with scotch and have, honestly, been using it for mixing. Monkey Shoulder has been my go to for sours.
Here's a tip. You have to crumple the paper a little more compact and aerodynamic and put some back spin on it. Also point your elbow to the trash can. Lol
It's a bad time to visit Yosemite. The Spring Floods are still affecting the park.
Hopefully they've cleaned up a lot of the mess, but just a month ago, they were closing the Valley due to the Merced flooding....
2:00 I have a university professor in the family that's the same way...projects their voice to the back row just naturally now.
They're the one person in my life that I know I don't need to put the phone on speakerphone in order to walk around like the phone's on speakerphone.
I’ve had a similar thought but with pre-aging the wort
you're making me hungry with these tasting notes 🤤repeating jammy and vanilla shortbread, I just keep picturing those jam filled shortbread cookies
Gents,
It is Sherry and NOT Port!!!
Iowa Legendary Rye is already doing a distillation, age, second distillation, second age with their Purple Label whiskey.
Video idea: a tour of Daniel and Rex's personal whisky collections? Could be fun.
I found this too late. Was paying $22 a shot until my local Irish bar ran out. I hope they do another run.
This stuff is so good. Love all redbreast!
Glorious stuff! I was fortunate enough to find a bottle so I could make a video. The damn thing did NOT last very long and I don't know if there will ever be more of it... -_-
I absolutely love this bottle
I would love to come and do a video with y'all and just show everyone the unexpected aspect of whisky making and interview of what made y'all get into where you are today
Sorry boys Port is not the same as Sherry. Ports are generally aged far longer so port casks generally have more effect on a finish of 12 months than a Sherry. Calling a PX cask finish a port finish is incorrect but also wrong due regional varietal methods and the effect on the Whisky. Hence why it’s clearly labeled PX Sherry Cask finished. Nice review!!
oh they are gunna do a "Double D" whiskey experiment... double distilled in Texas.. everything is bigger in Texas
I tried the red breat 12 out of a tulip glass that you guys sample with all the time, and all i could taste was jameson, but i put the red breast 12 in a larger rocks glass, swirled it to let it breath, and tasted all the notes ypu guys talk about.
Hmm wonder where I can find this in my area. I just came back from a 4 day solo camping trip, and I took a bottle of RB 12 year with me. 😊
Seeing the older bottling of RB CS 12 makes me too emotional to finish this video. To be continued...
Rex loved the Redbreast. Who would have guessed?
Question when you review a whiskey that is either not your jam or is just flat out bad do you have a special shelf for those and do you use them as guides for new bourbon students. Not that I want to shame any distillers but sometimes it just happens.
I'm not sorry for this, Daniel set me up for it.....
If you know it 😎
THE CLEAN STATE!
I've got the 12 cask strength and all i get is the chocolate orange. Maybe some heavy tobacco on the later end but really nothing else
I'm jealous. I can't get hold of any redbreast in Sweden at the moment
It's my favorite ❤
Sounds like a lovely jam tea biscuit 😋
I've done stripping runs where there were some tasty hearts in the middle at about 40% ABV (pot still, no active reflux) but I've also done stripping runs where the heads bled right into tails. But I definitely got hearts out of the spirit run in both cases. A lot can be learned from tasting throughout both the stripping and spirit runs.
When it comes to the stripping run part, I can hear the mice in Rex’s head running as he is coming up with a crazy tribe video.
"And we shall call it...The Aging Stripper."
-Rex W.(probably)
The experimental whiskey at the end should be called 'The Aging Stripper'.
Not 1st
Curious with Daniel's keeping out maybe that's worth a pool what are everyone's regular whiskeys are
I thought you guys re-distilled barrel aged whiskey already.
What ever happened to Red Breast 23? Is that now another named version?
Rex, when you see El Capitan in Yosemite, just imagine Alex Honnold climbed that with no safety ropes, by himself...in under 4 hours
Good morning Gentlemen.
Isn’t Bowman twice distilled Pappy/Weller distillate?
Mash 2 so closer to Blanton's
The PX edition gives "oatmeal raisin cookie" for me.
The metric system is the work of the devil! My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead and that the way I likes it!!
obsurio magnificum... bravo
Love the idea for stripping, aging, redistilling, and aging. It's weird, it's perfect.
And we shall call it...The Aging Stripper.
MB’s if you could only have one Irish on your bar forever to drink what is your choice and why?? Just inquiring lol
I’d pick Killowen Rum and Raisin Single Malt or Redbreast 10 year. (10 was only released in Ireland) if I’m not paying for it, Midleton Silent Distillery 😂
Actually the RedBreast PX is the best I've had thus far. Otherwise Teeling Blackpitts.
It would be a hard fight for me between red breast 12 cask strength or Ireland exclusive Jamison’s black barrel 100 proof that I have
Which bar? If it's the pub, I could bear it being a Redbreast. But at the home bar it'll be "my current fave", which at the moment is Writers Tears Copper Pot.
Actually, scratch that about the pub. The real fun in a good whiskey pub is the 5 minutes strolling up and down the shelves trying to pick just one.
It's not port 🤦♂
I do actually prefer whiskeys that are 40% ABV
I dont get the point with whiskeys that are stronger than that.
Higher ABV typically carries more flavor.
Point with your elbow when throwing
In the next few months Rex will make a nosing reference that reminds him of Yosemite.
200 quid a bottle!!!!?
PX is sherry
Daniel needs a hogshead size waste basket.
We need a second camera set up to watch Daniel fail at his attempts to make his note paper in the trash. Just for science.
So Daniel doesn't feel so bad, that is called growing up with Latina women...you never win but congrats on projecting that voice ;)
I'm actually favoring Powers John's Lane over Redbreast at the moment. Better mouthfeel IMHO.
Powers is more Bourbon Finish, Redbreast uses more Sherry Finish. The mashbill is different also
1st!
i gotta know the story on that big ass necklace
Daniel is also probably a little deaf from being in a band.
\m/ X_x \m/ Speaking loud can be a sign of hearing loss, might need hearing aids.
I see a bottle that Rex is gonna be taking home.
