You should do videos like this more often. It is really hard to have a favorite colony or to get too interested in any one colony (or colonies) because I know that they will be mostly forgotten after having their time in the spotlight.
Noooooo! I'm so sorry to hear about the termites. I was so looking forward hearing about how they were doing :( Ants are cool and all, but the whole "king and queen" the termites have going made them so very interesting to follow. Really hope you are able to keep them some day.

I have some news to share for today, In philippines the nuptial flight summer is about to end, but I'm not able to antkeep yet because my parents won't let me, so I'm just here explaining that I ran out of time to finally start antkeeping. Or is it? I still keep seeing fire ant alates (solepnosis invicta) in my bathroom just looking for a perfect place to grow their colony, but I have no choice but to leave them alone for them to start their colony in peace, I hope I become an antkeeper soon when I grow up. By the way you're just the best ant channel ever, my favorite antkeeping channel as some of its old tutorial videos helped me gain more knowledge about ants, and how to antkeep of course. Thank you for making all these ant videos, they make me feel like I'm in a place with different antlovers, kinda like my best friend Luther. But all I wanna say is that I can't go antkeeping until I grow up, but AntsCanada, you're the best antkeeping channel I've ever seen.

Termites tend to care a lot about heat and humidity and they do a lot to regulate it themselfes. In those tiny containers they have hardly any chance to make choices or use deep soil to adjust their own situation. It might be worth a thought, not to use the ant-approach for them, but to start off with a terrarium with different soils in different spots, with a humidity gradient (misting on one side), with the possibility to utilize "morning sun" (heat lamp in one spot only) and with a variety of wood, bark and leave sources inside, as well as with spots of additional shadow produces by plants. (maybe with isopods and springtails). If you introduce multiple pairs into such a setup, you can check out, which conditions and ressources the thermites chose in an indoor-setup and it would give them all opportunities.
I am also a content creator and I understand how long it takes to make high quality videos!! I appreciate that you also do a real-time video as well. Thanks for being an inspiration to many of us fans. I didn't even know I liked bugs/ants until I started watching your channel!! Much respect from one of your family members!! 💯❤🙏❗
This low-tech video was VERY interesting. It was great to see the behind-the-scenes colonies and test tube shots and get all the information about it. Take as much time as you need between videos - we'll all be here for the next one. Stay safe.
Wildlife biologist here, a couple things about the birds. You are most likely finding them around your property due to the large glass windows you have. It's one of the most common causes of bird fatalities and is often referred to as "window strikes". You can add UV stickers that are hard for us to see but clearly visible to birds. I would recommend adding them to your windows to cut down on the risk to birds. Another thing, it is most likely illegal for you to possess those birds under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. This is an agreement between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico (a few others too) that says it is illegal to pursue, hunt, take, capture, kill, possess, sell, purchase, barter, import, export, or transport any migratory bird, or any part, nest, or egg or any such bird, unless authorized under a permit.
I don't know but the black crazy ants give Mongol vibs: they came seemingly out of nowhere, they had control of the "valleys" but were unable to capture the"fortress" and they were going around like crazy (🥁) I think a nomadic style setup could work for them
I think the realization that the termites probably stay cool by their nest being underground, this could help in providing better setups when you attempt another termite nest. I always wondered why last year's attempts weren't given more space to bury their nests. I hope next year's nuptial flights gives the channel another opportunity to try again.
I really enjoyed this ant room update. Thank you. My son introduced me to your channel way back when you had a habitat with the tubes running all around and 6th were still in Canada. Love your channel.
Oh that is sad, those termites I had hopes they would be fine. Hopefully you learn a bunch and keep some termites eventually, I look forward to learning about termites too! 😃
Fyi - want to let you know, this is one of my favorite videos of yours. I've been watching for around 6 months or so, always curious about the stuff happening behind the scenes. Big fan of the un-scripted, more real talk too. This was an excellent video, and I hope you continue to do them! Thank you for sharing, enjoy your trip!
i think i speak for all of us when i say we dont mind you taking a break from "high production" videos. heck, most of us probably would be content with a couple of paragraphs recapping the week in YT posts. something that i think a lot of creators forget, most of us probably aren't upset when a video doesn't happen exactly when we expect it. often its more confusion and possibly concern. if you cant get a video done on time one week then i have no doubt just a quick update post "yeh, all is good. just need another day or two to finish this video" would be well accepted. there is a difference between being slack and slowing down or taking a step back. none of us think you're slack (heck, you had a damn house built around your hobby...). and just like we understood the less frequent and less edited videos during its construction so to will we understand if you need to skip over a weeks upload for one reason or another. the main thing is about documenting and sharing the ants (and distant relatives) activities and if taking a break from uploading heavily edited videos for a week or two helps then by all means. it also probably helps us appreciate the ants more imo. its like seeing a famous actor/actress off set without the makup. it feels "real" to me personally and helps ground the colonies as actual things and not some surreal construct that only exists when we are watching it. it also helps highlight the effort that goes into the "makup". from the camare angles to the lighting to the practical FX you do sometimes. it really does feel like meeting a celebrity in person vs seeing them on screen. life is a rollercoaster and has ups and downs. and considering that your whole YT carear revolves around "working with animals" i think some extra leniency for unpredictability is to be expected and accepted. i have gone on quite a tangent here but i think the point is burried in there somewhere; dont stress about upload scheduals. if a video isn't going to make it for the normal deadline then so be it. a heads up via YT post would be nice to let us know everything is (or, God forbit, isn't) ok would surely be appreciated but by no means necassrry (and mostly just to curb our anxieties).
This video was just as interesting as the other, more refined, videos that you make because it feels like we are walking around the ant room with you. Very cool!
Im so glad this channel is still going. I started watching this channel about 5 or 6 years ago and after a while I forgot about it, which I think is a stupid thing on my part. I dont think I could ever personally do anything like this man is doing and I think its amazing that hes been doing it for so long. Im proud to be a member of the AC Family. The content is great, keep it up. As for me, im gonna go binge and find out what I missed.
I started watching your termite episode then I saw this video. I just felt really sad. It was so promising. Anyway, thank you mikee for such a fun and knowledgeable series!
It's sad that the termites were lost, but you probably got closer than most people! Next year, you may need to check up on them more than once a week, considering how fragile their colonies seem.
Love this kind of video sometimes. So sad about the termites. Take your time, learn more, then try again. I wish I could keep a colony but I have them through you and your channel. Ant Love forever
Safe travels and enjoy your trip. I enjoy your story videos a lot. But I also like to get an "real world update" on your colonies like this from time to time 🙂
I really like you doing this kind of video from time to time, just to update us about all your work and effort you put in this channel. I started seeing your videos to learn english(at my own account) and now i wait every saturday just to watch a new one. Greetings from Argentina
I like this format of video over the sometimes more dramatical style of video's. A video like this is nicer to watch. (Tho of course the usual zoom ins are really cool). Good stuff!
My daughter and i love watching your videos amazing talent how you explain the whole thing my daughter got fascinated with ants and their colonies how they work together hand in hand its like watching a documentary film.
I thought you had climate control in the ant room? That ternute arc was super interesting and growing your own mushrooms at home is an interest of mine, so I was excited to see some termite mushrooms some day on the channel. Sad but life goes on.
This video is actually very helpful. Never knew that you released the old carpenter ants. In my opinion they are my favorite. but I understand release them could benefit the ecosystem. Glad that you got new ones.❤
I’m sorry to hear about the termites AC. I really enjoyed watching their story, but it happens and it’s all apart of the learning experience. I’m so happy to hear you caught multiple queen weaver ants tho!! Thank you for the full Ant Room update, I really enjoyed it! Ant Love Forever. 🐜❤️

Hey mate, will you make a video on when you will move in the ants from your old house. Cause i really miss the og dark knights. But these new ants are such a new vibe which i absolutely love Thank you. Ant ❤ forever
hello i love this type of video alot better when we get to see all of the setups. i have been following this channel from very close to the beginning. i have enjoyed all the videos and twists and turns throughout the time. i have been a member of the ac senate when it first was available. i look forward to seeing what new and fun ants call the ant room their new homes!!!
These chill vids are nice, I kinda like these personal talk vids instead of the heavily narrative story ones, not saying the story ones are bad, I just like these vids too.
I watch exotics lair too :-) I got to say it was nice to hear your normal voice. So sorry on the termites but hopefully they are not all gone. Have a great trip to Borneo :-)
Sorry to hear about the termites, but not surprised. As you noted, starting a fungus growing termite colony is a lot harder than starting an ant colony. I do appreciate learning that they are gone. I agree that focusing on other colonies might be a good idea at this time. Congratulations for finding the weaver ant queens, good luck with starting up a new colony or two.
I love the produced story videos but these kinds of videos have a special place in my heart. They have a more of a community feel to them. They remind us of how you're actually a real person & you're actually really keeping the ants, if that makes sense 😅 I was looking forward to seeing the termites again but I highly respect and appreciate your decision to lay off of them for a while. Seeing them would be cool but their safety & well-being is definitely a priority. Ant love forever! 🙆🐜🐜🐜
I’d love to see a video of you making a new roach farm! I also farm roaches for my collection and am always looking for new ways to update/improve their husbandry!
it could make sense that the termites flight and the sprouting occur at the same time. the spore released by the sprouting might be catching on the termites while they exit or fly and be part of the process the two have evolved to use.
Really like the more casual videos. Therw were a lot of very well scripted and high effort videos in a row and it felt a bit thick so this was some great fresh air and was very enjoyabile.

i think i speak for all of us when i say we dont mind you taking a break from "high production" videos. heck, most of us probably would be content with a couple of paragraphs recapping the week in YT posts. something that i think a lot of creators forget, most of us probably aren't upset when a video doesn't happen exactly when we expect it. often its more confusion and possibly concern. if you cant get a video done on time one week then i have no doubt just a quick update post "yeh, all is good. just need another day or two to finish this video" would be well accepted. there is a difference between being slack and slowing down or taking a step back. none of us think you're slack (heck, you had a damn house built around your hobby...). and just like we understood the less frequent and less edited videos during its construction so to will we understand if you need to skip over a weeks upload for one reason or another. the main thing is about documenting and sharing the ants (and distant relatives) activities and if taking a break from uploading heavily edited videos for a week or two helps then by all means. it also probably helps us appreciate the ants more imo. its like seeing a famous actor/actress off set without the makup. it feels "real" to me personally and helps ground the colonies as actual things and not some surreal construct that only exists when we are watching it. it also helps highlight the effort that goes into the "makup". from the camare angles to the lighting to the practical FX you do sometimes. it really does feel like meeting a celebrity in person vs seeing them on screen. life is a rollercoaster and has ups and downs. and considering that your whole YT carear revolves around "working with animals" i think some extra leniency for unpredictability is to be expected and accepted. i have gone on quite a tangent here but i think the point is burried in there somewhere; dont stress about upload scheduals. if a video isn't going to make it for the normal deadline then so be it. a heads up via YT post would be nice to let us know everything is (or, God forbit, isn't) ok would surely be appreciated but by no means necassrry (and mostly just to curb our anxieties).
Your voice sounds much better live, than in highly edited videos. Superb work overall. Congratulations and thanks for this content
I started watching your termite episode then I saw this video. I just felt really sad. It was so promising. Anyway, thank you mikee for such a fun and knowledgeable series!
I hope the centipede gets more love. It’s such an incredible creature and really does deserve more appreciation, for how fearsome it is.
I'm happy that you found new weaver ants! I was so sad when they vanished last year. I was hoping you could find new ones. Good luck!
Lesson learned. Sorry for the loss but on we go. Love the content. So glad i found this channel recently
Man... I would have loved to see more of your centipede. It's so cool!
Hey Antscanada I love your videos. Keep going❤
6:19 every time I see the leviathans I smile, thats how cool it is :D
I can’t wait to see more Weaver Ants though! They are my favorite ants! 😁
The updates are always nice! It was fun seeing what you had in the refrigerator. I wonder how many of the carpenter queen ants are going to live?
Safe travels and enjoy your trip.
I enjoy your story videos a lot. But I also like to get an "real world update" on your colonies like this from time to time 🙂
I LOVE YOU ANTSCANADA your videos are like a comfort show to me :)
Keep up the work Antscanada!
I really like you doing this kind of video from time to time, just to update us about all your work and effort you put in this channel. I started seeing your videos to learn english(at my own account) and now i wait every saturday just to watch a new one. Greetings from Argentina
💌
why so much hate for the centipede ? ;^; lovely video tho, your ant room is just awesome ! so sorry about the termites :< they'll be in our hearts
I like this format of video over the sometimes more dramatical style of video's. A video like this is nicer to watch.
(Tho of course the usual zoom ins are really cool). Good stuff!
Omfg how did i forget about this channel it is so great i am deeply ashamed of myself I’m sorry 😆
don't worry i also forgot while ago keep watching and you'll be fine
My daughter and i love watching your videos amazing talent how you explain the whole thing my daughter got fascinated with ants and their colonies how they work together hand in hand its like watching a documentary film.
I thought you had climate control in the ant room? That ternute arc was super interesting and growing your own mushrooms at home is an interest of mine, so I was excited to see some termite mushrooms some day on the channel. Sad but life goes on.
I do but the majority of ants need it hot.
@@AntsCanada are the mushrooms psilocybin or? just curious...
Guys i think that queen emi didn’t was a outcast but might was sick, that is why she was alone.
First
Yep
...
Thanks
Congrats!
yaa you are first i thought i was but nope you are congrats for being early
banger vid i watch all of your vds so please dont give up
This video is actually very helpful.
Maybe they meed higher humidity to maintain the fungus?
Most fungi need some form of rainfall to promote growing!
I complete fell in love with your usual Videos. Literally one of the most Interesting channels ive ever found but i also enjoy this type of content ngl
Hey mate, will you make a video on when you will move in the ants from your old house. Cause i really miss the og dark knights. But these new ants are such a new vibe which i absolutely love Thank you. Ant ❤ forever
I love the fact that you said basically what the actual Jabba the Hutt does, he’s old, fat, and happy.
You should do weekly room updates and go over changes with certain colonies
Wow this style of video is very refreshing! Thanks for all the updates! Best of luck to the new friends up and coming!
hello i love this type of video alot better when we get to see all of the setups. i have been following this channel from very close to the beginning. i have enjoyed all the videos and twists and turns throughout the time. i have been a member of the ac senate when it first was available. i look forward to seeing what new and fun ants call the ant room their new homes!!!
You're such a great person! Love your videos. Thank you for your hard work! It is always celebration to me seeing every new release!
These chill vids are nice, I kinda like these personal talk vids instead of the heavily narrative story ones, not saying the story ones are bad, I just like these vids too.
I haven’t watched your videos in over a year and wondered what you were up to. Sorry to hear about your termites!
I watch exotics lair too :-) I got to say it was nice to hear your normal voice. So sorry on the termites but hopefully they are not all gone. Have a great trip to Borneo :-)
I do like these "casual" videos every now and again. Great to hear your news and see the actual layout of the ant room
An actor and a singer on top of this channel. Either he doesn't sleep or he can move as fast as the Flash. Amazing.
Bruh the centipede like "what did i do?"
Will definately have to purchase the Ant Tower, if my honeypot queens make it to that stage.
I love the produced story videos but these kinds of videos have a special place in my heart. They have a more of a community feel to them. They remind us of how you're actually a real person & you're actually really keeping the ants, if that makes sense 😅
I was looking forward to seeing the termites again but I highly respect and appreciate your decision to lay off of them for a while. Seeing them would be cool but their safety & well-being is definitely a priority. Ant love forever! 🙆🐜🐜🐜
I’d love to see a video of you making a new roach farm! I also farm roaches for my collection and am always looking for new ways to update/improve their husbandry!
Respect bro, love what you do. Thank you for all the awesome videos and effort you put into sharing this with everyone.
MAN!!! I was really looking forward to the termite farm. I hope they all haven't passed... "It's Termite Love... Forever!"
PLEASE keep us updated on the Meranoplus bicolor colony!!! I have never really liked critters, but these are super cute!!
it could make sense that the termites flight and the sprouting occur at the same time. the spore released by the sprouting might be catching on the termites while they exit or fly and be part of the process the two have evolved to use.
Really like the more casual videos. Therw were a lot of very well scripted and high effort videos in a row and it felt a bit thick so this was some great fresh air and was very enjoyabile.
