@@2ToRamble You'd think he'd have been more on board, since being scary to talk to is one of Jasnah's signature traits. 😉😂 Edit: Oh, and yes it does help, actually. 🙂Also, I enjoy that you are so responsive to your commenters, so thank you for that! Always lifts my mood a bit. 😄
I know this was mentioned in part 1... but the audiobooks provide a good guide for name pronunciation. Not an easy task on its own. Credit given for leaning into it with confidence either way.
I think there is more to Tien than just being nice. all we got about him is from Kaladins point of view. I also read this theory that the stones he collected looked so special to him because he is better at seeing colours and patterns than most people, hinting at him being a lightweaver, like Shallan.
Great time watching this! It’s fun both agreeing and disagreeing with you two. Got to say, Pattern deserves way more love. 4.5 at a minimum. And others have said, read Dawnshard, then re-rank Rysn and THE Lopen. Only fair since you read Edgedancer for Lift!
I think the problem with Venli's flashbacks is that none of the information in the flashbacks felt necessary. Yes, we get more info about how the void spren worked to bring the everstorm, but we already knew enough that we didn't need those details. Yes, we get a deeper look into her relationship with Eshoni, but there was nothing new. I feel like I had already pieced together everything from her flashbacks before ever readying them. The only redeeming factor was her honesty about her mistakes and motivation, but we basically already get that message in a more compelling way with Dalinar.
Are you and Richard gonna be reading the weekly chapters from book 5? They are starting the 27th and it would be really cool to have a monthly episode on the 4 chapters released that month 👀
@@damnboy2.047 oh they are going to release a chapter every week digitally on a website I believe, I can't remember which one but it's on Sanderson's YT channel. Also if you want any recs I can supply :) fantasy is so fun!
"The Jay Z song was on" refers to Izzo. "That's the anthem, getcha damn hands up", then she says "So I put my hands up". Miley's song came out before Empire State of Mind, I think
My 5 star characters are probably: Kaladin, Dalinar, Szeth, Adolin, Taravangian, Jasnah. Least favorite characters: Navani, Lift. Ranking the rest would be too tedious so that’s what I’m going to go with😂
I am just choosing not to judge on the fetishes, more power to you guys 🤣🤣 And yes, Adolin is objectively the goodest, bestest boi ever. I mean, talk about golden retriever energy!!
Dalinar, more so Adolin, are really good, but Kaladin will always be, for me, 'next level of perfect; immaculate conception' ( 19:19 ) 😂 Haven't read Rhythm of War yet, but whatever Sanderson does to his character in book 5... I just hope he does not destroy my favourite. Have really enjoyed both parts, even if tier ranking isn't your favourite and kicking Lirin off was hilarious 😂 Thank you for the videos.
Wow, this episode was chock-full of blackmail material. I'm writing all of this down for later... Also, my 5 stars would be Dalinar, Kaladin, Taravangion, and Adolin. My Lirin tiers are Lirin and Lift (I highly disagree with her being fun. I just find her annoying. I can't believe you guys didn't plug your patreon this episode
My top probably will be: Kaladin, Szeth, Wit, Syl, Rock. Hard not to include Adolin, Pattern, Shallan and other amazing characters, but I had to stop somewhere.. Still can’t forgive Dalinar for what he’d done, but ok, he’ll get my honorable mention😂
Elokar’s best part is his death. I like the character but 5 stars is a stretch.. shallan, wit, syl, flashback dalinar, and pattern probably my top 5 but hey we all have opinions.. P.s Szeth should be way higher as well
Szeth is never threatening, which results in him being kinda boring. He never killed anyone the reader cares about during his antagonist arc. Which means he just claps some random guys (offscreen for the most part) and the first time he interacts with any real characters he gets stopped by a Kaladin who is obviously not used to his magic super powers.
kals dead arm should’ve lasted longer in my opinion, and maybe dalinar or some other major character should’ve also had a killed limb to give szeth sone more gravity
Fully agreed! Love her! She is one of my top seven characters (with Kaladin, Rlain, Renarin, Syl, Rock and Lift). And I also like Lirin and don't like Dalinar, so I think I don't suit here, 😂
I feel like I'm in the minority but I liked Shallan in book one and disliked her in all the rest. I simply dislike the Radiant and Veil plot and think it's poorly done. I feel like they only come out when Shallan is about to reveal something but then no, Radiant showed up and stopped her from revealing something interesting. She's so frustrating to read for me. I can feel Sanderson manipulating them to fit the plot and it doesn't seem natural. Her backstory was also the weakest for me as I predicted the stuff with her dad and mom in book one. I could see that making her character pop but there are so many references in book one that I figured it quickly. Also I don't care about the Ghostbloods, they are my least favorite faction in Stornmlight so her plot just keeps taking L's for me. Shallan does have some amazing scenes thought that almost bring me to tears and that's why it's so frustrating to read for me. When we get actual Shallan, I like it. When Radiant and Veil show up I lose interest so quickly. She got better in Rhythm of War so I'm excited to see where she goes in Wind and Truth. Agreed on Adolin being best boy. He's the perfect support character that has everyone's back. He's the best.
@@2ToRamble I dislike that her entire character rests on the fact that she repressed her memories and recovers them as the book go along. She doesn't know she killed her father or mother because the plot demands she doesn't remember in order to have a twist. The multiple personalities are a thing in the plot that stops Shallan from knowing the truth. I get that's the point of her mental struggle, it just doesn't work for me as it seems Sanderson is only doing it for plot convenience. His exploration of multiple personalities is surface level to me and doesn't seem to exist for any reason than to make Shallan an unreliable narrator in order to have plot twists in the story. I 100% believe that Shallan's mom is a herald because why not have Shallan conveniently repress this important detail of her life? Why not have Shallan forget all the interesting things about her life so that we get a cool plot reveal later? That's how it feels when I read her chapters. It's so frustrating for me.
@@DoNotLookDown Very much see your point, I do enjoy that aspect and Im sure Rich does too -- hopefully book 5 plays out in a less frustrating way for ya, I find it really interesting how her character develops with these new revelations
@@DoNotLookDown Shallan most likely doesn't know that her mother is a herald because she was so young. And her mother has no reason to reveal her identity imo
Tyn is one of MY least favorite characters. She doesn’t listen at all and is just there to say, “being a con person is fun!” She sounds like a cardboard cutout to me in every scene she’s in.
I already knew I would disagree with most of what you said because you're Dalinar fanboys and I hate him. Great character and is perfectly written. Still hate him. I knew you'd rate Shallan lower than what her character deserves...it always fascinates me how, mostly guys, would rave about Kaladin's ARC (which I love too) but dislike Shallan's because they didn't like her in book 1. She was "boring" or "annoying". I think I can guess why there is a difference. When, especially after WOR, her behaviour couldn't make more sense and she's one of the best characters Sanderson has written. Period. But Elhokar as 5 starts...not even his mother cared enough to mourn him for more than 5 minutes while she almost went catatonic thinking Jasnah was dead. Says it all. At least you aren't like those who hate Adolin because they don't understand his character at all so one cookie point for that.
Don’t ever rank SA again 😭 you start off with saying we’re gonna rank them based on writing and give, two of most complicated side characters the lowest ratings. And the audacity to put Elokhar on the level of Kaladin. I love you guys, but man this is your first bad take.
