You can add the second filter at the C50 and breathe while changing it, just unscrew the plug

Difference is one is for commercial use (c50) and one is military use (M50) which is why the m50 uses special filters

You can get an adapter so that the FM50 can utilize standard 40mm screw vs bayonet filter.

Hi, how long are these masks good for? I have a C50 bought new in 2011 but was never used. Does anything start to deteriorate with the materials of the mask itself?

as far as I know the shelf life is 10 years. but sure, the respirator won't magically stop working right after 10 years. they can easily work for 10 or 20 more years but the manufacturer won't guarantee proper function after the 10 year shelf life.

Also one thing to note is that replacing the valves every 5 years or so is recommended

Should be good against cbrn threats for 20 years if stored well, maintained, and valves are changed every 5 years.
