Hi there! Your best chances to find accessories such as VPU and filters is to watch listings in our FB Gas Mask Market group. They show up from time to time, but that's all I can recommend for people living outside the US.

Many thanks for a great video. Question: the voice amplifier. Is there a volume control? Or do you simply control the volume of your voice?

      @cbrnacademy  3 місяці тому

Hi there, no, there is not. Next week we're releasing a comprehensive VPU test and among the three types I own, none of them have volume control. What actually makes a difference volume-wise is whether you speak normally or talk loudly so yeah.

Glad you liked the review! If the filter system of FM50 suits you better, sure thing. Otherwise it's basically C50 in any other aspect.
Recently we released a "C50 review update" video where we made a quick overview of the FM50, so feel free to check that one as well!

Just a tip, if you'd like to use the standard screw type 40mm filters vs the bayonet style, there is an adaptor kit for the FM50 which converts it to them. Because of that kit, I think that gives the FM50 the advantage over the C50

We will make a detailed review about the FM53 respirator once we put together all the hard to obtain accessories, but you can rest assured it's going to happen!
The major difference between the C50 and FM53 is the ability to switch into positive pressure mode in case you use it with SCBA or PAPR, whereas the C50 is "just" an air purifying respirator (APR).

I’m so torn on what to buy. I’ve always wanted an M50 but could never find one new until I realized it was military only. Recently Avon starting selling to civilians and this brought tears to my eyes. I just spent a fortune with Mira. I bought a general use cm 6M mask and (6) NBC-77 , (2) V5-530 filters for it. I need a tactical mask as m6 doesn’t allow proper cheek connection to my rifle. Out of the three masks Avon sells. The C50 seems good as it works with all 40MM canisters. But are my Mira ones good? Or should I replace with Avon? If I switch to Avon do I go with their proprietary canisters FM-50 mask? Or should I get the c50? Then I see the fm54 is more then twice the price, why? What does it do differently. They seem the same. I’m so confused on what to buy. Every channel I search give the old whatever works for you comment. That’s not an answer. Based on my needs that I am a civilian prepper preparing for SHTF scenarios and would like to be set in case of nuclear, chemical, biological, anything to protect against riot control as I fear civil war, pepper spray, mustard gas and smoke/carbon dioxide. The whole 9 yards. Even if I need multiple filters I’m ok with that. I just need help deciding. The 800$ plus dollar one if it’s not SIGNIFICANTLY better then I don’t need to spend as much. I like the compactness of avons fm-50 but I also like the versatility to be able to use any 40mm cartridge since I have a bunch already. But the down side is it’s bulky. Any thoughts and guidance would be so appreciated. It will be saving my life

      HI there!
The CM-6 re-sold by MIRA Safety is a solid CBRN respirator but I get the dilemma when it comes to compatibility with your tactical equipment.
Personally I don't own any MIRA respirator and if you're thinking about switching to Avon products, it's only understandable.
I always recommend to go for respirators compatible with 40mm NATO cartridges and since you bought a few of those already, you can easily use them with the C50 if you decide to go for it one day.
Now, why is the FM54 more expensive? To put it simply, the FM53/54 offer possibilities far beyond what regular air purifying respirators can provide. For example, you can switch into positive pressure mode, meaning the respirator is built and designed to be used with SCBA devices or PAPRs in case it's needed.
There is of course more and we will talk about the FM53 in our upcoming gas mask review.

@@cbrnacademy awesome reply. Thank you so much. I have decided to go for the m50. Well civilian version and get the adaptor for 40mm canisters.
I hear what you are saying about fm54 but so long as the threads fit any papr hose it should work. Why and what is a positive pressure “feature” relative. What makes one capable vs the other?
On a separate note. I seemed to have waited too long and now prices are back up. Sales are gone. Avon now has the fm-50 set on sale. 250$ more then I was planning on spending but hey. Can’t put a price on your life. I’ll be looking forward to the new post. When do you think ur making it.

@@MMOOOOSSEE the positive pressure feature is for the use of a SCBA, Avon's version being the ST53 or ST54 a air tank powered system that allows the user to breath of tank air or off filters air by swapping from positive to negative pressure.

Just found your channel from the "what can get you killed" video. Then I saw this video. This has to be the best overview of the C50 I have seen. I have actually been contemplating on what gas mask to buy for like 3 months now, and now I think I am going to pick this one up. It was already on the top of my choices. It really seems like it's worth the price, and I feel even more confident in making the purchase now due to this video. This was like the next best thing to actually being able to handle it myself. You earned my sub. I'll be sure to watch your other videos, especially that cleaning one. I hadn't even considered cleaning a gas mask before.
But before I go I do want to ask, have you heard of or tried the x50i chem bio reservoir for the C50? If so, what are your thoughts on it? I can't really find anything talking about it, so I just don't know what to think about it. Not sure if it's been discontinued or what's up, but it's not sold by many and those who do sell it I have never heard of nor do they feel very trustworthy. The websites just feel kind of sketchy. And I can't find any forum posts or videos covering it. All the sellers only have the same single low quality photo. You can make out Avon and Camelbak written on it. And Camelbak made/makes CBR X, which looks to be basically the exact same thing to me. But I can't find any reviews about that either, or even any for sale. The only info I could find on the x50i was one seller had written that it's the only water bladder recommended by Avon for CBRN conditions. If this is all true and legit, this would be my next purchase. But I am hesitant because I can't even be sure this is a real thing. If you can help me with this at all I'd greatly appreciate it.

      Glad you like the videos!
The idea behind this channel is to bring the topic of CBRN protection to general public, whether we talk about protective equipment or how to use it in various situations. 💥
As it happens, I do own the CBRN Camelback and I will gladly create a separate episode about hydration options while wearing full-face respirator. 💦When it comes to the upper-mentioned Camelback, it's a great piece of gear you can most probably only obtain through surplus sites and some of them indeed look rather shady.
Just be sure to get yourself never used, still factory sealed one. 🙌
Thanks again for your sincere comment and words of encouragement! ☺

@@cbrnacademy as a prior Avon Customer service rep in the USA and factory certified repair tech, that is not the date of manufacture for the mask, but for the faceblank (rubber) itself. The date of manufacture is part of the "serial number" which is on the filter port. the first 2 digits are the year of manufacture. so this mask was made in 2010 but the rubber piece that makes up the main part of the mask was "pressed" in 2005. the 10 year life is most important for the o-rings and other moveable parts. FYI this is a absolutely great video.
