QUEENSRYCHE : OPERATION MINDCRIME ,one of the Greatest Concept Albums ever released!...Listen to it in one slide and you will be blown away forever!
Need to have the full album lyrics though. You can understand him most of the time but it helps.
This. Consistently rated as one of the top 10 concept albums in every list.
My favorite Queensryche album
you probably dont care but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on Instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my gf for the last couple of days =)
@Leonidas Princeton Yea, I've been using InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
Now for the opposite end of the Queensryche spectrum you should do Take Hold of the Flame live in Tokyo. ua-cam.com/video/xk84dVq644k/v-deo.html
It definitely shows off Geoff’s vocal range.
Yeah, I would go as far as saying this specific performance is in the absolute top range of rock performance quality. Nice to see so many people recommending exactly this one as a second song to listen to. Yes, it's totally like: "OK, and now from the sweetest song to the real thing on the other end of the spectrum."
This!
“Queen of the Reich”, “Prophecy”, “Screaming in Digital”, “The Whisper”, “Eyes of a Stranger”
Best band of the 80's and I was lucky enough to see them a few times before Chris DeGarmo left the band in the 97.
To hear Geoff's range, check out the Tokyo, 1985 live version of Take Hold Of The Flame
Yes, this. Take Hold Of The Flame is probably their most reacted-to song. Though I feel like Queen Of The Reich (dystopian sci-fi/fantasy themed) at the same show has a slight edge in intensity.
Did you see the Promised Land tour?
yes, this is a lullaby made by a metal band that love Pink Floyd and other progressive bands.
Thank makes a lot of sense 😁
Yeah, Take Hold of the Flame live in Tokyo shows his vocals a little more. This is a very good, and very underrated, band.
In what way are they underrated? They're one of the major metal acts of the 80's-90's.
Take hold of the flame 🔥
PLEASE! THIS SONG!!!! Take Hold of the Flame.
YES!!!!
Geoff is definitely an underrated singer 🎥🎬🎤🎤🎤
This is a band that is beloved by metalheads but virtually unknown otherwise, truly one of the all time greats
As a drummer I really like Scott Rockingfield’s Drumkit particularly the cymbals hanging off the chain setup! Bought the same system when I got my double bass TAMAS and ZILDJIAN cymbals 😎😎😎🎥🎬🔥
Thank you, ladies!
You're very welcome! Yes it'll be fun to hear more from them and Geoff. Thank you!
I'm a 54 year old rock musician. Empire is the album this song is from. It's title track , Empire , is a killer song that is descriptive of '89/'90. Their previous album Operation Mindcrime is epic. Still among my fav top 10 all time rock/metal albums. Would be cool if you ladies reacted to the Operation Mindcrime album in it's entirety. 40 minutes or so in length. The albums message/concept is still prevalent today 32 years later.
i'd say empire, jet city woman and silent lucidity are my favorite tracks by them... (in that order)...
Anything off of their Empire album is amazing.
This song is about a child trying to deal with the grief of losing a loved one, done so through the process of dream control. This song is the “baby” of guitarist Chris DeGarmo.
That makes sense - it always made me think of lucid dreaming
@@johnny4055 there helping there kid do lucid dreaming to deal with the +grief of losing a loved one
I've never heard Geoff Tate called under rated before honestly, most people consider him one of the greatest voiced in metal.
Yeah he's not underrated at all in the metal community, but on a general basis I think a lot of metal vocalist fly under the radar which is sad.
He's lost some relevance along with the music of those hair bands of the era, even though they're not quite the hair band genre, but when Empire came out that were trending in that direction. At the time he was very well respected as a singer, and usually at the top of lists of great vocalists, and if he's fallen down a few notches from where he used to rank, it will defend my statement.
Everyone who picked up a guitar learned that intro when it came out hahaha
I could totally see that. I would have been one of them for sure ;)
I love it when Rock bands do ballads! you can real feel their skills! 80's vibe. 👍This group is just great! I've never heard of them before! Thanks for sharing!
Never heard of them till now??? Kinda cool that you too were reacting to this song.
Geoff is an amazing singer. The band's best album was "Operation Mindcrime" I highly recommend anything off of that album.
I think they finally got into full swing with Empire, even if it was not a concept album. I like every song from both albums, but it just seems to me that Empire is more polished than Mindcrime. It's the album that came directly after Mindcrime but they did show improvement (at least from my pov).
Queensryche "Roads to Madness". You're welcome.
Couldn't agree more, too bad there's no live video of it from the live in Tokyo shows... but the studio version is fantastic. One of my absolute favorite songs!
Unleach the Archers covered the first Queensryche Song QUEEN OF THE REICH !!!!Check both out !
Wow, I'll have to check out the cover. The original has some of Geoff's most intense vocals.
@@j.f.fisher5318 says a lot about Geoff that one of the best female metal singers is one of the few that can do the song justice lol. (Yeah yeah, there ARE men out there that can too of course). I don't really like the cover though, but I rarely do like covers so...
Orchestration by the late great Michael Kamen who earlier in his career also did orchestration for The Wall by Pink Floyd (among others) - so there's a very direct connection to the Pink Floyd sound that way as well.
Take Hold of the Flame live in Tokyo 1984
You won't be disappointed!
Jet City Woman, Empire, Best I Can, Bridge, the whole Operation: Mindcrime album.
This song was written by Queensryche's guitarist Chris Degarmo because his daughter was going through nightmares at the time.
You two look great today!
Hi James! Thank you 😊 I'm excited to check out thier concept album! I really like those types of albums and yes, definitely like a movie. Cheers my dear!
I also liked Promised Land album.
Its not difficult to find on youtube at all
@@LEANNxARI There are several videos from the Mindcrime album that the band made into a package called Video Mindcrime. The link to it is here: ua-cam.com/video/B4nFRnpehLU/v-deo.html
and begins with the album opener, Anarchy X. As I'm writing this from my worksite in Central Asia, UA-cam says these videos are "blocked in your country." Hopefully the playlist is available in the USA.
Before you check out the entire album (CD or streaming), I recommend having the lyrics in front of you and prior to doing so check out the album on Wikipedia, which has a summary of the album's story. It's an amazing piece of writing and musical composition.
Additionally, since you state that you like concept albums, I especially would like to recommend Kamelot's two albums "Epica" and "The Black Halo," both of which tell a two part story based on Johann Goethe's "Faust" in which the protagonist "sells" his soul.
As stated with Mindcrime, check the story and have the lyrics on hand when you listen. I believe you won't be disappointed!
Btw, Queensryche has toured with Kamelot in the past, so there's a connection....
Cheers to you all as well!
@@michaeldover Oh, cool! I wish I had seen this a year ago! Thank you! :)
Yuup definitive pink floyd vibes also a little bit of David Bowie...great voice will check more of him, like you girls never heard of him...and its old wow....stay real and healthy!!
You young ladies have discovered an incredible rabbit hole through some of the most amazing music you've ever heard.
TIMELESS PERFECTION... MASTERCLASS! So beautiful and emotional!
This song always brings tears to my eyes. Reminds me of my daughters because I have always watched over them when they sleep and I often smile there sitting beside them.
I remember when my, now 13 yr old daughter, when she was maybe six, came running from her room in the middle of the night sobbing so hard that she couldn't speak or calm down. She had had a nightmare and once she calmed down, she said, "Daddy, I thought you died, I don't want you to die.". I comforted her and told her, "I am right here, you don't have to worry" and I slept with her clutched to my chest for the rest of the night.
Hi ladies, here are a few of my favorite Queensryche songs on youtube that you might like:
Queensryche - Anybody Listening?
Queensryche - Empire (Official Music Video)
Queensryche - Jet City Woman (Official Video)
Queensryche - Della Brown (Remastered 2003)
Queensryche - Someone Else? (lyrics)
Queensryche - Eyes Of A Stranger (Official Video)
÷1 on Anybody Listening. I absolutely LOVE that song. Try to find the full-length studio version (approximately 7:45 in length).
The song is about a child being comforted by a parent after having a bad dream. Also explaining what lucid dreaming is. Might I recommend Rage for Order, Operation Mindcrime, Empire and Promised Land in their entirety.
The Warning battle with Rage for best QR album for me, with OM as a really close third. Well TBH, from day to day all three could take top spot. After Promised Land though... just some songs here and there. Not going into the whole Todd controversy as it usually escalates into a flame war (but I like the albums with him personally).
When I feel like a cry, I sometimes go here 😎
Hi LeannxAri!
Loved your reaction to this song. Yes the true fact is that Geoff is one of the most underrated singers EVER! His vocal abilitys is amazing.
The album Operation Mindcrime is one of the best albums of all time. It is a concept album that came out back in 1988, with a storyline
about corruption, power, prostitution, religion, hitman, murder and love. The lyrics on that album is chilling and sadly enough still relevant to day...
Here is an lyric example from the song "Spreading the disease" so you know what I mean.
"Religion and sex are powerplays
Manipulate the people for the money they pay
Selling skin, selling God
The numbers look the same on their credit cards
Politicians say no to drugs While we can pay for wars in South America
Fighting fire with empty words
While the banks get fat
And the poor stay poor
And the rich get rich
And the cops get paid
To look away
As the one percent rules America"
I love your reactions and I will keep coming back for more.
Keep it up!
Be safe!
Björn
Della Brown and Anybody Listening. You will blown away. Queensryche was absolutely amazing and huge part of my life.
Della Brown? I thought I was the only one that liked that song.
Everything about this reaction is beautiful.A beautiful song, beautiful women, beautiful cat...hell even the couch is beautiful.Proud new sub!
This song is just A BIG DAMN HUG THAT YOU'RE NEVER READY FOR..
If you actually listen to the lyrics, which they didn't
You made me smile. It's so true
Ray here I was thinking "omg how can they not be moved?!!"
I don't know if this has been mentioned but Jeff was classically trained. His Opera coach sang Mary's parts on operation mindcrime album.
I haven’t read through all the comments but the other 4 members of the band are not with Geoff Tate anymore since 2014. They had a bad spilt up and the other 4 members got a new singer and went to court against Tate for the name. Tate lost the name to the other 4 members and it’s sad to see that band not fully together. Geoff Tate does have his own band I believe it’s called Operation Mind Crime and he sings Queensryche music. Sad to see that band not together. Great band!
Its about lucid dreaming. About a father inviting his little ones to embrace their dreams and to control them..
Another underrated singer you guys must check out is Michael Kiske. He sings for the German band Helloween and Unisonic. One of his vocal masterpiece in my opinion is "We have the Right" or "Eagle Fly Free". Please check it out, you will not be disappointed.
A true masterpiece! 😍
I've been listening to Queensryche and the metal genre for many many years. I wouldn't classify Queensryche as a metal band, more rock and hard rock. But this song is my favorite song ever and I'm usualy not the type of person that says "this is my favorite" because I like many different music genres and songs. However, this song helped me get through some dark times in my life, I would play it over and over and eventually learned how to play it on acoustic guitar. Many years later I sang this to my son when he was just a baby to rock him to sleep.
This in one of my favorite songs. I look forward to the opportunity to sing this to my children if I am blessed with them.
Geoff’s voice is like honey melting into a cup of hot tea. Thanks for the great reaction.
Thanks King Diamond😁😂
You probably won't see this comment since this video was posted so long ago but you were actually correct, this song is about lucid dreaming. During the musical breakdown there's a voice in the background talking about how to obtain dream control or lucid dreaming. The song was written by the band's guitarist for his young son who was having nightmares. And at the end you can actually hear a little bit of Brahms Lullaby just before it goes silent. And yes, definitely Pink Floyd vibes. I remember when this song came out since I'm an old head and that was exactly what I thought on first listen. When the radio played it I thought I was getting a new Pink Floyd to until he started singing.
Michael Kamen was the composer on this song, and he also had worked with Pink Floyd on their album The Wall. At the time this came out I didnt know that. So many of my friends thought the same thing. similar
So cool you called out Floyd so early in the song. The first time I heard this, when it hit the chorus, I immediately heard Floyd.
1990 is when this song came out on the album "EMPIRE"
Saw them for the first time in 91 at Donnington.. Monsters of Rock. Fantastic band live and recorded!!
This was my daughter's first song she heard coming home from the hospital. It's about dreaming
Yes this was during the time of the power ballads where every metal band was writing love songs. Queensryche went left and wrote a lullaby and it became a huge hit for them.
This song tears my heart out every time. Met my Wife in 91. Shoulda had 30 years with her this year. RIP my Kathy.
The cat looks like my little boy that I lost a few years ago. As far as the song goes, my favorite song of all time and has held the #1 spot for a long time. QUEENS - RIKE.
Now you need to do Mr. Big "To be with You", and Extreme "More than Words" to complete the metal band ballad trifecta
Thoroughly agree!
That was from "Empire" a great album. Another great one from that was "jet city woman".Check it out.
This song is a masterpiece, such a beautifully written song.
When this song first came out, DJs remarked how people would call their stations to request "that new Pink Floyd song" lmao....
I was a HUGE Queensryche fan back in the day. This isn't at all their typical sound. And I 100% agree with you - I always felt like this was their attempt to do something in the style of Pink Floyd. But most of their music is much heavier, and I dare say more interesting.
Ok, yeah that makes sense. Definitely looking forward to listening to more from them 😁🤘
That's the song I played on the way from the hospital after she was born. It's the first song she heard!
This song is one of the best song ever written! Is a masterpiece! It hits you deep into your soul! The whole album empire and mindcrime! Are a masterpiece!Great albums! Great reaction ladies!👏😎👍
I think this is one of the best ballads ever made
So beautiful
He wrote this song for his kids as a lullaby.
The guitar player wrote the song
Can you guys check out "Eyes of a Stranger" from the Mindcrime album?
I wholeheartedly agree. So many people recommend "Take Hold Of The Flame" from the Tokyo set but I think EOAS, the video, is much clearer and better shows his vocal range.
Thanks for this one. I saw Queensryche live some years ago and they are top shelf musicians. Also agree about Operation Mindcrime and Empire- both were huge at the time. One of my favorite live songs from Operation Mindcrime is Eyes of a Stranger. It really shows off Geoffs range and power. I would suggest this one as I have not seen another reactor do it. Keep up the good work and Happy New Year to you both!
ua-cam.com/video/drxkr5bZanY/v-deo.html
Sounds like that just might have to be the next song we hear from them! Thanks so much, happy new year Tim!
Queensryche are considered a Progressive Hard Rock/Metal band. Their first 6 albums from 1982-1994 were tremendous, they had heavy songs and some softer or more experimental songs. Their Highly recommended album is Operation Mind-crime (1988) basically it’s a concept album with each song connecting to tell a dark story. Highly recommended listening overall!
This album was released while I lived in Seattle. The DJ from KISW said, every time he played it, the phones lit up with ppl asking if it was PinkFloyd. Funny you make that reference.
QR is one of Seattle’s best bands, next to Heart. I saw both bands while I lived in Seattle and I’m actually in a QR concert DVD operation mind crime II
Sadly, they’re one of the bands who no longer have any original members, including Tait.
Great song! Fun reaction.
Always enjoy your reactions! Glad I subbed
Makes us happy to hear that! Thank you 😊
Martin is dead on accurate,I should know,my name is Martin 😂🤣
This song IS about lucid dreaming. Some people can take full control of what they dream of. Some cannot. I think I'm in the middle. This song takes a special place in my heart, because before this song was made, I was adolped at age 9. I had some bad things happen to me before I was adolpted. So, I used to have these terrible nightmares. I was actually afraid to go to bed and go to sleep, because I didn't want to see some daemon in my dreams or witness my adolptive mom get brutally killed in my dreams. Well, overtime, I believe that I have somehow learned "a little" how to take control of my dreams and stear a potentially bad dream to a different direction.
I would make up stories/fantasys in my head while I was gong to sleep (because I was afraid to go to sleep..so, I created a fantasy world), and I would finally fall asleep. Well, my dreams started to take over my "stories/fantasys". And then, I would somehow take back control of my dreams while I was dreaming (I don't know how, it just happens). Now, days (and back when I started this), I can actually tell that I am dreaming and tell that this dream is going to be bad. So, I say to myself, in the dream, "I'm dreaming. I do not like how this is going. Let's do something else in this dream." It is hard to explain, but I've been doing this since I was a child. Anyway, I haven't had a "real" nightmare in many years because of this. Yes, every once in a while, I will get startled and woken up by a voice calling my name out, but that's not really a nightmare compared to what I had as a child. I didn't even know what lucid dreaming was until this song came out and they talked about this song and what it meant. Of course, I give God thanks, first. However, this song is still special to me.
Hi Richard, thanks for sharing. Very glad to hear you were able to take control of your dreams, I can't imagine how difficult those early years were for you. Definitely a beautiful song and so glad it helped you 💜 take care my friend!
Definitely Pink Floyd vibes! Gorgeous song. Amazing production. Timeless.
Great song. Give Stevie Ray Vaughan voodoo child live in Austin a listen.
Yup, I was thinking about the Pink Floyd reference. In this song his voice sounds like Waters on some of Pink Floyd's later work.
Thats just it. Its a beautiful song.
I'm also going to say Take Hold Of The Flame live in Tokyo back in the early 80s, as well as Queen Of The Reich, Anybody Listening, I Will Remember (unplugged) & Eyes Of A Stranger
Operation Mindcrime concept album. A must listen to, and Operation Livecrime a must watch. Hell, I might have to go and watch it right now.
Take hold the flame is the perfect song in his prime. No one could come close to touching him
All the good metal bands have ballets and that's what this is.
Beautiful song, Beautiful reaction, Gorgeous Girls. Grazie 🌹🌹
Holy crap, that cat.
Also you're both brilliant.
The song is about lucid dreaming. The song was written after the guitarist read a book on lucid dreaming. Check out the lyrics you will understand it better.
Thanks ladies, you've reacted to three of my favorite songs at least now. Huge fan of Rush and Queensryche, and that's an excellent Pink Floyd comparison, Ari. I love the prog rock...and I'm getting a bit of a crush on Leann too. Leann you always dress nice for my favorite bands! XD
Gotta do Take Hold of the Flame Live in Tokyo 1984 by Queensryche! You guys will love it
Nice reaction girls. Queensrych was a fantastic band. They are still around, well sort of, Queensrych has a different singer now, Geoff Tate started his own band named Operation Mindcrime, (big legal battle concerning the Queensrych band name) Point being the original Queensrych with Geoff on vocals and Chris DeGarmo on guitar (he's the one playing the acoustic guitar in this video) will always be my favorite. Saw them live 4 times and they were incredible. As far as Geoff goes, I have him as my 3rd favorite metal singer of all time, and I've been listening to metal for over 40 years. Keep up the great reactions, and as always, stay Metal. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶
This is just a popular ballad of theirs. The singer can hit really high highs!
They are all over the place they cover every human emotion that you could imagine
Even the cat likes Queensryche! 😎🔥🤘🎸
Queensryche are awesome. Check out Take Hold Of The Flame live in Tokyo to see what Geoff could do in his prime.
When you have time to spend an hour listening to music, you simply must listen to the concept album Operation Mindcrime by them, which is consistently rated among thet top 10 concept albums of all time. Every song is a masterpiece in its own right and together the songs tell a tragic story of revolutionary hubris, doomed love, and utter self destruction.
Hi Jeffrey! I'm super stoked to learn they have a concept album! Definitely going to listen on one of my long drives 😊❤🤘
Jet City Woman is a Killer aswell.
They won best song at mtv awards with this song
If you want heavy the song shows his voice is take hold of the flame live on Tokyo 1983 big fan of you ladies
Very cool, yes really looking forward to hearing their heavy side! Thank you Randall!
They were Prog Metal. Little different than Heavy metal. Glad they did this song. Was really well written and done. Ty for the reaction
Haven't read through the comments to know if this has been mentioned, but 'Take Hold of the Flame' (Live in Tokyo version), by Queensryche, is the song to check out if you're interested in seeing Tate's true singing talent. It's been reacted to at least half a dozen times by others on UA-cam, and always seems to impress. :)
I t is about a lucite dream state and the belief that you can control what you do in that dream state. That came from the Band itself when the song first came out.
They are also one of my favorite bands ever because of their diversity
If you haven't noticed the cat loves that music and I think you do too I love the review keep it up
One of the only other people who gets the Pink Floyd vibe off this song. Story (which will age me for sure). When this song first came out on the radio in the early 90s, that's who I thought it was.
Queensryche, Take hold of the flame, live in Tokyo
Classic! Great reaction ❤️
That’s no singer...that’s the GOAT! Amazing band, and Geoffs range is ridiculous.
Operation mindcrime is one of the best albums ever released, every song is great.
I can understand the Pink Floyd ‘vibes’ that you’re feeling. Try Pink Floyd ‘Wot’s Uh The Deal’, off of the “Obscured By Clouds” album if you want to maybe see a touch of the acoustic background and possible inspiration of this song.
These guys are a Seattle based band, I was living in Seattle when this song came out.
It got tons of air play, I remember a DJ on the radio saying, we have another request for the new PinkFloyd song..and just to set the record straight, this is NOT PinkFloyd!
So..your PF vibe was spot on!
Never put Pink Floyd with Queensryche, specifically Silent Lucidity ... great observation. I think this is the only song ... well, now that you planted that thought into my head, I can hear it now. No, I could never confuse Roger Watters with Geoff, but I do hear the similarities.
