Deep diving the history of an alternate timeline within a science fiction drama...
Nerding hard today.
Great video The Terran Empire is fascinating.
The reason the empire had stronger ships is that they use tech that they gather from conquered races
Just curious:
Do technologically advanced civilizations often fall to less advanced civs?
@@fredweller1086 well the Ewoks DID help defeat the empire with sticks and stones
But why didn't the NX Enterprise have Vulcan shields rather than ionized hull plating? That has always bugged me.
(An oopsie in the writing of ENT Mirror ep.)
@@TommygunNG that bugged me too
You have to conquer/capture said stronger races inorder to reverse engineer which takes time. In that time they have to endure so they have to be strong to begin with.
1:44 Technically, the planting a flag on the moon doesn't mean the Terran Empire existed in 1969. For all we know, space travel was around then, but the Terrans may not have made it to the moon until sometime later.
The mirror universe history is very murky that info is based on audio commentary on the dvd where state that it was meant to be the 69 landing but didn't have time to model the apollo suit so it's up to viewer interpretation I guess 👍
the clip showed a 22nd century eva suit, so its likely a writing hiccup or two slipped through.
If "space travel was around then" for humans, we'd probably have made it to the moon.
(If you simply mean they put people in orbit, it's hard to call that, "space travel.")
The Terran Empire might've simply been one of the two world powers at the time, either replacing the United States or Soviet Union.
@@korvusgaming4927 Then it would be the U.S., as the intro traces it back to the British Empire. America succeeded the UK after WW2 as the world leader. The FIrst Contact scene would support the idea of a North American/Western power more belligerent than current Western civilization gaining alien tech and developing from there.
I've tended toward "The Empire" being the British Empire with no American Revolution (in a more belligerent form). In one sense, it's toMAto-toMAHto.
Here's my problem with the Mirror Universe; After the initial split of that universe from the prime universe, many of the conditions would have been so different that, after some time, most characters from the prime universe probably shouldn't have Mirror Universe counterparts, yet every time there's always a Mirror version of most characters.
True they would have been completely different people.
I think we caught a glimpse of the beginning of the Terran Empire, In the TOS episode, Guardian of Forever. Spock briefly saw a headline about Edith Keeler starting a peace movement, that delayed Americas entry into the second world war, and allowed Nazi Germany to develop the atomic bomb, and win the war. I think that reality where Edith Keeler lived, was the start of the mirror universe that allowed the rise of the Terran Empire.
Bruh, this editing is nuts
Make The Terran Empire Great Again
YEAH WHERE CAN I SIGN UP LOL
Very comprehensive summary.
While I despise Discovery, the Mirror Universe info you covered seems consistent with the direction things were going.
Smiley 'O' Brien would help create the Galactic Federation of Planets and become it's first Chancellor
"I AM THE SENATE!"
A thousand years done the line and it’s getting reorganized into the first galactic empire
Our actual reality is closer to that of the Terran Empire than the prime Star Trek universe.
Way our timeline has gone, I think Gene Rodenberry's dream of a utopian future is long gone, we're heading into a sort of Feudalistic-Corporate-Military Industrialistic Terran Empire Timeline.
There is still good out there, it will mostly be ignored!
In the Terran Empire logo at the beginning the Earth pierced by a sword should be rotating COUNTER-CLOCKWISE. It's a Mirror Universe; everything reversed and inverted.
gravity too? lol
No, not physical objects. This is about the course of Human Civilization
I am so offended that you used that song!!! LOL!!!!!
LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!
I hope the Terrans are explored further in canon programs. Having them as the primary nemesis in Discovery in the future would be worth seeing.
Think I could go as far as I'd like to see a whole Series set there!
@@NerdWorldEmpire
That would be something. But, there is a huge ‘but’ here.
There is no way they can treat the Empire as the protagonist. In the end, it would all have to be about destroying the Empire. That’s a given. I’m not sure I’d even want them being treated like hero’s of any kind.
The question must then be asked, as the Empire is already wrecked, why bring them back just to do it again.
It would be better to revisit them as villains they way the Klingons, Romulans or Borg were done.
I have to admit though, that episode of Mirror Darkly was the frickin bomb 💣
Why didn't the NX Enterprise have Vulcan shields rather than ionized hull plating?
(An oopsie in the writing of ENT Mirror ep.)
Maybe it did have shields. but they were already downed by enemy attacks or maybe the Suliban cloak they equipped somehow interfered with the shields they used and thus it couldn't be shielded while cloaked? I imagine that ti would be a no-brainer for the Terrans to use shields as well as polarized hull armor (which would naturally be thicker and sturdier than Federation hull plating) as a backup defense.
@@fadelsukoco3092 Possible, but unlikely. The Terrans would have acquired shields when they appropriated the other Vulcan tech, and totally bypassed "ionized hull plating" as a protection. There is no evidence that later starships in our Prime universe had such a backup.
As for the cloak, of course it interfered. Remember, Romulans and Klingons were shieldless when cloaks were engaged. Hell, it's central to the time Deanna crashed the saucer section in that one movie.
0:51 I have the Terran emblem tattooed on my right calf.
My right forearm 👍
The idea that the Vulcans made first contact with the Terran Empire and ending up overpowered by humans and their technology stolen did not make sense since the Vulcans would have been observing the Earth for many years before First Contact and would have known how barbaric and savage it was.
Why only three comments?. Going on add that Discovery Mirror Universe is a different one than the one Kirk's crew beam into. Because there NO Vulcans equal status in this Mirror Universe.
The origin of the Terran Empire could also have been the result of The City on the Edge of Forever...Spock explained there that the alternate timeline where Edith Keeler survived meant America delayed entering WWII...which allowed Nazi Germany to complete their heavy water experiments and develop the atomic bomb first and that, combined with their superior missile technology, allowed them to conquer the World...
TheTerran empire is 100% a continuous version of the Roman empire using Latin terms and titles cut scenes would of shown the use of Roman gods ...for me the is no question either the RE never fell and continued in to the 23rd century or the RE was reformed some time in the 21st century and continued in to the 23rd but either was the TE is the RE just a global version.
Hate to break it to you even with the Cross over event the empire would have been fine it's the writing staff that was responsible for the ds9 mess
May I ask what the song in the background is? Sounds like it rocks :)
The first is from Enterprise in a mirror darkly but I assume you mean the main music that's called The Warrior Song by Sean Housholder
Rome never fell, became the Terran Empire. (Bread and Circuses, TOS, type culture)
ROME never fell, became the British empire then the United States. Look at tge design of the court houses and Govt buildings.
I can see that some of you just don't understand cause and effect of space time. For one thing the Terran Empire if it existed would have whole other group of people depending on how far back the change happened creating the Empire. Cause and effect that lead to the creation of the Federation..
What song is playing in the background?
It’s called ‘The Warriors Song’
Spock new his reformed TE would fall when he made the changes he believed only once humanity had suffered like there Conquests had could real change be made and true peace be agreed across the quadrants ....he was wrong lol but his logic did have merit.
During Archers time I wouldn't say that the Empires technology is better than Starfleet. While they have more weapons on their ship there warp cores weren't as stable. Two different societies have different priorities.
TPOL IS HOTTEST IN BOTH
I always wonder about the existence of a parrallel universe?
what song is playing in the background?
It’s called the warriors song
