The delivery of Worf's, "...my guess, superior Klingon technology", was delivered in only a way he could with his usual Worf dry personality and humor. My god, I did a literal LOL moment.
Even funnier considering we know the cloaking device they’re using is over a century old.
😂
@@georgehill8285 I’m still laughing.
Worf's trolling Riker's "little ship" remark.
First off, it isn't superior Klingon technology. It's Romulan technology the Klingons stole.
The Klingons couldn't cloak a boiled egg with a feathery down comforter. How they ever reverse engineered the Hur'q warp drive is beyond me.
Still, cute scene.
Shaw replying to Geordi with "Yeah, it's been a weird week" was comedy gold. Perfectly-timed delivery.
That's me when I have to explain to the mechanic why I haven't brought in my car in the last 2 years
Todd's training as a Second City comedian have really paid off this season. Shaw is already a legend lol
@@lumberluc LOL!!! Same here.
That’s gonna be a big meme , isn’t it 😍😍😍😍😍
I didn't like Shaw to start with but he has totally grown on me I would love him to get his own show
1:06 - Their realization: "Ah, of course. They are our children, obviously..." faces and nods of agreement are just priceless! :D
Geordi: you know I'm going to have to kill your son, right?
Picard: only if I can kill your daughter.
that slow realization of "of course its them"
First rule of parenting: When there is something shady going on, ask yourself if it's something you would've done as a younger person and if the answer is yes...well you'll know who the culprit is. Like, thinking back to when my parents would catch me, I'd be like "How the hell did you know I did that?" and they'd go "Because I know you" I'd ask "How do you know me like that?" and they'd go "...not important. Now stop asking questions, you're in trouble!"
They are their fathers' children, for sure. :D
This was great humor indeed. But the best part for me was the, "He got me there" Face at 2:11.
The fact that the animation team chose to replicate the classic cloaking effect is quite incredible!
They even added the motion picture Klingon "roar" sound that Romulan devices missed somewhat.
Yeah genius
If they wanted to be actually true to Star Trek than they darn well had to replicate the effect. Discovery and Picard changing things like the warp effect sounds has been just one of many embarrassments the franchise has had to endure for years.
Wish they would have used the sound effect from "The Search For Spock," "The Voyage Home," or "The Undiscovered Country" instead.
@@hurin1932 The... warp sound effects..? Did you watch any of the tmp movies? Or Tos to tng? Cmon if your gonna hate at LEAST find something better to nitpick about.
Great seeing Captain Shaw being completely star struck by Geordi Laforge after being thoroughly unimpressed by both Picard and Riker. Nice touch lol.
Geordi was always a by-the-book man.
I'm guessing Shaw came up through the Engineering branch.
Exactly 😅
It's one engineer to another moment. Plus, standard geek reaction. Compare notes, and get to work
He probably thought of Geordi as one of the unsung heroes quietly fixing Picard and Riker's messes behind the scenes 😂
I'll be damned, after all these years, Kirk is still saving everyone's asses
LOL
For Kirk, there are no, "no win scenarios!"
"Wasn't that a gift from the Klingons?"
"And it will be again, that's the beauty of... wait, that doesn't really work here, does it?"
"It certainly the hell doesn't."
He's not.
@@pderham26 Who’s cloaking device was that?
The Face Jack makes after Geordi says "Stay away from my Daughter" Its perfection
Did anyone else have a "Night Court moment"? When 'Mac' the court clerk, 'warns' lecherous Prosecutor Dan Fielding to get away from his daughter?
And her response like a chastened teenager.
The “I just pissed off her dad” look
Ikr😂
Trek usually needs three seasons to figure out what it's about, anyway.
Seven: "Admiral, we're now cloaked!". Geordi (livid): You stole the goddamn cloaking device from MY bird of prey!" Picard: "Geordi! I would never deceive you and I would never steal from....(Picard's voice trails off in shocked realization as Geordi also realizes what's happened and closes his eyes).
Picard (softly): "Jack". Geordi (in a barely audible whisper) "Sidney". Two fathers fighting with each other and suddenly realizing that both of their kids are behind this whole thing. This is brilliant writing and brilliant acting about two fathers who have no control over their grown-up children, which makes it timeless.
They made the easiest to make Parental error: Took their eyes off the kids and didn't realize why things were suddenly really quiet.
The next-Next Generation begins???
Its not brilliant writing..? Are you insane? Its forced garbage written by hacks!
@@hombreangel one can only hope.
"two fathers who have no control over their grown-up children, which makes it timeless."
More like two fathers who realize that their children are doing the same stuff they would have done 30 years ago :D Geordi even said so himself^^
The exchanged looks between Picard and Seven are priceless! Without a single word Picard and Seven speak volumes through just their glances at each other as they watch the perpetually rude and dismissive Shaw stumbling over his words in hero worship upon meeting Geordi. These are great actors.
It's amazing
Fun thing is, you managed to say very little in this whole comment. Well done.
The was a whole lot of words for less than a second scene
@@pderham26 So few words to be such a jerk. Well done.
The look of "Aww, look at the big ol nerd being a nerd"
I didn't know how badly I needed to see Shaw be a total geek in front of Laforge. Also I totally ship Jack and Sydney.
I'm sure their respective fathers will feel the same way you do about their children, once they get over their urge to kill them.
Is shipping really necessary though when they've already boarded the ship before we could get there? Lol
I thought it was so funny that Shaw takes every possible opportunity to Zing Picard and Riker, but meets LaForge an completely blows his wad over him! 🤣🤣🤣
I'd have really loved it if Geordi and Shaw geeked out together fixing the clocking device whilst the 'kids' stand back and watch. Seems like a missed opportunity in favour of a Geordi/Sidney moment.
Just like Dax was the fans in trouble with tribbileactions, Shaw is the TNG fan
Seeing the Enteprise-A was so cool. Jack's line of, "I've always been a Constitution man" was exactly how I felt. That entire scene and Seven's speech was just incredible writing.
The enterprise/NX class refit behind the D7 presumably the enterprise was amazing
I loved the music - bringing in each of the themes was perfect.
That’s the thing with this season… line by line, scene by scene, frame by frame… it’s all so so well thought out and full of meaning ❤ spectacular series in every way
I think it’s say to say Jack and I have become best friends with that line! Connie Refit is my Starship!
You can really hear the emotion when seven talks about voyager and how much it ment to her
The fact that this ship is cloaking from the HMS Bounty with the Enterprise-A in the background makes me feel like the TOS crew is there too in spirit!
And Kirk is chilling at Daystrom Station...
@@Tounushi his bones are chilling there.
Kirk and crew in one way or another is still saving the galaxy.
If only M5 the supercomputer would wake up and go full Dalek
@@TheSjuris Kirk's full body is preserved.
"Yeah, its been a weird week."
Lines like that, the acting, everything is why I love Shaw! There needs to be a spinoff, the perfect sarcastic smart*ss Captain! And Geordi and Jean-Luc's parenting troubles with their repective kids is priceless!
A spin-off series with the Titan Shaw, Seven, and Sydney LaForge would be great!
@@stephengordon576
Amen.
@@stephengordon576 I disagree, it could only take place in-between seasons of Picard for obvious reasons, and in order to be consistent it would mostly be Shaw being a jerk to Seven. We've already seen the end of his character arc, I don't think rewinding to the beginning of it would be very satisfying.
"... and YOU ... stay away from my daughter."
I love how Geordi becomes protective of Sidney and Jack being like a high school crush 😅
Love how both dads knew exactly who did it at the same time
Geordi"Have you any idea Jean Luc how many Federation treaty you violated?"
Picard "Well I guess you have to include it to my tab"
That's Picard's start to become Kirk moment there.
The real question; what treaties did he actually violate?
Romulus was destroyed, and the Romulan Star Empire fractured into multiple different factions.
The treaty of algeron should be null and void because one of the parties doesn't exist anymore. Unless the federation has a similar treaty with the klingons, there isnt a treaty to be broken.
The emotion on Geordi's face when he sees Data makes me tear up every time.
I know. And when Data looks at Geordi at the end and says Geordi's name almost in recognition. Somehow the most emotional reunion out of all the ones in this episode and two words between them.
The forced emotional scenes really have pulled the wool over the superfans heads. This show is cringe garbage. You lot need to stop tearing up/crying/weeping over every stupid line in this joke of a show. TNG was great . This new P1/2/3 "thing" is a travesty.
@@noelmagann1 maybe if that's how you feel then you shouldn't watch. Episode 6 was full on fan service, and there were bits I could have skipped. But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it.
LeVar Burton's acting is legendary. He goes through hope, distrust, more hope, then not allowing himself to hope, and then cautionary happiness in just a few seconds.
@@noelmagann1 REMEMBER THE THING? FROM WHEN THE FRANCHISE WAS STILL GOOD? REMEMBER!?!?, lol
I thought this was a very “Kirk” scene; “we’re gonna break a few treaties to save friends and then continue to do so to save the federation.”
Also considering we had multiple kirk-centric easter eggs including himself this episode.
My thoughts exactly. Jean-Luc sounding more and more like James Kirk as he gets older.
Sulu: "The word, sir?!"
Kirk: "The word is 'no.' I am therefore going anyway."
1:59 - 2:09 Geordi is treating Jack like any other father who feels their daughter's boyfriend does not deserve them 😄
Ah. The good ol good girl/bad boy trope.
You know, I'm pretty sure that Geordi will get quite used to having Jean-Luc Picard as his co-father-in-law.
Eventually.
In a couple of decades.
I think it safe to say that EVERY father pretty much feels that way about their their daughter's boyfriend
He knows what Picards...and Crushers...are like.
I am an COMMODORE? You know the word......exile? Counting crystals?
"....dad..."
lmao "Yeah it's been a weird week." This is why we need a Shaw series.
It really is a shame that this is the final season, especially now that they FINALLY get things right, this season has been 10 times better than the first two season put together
It's the nostalgia factor plus the writing is on a magnitude better this season and they couldn't have found a better villain, Amanda Plummer is just brilliant. I'm hoping this season leads into a Titan spinoff, didn't like him at first but Shaw kinda grows on you.
@@hirozhen7475 But it's nostalgia in service to the story rather than just stuck in
@@stars9084 I didn't say it was a bad thing. Nostalgia by definition is good and should be cherished. What your thinking of is "fan service" and that can go either way hit or miss.
@@hirozhen7475 Sorry, I'm very used to hearing that brought up as nothing but a criticism
Only ten times?
The fact that Data is back is such a huge relief of heartbreak.
Literally one of the top Star Trek episodes ever made.
makes you wonder why the Borg never messed with cloaking when they assimilated Klingon and Romulan ships🤔🤔🤔
@@raven4k998 True honestly.
@@raven4k998my headcanon is that
1. the intimidation factor of the borg, they arent the type to sneak up on people or hide from people, theyre just too powerful to do that.
2. them cubes be MASSIVE if they tried to cloak it would end up in ships slamming into said cube like bugs on a windshield
@@junkerburn2341 Yeah, agreed. Cloaking implies the Borg would ever feel the need to HIDE. Heck, they've already probably absorbed similar tech from species they ran into long before they met the Federation. They just don't need it because they think they're unstoppable.
I love how nervous Shaw is, and then Geordi talks him about how roughly held together the ship is, and he looks even more nervous, like one of his heroes is dressing him down. Then Geordi calls it a marvel of maintenance engineering and he's so relieved and happy.
He feels so seen. All the hard work is recognized by a legend.
Its so refreshing to see him hero worship because he's always so irreverent it's nice switch.
was weird because up until then he was all "I HATE you Picard. I hate you Riker. You and your crew caused all kinds of shit in its adventures, you're all scum!"
The second he see's Geordie though, he does a 180.
@@AzguardMike Geordi is an engineering man and Shaw came up in the engineering section. Shaw probably thinks Geordi has to clean up the mess left by Picard and Riker.
I feel like between strange new worlds and this season of Picard, they finally got the CGI right. Loving the fact they snuck in the exiting warp and general impulse engine noises from the first Abrams movie AND the original cloaking sound. It all fits together like a glove!
That shot of the starship decloaking then going to warp over the Space Station was MAGICAL!
So Shaw a former engineer is nerding out on Laforge. Probably the only TNG crew that he likes.
Because Geordi wasn't responsible for the shenanigans Shaw listed off. He specifically blames Picard and Riker for that, but Geordi was the guy who made sure the ship survived it all and to do that you have to be legendary...
to him Riker and Picard made the rest of the crew do what they did. Geordi was an introverted nerd the entire run of TNG who had to hologram a girlfriend, so he didn't get much attention. The most infamous he would get is when he got mind controlled by the Romulans to try kill the Klingon governor.
This was an awesome episode. I’m really starting to like Captain Shaw too.
“Yeah, it’s been a weird week…” 😂😂😂
@1:11
The precise moment you(rather awkwardly)realize you've just transitioned from brothers-in-arms to co fathers-in-law.
Picard in full no fucks given mode “put it on my tab”😂
1:08 2 dads recognizing the shenanigans of their kids.
And they’re both so grounded. 🤣 This episode is fantastic!
Wait, what? They both got busy right after the events of Nemesis? Sorry, wasn't following the series. That revelation is a shocker. I remember in Generations, he wanted kids after his brother and nephew Rene died. Well, I guess he made sure to continue the Picard name.
LeVar Burton's acting at the end when he said "data" gave me old school chills of TNG.
Awesome!!!!
The moment Picard and Geordi realized just who was stealing the cloaking device made me crack up 😂
The music for this scene was amazing, and the way it starts to swell at 3:27 gives me chills.
There is something undeniably awesome and incredible about seeing a starfleet ship cloaking. It's like an upgrade long overdue finally coming true.
Why they stole the Klingon one and not the one that works with starfleet tech is interesting. They could have grabbed the one of the USS Defiant.
@@vismortis superior Klingon technology... obviously 😉
@@vismortis The Defiant cloaking device probably has DRM protection all over it. I'm pretty sure Klingons are all about open source tech.
@@raul_jocson_ considering the Defiant device was a loan from the Romulans, yeah I bet theres a few layers of Decidedly Romulan Mumbojumbo clogging up the works. The klingon cloaking device is probably much simpler by comparison.
@vismortis that defiant was destroyed when the Breen frist enter the Dominion war, along with the cloaking device, which was given by the Romulans. The present Defiant is the replacement.
I am FOREVER GRATEFUL to Sir Stewart for doing this for us. I am so tickled, chilled, teared up, jumping out of my seat thrilled this happened. Live long and Prosper Trek Lovers!
my favourite scene is the one before this when Sid confronts her father, reminding him who he really is "my crew is my family, you taught me that and I'm not afraid to step up and help them, you are" great writing even better acting
I need to see the following
Geordie: "You just plugged a centuries old Cloaking device into one of the most powerful power plants without thinking of the consequences... Fortunately I spoke with the man who operated this particular cloak and had a few years to play with it myself. Grab your calibrator. Time to work a miracle."
They should of stole Defiant’s cloak. It already works on a Federation “Warship”.
@@robertwenrenyeh the original Defiant was destroyed in DS9, the Defiant currently at the spacedock was originally under a different name; the Sao Paulo. This ship does not have the cloaking device that the first Defiant had.
@@robertwenrenyeh this is the Defiant that should have been marked NCC-74205-A - used to be the Sau Paulo. If you didn't tear up when Geordi gazed and whispered "Data", please dismiss yourself from the fanbase.
It always troubled me how they left Geordi by the wayside as far as exploring Data's human connections. Yes, Picard was somewhat of a mentor to Data, but Geordi was the closest thing to a best friend that Data had.

1:12 - 1:25 Too bad Riker is on an away vision. Otherwise he would've sat down with Jack and Sidney and said "let me tell you a story about my first assignment aboard the USS Pegasus!!" 🙄
Before that, he would just have a huge panic attack haha.
I love Shaw just completely getting star struck at meeting Geordi. :) That's his hero! And the look shared between Jean Luc and Seven. :D
Not sorry that I officially love Jack and Sid. :D They are their fathers' children, for sure. LOL!
Just the shared realization and tired sigh of "god dammit" from both Jean Luc and Geordi.
THIS IS STAR TREK!!!,
YEEESSS.
Even if this is the end. If this is The. End.
Let it be Such an end.
I can't help but wonder given the clear reverence Shaw holds for famed starfleet engineers like Laforge how he would be behave towards others famed starfleet engineers like Trip (Enterprise), Torres (Voyager), Miles O'Brian (Next Generation/DS9) and of course the great one himself Scotty (Star Trek Orginal) if he met them as well.
I refer to Scotty as the: Miracle Worker.
Best thing with LaForge in that regard is that he's met and worked with both O'Brian and Scotty. So Shaw's in the presence of that continuity.
Scotty left the Enterprise in a small shuttle to parts unknown, so it's unlikely Shaw would have met him. The others are well known but not especially standing out in Starfleet lore. Torres' biggest achievement as an engineer was building the Dreadnought, which was essentially a WMD meant to fight Cardassian and Federation ships trying to stop it. Miles was not an engineer per se on the Enterprise, where he was Transporter Chief. He had a great reputation for keeping DS9 in orbit and not tearing itself apart, but had a good Bajoran crew and the genius that is Rom (not sarcastic, Rom is an engineering whiz). His reputation was made by surviving the first Cardassian War and then rising to command council status on DS9, impressing even the Cardassian ladies.
@@SantomPh first this was a hypothetical meeting, which should be obvious given the fact I clearly stated at the start of the comment "I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER", I never said he would meet them or could
Torres was the chief of engineer of the only Starfleet ship ever to explore the Delta quadrant. And her achievements go far beyond that missile, she was promoted to chief engineer when Maquis and Voyager crews combined, over other star fleet officers who were original par of the ship's crew, which is a show of her level of skill as a engineer. Her skill and ability also proved vital during many missions for voyager and help the ship survive, just like Laforge when he was chief engineer of the Enterprise. Her part in the Voyager tale would have earned her a lot of respect among Starfleet.
Miles achievements on DS9 and Defiant would have more than earned him a high level of respect as a engineer given everything he did. Yes he had a good engineering crew but a large part of the station operations was also thanks to him. It was stated multiple times on DS9 that everything went fine when O'Brien was around to keep things going, but whenever he left the station things started to go wrong or malfunction, despite his genius engineering crew being around", and this too has been stated multiple times on the show, showing how important O'Brien was in the running of the station. The fact that he was offered the position as a professor of engineering.in Starfleet academy again shows his level of skill and the respect he had in Starfleet as a engineer.
1:52: Stargazer: WTF is happening behind me?
Enterprise-A: Dude, your cloak is malfunctioning
Titan-A: Yeah, its been a weird week...
better than when those schoolchildren disturbed the whale containment area and had to be beamed offboard with ten tons of water?

I love that in this season, when Stewart raises his voice he sounds like the old Picard, strong and decisive. Not the whiny old man of the first two seasons.
well in season 1 he was forced to retire and literally dying of his brain disease.....
Thank you Paramount for this season 3!!! It's everything I'd hoped it'd be!!!
Every time I watch this scene, when Geordi sees Data again I tear up. Excellent acting by Mr. Burton and excellent composing by Mr. Barton.

Its a shame shaw was killed off at the end of the season. Yes, his character is an ahole, but his type are needed as well in any organisation. And i kinda like the fact that he is able to see the good in other ppl even if they don't see eye to eye on many things

I never tire of the cloaking sound effect.
1:35 "Well I guess they'll have to add it to my tab." I swear you can almost see picard adjust willam shatners girdle when saying that line.
3:20 - 3:52 Someone should have warned Riker that he is getting too old playing "Star Trek: Elite Force." Or laser tags. Oops, too late I guess 😉🙄
Seeing Space suddenly as the Bridge "disappears" would probably give me an heartattack xD
that was because Sidney and Jack wired the device wrongly, A cloak typically doesn't affect the bridge or internal passages in a ship.
After the fathers growl at each other they go, it's the kids isn't it. Rofl
I'm loving this show so much. Why stop at season 3. Keep it going. Especially with all the people that are in it right now.
Short answer - Sir Patrick Stewart is getting too old
Great idea! Next season we can all watch these guys putter around the Starfleet Retirement Center babbling jiberish while drooling in their pudding. We are lucky we got to see this much of the TNG crew before we lose them like we lost most ofthe TOS crew. Let's not push our fortune further.
After this episode aired Terry Matalas tweeted to say that if he was asked to do another series he would call it Star Trek Legacy. And you can see how they are setting it up. TNG offspring, Voyager standout, a Wolf 359 survivor, even a possible security officer from earlier Picard and a DS9 baddie.
@@carriew5106 I have a feeling that next episode we will see another addition. There have been rumours for some time that Alexander Siddig is flirting with a comeback.
Also the next guest of Ready Room is kept secret from Wil Wheaton due to spoiler reasons.
@@diekrassekresse852 Yep, I don't think they are done. And Janeway has been mentioned so many times I wouldn't even be surprised if she appeared at some point.
I would love it if Colm Meaney appeared at some point in this season of Picard (and he obviously worked with Will Wheaton on TNG).
For a possible Legacy show casting the Dax character is ripe for a reintroduction. I thought about Nog, but then remembered that Aron Eisenberg also sadly died a couple of years ago.
The Romulan Free State maintained the Treaty of Algeron in the Star Empire's stead following the Romulan supernova. As such, the terms of the Treaty allowed Starfleet to place Coppelius under its protection.
By the 31st century, Vulcan reunification had been achieved, presumably nullifying the Treaty since it resulted in the Romulans joining the Federation.
the treaty would still stand, only this time between the Vulcans reunited and the Federation.

Don't worry - there's four more eps
There is still a scene where the entire TNG crew is sitting at the table from the trailers. It will come.

I know one of the big reasons he's an ass to Picard is cause Shaw is a survivor of Wolf 359, Riker is likely due to association. He is also a bit of an ass to Seven as well.
I'm not sure what's cuter. Shaw fanboying over Geordi, or Geordi verbally high-fiving Shaw 🙂
