Have never seen a crochet video that took the time to slowly go through, piece by piece, step by step, and repeat, and repeat. Cannot tell you how grateful I am to finally see one that made some sense to a yarn-challenged true beginner! Thank you!!!
I am a seasoned crocheter , I'v been crocheting for 46 yrs & I wasn't taught like that, I hold my hooks like a pen & I feel comfortable like that, I can hold my hook like a knife as well but it doesn't really feel right to me but as you say, there is no wrong or right way, it's what you feel most comfortable doing. If someone is a beginner though this is a fantastic tutorial for them so well done.
I’m in the same boat! Been crochet for the same amount of years (we might be the same age). I learned to crochet from my mom and I’m the “dainty” one but thanks to Mikey, I would like to start holding my hook properly to prevent injury. I also need to learn to properly “gossip about Sally and play leap frog”. I love it! @Mikey, you are simply the best teacher and a blessing! Thank you!
Hi mikey thank god for people like you taking the time, patience, and the lovr for crochetting teaching people the know how .we love you plz keep the videos coming
This is a Great beginner video. You make very easy to follow instructions. I simply followed the directions and skipped to the pattern portion and started the project. I'd call myself an advanced beginner and always appreciate the detailed information about the project you give us. My skills have improved since watching your videos. Please keep them coming! 😀
The Crochet Crowd is my #1 site for all my crochet tutorials and patterns. I have not yet found any other site that can teach crochet techniques and patterns with such ease. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do and I absolutely love all your finished crochet projects❤
Hi Mikey this would be a great video for beginners you explain everything so well, pay no need to negative remarks,l love how you teach thanks for all your tutorials 😊😊
Thank You SO MUCH for this tutorial (and EVERY SINGLE ONE of the others you put out)!!! Mikey... out of ALL the other crochet tutorials that i have found on the Internet, YOU explain how to crochet in a way that i can understand!!! You have NO IDEA how much that means to me!! I am turning 50 this year, and i truly wanted to find a new hobby. I used to cross-stitch, but i can't see the little boxes anymore (HaHa). I have nine Grandbabies (so far) and i want to be able to do something special for each of them, so they can keep it forever. (Okay, I'm totally babbling...) Anyway, it is ONLY because of YOU that i will be able to do that!!! And even though there's no way i could possibly do it enough ~ i just wanted to Thank You! ❤️
I’m using Caron Big cakes in the colorway “Rainbow Jelly’s”. I am not a beginner crocheter but I loved the idea of a simple pattern that I could hook while watching TV or listening to an audible book. I found this yarn on sale and fell in love with the bright, happy colors. This will be my second blanket for my grandson who just turned 4 months this week. I’m forwarding this video to my bestie. She’s never crocheted before and this is a perfect beginner tutorial Mikey. Happy Hooking my friends!!!
I've watched soooo many of your videos. I made a blanket for my sister with the extended Moss stitch you taught me. Turned out great. Love your teaching keep up the good work ty.
thank you so much for finally getting through my thick skull how to NOT increase stitches with every turn. as simple as it may seem to some, i could not figure out what i was doing wrong, even with stitch markers. This is the one single thing that has frustrated me and made me put down crochet several times over the years. your explanation with the apartments finally made me understand. yay! that, and you explained that your chain stitch at the turning point is considered the first stitch, so you start in the 2nd stitch. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! i'm working on my first afghan for the 3rd time (after ripping it out twice), but i feel this will be the time i complete it since I am NOT adding stitches each turn and it now looks like an afghan instead of a fan :-D
Thank you Mikey for this great tutorial, you talked so nice and slow for someone like me who is newer to crocheting! I love seeing you show your love for crocheting and wanting to help people to learn how to crochet.
Mikey I have been crocheting a while but never knew how you and others hold your yarn I did what you said and wala I got it and it feels comfortable. thanks
Hi Mikey, I really like your video! I've been crocheting for years and I've actually switched to the saw-cut hooks because I found they split the plied yarn LESS! Though I agree that the ergonomic handles are much more comfortable. Perfect example of individual preference, whatever helps each person most with their projects.
My 7 yr old daughter has been wanting to learn how to crochet and I think this video will be very helpful! I am self taught and still learning as well so trying to teach her was a struggle. Thank you for this!
Mikey, this is a fantastic video. I have been struggling with teaching my grandson the basics. You have done it so he will be able to crochet with grandma. Win win. Thank you 😊❤️🇨🇦
Karen B Hi Karen! How old is your grandson, if you don't mind me asking? I'm interested because i want to teach my 6-year-old grandson how to crochet, and I'm really hoping that he's not too young. I am 49 and i am just learning how to crochet, myself! Thank You! Laura R., from PA
Tfs..this is a pretty neat pattern...can't wait to make a blanket...have a great week...ive made 2 of your ponchos for girls 8-10 size...never made ponchos before...i made them with caron cakes....they came out great...i crochet like you do...i was taught by my grandma back in the 1960s...lol...i can't crochet the other way ...Have a great week!...xxgb 👍❤
I just made a beach bag with 15 rows of surface overlay. I did my joins with hook as opposed to darning needle and it doesn’t look as nice as it could. I’ll use button embellishments to fix this but I’m saving this video for the next time. ❤️
Giggle dancing with your castanets..they're so much fun! Hey I was taught to wrap the yarn around my pinky first then up as you do..what ever works(i tried your way recently but I have NO use of my left hand so the wrap helps. By the way a beginner needs the repeat& repeat again..repetition is necessary to retrain the info..AT ANY AGE! It's proven. Keep up the good work Mikey!
You are an excellent teacher and I am so thankful for the help. My only positive critique is that maybe you could continue to keep it slow for those struggling with the basics. You start and stay slow until you get to the corners, then you sped up and lost me. But, again, so awesome! Best video out there!!
Excellent tutorial as always love the pattern too well done so wonderful that you do these tutorials I have learnt so much from listening to your tips and following along with you ... please keep them coming cheers from Aus
Mikey I love your tutorials. I’m embarrassed that anyone could actually hit the dislike button. I’m tired of seeing it on tutorials when you are spending time teaching us everything there is to know about crocheting and the yarn we’re using. So let me apologize for the not so nice.
wow MIKEY, you have cute dimples on every finger of your left hand. My Grannie taught me to crochet when I was a kid, but she didn't point any guns at me to keep my interest ... tee hee hee. ( luv your patterns !!! ) SASSIE
This is a great beginner video. I wish I would have had this when I learned. I really struggled. Don’t desk Let’s anything out of it. This tutorial will definitely help someone. Thanking you for all the newbies.
Omg mike I love your tutorials. The best part was Sally...I sent the video to my coworker who wanted to learn and now she keeps saying fucking sally such a gossip queen!!! Your amazing keep up the great work. Thanks again.
I don't get it...the counting is clear until three and then the fourth the thumb just jumps and I cannot recognize which stitch is it. Also I don't know what do you mean by side, I don't see any sides. Also i dont know how to recognize which one is the original fourth one where i am supposed to get all the double crochets, after two rounds it gets so tangled and tight I cannot recognize where to put the hook. I tried 4 times for an hour and a half already and i always just end up with a tangled blob :( :(
For sure, the concept can be used for any yarn really. I just saw your message on another post. I try to answer quickly and sorry it too me so long. This came in 12 hours ago and I was already in bed.
@@TheCrochetCrowd that’s fine I just like that pattern and love your videos and never tried using Caron cakes and I got a different shade blue and white one the other day 👍🏻
the written instructions are different from the video instructions, in the beginning rows with sc you say ch1 but this is not written in instructions...I'm confused, please clarify! Thanks a lot!
yes I did but it still doesn't explain to other crochet people that want to follow the written instructions how to do it, I played and paused every segment to write it down, which is fine for me, but for beginners that would like to follow the written instr. it's very confusing and I just wonder why it is that way?
Ivette Mercado You can get it at Joanns, although they don't carry every color scheme. Different stores carry different color selections. Hope that helps!
Yes thank you. Although we don't have a Joanns in Puerto Rico I was able to order it online. I did not find this particular color but got something near, Thank you for your quick response. Love Miky's videos and follow them always.
I know that when I was starting I wouldn’t even do a pattern that wasn’t the same thing repeated. The chain three rounds would have turned me off from this tutorial, when I first started because you have to alternate rounds and that would always confuse me.
How to Crochet with The Crochet Crowd I think this is a fantastic video, for someone who is totally new to crochet they need all these details, I think it’s just fine the way it is, I didn’t see anything confusing at all about it. With all new things there of course will be questions but they can ask if they need help.
Don't remove this video. I haven't even been crocheting for a year but everything I have learned I learned from you. Some of us need detailed information. This is a great video but I do feel sorry for poor Sally.

What brand and where you brought your hooks from? Will you advise to get furls hooks it is ergonomic .

Amazing tutorial. Just wish there were time stamps to the steps as I had to go back and re-listen as I got farther along in my project.
Hi mikey which pattern is best for baby blanket (for 3 to 6 month). TIA
Ha! When I drop a loop in knitting, it's a crochet hook that saves the day!
Hi, im a huge fan of yours from India . Video is really good for biggners and thanks for extra info...
