They were cheap, but were they bargains?

A number of the Bachmann locomotives are old Mainline locos. The Royal Scott is one of them.

I love what you posts ! . Deans Goods, 35 Quid's ? That's over $43.00 USD ! . Some have Tinny noise, ain't realistic, need more "rumble" . . Do your re-railers work ? . use 'em, Better to nick up those rails rater than the main Line. . "Castle Trains' ? Must be the Queens Shop ... WOOF ! MY Fur ! So that's where that one went off to ! . . 45 quid's for the Bachmann Royal Scot, pretty good.. . . . PLEASE USE ! . Da Foam block has push-out holes. . "Pretty Good" is more positive than "Not BAD". . Heard the Missis call you for 4 o'clock tea. .. . Time-Out, Green bay !
. . Great purchases, fun to see them. Wish we could have a look inside, but too risky . The Austrian Electric is smooth and impressive. I go for anything STEAM ! Love my Kettle,,, I've got a Blue ball point just like yours. Do you go to my proctologist ? . He has TONs of them to hand out. Really gets the new patients in.

Nice video. And some good bargains. I have no issue buying Mainline locos and fixing them up. In fact, I prefer 'fixer uppers' as I like a good project. As for the Dean Goods you have, that did start life as a Mainline loco - possibly even an Airfix before that. Mainline only leased the molds so when the parent company Hasbro started shutting down Palitoy who sold the things, the molds were up for grabs - hence Dapol and Replica producing several of the models. Bachmann then effectively took over after Dapol or Replica had, I believe, a fire that put-paid to production. Anyway, whatever the story, they are all pretty decent locos - if a little fragile motor-wise - from time-to-time. Keep the videos coming.

Super Royal Scot you have there. The lack of a modern (DCC) version of this is one reason why I gave up on OO, but my grandad's old Palitoy Scot certainly still looks the part.

With some love and care these old loco run as new.
Of course these are DC and not DCC let alone DCC ready, but stil I even make them DCC, even the split chassis Bachmann types.
It will take some time as some hard wiring, sometimes machining needs to be done needs to be done, but it can be done if wanted.
But no matter DC or DCC, you best give them a good service, clean the contacts on the wheels and in the motor, remove dirt, remove all old oil residues and put in a fresh drop of oil this will improve your loco for the better.
For good brands such as Bachmann often replacement gears still are available at their inventory, best is to look for the part number at the parts list and ask if that part is still available.
Optically, some paints touch ups and figures, and these are as the new stuff, obviously the previous owner of the Dapol Dean Goods already attended that.
And yes Mainline stock and tooling was taken over by Dapol, and the brown one is indeed an Italian loco.
Good deals done, not so keen on the Italian model, but that is a question of intrest of course, as is the choice for DC or DCC…

I've got through a few of this period Bachmann steamers & they all look good & have quality motors & run well. It's just the gears splitting that let them down. Bachmanns' spares site is a godsend. Something I wish Hornby would copy! Thanks for the info.

    • @dannyvanstraelen3273

@@fairweathertrains3029 Well I always found Bachman quality and service next level to Hornby and some other brands, although sometimes Hornby has spear parts, so always worth while to ask but defiantly not as wel organized as Bachmann but you can try your luck.
Hornby did some goofy stuff in the past such as the OO gauge live steam, it was an very expensive system to buy, the manual was rubbish, as when you would have followed it, it would do your expensive train more bad than good.
And the other problem is, it needs a tight maintenance, so gaskets need a periodic change.
Now nothing is available anymore with Hornby, thank God there is still the OO gauge live steam club, they make and sell these parts now under their own house name now and they educate you how to run and maintain it…

I'm still trialling various layout options, so no underlay until finalised. The problem with under lay is that any trackside accessories are then too low. Maybe cover the whole board? It's all still fluid! Thanks for watching.
