A Space Age Intercity Train | Roco
A closer look at the amazing looking Trans Europe Express (TEE) BR 601 from Roco. It's a bit too long for my layout but is quite a sight when up and running with the full rake.

The Best 5 Locomotives Bought During 2024 - European Version
Переглядів 168День тому
Choosing just 5 (or 6) locos for this list was a difficult task due to having a good few that are fantastic. None of these are new, all second-hand, so no massive prices paid. Let us know your best buys of 2024, we all like to know what we could've got! I noticed on watching this back, that the first loco shown does have cab detailing and a fitted driver. I couldn't see it through the camera. L...

4 dirt cheap Toy Fair locos | Bargain or trash | Part Four
Переглядів 97414 днів тому
After the wallet busting trip to the NEC, we decided at the next fair we would see what we could get stupidly cheap. So here we are, the last of four locos that we open and test "live" as they come, split across four videos. Where necessary, I'll service and clean them up to see if we can end up with a half decent loco. This one was the most expensive at £40. However, there is a reason I partic...

Very nice!
thank you
What scale is this?
This Rivarossi is HO scale.
I did own one of these sets & an add on set of three coaches .Must admit one of my worst decisions was to sell it on . Great set .
It is a thing of beauty rightly enough
The question for me is if Roco can up with that brilliant bellows design why have UK manufacturers not copied it or even done a better one just shows how far behind our models are Is the motor a fly wheel one or a ringfield one? I really like it if I am honest.
It's a Roco, so there is never a ringfield motor in it. Having a flywheel depends on the year of production, the more recent versions definitely have one.
I've not had it apart yet but similar Roco locos would have a large centrally mounted can type motor with drive shafts to either end. Not sure about a flywheel or 2 though. I am a big fan of that bellows system, it really does make a difference visually. Thanks for your thoughts
I was lucky enough to get one of the 4 car sets (a new other purchase) on ebay for 115 quid. It is late as it is in the latest Roco packaging. My research showed the prototype was 7 cars altogether so I got a 3 pack, and sadly I couldn't get a used one and had to get a new one which cost a bloody fortune. Still, as yours, it looks fantastic and doesn't derail in either direction. A truly lovely model.
It really does run well and, as you say, in both directions. It really is a looker too. Thanks for watching
For the history: these were built for TEE service, but replaced by locomotive hauled trains. After being used on regular intercity trains most were sold to Italy. In 1990 one was refurbished for the Max Liebermann intercity service on the Hamburg Berlin route. Lots of power cars and a bunch of cars are preserved, but it is too expensive to restore them to operational condition. The DB museum Koblenz has one normal power car and one with turbine intakes and a few cars. The TEE logo is a big aluminium piece on the real thing.
Thanks for the background for this model
Those dots are swiss railway standard for lighting. They do have 2 light up front and one in the back (even white if I´m not mistaken)
nice, thanks for the info
Great video 👍
Thanks very much!!
The Br 86 is a special edition (six digit number) as a Übergangskriegslokomotive which is translated as Transitional war locomotive this is why a window is missing and the colouring ist Eisengrau/Irongrey. It was also available as set with fitting coaches. So it's not photographic and the k means close coupling. Production was only for 2005.
Brilliant info. I was hoping you might see this! Irongrey sounds so much better than photographic grey too. Thanks so much for this background stuff, it is much appreciated and adds something to the loco in question.
Cracking selection thanks for sharing 😊
There sure are some great looking continental locos available. This is why I can't limit myself to just one era. Thanks for watching
You've been really duped..Sorry,my englisch isn't good.
I've not been duped as I knew exactly what I was buying and for £30 too. I assumed it was some military set due to the vehicles but am more than happy with it, especially at that price. Thanks for watching
Hello! It isn't a military Train Set. Sorry. Greetings Frank.
I got mine today!!
Like it? Love it?
@ love it 😊
Great model. Replace the wheel set, motor and possibly the gearing. Also possibly needs rewiring as well.
So (almost) the whole thing then?!!😊
I think these are great models. I have one in BR black early logo which I bought 'as new' & paid full price! Don't regret it. I have also just taken delivery of another 4575 in GWR green which has been re-released in shirtbutton livery. Yours for £50 seems like a bargain, especially as you've driven the real thing. South Devon Railway has 5526 in the same livery as yours. They did have the Bachmann model of 5526 which I sadly missed out on. Love the Genesis coaches too, I have four unlit versions. Cheers.
When I bought it, I didn't know if they were any good or not. It seems they are! SDR had a stand at a couple of the local train fairs selling that model but were a bit expensive. They've probably all gone by now. I go to SDR around 3-4 times a year as it's only 10 miles from here. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year
@@fairweathertrains3029 Wow, I'm envious of you being so close to SDR. Yes the models have sold out and I'm ever hopeful they'll commission some more. It's an overpriced and older model in any guise but I am a sucker for them. Looking forward to the Rapido 44xx. HNY Dave 🙏
Great loco, is there space for a stay alive, although it didn't seem to need it most of the time. ...Drew
I don't know as I am DC only. I will say, you won't want to put it in the cab! Thanks for watching
I have 2 - great runners! One which I DCC sound fitted, videos on my channel - must try to refit that as the chip is in the cab at the mo! Happy New Year to you to1
Nice to hear of further good runners. Thanks for watching
Great model. Would love to get one of these.
If they all run as well as this one, I'd recommend keeping an eye out. Thanks for watching
Liked your video. You'll get it running ok
Thanks. I've not given up on it yet!
I noticed in the rear axle bearings there are two holes, one in each side of the chassis. Did they perhaps have tiny springs in them, similar to those I have seen in Mainline split chassis locos? I'm not sure if the absence of them would make any difference in the ride of the locomotive, but it may help to distribute the weight of the loco on the track, especially at the rear where there is less chassis weight.
There were certainly no springs when I dismantled it - that doesn't mean there were none originally as I doubt this is the first time it's been apart. Thanks for watching
You do have split axles sir. Could see them on the video. Also check the centre drive gear, as I bet it's split too. Also, if you take it apart fully, I would guess the intermediate gear is split too.
I re-watched it and saw that too. Yet when I dismantled it I didn't see any splits! I wonder if it could be a dog hair or something. Anyway, I will have another look when I've got a bit of time. Thanks for pointing that out.
@fairweathertrains3029 I have a Bachmann j36 or the like, and it had all three axles split. Ended up purchasing a new wheel set from Bachmann Spares and now it runs a treat. Guess it depends how far you want to go with it cost wise.
Gotta say I'm impressed with the Bachmann Spares site, just wish Hornby could follow suit. The motors in these seem very good, but I've not decided where I'm headed with this yet.
Un saludo buen video y estupendo modelo . 1 like 👍
Thank you very much for the information. Have a great Christmas!
@fairweathertrains3029 Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025 and enjoy the trains, greetings
Thank you very much and the same to you - although Christmas has now passed!
Track cleaners and spilt chassis don't always mix due to possible shorting in the chassis. The loco is basically Mainline in design only with a better motor. If it was me I would strip it down to parts photograph everything before dismantling the loco . Clean the two half's of the chassis and gears its surprising how much dirty gets between the two half's I would also replace the plastic axles with new ones Peters Spares sell replacements not to expensive the wheels need to be super cleans. Happy Christmas
I will be having another go at it in the new year. I will check out Peters Spares too. Thanks
Ah! C’est la locomotive Fleischmann # 4372 !
@@jeanlouis866 that’s exactly what it is. Thanks & happy Christmas
have you measured the wheel gauging? noise sounds like the track and wheels coming into contact and with those split axles types, people replace the axles and not always to the right dimensions
I didn't no. I will be having another go when I've got time and got my patience back! Thanks for watching
Could it have a split axle?
I did inspect it closely and couldn't see a split with my old eyes. However, the thump it makes on the track does sound like it has a split. I shall have to take it apart again and use a magnifier. Thanks for watching
I had that loco. But it kept breaking down.
I can see that!! Thanks for watching
The coaches are meant to represent the 'salonwagen' trains for the army staff, which were based on the streamlined standard coaches. To get a really complete consist you need at least one Flakwagen 336615. The information text is not completely correct, while there are none preserved in Germany, there is one in driving condition in Luxemburg (CFL 5519). A similar train was also available in a dark green livery with more prototypical window arrangements, but that is a more recent Bachmann product. The armor plates are for the brake pump (on the footplate) and the injectors (below the cab)
Thanks for the info & the requirement for me to look for another wagon!
Nice one thanks Patrick Quinn IRL
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
Really nice and unusual loco, I can't believe how much it weighs! I'd like to see the tender drive mechanism I bet that's interesting. Keep up the good work I really enjoy your channel.
It's pretty standard for European production. Large can motor with flywheel and gearbox towers down to the wheels on both sides
It's working! I don't want to take it apart yet! I too would like a look at the mechanism though. Actually, I still don't know if the tender can be detached from the loco. Thanks for the nice comments and for watching.
It would've been better if you stopped the trains in the background so we could've hear your voice better.
Fair point. Thanks for watching
The plaque is from 1938 when Mallard broke the speed record for a steam loco. It still holds the record to this day of 126 mph. The Mallard still has this plaque in place to this day at York railway museum.
Released in 1979...
Yup!
I own said model
It's lovely do you think? Thanks for watching
The hornby ringfield motors are absolutely fine, easy to service and still run very well.
I agree. Nothing beats the old Silver Seal version though!
Nice locomotive 👍
It sure is! Thanks for watching
Sir, I will find one of these at a charity shop, any one of shops.
I hope you can.
Tender removal tip. Squeeze front to back. What you are doing is how the clips get broken.
Thank you
Good 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Nameplates are separate fittings. The plaque half way down the locomotive half is the plaque the engine received for it's speed record and has had it since the speed run
Thanks for the info, and for watching
Those vehicles did not come with the set those are Roco minitanks vehicles
I should take a closer look at the vehicles I think.
Typical swiss freight consist of the era
Hi like Your Videos
Hi, you're too kind! Thanks for watching
I had been informed that electronic hi frequency track cleaning units are prone to pitting wheels.
I don't know about that. But I do turn them off when running anything Rapido, locos with tiny motors or anything that carries a warning about their use.
As others have said, a bargain and a testament to vintage Hornby.
You're right there. It's way better than I expected. Thanks for watching
Absolute bargain especially the way it runs so smooth
Absolutely a winner this one. Thanks for watching!
It is a plaque commemorating the speed record that Mallard broke (126 miles per hour)
of course! Makes sense, thanks for that
I need to get this as my cousin has it. I've now got 6233 Duchess of Sunderland which is tender driven
I would recommend this model. But do they all run this well or is this one a fluke? I've got that Duchess too and it's a beauty!
Can't argue with £25 for a loco that runs as quiet as that. Made in Great Britain 44 years ago 😀
Incredible for an old ringfield. Certainly worth the money this one.
I have not been able to find replacement plastic isolators / spacers for the Class 03. They are different to most Bachmann split chassis models.
I didn't know that. Glad I don't need any - at the moment! Thanks for watching
