A lot of metal has very deep meaning, the thing to consider is that it's a genre of music that comes from an era where albums came with sleeve notes that contained the song lyrics, so when we bought albums we had the lyrics to read as we wore out the records playing them over and over figuring out how to play the guitar parts.
    I know, I'm gettin old 🙁

I remember using my older brother's sterio system to isolate the rhythm to work out timing for the bass lines and how it worke with the drums on so many albums.

it’s actually about the Orthodox Church in the Ukraine, and how that is the only approved way of being. Yet the church doesn’t actually practice what they preach. Meanwhile they are everything the church hates, but they are good people. The “Judgement and punishment” is for the clergy; for forsaking the truth and love for status in their community.

It’s always a good day when you two react to Jinjer, even when I’m not feeling well. Good job on picking up more lyrics, Brad! I’m not certain what the song means, but when she sings “Narrow minds cannot believe what they hear” I always feel like that’s referring to the naysayers who say that’s not her real voice-that a woman can’t do that. Also, the end part is “Your judgments sign your own punishments.” 😊
I love that you two are getting SO into Jinjer. And I love that Lex recognized her own judgment when it came to metal. I’d recommend another song...but there are no bad Jinjer songs. I’m here for the Jinjourney.

She has talked about it in interviews. It's about some of the folk where she lives. She still rides the bus, and she said some of the old ladies on the bus give her dirty looks when they see the tattoos. She also said people in Ukraine are very withdrawn and distrustful of strangers. They don't say hi and they don't help folks. It's a hard place for folk to live. Nobody smiles. She was surprised by the friendliness the first time they toured America, because strangers were coming right up to her greeting her with a smile and saying hi and hello.

"Fusion cuisine" is very good :D Amazing display of vocal skill and this song is a beautiful fusion of two very distinct genres of music. Tatiana´s growls are a lot easier to pick up on the lyrics because her technique is flawless and she enunciates very well every word she writes. Great reaction, as always fun and enjoyable from start to finish. Try one of their masterpieces: "Teacher, Teacher", she even raps a bit in this one. Peace.

One thing I appreciate about Jinjer's music and especially Tati's lyrics, is that there is a message being conveyed. A lot of music simply uses vocals as a way of making a sound that is pleasing. Lyrics are just another layer in the melody. Their stuff (along w/ countless others) manages to convey a message... despite the pre-conceived perceptions of the genre.

Jinjer- Home Back (official video) next, please. It's about war wich started in 2014 in Eastern Ukraine. Yeah. They eventually found residency in Kiev, but were basically on tour ever since, just to make ends meets, right until covid came along, with a couple hundred shows just within the two years before that. Covid itself was basically their longest time without proper touring. Home Back is basically their Zombie (Cranberries).
Another personal song for the band is No Hoard Of Value, which is about the coal mining industry in their home region (Donbass region), which is one of the most hazardous working environments in the world, and most people there were working in that field.

My father works for mining industry.. however he's an engineer and spent most of his life developing machinery equipment for coal mines, but he goes underground pretty often to check on the equipment and put it into exploitation, I know how hard it's for miners to work over there.. Donbass mines are really narrow, some are only 50-60 cm high, people have to crawl a lot in the tunnels, basically on the stomach.. also hot as hell, coal dust in the air so you can't even see further than a couple of meters ahead, insane humidity and noise... inhumane work..

Tatiana’s lyrics are deep and like reading poetry. I recommend having the lyrics up and read them while watching the video, or go back during a pause to review them; it will help you train your ears to hear the words. Try “Teacher Teacher” or “ I Speak Astronomy” for a slow dip in the pool; or jump in the deep end with “Home Back” or “Pit of Consciousness”. “Retrospection -live in Kiev” is one of my favorites too, enjoy the journey!

You two are ready for symphonic metal. I am going to request Nightwish again. Start with "Ghost Love Score" from Wacken 2013.

Normally metal music lyrics are more towards society problems than love and stuff like commercial music. Most of them have a really deep meaning. For example "Who's gonna be the one" pushes people to stand and fight for the environment, "Perennial" talks about depression in the cold months of winter, "Cloud Factory" about big companies and contamination, "Pit of Conciousness" about mental dissociative disorders, "On the top" about capitalism and how people does whatever to be on the top, and when they reach, they are alone...
You can like or not the music, but they talk about real stuff that happens in life to which we can all relate...

You got my thumb up for admitting your own narrow mindedness was preventing you from appreciating something solely because it existed outside of your realm of experience. You prejudged an entire genre of music and by extension its Fandom but had a moment of realization and owned it. That was legit.

I find it helpful to have my settings option with "Subtitles/Closed Captions" ON when watching Jinjer videos. Especially during her growls. But I do agree trying to watch a performance and lyrics does take away from each other. Great reaction btw!

It’s more than ok to listen to the vocals, only as an instrument, the first time. It’s how most musicians do it.
