here is a traditional recipe for you.. !Chinthamani Appam with Onion Chutney.. Just try and enjoy the taste..
Ingredients for Chinthamani Appam
Raw rice - 1/2 cup
Idly Rice - 1/2 cup
Toor dal - 1/4 cup
Chana Dal - 1/4 cup
Moong Dal - 1/4 cup
Coconut or gingelly oil - 3 tbsp
shallots - 8-10 nos
mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
black gram - 1/2 tsp
Salt
Onion Chutney :-
Shallots - 3/4 cup
Red Chilly - 3 nos
Coconut oil - 3 tbsp
mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
black gram - 1/2 tsp
curry leaves
sugar - 1tsp
salt

We make this similar appam Salem Trichcy side. For Karthikai Pandigai 2nd day. Variation is we only use a"ll the dalsnorice... And sour curds and give chilled tadka

i come from north so cannot find idli rice what should i use...instead...
you can use 1 cup white raw rice.. instead of 1/2 cup raw rice + 1/2 cup idly rice.... or you can use 3/4 cup white raw rice plus 1/4 cup ponni parboiled rice
why its called chintamani appam. Its can be called appam right?
Reson for asking is we have a place by name Chintamani in South Karnataka here....
this is very old recipe,, actually I don't know who put this name to this.. Appam is different in Kerala..that recipe we uploaded,,

if you used the soaked water,this will be fermented in 3 to 5 hrs maximum.. for overnight fermentation grind with normal water..
